Actual dumpster fire

Ladies and gentlemen, perhaps you are confused by the fact that I call this drama a "dumpster fire" and yet give it a rating of 8, and I can understand that confusion, so allow me to explain.

Imagine, if you will, just a random stinky drab dumpster. Now normally we don't think about dumpsters, because why would you. And when you have to put your garbage in one, or if you see one overflowing on the street with disgusting things, and you actually are forced to think about a dumpster or be near a dumpster, you're like "augh gross" and you hold your breath and try not to look too hard at it or have to smell it's fumes.

But imagine that one day you are walking down the street in an average neighborhood, and out of a perfectly average looking dumpster, is a giant raging bonfire, like a huge dramatic bonfire just blazing away. And the smell off the thing is probably terrible, but yet at the same time it is so magnificent and extraordinary looking that you are mesmerized and cannot look away.

Well that is this drama. So let's break this down into 2 parts. The Dumpster... and The Fire.

🎬THE DUMPSTER.

Well first we are talking about PLOT. The whole foundation of the dumpster is messed up. The FL from the beginning was not written to be likeable. If you want to try to like her, you can. But her backstory is SCANT. They don't give you a home address for her from which you can relate and get behind her and feel like you know her and care about her. Sure they throw a pittance of a backstory at you, just enough to fill in the blanks and create the plotline. But there's no empathy for her built into this plot. So no matter what actress you cast in the role, it was ALWAYS gonna come out lookin bad. The story tells you she is an infiltrator fighting for justice. And yet your heart tells you she is just an ice donkey. But perhaps that's an insult to donkeys because even donkeys aren't as cruel and stupid as she is. And when I call her stupid, I mean all the way around. Because not only is she intellectually unable to keep up with her surroundings, but she also sports a rock bottom EQ. In the infamous words of Mitch Hedburg, "that's a double whammy".

Halfway through the drama, there's a scene where she rather dramatically threatens to unalive herself and I'd put 5:1 odds of any person who makes it that far in this show thinking to themeselves "meh, g'eiahead"

Now second biggest problem was with STYLING. I know. How bad does it have to be to actually be "second biggest problem". Well, it was pretty bad. Not for the men so much, but for the women, they were done dirty here. It is as if Stylist is maniacally driving a steamroller of vindictiveness, created from literally every current year social media chinese beauty trend, and PLOWED it over all the ladies with a merciless cruelty. You got your crown heightening hairstyle, dragon-lady french manicure, silkworm eyebags, "eye sparkle" contact lenses, fake eyelashes, sticking out ears, baby lipstick.... and all of it is done BADLY. These ladies clearly have natural beauty, and the stylist has marred it to dumpster-tier levels. Congratulations, stylist. Your revenge is complete.

And then you have just random stinky things in the dumpster, dumb clothes, thrift store furnishings, tropey crap, unconvincing acting, drab dialogue, random cliches (i tripped in these high heels on the pavement because idk how to walk right oh my ML broke my fall how sexy and fortuitous!)(oh no, the power's out and we're all alone in a scary storm!)

🔥THE FIRE.

Now THATS a fine red-flag ML. Obsessed, check. Possessive, check. Devoted, check. Borderline yandere, check. Gangster badass, check. Shitkicker, check. Gorgeous face = you know it. Good kissing, YES. Zhi Jie just NAILED this brand of sexy, he so owns it. And for some reason, HIS stylist did a great job. He looks so gangster, he is selling the sh*t out of it.

The script and plot is biased toward him completely. He is put in situations that bring out this badassery and this possessive black hot energy. The dumpster is, shall we say, the VEHICLE for this absolute 3000 degree blazing majestic bonfire, that is Zhi Jie as a near-perfect specimen of red-flag hotness.

Sometimes the best things can be found in the dumpster.

In this particular dumpster, is a perfectly good perfectly sexy TEN OUT OF TEN RED FLAG ML. I mean how does one even go about scoring something like this.

So I gave it an 8 because it's like hey... I'm not saying this is top shelf. Nooo, no no, not at all. But is it watchable and possibly re-watchable? YES, if ONLY because the ML himself is a red-flag masterpiece.

Stinky? Absolutely, without a doubt. But also glorious and hypnotic. I would recommend watching this, but only with proper personal protective gear, such as nose plugs and goggles, inhaler, possibly a gas mask or hazmat suit.

My Summary

I watched this drama because of Tian Xiwei. She is one of underrated thing that happened in this drama. She is Fan Chang Yu and she was born to being Fan Chang Yu. Fan Chang Yu character was like breath in the air on C-drama world. She didn't need to be rescued by ML, she gained merit with her own. She is not the smartest Female Lead but i think her EQ was quite high.
The highlight things about her is about Song Yan. She never have scrutiny against Magistrate Daughter who become new Song Yan fiancée and wants to help her to free from scumbag—a truly women support women. No matter how Mrs Kang badmouthed her and her sister, she never having grudge against her-except the part when her grandson bullied Chang Ning.
I liked this drama since they rarely have FL focused driven and i don't think ML was quite as an wallflower.

Never fans of Zhang Linghe's previous works his drama didn't match my acting aesthetic. But this time i still giving him credit when it's due. His styling was perfect for him. I quite like his eye acting; not hollow and i think it was his best performance. For the chemistry, i can feel the tension between them, even some of their recent kissing scene were safe compare to secondary lead. Xie Zheng was indeed being toned down than in novel but i think it was perfect choice, if they follow the novel i would afraid it would be like another Chinese short drama clichĂŠ story where they Yandere ML was quite ...unacceptable and it feel more humane, so Chang Yu can loved him without scrutiny . Personally, rather than they focused on his Marquis identity, Xie Zheng gained his emotional growth since he was quite 'heartless' one. The solid proof he rescue Chang Ning and Bao Er.

Okay for Li Huai An, i could understand his anger when they win the war while General He passed away. He still has pride as his disciple and feeling hurt when Fan Chang Yu wins the war while he was knock out. That's why their loveline was impossible even he has not related to We-Li political stance or without Xie Zheng presence.

The one thing that found rare in Zhuyu. Everyone gets time to shine and this is not only the Main Leads spotlight. Secondary characters and even some villain have layered dimension of their backstory. I understand the director purpose want to make Lin'an Village arch for 18 episodes.

For Yu Qian Qian about her transmigrator identity, it's quite look not important but actually explain her behaviour with Qi Min. Usual normal maiden would like to be favored by him but she prefer her freedom and prioritize his son. She used modern words and do some innovative business (if you watch Chinese short drama, you will understand she is not usual business woman from the way she talked abour membership and brand logo). Snow Kong styling was quite like Snow White and i quite support her and her son freedom.

-Lin Muran as Su Yuanqing is perfect example how his acting method quite memorable with efficient screentime. He is one-of-next top actor. But his character is like cockroach, really hard to kill.

-I have watched few of Deng Kai works in mini-drama and he was born to be villainous character and Qi Min was perfect example of his notable work. His chemistry with Snow Kong was far better than few of Deng Kai's mini drama that i watched.

-I never forget to mention child actor who played Bao Er. His scene when he got trauma by watching his father tortured maid and imagine as her mother was breathtaking. The Autopilot defense when he eats ink was quite perfectly portrayed. I hope he could get therapy for this role.

-Fan Chang Ning was not annoying as the novel and rather she is quite like little Chang Yu. The particular note is when she told Su Yuanqing as Turtle (in chinese 王八 means loser). She perfectly told story about her kidnapping experience with simpler nickname; White Hair Villain, Young Villain, Fairy Lady and its very endearing.

-Mrs Kang is another example that human is not purely evil-she basically project her insecurities to Fan Chang Yu and Fang Chang Ning.

-I quite liked Gong Sung Yin and Princess Qi Shu story is so endearing and fluff.

-Tutor Tao and Gong Sun Yin are quite relief character that needed in serious war theme drama.

The weakness about this drama is they should have 10 episode to cover all the drama and i feel General He arc is just like flash (i don't read the novel so it was kind of unfortunate) and in the alternate version they still give Qi Min-Qian Qian moment while they barely show Chang Yu and Xie Zheng child. I still giving this drama 10 since i think i can rewatch despite the packed and rushed plot about political arc. My complain is they reduced the main CP scene and add more Qi Min -Qian Qian scene.

My personal score is actually 9,75/10 but MDL have no 0.25 score so i just make it 10.

beautiful breakup

The OST was insanely good, it made me wish that LUNA was an actual group with music like that. Acting was so nice and I'm a bit sad that I didn't watch it earlier, though it was on my watchlist for YEARS. But it's better late than never, am I right? Anyways if you're looking for a show with some great music, an insight to musicians lives and group of dudes who are like brothers, I beg you watch this!!!

FEMALE GUMIHO AS A MAIN CHARACTER!!!!

Finally we got a female gumiho and the actress' work is insane usually. The character was built a bit cringily and annoyingly, but in the end I personally grew to like her character. The plot was a bit messy but I turned a blind eye to it and enjoyed it with an ease. Also the other characters were quite good, the other female eight tailed fox was so cute I could've died:D

A must watch atleast once in your life....

Just pure raw emotions..... What a heartbreaking story..... really tugged on my hearstrings..... a must watch. Really teaches you the importance of famiy and how much they sacrifice for you.... watching this makes you feel so grateful for the life you have. There isnt much action and its a slow burn drama but yet it makes you love it. A simply lovely drama. Its the defintion of actions speak louder than words. It just hits hard when you realize that all of sang woo s actions were justified because this is what you would expect from a small boy from the city. The grandmother was imperfect yet she tried her best and sacrificed so much for her grandchild because she loved him. She put up with all of his nasty actions because she was soft hearted and she really loved him despite him hating her..... i really cried throuhgt the entire drama. It reallys makes you value your grandparents. Overall i highly recommend it.... some people might get bored in the start but just stay till the end.... i promise you wont regret it

The plot was disjointed

I watched this on Song Yujia marathon drama last year and found out she collaborated with Wang Dao Tie..It's really hard to give a review. I can't say it's good, and I can't say it's bad. The premises was quite good but this drama feel disjointed about ML backstory and FL backstory seems not to be match. Surprisingly, I found Wang Daotie to be much better in the drama. He looks younger in here.

From the ML perspective, FL is too saintly. She always tries to run away, betrays ML's love, and even causes the death of ML's sister. In fact, because of FL's series of actions, you can empathize with the ML and feel sorry for him. But ML is real villain. He's not an undercover agent; he's the head of a criminal organization leader. So, it's not wrong for FL to try everything to escape. ML runs human trafficking organization and FL happened to check on the case. It was quite unfortunate case in this drama.

They used to much darker filter in this drama and it's not looking good.

Not perfect but I love it anyway.

Our Universe certainly has its flaws, but i.m.o. it doesn’t deserve a low rating. I think many viewers were so disappointed by one particular plot turn that they overlooked how much this drama actually gets right.
What worked especially well for me were the early episodes: the sharp, lively chemistry between the ML and FL when they were still bickering and clashing, their chaotic energy, and the genuinely fun dynamic they had. And Bae In‑hyuk and Woo joo are the heart of this drama, In-hyuk carries Tae‑hyeong’s entire arc with warmth, nuance, and outstanding comedic timing. His scenes with Woo‑joo are pure gold because of their natural chemistry and the  brilliant editing of Woo‑joo’s expressions. I also loved the supporting cast, the emotional development between the leads, and the heartwarming ending.
What didn’t work was the infamous love triangle. Viewers were already fully invested in ML/FL/Woo‑joo, so the 2ML felt like an unwelcome intruder. He was written as pushy and unsympathetic, had no real depth or personal arc, lacked chemistry with the FL, and took up far too much screentime. This not only hurt the pacing but also made the FL’s behavior confusing and inconsistent. Both the FL actress and the 2ML actor were left with very little to work with.
I actually liked the FL’s chemistry with Tae‑hyeong/Bae In‑hyuk, she showed more emotion and depth with him, even if not always consistently, she had her moments.
Because of the triangle, we also got far too little time with the ML and FL once they finally became a couple, far too late in the series. I really missed seeing more of their new dynamic together: their awkward but sincere love, their growth as partners, and their development as a little family with Woo‑joo. That deserved much more space.

Despite this, Our Universe is one of my favorite dramas. It has plenty of humor, heart, and emotional moments. And honestly, Tae‑hyeong and Woo‑joo alone make it worth watching.

Overhyped and underwhelming

The premise had so much potential—which makes the end result even more disappointing.

Unfortunately, the execution falls flat. I have to say, I think this drama is overrated. It was highly predictable from early on, and something crucial just felt missing throughout. There was no excitement pushing me to the next episode, no real thrill while watching. It simply felt... boring.

For a drama with such high ratings, I expected so much more. I forced myself to episode 5, but with 20 episodes total, I'd rather invest my time elsewhere.

It's a shame. I was genuinely looking forward to this one.

Gripping

I don’t think they could have picked a better lead male actor than Park Hyung-sik. His diversity in his acting roles is exceptional and this suits him very well. Like a Korean James Bond. Great fit and completely swoon worthy material for the fans. Hands down…all actors have played a great part as well as some familiar and unfamiliar (to me anyway) younger faces that we hope to see more of in the future. I’m a speed watcher, but not with this one. Music works really well with scenes. But of a late watcher on this one, but well done! Thoroughly enjoying.

Weak female characters

I am not satisfy..the plot is not okay. The female character should be smart like 21st Century woman but it turn out to be empty head.
And all the important characters does and only the female character and her husband stayed alive. The female character Made everything' chaos. Like she thinks so shortly. The writer is not good

Too cliche, not for me

Honestly? This one was too clichĂŠ for me.

I tried to get into it—I really did. But it was just too much. Even though I enjoy watching no-brainer dramas from time to time, this one felt like a waste of my time. I dropped it at episode 3.

I usually like Seo In Guk, and the other famous "boyfriend" leads were fine, but even they couldn't convince me to keep watching. The story didn't grab me, the tropes felt overdone, and I just wasn't invested.

Not for me.

we are living in a lonely world

There's no shame in having an outlet to your real life world's problems, a way to relieve your stress and problems. This show has the exact vibe, somewhat even taboo and shameful. But in the end whatever works for you works for you.
It was a quite unique show and Jisoo is a great actress, hope to see her in the future again doing acting work. Also insane cast in general, the greatest actresses and actors in one show!! A great drama to unwind to on a rainy day.

.

Honestly, I’m not really sure how I feel about this one.
I liked the script and the main lead, which made me want to enjoy it more. But at the same time, it felt like it could have been filmed or executed much better.
There was potential there, but something in the overall production didn’t fully do it justice.

ITS SOOO GOOD

these 2 are my dream couple in “emeralds hills” and they are finally the fmc mmc!! :) I really loved it but the plot thickens a lot:)) this is one of my best dramas!! I love the whole crew , the students and the teachers played a really great role and their acting is amazing!! I love it 10/10💗🥹 this show is beyond my expectations even though some parts was alittle crazy but the story line was really great, this show has taught me a lot , coming from a 15 yr old I really learned lessons and many new Chinese idioms. They really have a lot of wise words and they relate to our real life situations that many teenagers face in school!! sooo really loved this drama I could relate to some🥹 many scene that’s just so wholesome:))

BAYILDIM

Sadece “ask hikayesi” degil, ayni zamanda iki insanin kendi duvarlarini yikma surecini izliyorsun. Bu da hikayeyi daha anlamli yapmis.

Bence dizinin asil vermek istedigi mesaj da buradaydi. Yani sadece “ask” degil, insanlarin birbirini gercekten anlayabilmesi meselesi. Hani bazen ayni dili konussan bile karsindakini anlamiyorsun ya, dizi tam olarak bunu anlatiyor. Iletisim sadece kelimelerle degil, empatiyle oluyor.
