I don't think persistence and aggressiveness make a woman falls for a man. FL will see the ML's good and positive traits that he has been hiding so well from everyone including her in the 1st life. When she sees the real him, she will fall for him; and that's what makes him the winner in my eyes. FL fawning over SML is so cute. Honestly, I hope ML gets to witness how she idolizes SML so he can seethe some more. =)

Elder Master Yan may or may not know about the nephew's status, but Xie Wei as Yan Li's teacher has the hierarchical power in historical days to give Yan Li a ceremonial name and facilitates the ceremony if it's something requested by Yan Li's father. Not to mention, the father really respects Xie Wei for his support of the Yan family including saving his life.

JXN is so smart. The ruse she used to get her sister into the palace is ingenious. She asked the princess for all three things she wanted, but the first two requests she knew the princess would most likely declined, but out of guilt, the princess would feel obligated to grant the last wish. Bam!

I like her, too, She deserves to be with Shen Jie.

Yan and Xue aren't on good term with each other for at least 20 years. Yan family holds military power. Xue family has connections with majority of the court officials, but they can't make Yan yield to them, so Xue feels threatened and wants to destroy Yan family. It's not printed in black and white, but Xie Wei's mom is believed to be Yan's family (Yan Li's dead aunt) and his father is the current Duke of Xue. Currently, XW is working for Lord JingNan, head of the rebels, in the back and for the Emperor in the front. Think of him as a double agent.

In the 1st life when Ning dressed up as a man, the princess took a liking to her until she found out Ning was a woman. Then the princess ended up detesting Ning. But in the current life, from what I can see, the princess likes Ning as a close friend instead of romantically.

Totally. I'm so invested in the drama. Not only is the viewing experience amplified multi-folds, our judgement of the characters are also not tarnished between the drama adaptation and the novel. For example, poor Yan Lin's character has taken a beating, being labelled as a rapist based on commentators here with other sources. But in the drama up to the latest ep, I find him a rather decent character. I have to say I like the drama version of this character; not that I wanted Ning 'Er to be with him romantically.

He's older than them. He's believed to be already around 8-10yo 20 years ago. YL is expected to have his "coming of age" ceremony, so we can place him around 18. JXN is also around 18'ish given that she and YL grows up together.
