That means the synopsis is entirely off... 🤦🏻‍♀️

Don't take it seriously... because of the body-swap theme: in the end, it's only the main character's dream...…
I think not seriously is the only way to take it...🤣

Didn't realise it ended already. I am glad you enjoyed it so much. For me sadly, the most fun I got out of it was skimming through the many hilarious review titles!

Title Pledge of Allegiance Spoiler
I became curious, is the story about the Grand Secretariat of Wenhua Hall (Yuan Zhong Dao) that he is Li Yan's…
I think its more likely Yuan Zhongdao really is Li Feng because he is literate enough to become Grand Secretariat (which is basically prime minister). In order to get Li Yan to reveal the riddle Song Heming promised to save his son by replacing him with a thief/street urchin who happened to be Li Wu. Lu Zheng/Song Zhen didn't know the back story, all he knew was his father was unjustly detaining his friend/a street urchin he played in the back lanes with and decided to free him. As a grown up he still has that same innate righteousness. Poor Li Wu is truly illiterate so he really can't be an official's son.

I really like Zhang Haowei but this plot sounds ridiculous! Poor girl, to save her struggling family she has to marry an emperor? And a young one at that? Somehow that doesn't sound like real hardship.... And that is even before we get into the body swap part....

Glad you are enjoying it now. I also liked Under the Microscope and it is also set in Ming dynasty.
Well iQiyi is involved in both productions so they both have the look and feel of iQiyi productions. I think POA is all in-house but they worked with another production company for Under the Microscope. The producers and directors are different. They were probably both shot at Hengdian.

Lu Zheng was Song Heming's son. His real name is Song Zhen. His adopted father Lu Yulin rescued him and named him Lu Zheng.

Thanks for this! It is a great help for all of us who have to rely on subtitles. So far I only watched one episode,…
I only checked out tonight's episodes and other than the above obvious mistake, the subs seem acceptable but not great.

He is indeed just a thief. But then what happened to Li Yan's son Li Feng? Can he be the real Li Dongfang?
Seems that is incorrect but it was a good guess.😅

Was just checking out the English subtitles and a translation error jumped out at me in Episode 14 from 6:30 minutes onwards. Donggong/東宮 refers to the crown prince or taizi. It is being translated as emperor throughout the conversation. It is a pretty long conversation but if you replace emperor with crown prince throughout, the translation is alright.

Kevin Costner's Robin Hood was another cringe-fest of epic proportions!

I wondered about the language issues knowing Michelle has had to work in her native language, Cantonese, Mandarin,…
Oh Michelle's standard Mandarin is still atrocious even though it got better over the years. But she now takes roles as an American born or overseas Chinese that speaks local dialect heavy Mandarin so it works. It is why Crouching Tiger was never that huge a hit in China - the mainlanders were very put off by the terrible accents. It did not help that Zhang Ziyi is in it speaking her flawless Mandarin in sharp contrast....

I loved this movie for all the reasons you so well articulated as well. But all the HK actors - Michelle and Chow Yuen Fatt spoke appalling, cringe-worthy Mandarin and should have been dubbed. I gritted my teeth through it.
