I have read some comments from others on weibo and they do have a valid point. They said that Xiangliu has been a demon so he probably did not receive any professional training to play the zither, so maybe that was his own playing style that he learned on his own.
But it was really so unexpected because we never saw a zither back at his camp ( maybe we have to go back to S1 to look for one ) so Xiangliu suddenly breaking into song was quite weird for me. I guess I ruffled some feathers by using 'horrible' but that moment I was really out of description. It made me had to fast forward that scene.
I had no issues with the old Lirong Uncle singing his army song, that was actually quite moving.
