Honestly if Xiaoyao was still in white and Xiangliu remained in white standing from his shell, the scene would still have been as bittersweet without that 'huh?' head-scratching moment of inexplicable wardrobe choice. If novel Xiaoyao had been feeling desperate for someone to come save her, this drama Xiaoyao now seemed desperate to get married to anyone who would come to get her before Fenglong's wedding.
I don't really see this scene as romantic at all.. in fact I feel bad for Xiangliu. The girl is dressed up looking like a bride, waiting by the sea, but she was just waiting passively for 'destiny' to arrive. It was something that can happen or not happen for her. He was not important enough for her to take the first step to go to him.
