Locked Room Drama

Went searching for this one in the internet archive after finding out that they have Japanese dramas on their as well. 10 years later, the drama still holds up.

As a Procedural / Puzzle Solver drama it has limited focus on character development and focuses on the competency of Kei Enomoto (Satoshi Ohno), a security worker and lock fanatic, Junko Aoto (Erika Toda), a new lawyer who's emotions often propel the plot towards taking cases, and Gou Serizawa (Koichi Sato), the skeptical ambitious senior lawyer who often helps provide comic relief.

While I enjoy crime dramas, I am a sucker for more campy procedural crime dramas. I enjoyed the shows focus on "Locked Room Murders." Just like other procedurals, there are limited time in the episodes, so there are limited suspects. The drama does a good job of keeping the audience engaged on the "how" more than the just the "who." More than just the talent on screen, I also enjoyed the editing and music. The scores are excellent and are also used as identifying cues in multiple ways in each ways. There are dramatic cuts in scenes and music scores to keep the audiences attention. Finally of course there is the outro that includes one of ARASHI's songs (Face Down) each episode.

It was entertaining and mostly light hearted. 9.5/10 - I re-watched it, didn't I?

​Blood may be the strongest bond, but that doesn't mean it's always the safest

I almost forgot about this drama's existence, but I’m so glad I ended up watching it anyway. I have zero regrets getting a Viki premium subscription just to follow this show to the very end.

​To be honest, I almost dropped it within the first three minutes because the editing felt a bit off—it was overly dramatic, and I was worried it would turn into a cheap, over-the-top soap opera. But I’m so glad I gave it a chance.

​Honestly, this is the first C-drama that gave me serious nostalgia for 2012-era K-dramas. The most fitting tags for this show are definitely Life, Family, and Dark Romance. Even though it carries a heavy atmosphere and tackles sensitive topics with high-stakes drama, the underlying message is actually simple yet profoundly deep.

​It shows how a child is forced to grow up in a toxic and hostile environment. They try hard to stay on the right path, but naturally, dry soil can't grow just any plant—it has to adapt just to survive. And that is exactly what happened to Chen Yi.
​One thing I truly applaud about this drama is how it dares to break the old saying: "A parent's love lasts a lifetime, while a child's love is short-lived."

​This drama shows us that this proverb isn't always true. We see how many cases of neglect, violence, abuse, and exploitation happen to children at the hands of their own parents. And how many parents abandon their children, only to return when they are old just to depend on them? It leaves the child not even knowing whether to feel angry, sad, or relieved when it all happens.
​What happened to Miao Jing and Chen Yi might be an extreme case, but it accurately portrays how many people are unfit to be parents. It depicts how many children are forced to grow up too soon and stray off path simply because they lacked proper guidance.

​In this story, Chen Yi was lucky to have Zhou Kang An—an adult who never grew tired of guiding him back whenever he lost his way. Without that one person, Chen Yi and Miao Jing’s lives would have been completely different. Growing up in an extremely toxic environment, they didn't even understand how to love or care for someone properly at first.
​Because of that, I honestly found Chen Yi and Miao Jing to be one of the most toxic couples I've seen in the first two-thirds of the drama. But it makes total sense—when you've never experienced a "normal" life or relationship, it's immensely difficult to know how to get back to a normal state.

​Yet, the drama ultimately offers a ray of hope. No matter how dark or broken our starting point is, it doesn't mean our destination has to end up broken too. Miao Jing and Chen Yi undergo one of the most complex character developments I've ever seen in a C-drama. Deep down, they are just two wounded children longing for the warmth of a "home."
​Even if they might never become a "typical" normal couple by the end, we know they finally found a home in each other.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to Zhou Kang An, who acted as a parent, friend, and moral compass for our main leads. His own life was incredibly heavy, yet he chose to live by his principles. I'm sure his regrets will stay with him forever, but he managed to move forward. He and Wen shared a happy chapter together, and though their paths were destined to part sooner than expected, life must go on. We all face obstacles and broken pieces in life, but as long as we keep living, we give ourselves a chance at happiness.

As for the acting, I was already so blown away by the deep message of this drama, but if I had to comment, I'd say I am extremely satisfied. The entire cast, from the minor roles to the main leads, brought incredible depth to their performances. Out of the four works of Song Wei Long I've watched, this drama fully unlocked his potential as an actor. I used to doubt his acting skills—with a face that handsome, I often felt underwhelmed by his performances—but here, he completely shattered all my doubts. Song Wei Long and Zhang Jing Yi turned out to be the most surprisingly satisfying pairing I’ve watched in a C-drama.

Passer l'amour à la machine...

Auréolée du récent succès de Gasu Ningen, même si c'était loin d'être le personnage le plus intéressant, Aoi Yu rempile déjà sur Netflix quelques jours après la sortie du remake événement. En réalité, c'est surtout Big N qui essaye de s'accaparer cette actrice légendaire, comme il l'a déjà fait avec Yamazaki Kento et d'autres, en signant des partenariats avec les chaînes et plateformes japonaises afin de diffuser à un rythme industriel les œuvres où elle apparaît. Cela dit, Until the T-shirt Dries est une coproduction avec la chaîne TBS qui, du coup, fera baisser le rythme infernal des sorties des épisodes en une seule fois, spécialité du McDonald's des dramas, en adoptant le rythme classique des saisons à la japonaise avec un épisode par semaine, jusqu'à la fin de l'été.

Dix épisodes d'un mélodrame teinté de secrets et, très certainement, de retournements de situation pour clôturer chaque paquet de 50 min. On n'aura donc pas droit à des épisodes bouche-trou de 30 min pour en faire péniblement 6 ou 8, cette fois-ci. Car on est bien en face d'une série qui prend le temps de décrire les sentiments, de transcrire et transmettre les émotions. Le premier en déborde déjà et prend vraiment son temps pour nous dévoiler les personnages et l'intrigue.

Porté par le quatuor de quadragénaires Aoi Yu, Kaho, Nakajima Ayumu et Matsuyama Kenichi et des featuring comme Lily franky, il est clair que tous ces acteurs sont à l'apogée de leur art dans cette tranche d'âge. Et le jeu d'acteur sera au centre de la transmission des émotions, avec des comportements parfois touchants, parfois inquiétants. Après le drame du premier épisode, on ne sait jamais vraiment si ce qui apparaît à l'écran relève du détachement, du déni, du secret ou de la manipulation. C'est justement la retenue de nos personnages qui nous fait vibrer, pleurer avec eux ou nous interroger sur leurs réactions et leurs cachotteries.

Vous l'avez compris, j'essaie d'être le moins précis possible sur l'histoire afin que vous ressentiez les émotions d'une personne ne connaissant pas le pitch. C'était, comme souvent, mon cas et j'ai bien failli abandonner après les premières minutes de slice of life plutôt ennuyeuses, les histoires de causeries dans les laveries étant presque un genre à part entière au Japon. Mais un coup d'œil à l'équipe de production m'a convaincu de persévérer jusqu'au bout, alors que le casting semblait déjà parfait : le réalisateur de Mikami Sensei (autre perle d'émotion) et Kujo l'Implacable (peut mieux faire), mais surtout la scénariste de Umi no Hajimari et Silent, Ubukata Miku, dont on ne peut qu'apprécier la sensibilité dans ses œuvres, même si le récent Uso ga Uso de Uso wa Uso da ne m'a pas convaincu. Peut-être à cause du format.

L'attente du T-shirt qui sèche est certainement le mélo-mystery drama de l'été, bien plus convaincant que 25 Years of You qui s'offre en plus le luxe de se terminer sur un des trop rares nouveaux titres du groupe Spitz, signe de qualité par excellence pour un drama.

Needs to more script edits again

The pacing of this drama is atrocious and the weakest point is writing for interpersonal connections, for one character to convince another of something or just to bond. The drama has the bones of a stronger drama if only the script was better. The acting of the two leads are serviceable, but there's not much in the way of chemistry either inherently between the characters nor in the writing for them, but when they finally kiss, it's nice.

High school guys holding hands is not a common thing, certainly not in 2008, but it's nice neither guys have any issue with it and it is very cute. The writing just put Cyworld in the script and called it a day on establishing the time period. The time traveling guy doesn't act much more different than the high schoolers, in fact probably less mature. It's annoying that he's a grown man, but can't figure out a nicer way to break a friendship with the guy he likes than being very cruel and mean. Especially to someone he liked that died so early and haunts him to current day.

Hye Seong's change of heart is really sudden and doesn't give a good explanation to Yu Jin, He didn't try at all with his other friend Taejun and just acts like an insane person saying things without proof that would make his friend believe without waiting for violence to happen and especially since things are unfolding differently than the original timeline and could lead to something worse for Yu Jin and Taejun.

.At his skill level, it makes no sense for him to draw something quickly for their group homework. Hye Seong's color blindness also didn't come into play in a clear way. It seemed more like an stylistic cinematography choice than something that was supposed to have bearing in the story. The fake out editing like Yu Jin ran into traffic again was not good. Just cutting off as he ran around the corner with Tae Jun's concerned reaction was good enough

I do like the little changes that occur like in the photos of the current day from injuries to new photos on the wall from new memories made in the past or disappearing. The strongest part of the series is it's time travel mechanics. It was interesting that Hye Seong is physically disappearing from the present and appearing in the past, but it's unclear if he's completely meshed with the version of himself in the past who no long appears when he returns to the present. How would the timeline continue without a version of him in the past going to art school and being with his family? There's so many holes in this script.

Nothing New Under the Sun But So Ji Sub Makes It Worth the Ride

If you have watched My Secret Terrius, Vagabond, Taken, or virtually any retired-black-ops-dad thriller from the last fifteen years, you already know the general beat of Agent Kim Reactivated. The setup is as familiar as it gets: a mild-mannered former operative hiding a lethal past tries to live a quiet life, only to be dragged back into the dark world he left behind when a personal crisis forces his hand. He breaks his vow of non-violence, gears up, and goes on a relentless mission against corrupt forces.

Stripped down to its core writing, the series brings absolutely nothing new to the table. The narrative follows an exceptionally predictable formula. A quiet lead gets pushed past his breaking point, switches into full-blown beast mode, and systematically works his way up the villain food chain. The script relies heavily on standard Korean drama conveniences, featuring exaggerated villains who exist purely to be punched, over-the-top action sequences that require a massive suspension of disbelief, and sudden political subplots injected to pad out the runtime. The inclusion of complex agency conflicts feels tired and recycled, taking what could have been a tightly focused rescue story and stretching it across familiar genre tropes. On its own storytelling merits, the show is a standard, baseline 7 out of 10. It remains entertaining enough for a fast-paced weekend binge if you enjoy high-octane action, but it ultimately lacks original ideas.

Yet, despite all the cliché beats and predictable story turns, the drama earns a full extra star purely for one reason: So Ji Sub. His sheer presence on screen completely transforms what could have been a forgettable thriller into an endlessly magnetic watch. So Ji Sub has mastered the weary, soft-spoken killer archetype like no one else. Even when the dialogue leans cheesy or the plot logic stumbles, his brooding intensity, quiet emotional depth, and impressive physical acting hold the entire project together. He sells the gentle domestic moments just as convincingly as he sells single-handedly taking down a room full of foes. Watching him effortlessly command the screen gives the show an extra spark that elevates the entire experience.  

Ultimately, Agent Kim Reactivated will not win any awards for groundbreaking narrative choices or innovative storytelling. It is a completely recycled revenge formula wrapped in glossy production values. However, if you tune in specifically to watch So Ji Sub look undeniably cool while kicking butt alongside a great supporting cast, it delivers exactly what you came for. It is a solid 7 out of 10 series that gets bumped up to a very satisfying 8 out of 10 simply because So Ji Sub carries it so well.

Antes de tudo: Que dorama

Agente Kim: Reativado é uma das melhores surpresas da Netflix este ano. Do primeiro ao último episódio, a série consegue equilibrar ação intensa, humor na medida certa e uma história emocionante sobre um pai que faria qualquer coisa para proteger a filha. A trama acompanha um homem aparentemente comum que precisa voltar ao seu passado como agente de operações especiais quando sua filha desaparece.
O grande destaque são, sem dúvida, as cenas de ação. As coreografias das lutas são extremamente bem executadas, com sequências eletrizantes que prendem a atenção do começo ao fim. Cada confronto transmite intensidade e adrenalina, sem parecer exagerado.
Além da ação, o dorama entrega personagens carismáticos e um protagonista que conquista pela mistura de frieza, inteligência e amor incondicional pela filha. A narrativa mantém um ótimo ritmo, sem episódios arrastados, fazendo com que a vontade seja maratonar tudo de uma vez.
Para quem gosta de suspense, espionagem e lutas bem coreografadas, Agente Kim: Reativado é uma escolha certeira. É aquele tipo de dorama que começa muito bem e termina mantendo a mesma qualidade, deixando a sensação de que cada episódio valeu a pena.
Uma produção que entrega ação de alto nível, emoção e entretenimento do início ao fim. Recomendo sem pensar duas vezes! 💗💗💗

MISTÉRIO E ROMANCE

Essa série é tão curta e tão boa. Esse é o problema dela, ser curta demais, todos os defeitos que eu consegui encontrar foram causados pelo tempo apertado, mas ainda sim fizeram um ótimo trabalho.


PONTOS POSITIVOS (o que eu gostei):

- Essa é uma história rica porque tem um pouco de tudo. Tem romance, tem suspense, tem tensão e tem um bom roteiro;
- A química entre os protagonistas é implacável. Os beijos, olhares e cenas sexuais foram todos muito bem feitos deixando tudo muito natural e hipnotizante;
- A construção da relação deles indo de desconfiança para flerte e depois amor foi bem feita;
- Todo episódio tinha algo acontecendo, logo, eu não fiquei entediada em nenhum momento.


PONTOS NEGATIVOS (o que eu não gostei):

- O áudio é muito limpo e muito presente, e isso seria uma coisa boa se não fosse pela sensação de que algo estava errado quando comparávamos com a imagem. A edição pecou um pouco nesse aspecto;
- Como eu disse anteriormente, toda a história é muito bem feita, mas as transições de uma cena para a outra não foram muito suaves e talvez isso tenha relação com o tempo apertado que o projeto tinha para desenvolver toda a trama. Esse é aquele tipo de série que precisa de momentos de tensão e atmosfera, mas a atmosfera não foi tão bem feita por não ter tempo para isso;
- E então chegamos no final que foi apressado. Muita coisa precisava ser resolvida e tinha apenas 1 episódio restante. Toda a sequência depois da luta final foi tão apressada que cortou o clima de imersão.


Então concluindo, a Coreia surpreendeu muito na ousadia desse projeto e ele foi muito bem sucedido. Gostei bastante.

Ah, e eu senti um clima de 2° temporada. Algumas coisas foram estranhas e não foram explicadas sendo deixadas para lá, logo, uma segunda temporada cairia bem.

Best Spy Action K-Drama in a while...

Moving, Tempest, Vagabond - the top spies K-Drama just got its newest contender.

If we're talking about spy movies/drama, it's common to have that one legendary person who frightens the entire underworld (John Wick & Kim Doo-shik), then there's those shadowy government individuals who'd do anything to catch them for peace.

Agent Kim exactly built upon that, but how is it successful, where's the fresh and hot story?

Well, when did the last time we had a middle-aged man fighting thugs and spies like cockroaches? And that man has 2 another close middle-aged friend who were just as good as him, who shares the same mud and blood in past lives? Now they're working together to rescue the main character's daughter.

Enter Kim ********, Park Jin Cheol, Seong Hansu.
Mere thugs? punching bags
Government agents? show mercy
Mercenaries? 1v1 fodder

Even for casual K-Drama watchers, the hype of retired spy taking revenge on his daughter is through the roof, the constant extremely high ratings shows that well.

Of course, there are pros and cons of the story, some favor the hero dad action and some favor the grounded realistic plot, all i can say is: this is a manhwa adaptation. I don't even know "Manager Kim" is an adaptation rather than a limited series. Watching as learning that it is one or not, it doesn't disappoint.

Knowing there are a lot more to come, I just can't wait to see the twists that will have us viewers on the edge, we haven't seen the trio really put up to the brink of death on strong enemies.

Agent Kim just got reactivated, so hyped for more seasons to come!!!

Really good if you can get past some plot holes

I've watched this a few times now as I waited for the next episode plus the songs are really nice. Their connection felt real and deeper than the usual romance plots. It's less about making out and being physical and more about substantial, deep rooted love. Highly recommend this drama, it's a good life romance with deeper themes and less fan service.

If you enjoyed Go Ahead you'll enjoy this

HOWEVER,
The ending felt rushed, a bit too quick to wrap up everyone's story. I'm surprised they didn't show them finally married or wearing rings after all they went through to be stable together.

They could have shown more of when he was abroad in the underground boxing ring considering the mention of going there to that country for a work trip or in conversation made him visibility tense. We know he was working with the police to make up for the fire incident but getting over the trama from being in country jin for 3 yrs should have been more prominent.

They don't explain why Tu Li stopped Cen Ye in the parking lot either. Why would she know him or need him? never answered.

Did he sell his mom's house? why'd he get rid of his car only to say they need another one? if they took a taxi the Hai City, when did his motorcycle get there?

They didn't show what she went through in college, although you see a bit of her emotions whenever she reads her old diary. They should have shown a bit more of her emotional struggle with him sending her away now that she was back or in conversation say how she became resolved to come back.

I will likely rewatch for the millionth time ❤️

what the hell was this?

the start off was strong. jeonghan's character was cold, disrespectful, horrible, & interesting enough. iljo's character, in the beginning, made sense to a degree - i presumed he was holding onto deep trauma and had no immediate family left. the first rain scene was incredible. however, the jump directly into the story without any real setup for the premise was a choice that i did not care for but it happened.

then it got more toxic and strange, in a bad way. the story is generic but could work just fine depending on the execution. unfortunately, the second half of it did not add up. jeonghan then proceeds to somehow fall in love with iljo? based off of what? the story direction and the acting were not THAT compelling so i do not understand what made the second main lead so obsessive. other than being a giant red football field, nothing can explain his actions to me.

in my previous review, i mentioned something i noticed that is erroneous on the part of these BL creatives. i have now observed another pattern, rushing these adaptations seems to be a standard. this seems to be true so much that often there are mistakes and a lack of seamlessness in aired scenes. for example, the jump from the coffee shop scene into one of the only good intimate scenes in the kitchen and at the dinner table with the fruit legitimately left me bewildered. it made no sense ! there was no sensible transition. the lead was monologuing internally and then the viewer just sees the next scene that is setup as though it were to be a dream. iljo just appearing out of nowhere when jeonghan suddenly came down with a fever made no sense. they both "broke up" three times but somehow were still together, in the end? what?

i could say more but i will conclude this with saying that this was another disappointment. i expected much more considering the first three episodes.

UM DOS MELHORES K DRAMAS DO ANO!!!!

Essa história transmite ao público, de forma genuína, que o amor paterno, em sua essência, é SEM DÚVIDAS, um dos sentimentos mais profundos que um ser humano pode experimentar. É um vínculo capaz de levar até mesmo o agente mais letal das Coreias a cometer atos impensáveis e colocando a própria vida em risco pelo bem de sua filha.
O Agente Kim foi moldado para ser uma "arma humana", foi ensinado a nunca se apegar a nada. Porém, o reencontro com sua filha desperta nele uma humanidade que parecia ter sido apagada, levando-o a tomar decisões antes inimagináveis apenas para vê-la novamente. E ao final, quando tudo finalmente se resolve, é como se ele voltasse a respirar de verdade. É fascinante perceber que até mesmo os seres humanos estão fadados aos instintos mais primitivos.
