Just re-watched the last part of Episode 1 and there is a major clue as to what happened long ago. In the modern era, there is a major, unexpected "sun-shower" - rain while the sun is shining. Se-gye is listening to the radio newscast that relates the following:
[paraphrase] It's a message from the heart that was never conveyed [that's the significant part], A sun-shower is the tears a cloud sheds when the fox it loved married a tiger. But. . the true meaning is actually different. . .it's a blessing from a loved one wishing you happiness in your new life even when they cry.
At the same time, there are newspaper articles mentioning the "comet for the 1st time in 300 years." Dam-shin is shivering in the cold, icy shower, wondering if her current situation (neither hell nor heaven) is her punishment - but then she decides that she's alive and she decides to seek out Se-gye.
Pure speculation, but I don't think it's a given that Joseon ML and Dan-shim became lovers. But he loved her and wished her well when the Crown Prince/King took her for his Royal Concubine.
writer is walking a tight-rope because viewers love the show because of the humor and the characters (and, of…
Probably the wrong term. How about sageuk misery? The drama shows snippets of life during Joseon times - they were not pleasant but no scenes of bloody violence if that's what concerns you.
One thing I donβt understand: How comes that FL does not recognize Se Gye in present? I mean he saved her in…
Eye mask for one. Also, as a lowly maid, she isn't supposed to look into his face - he told her to look up (so that he could see HER), but she still kept her eyes cast down. On their last visit, there was a screen between the two of them.
Thoroughly disappointed with Perfect Crown - biggest disappointment this year so far - ended up dropping it. I…

The FL was still working as a maid when she discovered how the King wanted to use her as a pawn in his game and…
Unless we learn something different later on, she never married the King/Crown Prince - she became his highest rank concubine - presumably after she her relationship with the Grand Prince. Her title was "Huibin" - "beautiful high rank concubine".
As Huibin, she had her own set of maids and ladies-in-waiting. It was very prestigious and she ranked above the noble-born concubines.
in ep 4, why did se gye punch man do? did it have something to do with mc?
Se-gey's mother was an actress - I'm not sure we know much more about her or his father, but apparently they were married since he has the same last name as Grandpa. But like Dam-shin, she was considered "lower" status. When grandfather heard that Se-gey might be dating someone in the media, he immediately thought of someone in an elite role - news broadcaster, producer.
Mondo said something like "the only thing you inherited from you mother is your good looks". It was very insulting. I hope we get a better backstory on the grandson/cousin backstory and SOON. Who were their parents? Are they all dead? And, hopefully, the answer is NOT that Se-gey's folks died in a car accident that he feels guilty about causing!!!!! That trope has SAILED.
I usually hesitate to compare/contrast dramas because everyone has their own perspective/taste/filter.
But damn, CP did not deliver on all the hype. So much $$$ spent to promote a very routine romance (commoner/royalty, chaebol/commoner) with plot holes strewn from start to finish.
Having said this, Royal Nemesis could very well travel the same path if they rely too much on the old trope of soul mates, destiny, fate, whatever which always devolves into besotted fools. If they don't maintain their strength, competence, intelligence then I'll be disappointed. I'm ready for all the s**t coming their way, but please don't make them weak!!!
The character of Kang Dam-sin (title Kang Huibin) is based on the real person Jang Huibin , a commoner who was…
I apologize if my write-up was misleading. Jang was named Huibin at the time she became a favored concubine. Bin=concubine; hui=beautiful. (this is according to Wikipedia). The Queen was banished at one point so it was at that point that Jang was elevated to Royal Queen Consort (or whatever the title was back then) because of her son. But there were political factions/families fighting for power and eventually the King grew weary of Jang's family (commoner, not noble). She was demoted and eventually executed, along with over 1000 courtiers, family members and associates. Very ugly times. Here is the Wikipedia article:
Are the Joseon's characters here all fictional? or are there any inspirations from real historical figures?
The character of Kang Dam-sin (title Kang Huibin) is based on the real person Jang Huibin , a commoner who was one of King Sukjohn's concubines who bore his eldest son. "Bin" is the title for favored concubines and "hui" means "beautiful". At one point, the real Queen never bore a son so Jang was elevated to the position of Queen Consort because her son was the crown prince, but eventually - due to factions/purges/etc, she lost favor with the King and was demoted back to concubine status. Eventually, her family was ruthlessly purged and she was executed by poisoning
Drama vs. Reality
Kang Dam-sin/Jang Ok-jeong King Anjong/King Sukjohn Queen Onjeong/Queen Inhyeon
Unlike the drama King Anjong, King Sukjohn did not have any brothers.
To date, there have been nine films or dramas based on the life of Jang Ok-jeong.
Mild disagreement - it shows that the King was pure psycho. Killing a relative to ascend the thrown? Perfectly rationale 300 years ago, But killing a defenseless animal? Psycho. (Altho, hate to say it but killing/eating dogs is still accepted in China).
If it was merely to show cruelty, there many other options, but presumably writer-nim will connect the dots to the modern era. But I still hate it. In fact, I deducted 1β from my Ep. 4 rating.
β¦ and why do I feel like the King (2ML) also time travelled or such. Maybe at a different timeline then then…
One theory is that all three are reincarnations of their Joseon souls, but thus far seeing seo-ri hasn't triggered any dreams or thoughts in the 2ML - yet.
Well we got ourselves a proper villain. I get why he's after him in the present day. But in the past? He had a…
I put together a Character Description for the drama and posted it in the discussion/topic section. We already know that Joseon ML is the Grand Prince, so that indicates that he is a younger brother to the King.
Yes, of course there will be a major misunderstanding. He's holding her grandmother's business/life over her head. The questions are: (i) will they kiss before they break-up and (ii) is will they be apart for 2 episodes or 4, lol.
so HUI jU and her sis-in-law walkedso that seo ri can run
She was one of the many blind dates. I wrote up a character description in the discussion/topic area. Here's her short bio: Mo Tae-hee - The precious [spoiled] daughter of Mo Chang Group, who is Se-gye's blind date
There's a lot more in the official SBS bio - she ambitious and is used to getting whatever she wants - and she wants Se-gye.
I know he will reject her - which means she will connive with 2ML, which is why I think - when Seo-ri sees her eventually, we will get the Queen's backstory. Just a guess. but after all, this IS a kdrama with 10 more episodes to be filled.

Mo Tae-hee (the blind date) was already in Ep. 1. She's a supporting cast member so she'll be around quite a bit. I think she might be reincarnation of the Queen - if the Queen show up in the modern era.
GAWDD as the each episode goinh they makin more and more happy ππ€π€with how the pacing is goingg
Uhhhhhh. . . . .you do understand kdrama pacing, correct? Too happy too early means major, major crack-up later on. But at least with this one, the writer isn't keeping secrets from the viewer - it's all out in the open where this roller-coaster is headed - both up hill and down (and up again for the finaleπππ).
Netflix air time is different from SBS broadcast air time. At around 11:30 KST, Netflix will air the new episode.…
It's been years since I tracked a release on Netflix like this one. Pulled out the time zone conversion ap to figure it out. Iirc, it's usually released 1 hour after it completes in Korea, correct?
