Because I am bored while we wait for episodes, here is some fan fiction about what the screenwriters could have done:

How Wen Rou ends up in the box:
E1: Meaning to help, WR skids ineptly into WSX's sword aimed at the bad guy
E2: The Cabbage and the Rock didn't like their nicknames but its not known who stabbed WR first...
E3: WR chokes tragically on a partially chewed piece of food while she berates the Advisor
E4: WR is so enraged to be locked in the closet she swallows her gag and suffocates slowly but thankfully quietly
E5: As she loses her balance and plunges down the roof head first, we learn WR is not that hard headed after all...
E6: WR turns her head back to glare and pout at the murderous mob after her and is trampled by a runaway horse carriage
E7: WR bursts a blood vessel in the middle of her epic brothel temper tantrum and could not be revived
E8: While shrieking at the advisor's men for detaining her, WR's accidentally bites her own tongue, silencing herself
E9: WR suffers three tragic blows to the head from the wine bowls the newly sworn brothers toss behind them
E10: Alas, WXS 15 past heartbreaks literally breaks WR's heart
E11: The ladder gives under WR's weight on the way up the roof with no one but a frail blind lady below to catch her
E12: A pissed off WR is goaded into plunging into the lake after WXR, forgetting that she cannot swim...

Yeah it got rave reviews. So many great young actresses out there.

Lol she looks very pretty but I don't watch that genre. I will keep an eye out for her, I am sure I will see her in something at some point though.

Never watched her so no view but I think actors in general should be made to earn their chops like everyone else. The one they cast is obviously not ready to be a lead. She can get practice playing supporting roles until she figures it out and not traumatise us with her exaggerated nonsense.

TLB starts strong but fades at the end. TBW starts slow but ends at a climax. They both could have been ended in a much better way.

Sad but true. We can always hope one day she actually watches herself and crawls into a hole with embarrassment never to be seen again.

I am keeping an eye on her she is only 19 and her acting is very natural and likeable.

She’s definitely a much better actress but at 31 I don’t think it’s in her interest to play such a young girl anymore. I think Wen Rou is probably supposed to be younger than Wang Xiaoshi who is 20. Bai Choufei is 26 and Su Mengzhen is 32. So far it’s also not that interesting a role I think Peng Xiaoran can go after more meaningful roles at this stage in her career.

Yes I think they are all really tall.

If you like classic wuxia then you will probably enjoy this - it has that nostalgic mix of jianghu adventure, rival sects, brotherhood, suspense and all kinds of oddball side characters. The fight scenes are decent - very heavy slasher kind of swordplay with no distinct style but at least not slo mo to death. The only issue is the FL is miscast and poorly written but so far she is more like a side character. My rating will probably plunge if she gets more screen time later on so that is the only stain on an otherwise good story.

I watch lots of modern crime thrillers and police procedurals. Just no romance and no sappy feel good shows.

They are really terrific and its really shot at Wudang but both leads were so annoying I could only FF through to watch all the fights!

I just hate it when Tencent does stupid shit like this. There are so many young actresses like Song Zuer, Lu Xiaoyu and Zhao Jinmai to just name a few that would have been such better choices.

Well they are both new wuxias which to me is just a catch all for martial arts stories that are not traditional wuxias there are no special defining features about them beyond that even though many try to claim there are.

Yeah it’s so deviant I was laughing my head off. Now that courtesan is a well written and well acted role indeed. I like the advisor as well and I think some of his interactions with the FL would be hilarious if a different actress were playing her part.

Yes I just never got round to reading him so I don”t know his works well enough to comment.
