I truly believe that upon seeing GX in Qining, LC realized that he was still in love with her and wanted to court her back. He seemed to be in a teasing mode with a twinkle in his eyes when conversing with her at the restaurant’s hallway.

I don't think he knew about his brokered marriage to the other girl yet, so that couldn't be the reason why he was going home. He probably thought he could be in Beijing to woo GX and also help out XiaoNan and be closer to his family at the same time.
