I guess I'll be watching Be Melodramatic next. This was just hilarious
If I recall correctly, Be Melodramatic is more slow and subtle. Extreme Job is more slapstick. It was Korea's number one box office movie in 2019, beating Avengers: End Game, Parasite, etc.
About the bathroom issue, we do the same thing in real life. we could cut pollution down by using public transport,…
Yes! Poor countries bear the brunt of climate change, which is caused by wealthy countries' emissions. I love that I found a fellow public transit supporter. Join the fuckcars subreddit if you haven't already.
I've watched a lot of Korean intelligence/sociological/psychological variety shows like Money Game, Bloody Game, The Genius, etc, and this show does a brilliant job capturing the of them, such as picking the weakest link and ostracizing them or a minority alliance trying to outsmart the majority alliance. But it also had unexpected twists and turns. At its essence, it's a very smart commentary about the unfairness and exploitation in late capitalism reflected through power dynamics in a sample society.
It's darker and more complex and sophisticated than Squid Game, so I don't think it will be as popular as Squid Game, but it was still a very fun watch. You will end up binge watching this.
The writer and director of Chicken Nugget, Lee Byung Hun, also wrote and directed - Be Melodramatic - Extreme Job - Sunny - Twenty - Scandal Makers - and more
So if you liked any of those dramas/movies, please give this show a try. It's short, hilarious, has great acting and suspense/mystery.
This is so delightfully dark and funny! I'm already worried about the family discovering the hidden agenda. One solution is if the family goes bankrupt or in debt, and the FL still loves them. It would also be pretty funny.
ITA. The synergy created from strong writing coupled with strong acting is in full force. The writer creacted…
Yes! I'm so happy we're on the same wavelength. Thank you for your in-depth comment. You worded it better than I could have. I agree with everything you wrote and your analysis on the PM's motivations.
This drama has the best acting I've seen from Joo Ji Hoon, Han Hyo Joo, and Lee Hee Joon. (Lee Moo Saeng kills it in Maestra).
I've always noticed the creepy undertones in the dynamic between Lee Hee Joon and Han Hyo Joo. He wanted her to "submit" to him, eg depend on him, ask him for help. But it came out in full force in the creepy camping "date" in episode 6. I loved their cat and mouse tension, I was riveted.
My guess is that Lee Hee Joon ordered the terrorist attack on his grandfather, and also the shootout in the forest.
There is pseudo romance. Han Hyo Joo has chemistry and romantic undertones with her bodyguard, Joo Ji Hoon. There is also one man with a creepy obsession, not revealing who bc it's a low key spoiler. She also has a mysterious relationship with Lee Moo Saeng, the nature of which gets revealed later.
i think he might be .. that's why i'm watching he's either that or a victim to something bigger than we know
I totally agree with your deductions! The husband is being cast with suspicion, but it will be cleared, but there will be another twist. The husband is guilty of something, bc it seems the FL is going to end up with the cop.
Edit: I've read the synopsis, and the husband's only "crime" may be that he knew his father's wrongdoings and turned a blind eye. That may be why he's depressed. Either way, I'm rooting for the FL and cop to end up together!
Watch for the noona romance with Ha Seok Jin and Oh Yoon Ah. They have great chemistry in an enemies-to-lovers relationship with eventual domestic bliss.
Lol at all the comments saying they won't watch if there's romance. If you can't see the melo/romantic undertones in episode 2, then you're blind. Sure, there's no overt romance and never will be, but the melo vibes are def there. But whatever helps those folks sleep at night...
I'm on ep. 3 and I'm loving it so far, but I have to say Seoha's lack of interest in various very obvious questions…
I realized those were some things that made her character unsatisfying. She didn't definitively stand up to the exploitative, sexually harassing professor. And I was hoping she was going to wise up on the sketchy landlord and do a reverse uno, but she fell into his trap. I like morally gray characters, but I guess passive characters are frustrating, even if they're realistic.
The writer and director of this drama, Yeon Sang Ho, also wrote and directed The Train to Busan. He is also the original author/creator of Hellbound and The King of Pigs.
This is a solid drama, well acted, with an ominous atmosphere and layered subplots. The village setting, shamanism and mystery reminded me of The Revenant. I do wish the female lead character was more satisfying, dark and complex (the stepfather situation was potentially disturbing but the drama didn't go there), that there was more interaction with our two leads, and that the villain was more tied into the story and satisfying.
