I understand why so many viewers get frustrated when the FL goes to Japan. I chose to wait until all the episodes dropped to continue, but I keep pausing the show in abject frustration. The ML is such a terrible child. We've seen chaebol comeuppance stories before. But he is more villain than would-be hero. Sure the actor is doing a great job, but the character is despicable for far too long. He puts so much more energy into trying to keep his secrets than in helping the restaurant grow, fostering interpersonal relationships, or personal growth. The battle over the recipe book was the final straw, for me. I can't tolerate watching this even though I'd like to see the "happy ending". Dropped.
I’m still trying to get into ep 1, after a couple pauses. Anyway, ML's hotel room crisis self-dialogue scene (where he bifurcates into two versions of himself, arguing) got me thinking—did the CIA split his personality? (Is this like Fight Club?)
They call themselves seekers of justice, but I can't help but wonder: what kind of justice is it when public opinion…
It's natural for people to be cynical of legal repercussions in favor of their own intuitive perceptions. Courts are corrupt. Elites often evade justice. There is one set of rules for normal people, and another for the highly-connected.
This is not an endorsement or defense of Kim Se Ui (Garosero), nor am I insisting that KSH has some measure of responsibility for KSR's tragic & fatal choice. I'm just calling it as I see it: celebrity-hero worship is lame. Many celebrities (not necessarily but possibly KSH included) have dark secrets (possibly criminal) that they would prefer not be exposed. Celebrities of the stature of KSH (a year ago) are institutions unto themselves, with legions of minions working to protect the brand. KSH himself tearfully lamented this at his press conference.
The way I see it, human KSH was sacrificed on the alter of Star KSH. (And there are at least three damage control teams working to restore as much of the brand-star's credibility as possible.) This includes paid online agents defending the brand-star in every forum—MDL included. Other non-paid agents can be labeled "useful idiots" which was a term Josef Stalin used to describe those who repeated his propaganda unquestioningly. 😛
Whether the actual truth lies with the brand-star & his agency, those seeking justice for KSR, or somewhere in-between remains to be seen. I hope to be around when the truth is revealed, should that be allowed to occur.
I was really looking forward to this. If I didn't care I wouldn't feel so disappointed. I gotta learn to curb my expectations. 75/100 scripts suck, and another 24/100 are mediocre. Wake me up when that 1/100 script comes along. Only then will I hope the cast & production can deliver.
Congratulations to the actor Kim Woo Bin ! A brand new endorsement is great news for the actor. Why is it announced…
It is relevant because after a lengthy & extensive search process, Shabu-shabu selected KSH as their inaugural brand spokesman only to revoke that status a short time thereafter due to the scandal which reversed the actor's value to attract customers to the brand. And KWB follows as the second person to be so entrusted.
Whether the scandal or the resulting fallout was deserved or not is beside the point. These events are both reality and newsworthy.
I get that productions run months or a year ahead of release, but it's always a bit unsettling when an actor appears in two dramas concurrently or back-to-back as is occurring for Son Suk Ku with Heavenly Ever After & Nine Puzzles.
Can't believe she was only 24 when Vagabond released. It's been 7 years 😢 wasted her prime years indeed
IMO 31-32 is the perfect prime age. I understand why young people think youth is prime but as you get older most will realize that the prime age is actually early-30's.
K-dramas used to be typically limited to a single season which promoted concise storytelling. But OTT providers now give creators the long leash to run their franchises into the ground.
Kim Bum needs to distance himself from his 9-tailed gumiho character ever since that creep CEO of Gold Medalist changed his name to Lee Rang, soiling it. "Lee Na Rang" has changed his name at least twice, is Kim Soo Hyun's half-brother (and also reportedly his cousin), on their mother's side, and was the director of Real (2017) which caused no small amount of damage to Sulli's well-being & reputation.
I hope Kim Bum succeeds, and am looking forward to this.
I really enjoyed the first four episodes. Considering the short season, I would have preferred they address the IP theft issue head on. I agree with many commenters that love triangles is a distraction. I'm gonna suspend this from my watch list & binge the remaining 6 eps after the run has completed.
