This script is too cruel
Dear X is so unnecessarily cruel with its characters.

What makes it worse is that the story keeps putting innocent people around Ah-jin in situations where they pay the price for her choices.

Exactly, what was the writer thinking, I guess we wanted a change but this is too cruel.
I think the writer was going for “let’s make the female lead morally complex instead of the usual innocent heroine.

There’s a difference between a morally grey character and a character who keeps crossing increasingly horrific lines.

Not A romance republican Era

Sebagai penikmat dramanya saja. Tidak mencari tau soal novelnya, Overdo memiliki kesan yang mindblowing buatku secara personal. Awalnya, sempat kecewa karena pendapat orang banyak begitu negatif. Namun, saat aku menonton sendiri dramanya, aku tidak merasa demikian. Ceritanya sndiri tidak fokus pada percintaan dan intrik romansa namun lebih kepada bagaimana hidup Qingyi dan Ren Susu begitu hancur dan luluhlantak karena orang-orang di sekitarnya. Membuatku bisa menilai bahwa drama ini memiliki banyak nilai lebih daripada sekedar percintaan klasik pada era tahun 30-an. Konflik dan trope dikemas dengan baik dan bagaimana pada akhirnya kita melihat bahwa apa yang Qingyi lalui dan Ren Susu lalui bukan hanya sekedar patah hati cinta, namun ketidak sempurnaan atas hidup dan kekecewaan terhadap dunia yang kejam terhadap mereka. Rasanya 33 eps terlalu singkat untuk menutup kisah Qingyi dan Ren Susu yang lebih dalam dari sebuah takdir yang benang merahnya ada sejak mereka remaja.

12 episodes are 11 too many to struggle through Jung Hae-in's performance

I tried. I really tried. I was actually serious about trying to watch this drama. I gave up after 2–3 episodes, then for some reason decided to skim through until episode 10 just to see if it would eventually get interesting. Finally gave up for good.

It's supposed to be a short 12-episode drama, yet somehow it felt way too draggy even with 12 episodes. But honestly, the pacing wasn't even the biggest problem. The acting from most of the cast was just so mediocre and predictable that it completely killed any interest in the story.

And Jung Hae-in stands out even more because, how are you supposed to be a badass gangster but somehow revert back to the same socially awkward and emotionally constipated character you always play??
The extreme silence and depressing vibes, that whole ‘I’m pathetic, I’m sorry’ feeling oozing out of him, and the same old tactics...
Silence, staring contests, eye contact that lasts for 10 business days, suddenly grabbing the female lead's hand and dragging her away instead of opening his mouth and communicating like a normal human being. 😂

Like bro, you're supposed to be a gangster. Why are you acting like you've never spoken to another human being in your entire life? Where is the intimidation? Where is the confidence? Where is the actual personality??

Idk why so many people on here are bashing her, but the FL seemed like she was actually trying to portray genuine emotions. This direct contrast just made Jung Hae-in's stinky acting stick out like a sore thumb. Instead of feeling like a badass gangster who happens to fall in love, it felt like Jung Hae-in playing Jung Hae-in again, except this time somebody put him in gangster clothes. 😭

At that point I finally quit. Maybe the ending was actually good, who knows. I don't care enough to find out anymore. 😂

It's honestly disappointing when the premise had potential, but the combination of the draggy pacing, predictable performances, and especially Jung Hae-in falling right back into his usual “quiet, awkward, emotionally suffering little man” trope completely killed it for me. This trope, along with many other character/ plot tropes, is repeated throughout so many kdramas now. Kdramas really seem to have gotten way too bloated and way too polished for their own good. The entire industry can't help but release shows like this nowadays.

Brother-in-lover

I have so many feelings. Firstly, the drama is a bit slow paced but there was enough happening to keep me from keeping it in 1.75x. They also had plenty of couple intimacy so that you can tolerate some annoying characters. If you like toxicity and don't mind miscommunication then you should like this show. It definitely kept me interested enough to binge it. Possibly used AI in some scenes.

Chinese BLs have decided that not only are they going to catch up in this genre after decades of censorship but show us just how twisted they can get. The story is of a man from a village who didn't finish school. He is married off to a pregnant woman from a rich family. They pay the village guy's family money for this arrangement. He sets off to live in the city with his wife and her family. His wife has no interest in him but he catches the attention of his brother-in-law who starts crossing boundaries with him and eventually gets fully involved. Every step is problematic. This drama really went for the shock value.

We are introduced to several other characters in the story - the vilage man, Lu Xiao Fan's family (he has a caring mother, an extremely annoying money hungry older brother, an irritating father and a sister who disappears later in the show), as well as the rich brother-in-law, Bei Lu Qing's friends who deal with stocks. Every side character made up for the lack of emotions shown by the two leads.

XiaoFan is essentially acts like a trad wife for LuQing - cooking and bringing him his meals, hanging around him and always avaialable when he wants to have sex. LuQing provides for XiaoFan even though he refuses gifts. They manage to keep their relationship a secret from their families quite well. Also, they don't really communicate.

The drama was watchable and I would have given it a 7 until the end when it became super confusing. I think the subs weren't great. In any case, miscommunication was the highlight of the relationship issue so it was also annoying. But they wanted some drama. Some back story for Bei Lu Qing was also missing.

I wouldn't really recommend it but it can be amusing for the shock value.

It’s just bitter, where’s the sweetness?

My review is only based on the first episode which I didn’t even finish because I was too annoyed to finish.
I don’t like timid and weak characters. This kind of mc is my least favorite. I get he’s from a poor background and he thinks it’s an honor to marry into a rich family but why can’t he see that that family needed him just as much as he needed them? Why act like they are only doing him a favor when he helped them big time too by marrying their daughter?
This is definitely not my cup of tea
I can’t continue watching this
I can’t feel sorry for characters that are sad puppy, punching bags, just because the plot wants them to be so. I can watch a proper angst with a good story not this, whatever this is, it’s definitely not for me.
This is too bad that it makes double helix feel like a masterpiece.

Entertaining but dramatic last half

I'm happy I managed to finally finish this after a break at episode 8 i believe.
The beginning was so funny, and refreshing to have such a proud and loud female lead travel to modern times, loved her. Male lead was of course attractive and brooding. I did love him falling for her first and the start of their meetings as enemies.
With the taking a break it certainly made the two halves very present, the first then felt almost disconnected. With so much trauma and murder and attempted murder but like, no police presence until like the final ep it felt like, at least in a meaningful enough way that made it seem like they were doing something. I do think it dragged at the end. It would've worked fine with less of the trauma filler at 10 or 12 episodes. Not sure i lik3d how they left the time travel either, like got it and hadn't expected it but they didn't really explain why.
All in all, I enjoy3d it and the romance was decent, but yeah, story dragged and would of made more of an impact with less drama at the end.
Was entertaining enough that I finished it though. I've been in a real slump.

Boring

The story of *The Road to Splendor* is slow to get going. There is a lot of family drama, status, money, power, and hierarchy. Things start picking up around episode 4. The female lead is very annoying at first—much like the one in *Melody of Love*. 😤 She also gets the male lead into trouble. There is absolutely no chemistry—nothing at all. 💔 The story really starts to get tedious from episode 12 onwards. Her best friend Yake is in an unhappy marriage. That is one plus point: the husband is repulsed by his new bride, and things she does . 😒 I’m stopping at episode 14; it’s not worth it.
I'm not a novel writter but give my two cents .

"Un drama senza anima."

Di solito riesco ad arrivare in fondo anche alle serie meno riuscite, ma qui siamo oltre il limite. Nove episodi sono stati più che sufficienti per capire che dietro questa produzione c'è il nulla assoluto: trama stantia, ritmo inesistente, cliché riciclati e un'assenza totale di chimica.
Amo recuperare i drama del passato per vedere i primi passi degli attori che apprezzo, ma qui sono rimasta del tutto spiazzata da Song Weilong: è costretto a un'interpretazione così monocorde e priva di vita da renderlo irriconoscibile, al punto da farmi chiedere se fosse davvero lui. Quando persino fissare il soffitto diventa un'alternativa più avvincente dello schermo, l'unica scelta sensata è il drop immediato.
Non vorrei neanche lasciare un voto numerico dato che per principio non valuto mai le serie che non ho portato a termine, ma MyDramaList mi obbliga comunque a inserire una votazione: si tratta in ogni caso di una grave, gravissima insufficienza. La vita è troppo corta per sprecare tempo su gusci vuoti.

i usually don't watch movies but i chose to watch this because it had already shattered my soul in the trailer- beyond zhou ye and arthur chen being AMAZING actors, i really want to applaud the aesthetics and beauty of how it was directed; i shed so so many tears for this story and of course, arthur chen's ability to portray such intense emotions hits me every single time !! i had previously watched his lighter and princess last year which i loved so much as well as zhou ye's legend of the female general, and i agree with the vast majority saying that this pairing is impeccable

she is Amazing driver too ?

A Bona Fide Killer — Review

It was a pretty good drama until Episode 5. Then Episode 6 happened, and the writing completely started going off the rails.

My biggest problem is the FL. She isn't just highly skilled — she is written as if she has absolutely no limitations.

She's supposed to be an elite sniper, which is already an impressive specialization. But apparently being a great sniper isn't enough. Now she also has to be an expert close-combat fighter who can take on younger opponents with knives.

And the way she behaves makes it even worse. She's incredibly arrogant.

There is literally a scene where she removes her own earpiece so she doesn't have to listen to her handler/hacker, even though he's trying to tell her that she's fighting their own people and that she could have killed a new assassin.

All because she has decided to protect an old criminal she barely even knows.

Why is she even meddling in this business?

She's an assassin herself. She is perfectly willing to kill people, but suddenly she decides that this particular old criminal needs to be protected — even if doing so means fighting her own side and potentially killing another assassin.

And nobody around her seems willing to question her.

Everyone is basically:

"Wow, she's such an amazing sniper."
"She's incredible."
"Nobody can beat her."

Meanwhile, I'm sitting there thinking:

She's a sniper. Why does she suddenly need to be the best knife fighter too?

The problem is specialization

Humans have limitations.

Everyone has roughly the same 24 hours in a day. If someone spends years developing one particular skill, they can become extraordinarily good at it, but that doesn't mean they automatically become world-class at everything else.

That's why I find the FL's character so unbelievable.

It's the same reason we see specialization everywhere — even in AI.

There are chess-playing AI systems specifically designed and optimized for chess. They can absolutely destroy a general-purpose AI at chess.

You wouldn't expect a chess engine to suddenly become the world's best image editor just because it's excellent at chess.

But this drama essentially wants me to believe the FL is the one perfect AI model:

Best sniper + best assassin + best close-combat fighter + great strategist + physically capable of beating younger opponents + always right + never really vulnerable.

She's basically a one-woman AGI with every benchmark at 100%.

And that's where the character stops feeling like a highly trained human being and starts feeling like a power fantasy.

If she's an elite sniper but gets caught in close quarters by a younger knife fighter, that's a weakness. And weaknesses make characters interesting.

She could use her experience to create distance, manipulate the environment, escape, or find another way to win.

That would actually make her impressive.

Instead, the writers seem to say:

"Don't worry. She's the Great Ajumma Sniper. She can fight too."

And apparently being 46 doesn't matter either. She can casually beat younger women in physical combat because... she's just that awesome.

There's nothing wrong with having an older female protagonist who is extremely capable. The problem is making her capable of everything while giving her practically no meaningful weaknesses.

A character doesn't become better because you keep adding skills to her character sheet.

Sometimes "she's the best sniper in the world, but she's not a great hand-to-hand fighter" is much more believable — and much more interesting — than "she's the best at everything."

The first five episodes made me think this could be a really good assassin thriller.

After Episode 6, it started feeling like an "old aunty badass fantasy" where every other character exists to admire her and the writers desperately want the audience to know how amazing she is.

Good drama until Episode 5. After that, the FL became so overpowered, arrogant and unrealistic that it completely ruined the tension for me.

Saved The Best For Last: FIRE.

You absolute madlads. You actually did it. You saved the best for last.

Now, don't get me wrong—EARTH gave us warmth, WATER gave us depth, and AIR gave us... well, breathing room. But FIRE? FIRE is the kind of storytelling that makes you want to stand up and applaud while simultaneously throwing your remote at the screen. Three stories about commitment and noble intentions, and then you drop this masterpiece about a lifelong debt of honor. This isn't just GL—this is everything good and beautiful and engaging about human long-form entertainment. And may I add: Huwatta clapback on AI-generated faux-art and vertical video noise! Chef's kiss.

Sweetest Moments
Fai and Phrao trapped in that cave together—because of course they were destined to be. Every time Fai smiles, it's like honey and caramel dripping onto the scenes in slow motion. Someone needs to bottle Namneung Milin Wathanakit's captivating grin and sell it as a sugar substitute. Stevia, you're on notice.

Funniest Moment
Aunt Panee's rain-soaked hair deserves its own IMDb credit. I'm genuinely impressed that the entire cast and crew maintained their composure during that scene, because I absolutely did NOT. When the camera zoomed in on that melting inverted cereal bowl situation? Full-blown, pee-in-my-pants, gasping-for-air laughter. Northstar, I'm begging you—release the BTS footage. We need to see the takes where everyone broke character. For pisterity.

Best "This Is So Fai" Moment
"You can go now if you're done here."
That line. THAT LOOK. The sheer fiery alpha energy that only the youngest W cousin possesses. Rose married into kindness, Chonlada into peace and calm, Blew into sweet fresh air. But Kaphrao, dear girl? You're in for a high-octane ride. Buckle up and hold on tight.

Most Iconic SEA Drama Moment
You'd never catch this in a J-drama or K-drama. But a Thai or Pinoy teleserye? Always. I'm talking about the classic "Let's make a massive public scene and then act shocked when the entire town is gossiping about our dirty laundry" routine. Panee at the fish market, unleashing her fury while everyone around her explodes in chaos—that was unadulterated, grade-A, Southeast Asian angstsy rage-bait. And I ate every single second of it.

Most Competitive Roles of the Season
It's the showdown of the century, folks. The battle for most vile, detestable, irredeemable evil hag of all time. Who takes the crown? Is it that monstrous mother-in-law from In Love Forever? Or is it this disgraceful witch-aunt from FOUR ELEMENTS: FIRE?

My first ever Korean variety show, and somehow it became one of the most meaningful shows I’ve ever watched. ❤️ Jae Seok’s B&B Rules didn’t just entertain me—it genuinely reached my heart. I felt like I was actually there with them, sharing every laugh, every little moment, and every emotional scene. Yoo Jae Suk, Byeon Woo Seok, Lee Kwang Soo, and Ji Ye Eun were the perfect four hosts—Kwang Soo had me laughing nonstop, while Jae Suk felt like a dad looking after everyone. 🥹 I started watching because I’m a huge BWS fan, but by the end, I loved every single person and guest, especially the two groups and the surprise appearance of Lee Hyori and her husband Lee Sang Hoon. During some really hard times, this show felt like a warm place to escape to. It was so healing, deeply emotional, and genuinely comforting—every moment really stayed with me. ❤️‍🩹 I already know I’ll miss this feeling and want to rewatch it again.
