Xiaoyao had gotten deeper than she intended to with Tushan Jing, and for me the point where XL even had a chance to end up with her, was unfortunately before she was brought back to Haoling.
If Xiangliu was near enough when she summoned him for help and he managed to get Wen Xiaoliu back to his army camp, she would not have reunited with her family and maybe they would have just carried on in their own way... although being with Xiangliu in his camp might still spell doom for her eventually, unless he was willing to drop his responsibilities and leave with her.

After that point, XL only had another chance when Xiaoyao was heartbroken and feeling lost over Tushan Jing.
If both men offered her a future at the same time, I think she would still choose Jing because she treated him more like a love interest from the beginning, compared to how she treated Fangfeng Bei, more like a friend.

I think this is the 'reliance' we have for our family members. Most times, we expect unconditional support from family, because they are our 'flesh and blood'. So I guess your brother felt reluctant that you being so far away, he won't be able to count on you and you can't count on him either... from what you have shared, I am glad that your sibling love is still quite wonderful 😊

For Cangxuan and Xiaoyao, they are even more so, because they are the 'only ones left'. Being orphans, their reliance on each other was even more pronounced as you have said. They had their grandpa, but up until a certain point, they didn't know what he was really thinking.

Cangxuan's father is the elder brother of Xiaoyao's mother.
They only called each other as siblings to sound closer.

I think if we trace back far enough, alot of folklore seems to have originated from China.

Actually Xiangliu existed with the same name from the original Classics...
I was surprised his name was not changed... but he was a general under Gong Gong ( Hong Jiang ) 共工 changed to 洪江 in the drama.
The interesting thing was they added 'water' 氵to the name because Gong gong was a water demon/deity that the deity Cangxuan was fighting.

Tushan Jing doesn't exist in the Classics... neither did Xiaoyao.
All these extra love stories are from Tong hua if I am not mistaken.

Honestly alot should have happened in S2 but they really chopped all the important parts away... it really feels like such a pity...
This drama should have been 80 episodes long and might have needed 9 months to film... but maybe they really could not make it happen with their budget back then...Still considering everything, its one of the best Cdramas I have watched in a long time...

Actually I think CX doesn't respect Jing at all...
Partly due to his own jealousy whenever he sees Xiaoyao and Jing being sweet together... So inwardly he wants to think poorly of him so he can justify his mindset that Jing 'doesn't deserve' her.

However, Xiangliu may be tough on Jing with his words, but he respects him after their dealings over the centuries, and knows that Xiaoyao can be truly blissful with him.

That was exactly why Xiaoyao would believe in Jing when he told her he could restrain himself when he was under the effects of the drugs.

He was someone who would wait for the 'right' moment for romance.
At that time, they just met again on their 'first date' after she returned to being a woman, and he thought it was too soon to get so intimate with her.

Xiaoyao on the other hand, probably wanted to kiss him for quite some time, hahaha well who wouldn't? In fact because it seemed that she didn't really have any girlfriends or someone to talk about such things with, part of her insecurity with Jing, that he may not 'like' her enough, was because to her, he 'wouldn't' kiss her.

So she couldn't help herself to kiss him again on the cheek under the cover of the fireworks and Jing realized Xiaoyao really did like him and so he kissed her.

Xiaoyao gave Xiangliu chance after chance but it was all during her 'down times' with Tushan Jing when she hang out with FFB it was because she thought Jing was no longer interested since he never got back in touch.... and her desperation to find a companion, especially during her breakup period was quite obvious that she was in a rebound frame of mind.

I also felt that whenever Xiaoyao was with Xiangliu, their dynamic was similar to Cangxuan instead of Jing. XL would always say something wry, and might hit her head etc I only get besties vibe and that was the way XL wanted it as well.

Jing never knew the full extent of how much Xiaoyao loved him, and since back when they were in Qingshui town he was under the wrong impression that XY 'liked' Xiangliu. As the story progresses, he will finally know just how much.

I agree, which is why whatever feelings XY ever had for XL it never became deep love like some people kept trying to push on the rest of us.

There was nothing misleading in how TH wrote her story since Xiaoyao herself said 'it was the first time that Jing and her liked someone and they were bound to make mistakes' - she definitely meant that her first love is Jing.

I don't know why some are so keen to fight for second place for XL. The demon deserves better.

Xiangliu is already an interesting enough character. People don't have to be so mad that he is 'unlucky in love'. For him, to have met XY and had a chance to love her in his own way, was enough for him to have experienced what it means to love another person. Just like how he had affection for FFB's mother, and how he was loyal to his foster father.

Sadly S2 was like filmed like it ran out of budget or something.
So many scenes that took a long time in the novel are all over in one scene.
XY took a few months to gain Hou's trust and eventually tricked him to give her that red fish core... but in the drama she succeeded like on the second try...
Good thing S1 won all the awards there is to win, because S2 is really quite poorly adapted... sigh

Everytime yaojing being sweet on screen I just feel super happy!!! 😊

Tonghua has based her two stories Once Promised and Lost You Forever on 山海经 and used some characters from it in her stories... namely Cangxuan ( has another name in the Classic ), Rushou ... Hong Jiang ( Gong gong ) and Xiangliu ( named unchanged )

That was exactly what I thought but some fans came down so hard on me for asking about that...
I thought drama dialogue specifically said you can't fake heartache... so when one feels it the other will feel it too... XL closed off his heart to XY so she can't feel his pain, but he could feel her heartache over TSJ...
Like I can't feel more sad for XL already...
