If the ending is sad I only wish for one thing; that he regains his memory before the very end otherwise the ending will be rushed and it will be pointless.

Lol! Objectively speaking he is of course despicable and hard to understand and like but I am really trying to look at the drama and him from this era’s POV. One can argue that he is a victim too; victim of his position, his father who pitted the siblings against each other, his brother trying to kill him, his fake mother who killed his actual mother, etc. The princess grew up sheltered and with a lot of love that’s why she remained pure and kind. The thing with him is that I don’t think he is naturally evil, he just doesn’t have any choice. If he was sweet with the FL everyone would try to kill her and if he didn’t kill her tribe the king or his brother would have anyway as they were at odds so I don’t think he had much choice. Not trying to defend him but I really can’t see how he could have loved her freely. Also let’s not forget that her dad, grandpa and shifu were the ones who « sold » her off. They traded her for peace, pride and power too. The 5th prince was opportunist but not more cruel than her own family that was supposed to protect her. The reason why I still ship them is because he seemed genuinely sorry for doing what he did. I also can’t help but think that some of the mean actions he does now are also a way to protect her against the sly concubine (just like in Untouchable lovers the ML knows hat if he favours someone else they would be in danger).

I have read the 25 first chapters of the book and according to the Chinese speakers he used her to secure his position and then killed her and her whole family in the end. He has had to be ruthless for the power struggle but she is the only one he never physically hurt (he obviously traumatised her). He definitely loves her.
I'm liking Li Chen less and less. I totally get palace politics and all the plotting that seems to go with it…
He is faking it with the other girl. He is not in love; he is using her to survive. If he didn’t play palace politics his brother would kill him. And don’t forget that he lost his memory so I doubt he would treat her like a friend if he remembered her since he was willing to die with her in the river.
I finished this drama few hours ago. Honestly, I don't think I'm getting over this show anytime soon. The OST…
If you want something similar in terms of romance/intense couple chemistry, I would recommend: Goodbye my princess which is currently airing. Sad ending though (but could be an alternative one too apparently), Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, Sound of the desert, Eternal Love (1, didn’t like the second), Novoland (didn’t like the plot and cgi and ending but the chemistry is fantastic), Princess Agent if you don’t mind frustration endings, Legend of white snake (sad ending but apparently an alternative ending exists), etc
I actually just saw a post on social media. It said that the director said there are two endings. It's just a…
OMG that would make my month!! It is a trend these days to have two endings because there are more international viewers (who tend to prefer HE compared to Chinese people) and it would cater to the book purists and the shippers.
Well it’s hard after ep 10 to have romance scenes because how can you still love someone that kills your family?…
Honestly I have mixed feelings and don’t entirely think the ML is evil or was completely wrong. Yes, he was wrong for using her BUT she was sacrificed by her father initially for the sake of his country’s peace and by her shifu who, to me, is 100% responsible. He was like a brother to her and she trusted him wholeheartedly so she pushed him to her demise by introducing her to 5th prince. I blame him entirely as he had so many occasions for warning her and just elope with her since he doesn’t even like the mundane life anyway! The 5th prince only took the opportunity that was given to him and I think he genuinely didn’t plan to really fall in love. Their countries were at war and they did abuse, kill and enslave people so hard to tell if he was really wrong morally. He sort of is both good and bad but he clearly loves her. Probably too much and obsessively but he treats her very well. So I think that’s why she ends up hating herself too; she does fall in love twice and deeply.
Little question for people who have read the book (please put it as spoiler in case other don’t want to know). Did they actually get married as queen and king before the end or only crown prince/princess?
I am going to live in a delusional state until the end. A lot of dramas now change the original ending to appeal…
I don’t think I can take another sad ending. By the way, do you know where can I find the alternative ending episode of Destiny of the White snake? Heard about it but didn’t find it. Thanks!
Serious, I don’t know why people is giving up such a meaningful drama just because of the ending. Sometimes,…
Got your point but I wish I could DEMAND a happy ending. I don’t mind a SE when the romance is secondary or if the couple’s chemistry is not amazing but if it is focused on the romance and redemption then I feel a HE is best. I am already shipping them way too hard!!
I read the novel until its 25th chapter. I also read the novel spoiler posted online and my heart can’t help…
I am going to live in a delusional state until the end. A lot of dramas now change the original ending to appeal to the audience or create an alternative one. They are showing the ML in a very different light from the book so maybe there is hope!
Did they actually get married as queen and king before she kills herself or only crown prince/princess and he becomes king after her death?
