How in the world is this drama so popular??? All I'm seeing is the King's abusiveness towards her and…
I agree with you but for whatever reason, people sometimes expect that the writer's will take historical license and gloss that over or simply write a purely fictional show loosely inspired by events....but I agree with you. In any event, I would not have known this was based on an actual person because I am not familiar with Chinese History

....I LOVED prince of lan ling. I finished imperial doctress and while the costumes, sets, attention to some accuracy like the gender roles was great I thought it was dull and the leads unable to stir up any feeling. bu bu jing i disliked, prefering palace the locked heart jade instead, and song of the dessert is one that i am interested in finishing. haven't seen the other ones

of the dramas on here, i watched cheese in the trap and Gu. I hated Gu and dropped cheese in the trap because it was nothing like the webtoon

i tried to get into this...the story is good but the editing is so choppy and its really putting me off... :(
it's def. filmed differently from other dramas i can see western influence in the filming style and I can't tell if the director is experimenting or trying to take dramas in a new direction

I haven't got that far in the drama but I could tell from episode 1 that it would be a dark, possibly twisted love story. I think it's okay to like a show, and even empowering to others despite the material because unlike in real life, you are choosing to watch the show (power) and you can choose to keep watching or not (power). If the show is triggering for some people, I wish that they put up a warning in advance so that people who do not want to watch this kind of stuff will be given fair warning.

so i posted an episode 1 summary under the episode guide tab if anyone wants to see if this is something they are interested in--i like it--looks like it will be vrrry interesting--the only thing so far that seems to really glamorize what is going in is the fact that the actor's are very pretty otherwise it doesn't look like a great time to be alive--just the opening scene, with Li'er, her grandpa, and friend huddled over a table in a dim light--they aren't exactly at a warm family dinner they are wondering how the heck they are going to survive the violence

The Zhou Xun poster looks amazing, but she's a little too old for the role. Hope they'll be dubbing…
but she looks so young! she doesn't age! has access to some sort of magic available only to celebrities

Opening Intro Looks so dark and melodramatic! So excicted!!!!!!!
i have been researching the director and it seems he is well known/has won a lot of awards. I couldn't find much on the writers (I wish I spoke Mandarin)

Dilraba is.....my fave. Not only is she a magnificent character actress but (and this shouldn't matter) she has such a unique beauty that really seems to be uncommon in dramas. Don't get me wrong, Chinese dramas have always been more unique than Kdramas in that female leads have a more varied appearance but she is just so pretty!

there has being rumours that the drama will end early due bad ratings , does anyone knows how true is this
@TianQi I just did not like the actors/characters. They felt flat/uninteresting and didn't seem to act very well (minus whoever played the Queen, she did a good job but her role was kind of minor). For something that takes up such a huge chunk of my time I tend to take the shows a bit more seriously--if I don't like the acting/story by episode 10 then I have learned to abandon it because I am always disappointed if I don't
