First ep's energy is a lot like TBoY coupled with fantasy swish-swoosh fighting from SSS. But I like it (the FX and humour are good, the OP doesn't impress but isn't awful either, not too sure about CY's styling - what, did they try to make him look his own age? LOL, and Xiao ShunYao is relegated again to a villain role. I guess he can't help being typecast now. I definitely don't like the dubbing though, they all sound pretty strange.) Not sure yet if I'll watch it as it airs or wait for it to be over. At least there's a release schedule and this is not Youku to fiddle with it every other day...

It's a long hot summer. Maybe this will the be the thing to watch then.

Something changed around ep8 for me. Maybe it was the heatwave that's sucking the joy of life out of me, maybe…
DoYoon's turnabout made no sense. It was cute seeing ChoWon typo-ing all her goodbye messages, but I didn't feel really invested in their love story. He was in the first life too, but just there, nothing more than that. So either they wanted to go the webtoon way and make him part of it, but changed their minds, or they decided from the beginning he'd be active only in the current life. Either way, there's a lot of lost potential there.

The hotel business came and went, no fireworks, not a lot of actual importance. Including the uncle's failed assassination attempt. Was that it? Meh. The dad's involvement in it, also meh.

Kang MinKi came across as a psycho in that first life, Still, he's a bit interesting as in they didn't tell what his original problem ever was and why did HE remember his past lives. Though it's probably the same as her - he cursed himself for some reason and now he has to find his inner zen and deal with it or something. Oh well.

In the end, this was a very good drama about 2/3 through it, and then flatlined (for me). STILL, it's better than KTL which I dropped due to the sheer nonsense in ep4 (I could feel paint peeling when watching that drama). I guess I'll have to rely on other stories to get me through the summer...

Something changed around ep8 for me. Maybe it was the heatwave that's sucking the joy of life out of me, maybe it's actually the drama... but I kind of checked out. So in the end, this was okay, but for me, it didn't hold up til the end. I'd be sad about it - but I've already said it, there's this heatwave practically killing me, so strong emotions are out of the question right now, LOL.

Anyway, I'm glad I watched it and SHS is the best. I'll watch her again in anything she does.

By the first three novels of MXTX do you mean the first three volumes of MDZS or did you splurge and buy all the volumes of MDZS, SVSSS and TGCF too? LOL. I got them spread throughout the year and they were pretty costly - but worth it :D (TGCF still has two volumes upcoming though :()

Now I've started on 2ha, Thousand Autumns and YuWu and hoping SevenSeas picks up some of my favourites - like You've Got Mail, Qiang Jin Jiu, Copper Coins, Rebirth of a Movie Star, and so on, and so forth LOL. It's like - SevenSeas, please take my money hahaha!

I sure hope the blue stone can be recharged, because he (LKS) will definitely need to go back. I loved the heartbreak of realising she's his lover (even with the denying part). If he can go back and change the past, it would explain why YDJ's existence as of right now is being put into jeopardy...

Kai and YDJ need to get to that meeting and exchange info, ASAP. I hope nothing intervenes. But now that LKS knows... things will get messy if nobody lets him in into the secret stuff. And they'll all be in danger.

Kang Min Ki is acting so mysterious and suspicious and his looks are so manipulative. Why doesn't he just take…
Well, that's a big ask. Let's settle for " just take his shirt off" :D

Is Dong Joo getting super powers too? I mean the preview
My current theory is that as Kang San continues to use his superpowers, either a) something gets passed on to DongJoo or b) there's something going back in time each time, so that maybe the original case might be solved THEN and not NOW, so the future gets impacted somehow. We'll have to wait and see.

Honestly i don't know what people in the comments are whining about. This is so far a solid sci-fi, with interesting…
Also YongDae: You can tell me EVERYthing, I'll trust you 'cause we're besties.
DongJoo: He has superpowers.
YongDae: Gotto go, bye.

And I absolutely LOVE the frenemy bromance. At this point, I don't even know if MyungSeok actually doesn't like DongJoo or is just continuously taken by surprise by him and has a grudging admiration thing on-going LOL. But for me, LMS and YDJ's relationship so far definitely tops all other relationships.

Can we talk about Dong Joo? I understand why viewers are mad at him. He stole someone else's work and passed off…
I'm not mad at all. He's a flawed human but he realizes what is right or wrong. He just hasn't found his courage yet. I think that he eventually will.

People who want flawless or easily redeemable characters have forgotten that no one is actually a superhero or so black/white in morals that they are never tempted. The only place those characters exist (the perfectly moral/ethical ones) is in fiction and they're supposed to serve as models. In real life everything is always a certain shade of gray.

I'm just wondering how long it's going to take Dong Ju to tell Kang San his real name and that he actually teleported…
Going by the next eps' preview, that old schoolmate will tell him - maybe even show him some pictures.

And also going by the preview, something's changing in time, or some superpowers get translated to DongJoo, too. I think as the past crime is solved, maybe things are changing in the future. What if they manage to send Kang San back in time, so that nothing happens after / before the lake crime? That would be awesome - if he gets to keep his memories in the past - or awful, since the future will be re-written. As of now, I don't know how I want it to go on - go back and fix everything, or stay here with all the broken people?...

IMHO this is the best airing kdrama right now. The mystery is pretty clear, but what's not clear is how the superpowers are acting/chaging. Finally a good sci-fi.

I had the impression this was 12 eps long, glad to see it's 16 instead. I like how it's going, I want to see more of it.

Title The Untamed Spoiler
which part of its world is not clear to you? I think its world is typical for wuxia dramas and I would add similar…
Err, most of those dramas are kdramas (except for Reset, which is indeed a cdrama, but a sci-fi one). Kdramas work on different assumptions. I was referring to xianxia and wuxia only (through my admittedly limited knowledge of those genres).

Do you mean Wen Ning and eventually Song Lan aren't revived? They were dead, and now they aren't (though they are not alive exactly either...)

I also appreciate the drama for what it is - the main plot isn't the love story anyway - but I can't overlook the danmei element. The core is the good vs. evil fight, but in the original novel the heart is the unbreaking bond of love and loyalty that binds LWJ and WWX and that colours everything in it for me. The drama went beyond that with the siblings paralel stories, indeed (I mean, even JYL was barely present in the novel, though she is so extremely important to the story, not to mention Wen Qing was almost a plot device. But in the drama, they become full, independent characters, and I loved the drama writers for it).

PS . SSS is pretty good for a wuxia tale (though the best part in it, for me, were not even the fights but just a simple friendship between ML and his mentor). Other than the over-dramatic stances (like that hilarious sea of swords LOL), there's not much to hint at xianxia in it, imho. When they go over the top like that in wuxia, it's usually put in the manner of qi mastery (like Tang Lian's final fight in TBoY, when they were fighting with qi-moved stones and qi-made invisible swords, LOL).

Title The Untamed Spoiler
which part of its world is not clear to you? I think its world is typical for wuxia dramas and I would add similar…
IMHO there are a lot more supernatural things in TU (even in the drama, not just the novel) that pull it more in the xianxia realm than wuxia. But TU is not just xianxia (more or less) but danmei xianxia, so the rules aren't as rigid as in more traditional xianxia.

Some supernatural/magic elements they show (like the corpses being revived, or the XuanWu of Slaughter, or the spirits and the Underwater Abyss and whatnot) and a lot they left out (like the Measuring Snakes or the Hopping Goblins, LOL, or the ghouls and other things they hunted in that forest, for example. They keep mentioning how the dedicated cultivators - well, maybe just LWJ - would go around cleansing the world of dreadful things, the "prey" but don't linger on it, because they didn't really had the time for such a long story. Which they adapted as well as they could and did a great job of it, also IMHO, despite the lack of (more) PDAs :D

For danmei (so far), TU is the best xianxia yet, and WoH is the best wuxia yet. I have hopes for 2ha when it comes that it might be one of the best xianxia danmei, too. But then, who knows if it'll ever be released.

Cultivators don't age like normal people (they do age - just look at the clan leaders like Jin GuangShan or Jiang FengMian and the like). The scope of cultivation is either becoming the best at their sect's kind of swordplay, or becoming immortals. There are no immortals in TU, though.

This is not wuxia - wuxia is mainly Jianghu (the world of cultivation / daoism) but xianxia (martial arts fantasy) involves more supernatural elements. Some xianxia involve at least three realms - humans, deities/immortals and demons. TU doesn't have those but there are supernatural occurences (not shown in the drama because necromancy is frowned upon LOL, but it's mostly resurrected/animated corpses and vengeful spirits that can be used in fighting against your enemies, for example).

The Wen Clan (the red ones) don't live in the underworld, their leader is a tad over-dramatic LOL. The Clan's palace (where Wen RuoHan lives) is where he's perfecting his control-spell (that makes regular cultivators into monsters). But when the Wen Clan is overturned, it becomes clear they're just regular people (most of them anyway).

WWX was never in the underworld (he himself never remembers where he spent the time when he was dead.)

The first eps (1-2) and then from 33 to the end happen in the present time. Eps 3-33 are a long flashback to how they all came to this present time - the backstory on WWX and LWJ and how everybody came to curse WWX as the infamous YiLing Patriarch.

Just take the first 2 eps as a short prologue to the second half of the story and just enjoy the ride - it'll all make sense by the time the flashback ends.

As to ages - in the beginning, when school in the Lan Clan first happened, most of them are supposed to be around 16-17. Then some 2-3 years pass before the parts in the flashback end, so when WWX dies, he's around 19-20. The book says 13 years pass from then til he's brought back, so everybody else (who ages interim) is around 33-34 (but again. they're cultivators so no regular aging for them :D) and WWX as MXY is yet again around 16-17 looking.

As to mental age... well, WWX is a forever kid in his mind LOL. If he lived to be 1000, he'd be the same :D And as they say, LWJ was born old hahaha.

I got to about halfway through the episode and I just had to... This is a better soundtrack for all those ship shenanigans LOL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRh-dzrI4Z4

I might wait a bit on this one. Gong Jun is cute as a shy guy, Dilraba is cute when teasing him but something feels... superficial about it. Maybe it's the not top of the line green screen scenes (I got REALLY spoiled on that dep't by TTEOTM) or the bad subs (LOL), I don't know. But I'll wait on it.

No. The separation is new drama for the drama.
Yup, the 40 ep limit strikes back, again. When they removed the seasonal parts loop (by forcing them to have a longer time in-between that would basically kill off any steam the drama would have raised), they made sure longer novels adaptations will become bare-bones if resembling the original at all.

But this makes me maybe MTL the novel if it isn't translated, and see for myself, if it's intelligible. Or not, my danmei backlog is ever growing LOL, and I'm just coming down from the highs having just finished an awesome one.

Oh well, I really did like the idea of bunny bedroom play as soon as they found each other again LOL.
