It's just toooo goood and going at such a decent pace. The Yan's are in exile but extricated. Without an extra minute to spare, the story moves immediately to the rebels prison break scene. I'm glad we're steering away from the study partner/Dowager Empress/Xue Shu arc and onto the rebels and ZZ.
so the royal family, the xue the yans, they're all related? dingfei/xiewei is the son of duke of xue and sister…
Yes to all your questions EXCEPT how come the emperor doesn't recognize him. DingFei was not quite seven yet when this happened. There was a flashback scene with a background voice that was supposedly belonging to his mom saying it.
Is this drama part of IQiyi's "Sweet On" 2023 lineup i.e. it's predominantly a love story? Not surprised, kinda…
He did pass the exam, ranking 1st place three consecutive years. The emperors and the court throughout history always prize someone with talents achieved through the examination process. We as viewers are given inside knowledge of each character. The Emperor doesn’t have the same insights with a viewer’s lens and even if he does, not at the same magnitude.
What's funny is if I remember correctly, she was described to be on the same level of attractiveness as XN in…
For some reason, she looks old but her profile says she in her late 20's. Maybe that's why she's the only study partner to have her hair down instead of an updo to combat her mature look.
It just baffles me how novel readers say xie wei is so red flag (towards xuening) when at this point in the drama,…
That's why I don't read the novels but just watch the adaptations instead because sometimes there are major changes. I made the mistake of reading a novel in advance once and it ruined the drama viewing experience. Complete lost of overall excitement after waiting for the show to air for a year. I would only read if the drama is so good I just want to continue the story with additional sources. I've read comments from novel readers talking negatively about Yan Li and Xie Wei. Maybe the characters are horrible and morally shady in the novel, but in the drama, they are awesome and haven't done anything that jeopardize their moral compass in the second life.
Why is the dowager so obsessed with making shen jie the crown prince and emperor isn't the current emperor also…
Emperor is Shen. His mom is Xue. Many court officials are under the control of Duke of Xue. So Xue holds a lot of power over the reign now.
If the consort has a son, he is next in line as the future emperor. Consort Qin is not a Xue, but whatever the family last name is. So, her family will take advantage of this and gain more power. Imagine Consort Qin's father, uncle, or brother working in court becoming someone like the next Duke of Xue and Consort Qin becomes the new dowager empress.
That's why the Dowager Empress wants her second son to be new emperor when Shen Lang die. She then can marry her niece, Xue Shu, to Shen Jie, and power can remain with Xue family.
The Dowager Empress is so vile. I was tolerant of her until the latest ep regarding her grandchild. She needs to die, and her puppet Shu can die with her, too!
XW is sooooo cunningly smart. He's asked the Emperor questions that seem innocent but enough to stir doubts and arrive to the Duke Xue's malicious intents on the Yan family. Got to love this man!
I think good king is the person who knows how to use and control his subjects. So yea, so far, he demonstrated…
I understand his position to be paranoid. After today's performance, I'm sure he's aware of his mother manipulative ways and her involvement with Duke Xue in bringing the Yan family down. He's cognizant once he's passed, his brother may become the Dowager Empress'es and Duke Xue's puppet.
Jiang XueNing is the most herself with Xie Wei. She’s not 100% herself with others as she seems to try to look…
Totally agree. I love it when she goes tete-a-tete with XW, strategizing on how to save Yan family. When they have these convos, they are almost like equal. In an earlier episode, they even act like a married couple when she reprimanded him for not sharing intel, complaining how could they be working as partner to achieve the same goal. Total hubby/wifey vibe scene.
Honestly, I didn't feel much for the Emperor's intelligence until today's eps 15/16. The scene where he told his Empress the reason why Duke Xue wants to annihilate the entire Yan family and his analysis on the whereabout the Yan's troops are situated along with his trust in Xi Wei's capability to deter a bloodshed at the ceremony, he's not so bad after all as a ruler. I could be his fan now, especially if he's going to be a matchmaker for JXN/XW.
