satisfying.We're already past the stage where they are simply two strangers trapped in a political marriage.The red-ribbon incident in Episode 10 changed something fundamental between them.Now we're seeing the consequences.They're becoming comfortable.They're becoming more attentive to each other.And their marriage is slowly starting to feel less like an arrangement imposed by other people and explain.And there are sacrifices he's willing to make without expecting anyone to know about them.The more she sees this side of him, the harder it becomes for her to maintain emotional distance.Because it's one thing to be married to someone.It's another thing to actually admire the person you're married to.And that's increasingly happening here.🥹 THEIR CHEMISTRY IS BECOMING NATURALOne of my favorite things about their scenes at this stage is how natural their interactions feel.They don't always need a major romantic situation.They can simply talk.Tease each other.Work mystery remains unresolved.And the more people become involved, the more complicated the situation becomes.This is important because the Phoenix Heart isn't functioning merely as a romantic plot device.It's tied to the larger political structure of the story.Different people want it for different reasons.And because the tokens are connected to old conflicts and political power, possessing one can make someone a target.🐦 THE PHOENIX HEART IS BECOMING MORE THAN A TOKENAt this stage, I think the title becomes increasingly appropriate.The Phoenix Heart represents more than something valuable that everyone wants to possess.It has become a symbol of:• power• legitimacy• old grievances• political control• hidden history• and the struggle between different factionsAnd that's why people are willing to go to such extreme lengths to obtain it.The mystery is no longer:“Where is the token?”It is increasingly:“What happens if the wrong person gets it?”That distinction makes the story much more interesting.💔 LI MAO STILL COMPLICATES EVERYTHINGAnd yes, we can't ignore Li Mao.At this point, the emotional situation isn't as simple as choosing between two men.Jiayu has history with Li Mao.She has known him for years.Her feelings for him were genuine.So the drama doesn't erase that history simply because Xiao Wuyi is becoming important.And I appreciate that.Because eventually, when Jiayu's feelings change, it will feel like an actual emotional journey rather than a switch being flipped.The question isn't:“Who is better?”The question is:“Who does Jiayu become when she's with each of them—and who does she ultimately choose to build her life with?”That's much more compelling.🦅 XIAO WUYI DOESN'T FORCE HERThis is another quality I appreciate about Xiao Wuyi.He doesn't try to force Jiayu to love him.He doesn't demand that she forget Li Mao.He doesn't constantly remind her that she's his wife.Instead, he allows their relationship to develop naturally.And ironically, that's Setting the stage

Everything is set to drive up prices for lower level auctions. Zhang and Xie are suspect and Tottori calls to try to verify. His man locally discovered Zhang but he was handled by mystic nine and can’t divulge they’re not who they say they are. XinYue’s father suspects Zhang is present and staying in a back room for plausible deniability. He wants to spare his son in law but a mysterious backer wants to be sure he still follows the rule of the house which would ne yo behead Zhang upon discovery. Tottori coerces Huo to eat some shrimp and she recognizes her cure depends on appearing compliant. Xie is thrown off course bumping into Officer Luo. So is the ministry of war the secret backer of XinYue restaurant? I am just hoping it’s not a resurrected creepy eunuch. The first item for upper level is being bid on and program showing both boxes end episode. This episode is all about the cat and mouse game between the private rooms. I enjoyed the brief interlude of the Zhang couple. Xinyue is audacious and quick on her feet improvising. She threads the needle for her husband and father quite well.Now to see how the bidding goes for the main attraction.

They Were Never the Villains, They Were Just Two People Who Loved Each Other and Got Hurt

Many viewers have pointed out that the entire conflict could have been avoided if they had simply communicated. And while technically that’s true, I feel like it misses the point. If things were really that simple, we would have a one episode short instead of a 12 episode emotional journey. It’s the emotional tension, the missed chances, the misunderstandings, and all the complicated history between them that make this story so powerful.Even if they had communicated properly, I honestly don’t think Little Jane could have easily believed Big Jane was innocent. Everything was pointing towards him.Before Put died in the hospital, he mentioned Big Jane’s name.The night before, Big Jane had punched Put and almost choked him to death.The hit and run involved a sports car, and Big Jane drove a sports car.Then there was that phone conversation where Big Jane said to get rid of the evidence, and Little Jane overheard it.If I were Little Jane, I don’t know how I could have believed anything else. All the evidence was right in front of him. But we’ve watched too many dramas to fall for it. We know Big Jane didn’t kill Put this time.They’re both young. They both made mistakes. But what makes their mistakes so heartbreaking is that they come from believable emotions and character flaws, not just drama for the sake of drama.Watching Jane return to the apartment and touch the piano where Big Jane used to touch him, then lie on the bed, hug the pillow and cry while being overwhelmed by all those old memories genuinely broke my heart. You can feel how much guilt and regret he carries for not believing Big Jane.But at the same time, I can’t blame Little Jane for not believing him back then. He was young, scared, and everything he saw made Big Jane look guilty. Now he has had to live with that guilt and the pain of losing him for five years.And then in Episode 7, we see how many times Jane tried to explain himself to Big Jane and apologise. You can feel how desperately he wants Big Jane to understand that he regrets what happened.But from Big Jane’s perspective, he wasn’t completely wrong either. He left because Jane hurt him too. He was heartbroken, angry, and betrayed. Yet despite everything, he still helped Put’s family bring the real culprit to justice, even though he had nothing to do with Put’s death.That’s what makes their story so painful. Neither of them is completely innocent, but neither of them is truly the villain either. They were two young people who loved each other, made mistakes, misunderstood each other, and then spent five years living with the consequences.After all, even a superhero story without a villain would be boring. If these two had communicated perfectly from the beginning, there would be no emotional arc, no heartbreak, no tension, and no payoff.Their flaws are what make them human.And honestly, watching them slowly realise how much they have both lost because of those mistakes hurts so much more than if everything had simply been solved five years ago.

After the emotional shift of Episode 10 and the quieter relationship development in Episode 11, Episode 12 continues doing something this drama does particularly well:It moves the plot forward while simultaneously moving the characters forward.There isn't a separate “romance episode” and “political episode.”Everything is interconnected.The investigation, the Phoenix Heart mystery, the competing factions, Xiao Wuyi's position, Jiayu's growing awareness of the world around her—all of these things gradually push our leads closer together.And at this point, their relationship is becoming much more interesting because trust is no longer accidental.They are starting to actively choose each other.🦅 XIAO WUYI IS STILL THE MOST DANGEROUS PERSON IN THE ROOMOne thing that remains consistent about Xiao Wuyi is that he rarely shows everything he's thinking.That's important because the audience is often placed in the same position as Jiayu.We know he's calculating something.We know he notices things other people don't.We know he's usually several steps ahead.But we don't always know exactly what he's planning.And that's part of the appeal of his character.He's not the stereotypical “cold male lead” whose only personality trait is being handsome and emotionless.His restraint has a reason.He's a military commander who has survived because he learned how to control what he reveals.In a political environment where showing weakness can literally get you killed, emotional control is part of his armor.🌸 JIAYU IS LEARNING HOW TO READ HIMAnd this is where Jiayu's development becomes increasingly important.Earlier in the drama, she could easily misunderstand Xiao Wuyi because she only knew his reputation.To her, he was the terrifying general everyone talked about.But the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes that the public image of Xiao Wuyi isn't the entire truth.And she's beginning to understand his silences.His pauses.His reactions.His decisions.That's a subtle but important form of intimacy.You don't become close to someone only when they tell you their secrets.Sometimes you become close because you learn how to understand what they don't say.❤️ THEIR RELATIONSHIP HAS CHANGEDThis is probably my favorite part of the episode.They aren't rushing into romance.But they're also no longer behaving like strangers who happen to share a marriage certificate.The relationship is becoming natural.There is more ease between them.More mutual consideration.More willingness to listen.And the biggest difference is that Jiayu is increasingly treating Xiao Wuyi as someone whose opinion matters to her.Likewise, Xiao Wuyi increasingly treats Jiayu as someone whose presence belongs in his plans.That is a major change.Because Xiao Wuyi's biggest characteristic is that he likes controlling situations.Yet Jiayu is becoming someone he has to make room for.And surprisingly, he doesn't seem to resent that.🧠 THIS ISN'T JUST ABOUT ROMANCEOne reason I'm enjoying this drama so much is that Jiayu isn't becoming important merely because she's Xiao Wuyi's romantic interest.She remains valuable because of her own abilities.Her intelligence and mechanical knowledge continue to matter to the larger plot.That's important because the drama is establishing that she can contribute to the world around her.She isn't simply the girl who needs to be protected by the general.She can also become someone who helps solve problems.And that's why their relationship works so well as a partnership.He brings military and political intelligence.She brings creativity and technical intelligence.They're different kinds of capable.🐦 THE PHOENIX HEART MYSTERY CONTINUESAnd of course, we can't forget the biggest mystery surrounding the story.The Phoenix Heart tokens.At this point, the search for the tokens is becoming more than a simple treasure hunt.Too many powerful people are interested in them.Too many factions are moving around them.And too many old conflicts seem connected to the same mystery.The more the story reveals, the clearer it becomes that the Phoenix Heart is connected to something much larger than the immediate political conflict.That's what keeps the mystery interesting.We're not simply asking:“Who has the token?”We're also asking:“Why does everyone want it?”“What does possessing it actually mean?”“Who benefits if all the pieces are gathered?”And most importantly:“Who already knows the truth?”⚔️ THE POLITICAL STORY DOESN'T TAKE A BREAKThis is where Episode 12 continues the drama's strongest structural choice.The romance doesn't stop the political plot.And the political plot doesn't exist merely to keep the couple apart.They're happening simultaneously.Xiao Wuyi's personal life is inseparable from his military and political responsibilities.His enemies don't care that he's married.His political opponents don't care that Jiayu is beginning to understand him.And Jiayu's family connections make her important whether she wants that responsibility or not.The result is that their relationship is constantly being tested by external forces.💔 LI MAO REMAINS IMPORTANTAnd then there is Li Mao.I actually appreciate that the drama doesn't immediately turn him into a cartoonish second male lead.His relationship with Jiayu has history.Their feelings existed before Xiao Wuyi entered the picture.So the emotional transition cannot simply be:Li Mao = badXiao Wuyi = goodThat's too simplistic.The real question is:Who does Jiayu actually choose once she has the freedom to choose?And that's much more interesting.At this point, her relationship with Xiao Wuyi is becoming increasingly natural, but the emotional history with Li Mao still exists.That makes the eventual shift more meaningful.🥀 THE DANGER OF ASSUMPTIONSAnother thing Episode 12 reinforces is that this is not a story where we should immediately decide who the villain is.We've already seen enough evidence that appearances can be misleading.People hide motives.Families have old grudges.Political factions have competing interests.Someone who appears suspicious may have legitimate reasons.Someone who appears trustworthy may be hiding something.And Xiao Wuyi himself is proof that appearance and intention aren't always the same thing.He deliberately allows people to think certain things about him when it benefits his larger objective.That makes watching this drama especially fun because every time we think we've figured someone out, we have to ask:“Or is this exactly what they want us to believe?”🎭 HOU MINGHAO'S RESTRAINT CONTINUES TO WORKXiao Wuyi is a character who could easily become one-note.But Hou Minghao gives him layers.The character can be intimidating one moment and unexpectedly gentle the next.He can look completely detached while clearly paying attention to everything happening around him.And when he's with Jiayu, there's a subtle difference.His guard isn't completely down.But it isn't as high either.That distinction matters.Because Xiao Wuyi isn't suddenly becoming an emotionally expressive man.He's simply becoming less guarded around one person.And that person is Jiayu.🌸 JIAYU'S GROWTH IS JUST AS IMPORTANTJiayu is also slowly becoming more mature.She's still youthful and playful, but the political world is forcing her to understand that intelligence isn't enough.She needs judgment.She needs caution.She needs to understand motives.She needs to know when to trust someone and when to question them.And Xiao Wuyi is indirectly teaching her those things.Not by lecturing her.But by letting her observe how he thinks.This is one of the reasons their relationship feels more like a partnership than a typical historical-romance dynamic.They are learning from each other.❤️ WHAT I REALLY LIKE ABOUT THEIR ROMANCEIf I had to describe Xiao Wuyi and Jiayu's relationship at this point, I'd say:They're not completely in love yet—but they're already becoming the political story momentum.⭐ FINAL VERDICTEpisode 12 isn't necessarily the episode where everything explodes.Instead, it is an important building episode.And that's not a criticism.The drama is laying the groundwork for bigger revelations.The relationship between Xiao Wuyi and Jiayu is becoming stronger.Jiayu is becoming more politically aware.Xiao Wuyi is allowing someone into his carefully After the emotional high of Episode 10, I actually appreciate that Episode 11 doesn't try to immediately manufacture another huge romantic moment.Because honestly?It doesn't need to.Episode 10 already gave us the red ribbon, the blindfolded competition, the drum signals, the trust, the danger, and that beautiful sense that Xiao Wuyi and Xie Jiayu have crossed an invisible line in their relationship.Episode 11 lets that development settle.And I think that's what makes the romance between these two work so well.They don't suddenly wake up and become a lovey-dovey couple.Instead, their experience.He understands strategy, warfare, court politics and human motives.Jiayu brings a completely different kind of intelligence.She's inventive.She's observant.She's resourceful.She doesn't necessarily think the way Xiao Wuyi does—and that's precisely why she's useful to him.Instead of making Jiayu less capable so Xiao Wuyi can shine, the story lets their strengths complement each other.And that's one of my favorite things about this pairing.⚔️ XIAO WUYI: THE GENERAL WHO IS STARTING TO LET SOMEONE INXiao Wuyi remains Xiao Wuyi.Cold.Controlled.Strategic.Difficult to read.He doesn't suddenly become an openly affectionate man.But there are changes.And because Hou Minghao plays him with so much restraint, sometimes the smallest facial expression says more than a paragraph of dialogue.He's becoming increasingly aware of Jiayu.Her safety.Her reactions.Her presence.And more importantly, he's beginning to trust her judgment.That's significant for a man who has survived by depending primarily on himself.Xiao Wuyi is accustomed to carrying everything alone.His army.His reputation.His family's burdens.The political situation.The consequences of decisions made years before him.And now there is this young woman who keeps inserting herself into that world—not by demanding that he protect her, but by proving that she can actually stand beside him.That's a very different family.A country.A position.A secret.A grudge.A promise.And that becomes increasingly important as the story progresses.Because eventually Jiayu will have to understand that some people she trusts may not be as straightforward as she believes.💕 THE ROMANCE IS STILL SLOW BURN—AND THAT'S A GOOD THINGI know there are probably viewers screaming:“JUST ADMIT YOU LOVE EACH OTHER ALREADY!” 🤣But I'm actually glad the drama doesn't rush this.Because think about where they started.They didn't choose each other.Their marriage wasn't originally based on love.Jiayu already had feelings for Li Mao.Xiao Wuyi entered her life as the intimidating general she was expected to marry.So if they suddenly became deeply romantic after a handful of episodes, it wouldn't feel earned.Instead, we're getting this
