The greatest Korean BL is an average straight drama

İ had a theory when i started watching BL specifically korean, the reason why most of them are not that great is they had a huge label on them.
"The Queer label" i like to call it...

They have to be an art house or a personal experience instead of just being an entertaining show, they lack normal stories and natural acting, also i at some point started believing that its a quick pass to fame for some newcomers, or just to fill up some gaps in their resume because most KBL chose the least known actors or some idols from not very famous bands to act in them.

And this one here broke all stereotypes, it's a story-based show instead of relying on fan service they actually invested in the story, which was quite average story come to think of it. A detective, a prosecutor, and a crime. They connect the dots, solve the whodunnit mystery, expose the bad guy and happily ever after, actors were actually good, looks like they actually had a proper chemistry test before getting the roles.

A very very mediocre drama, the evidence started showing while watching, the person you kinda suspect ends up being the bad guy, obviously, and the mystery is easily solved with less drama.
So why am i sitting here trying to understand why everyone are so amazed and impressed by it, because it's the first KBL to have the common sense to be an straight drama, just remove one of the leads and put a female and voilà, you cracked the code! Congratulations!!

Was it a good show? Yeah it's entertaining and enjoyable.
Am i impressed by it like everyone else? Not really, it's very average, i usually judge the show as a whole, and this was an average one, a well made average drama ~

Very well made drama!

I'm in my 3rd/4th rewatch and still amazed? lol

Drama Korea pertama yang gw nonton dan narik gw masuk ke dunia per-drakor-an.
Dong Yi tuh jadi karakter yang sangat inspriatif dalam drama ini. Di era tontonan di mana dikotomi fiksi dan realisme makin kuat polarisasinya, drama dengan karakter adaptasi yang bijak itu ngangenin.

Di darama ini, mungkin karena karakterisasinya jelas (baik-jahat), nilai-nilai fundamental yang dijadiin pelajarannya tersampaikan dengan baik. Transisi kehidupan MC dari budak ke selir kerajaan dijelaskan dengan komperhensif. Itu yang membuat dramanya engaging dan tidak membosankan karena tiap elemen seperti karakter pendukung maupun peristiwa dimanfaatkan dengan baik untuk menggerakkan cerita. Gw yang nonton ga harus nunggu Dong Yi ada dalam screen buat merhatiin ceritanya. Di banyak adegan, reaksi jenaka dari karakter-karakter kecil sangat mewakili reaksi penonton. Bingung, skeptis, senang, sedih, marah, jengkel.. Drama ini ngasih space buat penonton buat ikut larut dalam cerita bersama mereka! Ceritanya jadi hidup! Sesuatu yang sangat langka jika dibandingkan dengan drama-drama sekarang.

Mercy for Some

Agent Kim Reactivated is at its best when it leans into comedy, found‑family chaos, and the emotional weight of Kim’s past. So Ji Sub delivers a pitch‑perfect performance as a mild‑mannered office worker hiding lethal skills, and the show shines whenever it lets him be dry, exasperated, and quietly dangerous. The emotional flashbacks to Kim’s childhood add depth, and the father‑daughter storyline provides a strong anchor even when the plot gets messy. That said, the North Korea arc drags, the missed connections feel unnecessarily outlandish, and Episode 9 veers into nonsensical territory just to force a showdown.

The series delivers top‑tier comedy and action, especially in Episodes 3, 7, and 8, where Jin Cheol steals entire scenes with his dramatic flair and chaotic energy. The show’s humor — from fridge‑door destruction to blacksmith jokes mid‑fight — is consistently on point. The finale wraps up a bit too neatly, with certain characters escaping the consequences they deserved. Still, the journey is entertaining, full of heart, and driven by memorable performances.

What I liked the most though, is the old‑man bromance between So Ji Sub , Yoon Kyung Ho, and Choi Dae Hoon — their bickering, teamwork, and sheer ridiculousness elevate every episode. And newcomer Seo Su Min is genuinely excellent as Minji.

Engaing Story but filled with loopholes and absurdity

The storyline of a husband going to extreme lengths to save his wife is good on paper but unfortunately putting it in action is where they messed up. This is one of those dramas where common sense is missing from the world, the same old generic leads with misunderstandings, with you might even end up hating FL in the initial episodes, the cops are generic for most of the drama and it does gets frustrating to watch just how idiotic and brainless they are shown. Take away ML going scorched earth against all odds to find his wife, there isn't much left in the drama to make it engaging.

The actors have done a great job with roles both the good and the bad ones. The actor playing the role of psycho for me isn't exactly hitting the mark, he looks crazy just not that terrifying that would give me chills.

It is a one time watch and if you ignore all the stupidity you may find it decent.

No bad words to say!

i haven't been watching thai bls for long. but me and thee was one of the first ones I watch while it was still airing. i usually only like angsty shows, sad stuff, absolutely NOTHING happy. but me and thee and peach and me changed everything for me. i barely watch romcoms but pondphuwin as theepeach were just the best. i might be biased (considering all the 10 stars I've given) but this is genuinely my comfort show, i could rewatch this a million times and still laugh as much as I did the first time.

an award for thee for being the greenest flag ever. and also peach, i don't see anyone giving peach credit, but he's quite literally the ideal green flag (who could realistically exist because we all know thee only exists fictionally). i don't think most people understand how much peach loves and sacrifices for his loved ones. they're both the GREENEST flags together and so hopelessly in love.

rome and mok oh my god, while they had their own rollercoaster events, they're the CUTEST. i love how rome is so fierce and would kill ruthlessly but when it comes to mok, he's just a golden retriever puppy. and mok, mok loves silently, but he loves hard. his actions speak louder than words <3

tawan and aran. while they had a pretty rocky start, they made it. tawan changed for the better and aran made sure he was right beside him. though I was sceptical during me and thee because tawan didn't have any character development, in peach and me, i can say he's turning into a puppy for his boyfriend too hahahhaha

mira and plub. MY CUTIES! they didn't have much screentime (i mean understandably so, 4 eps isn't quite enough to establish a relationship) but i still loved them. i don't really watch gls (though I want to, i have so many in my watchlist. im just scared of seeing so many beautiful women. the gay panic is real) but I'm definitely gonna binge watch every series that has emibonnie. their chemistry is undeniable.

also shoutout to mork and marn hahahaha. theepeach having kids just fits so right and they're the CUTEST family ever.


all and all, not one bad episode, not one bad soundtrack, not one shitty storyline. just perfection. this made one of my loneliest years so much more brighter! i haven't laughed this much in YEARS.

though it seems far fetched, i hope we'll get "calm down, khun rome" maybe MAYBE. hahahahaha.

PERFECT SLOW-BURN SUMMER DRAMA

I enjoyed each and every episode. The storyline, the chemistry, the plot twists and the friendships, I loved that. All those heavy and soft feelings, perfect mix of love and sadness, misunderstandings and reunions, all in one series.

How ML and FL stick to each other in both happy and sad times, just their presence radiated warmth. Two youngsters falling in love and growing deeper understanding about life and themselves along the way, felt refreshing. The part where FL's grandmother died and how ML helped her to see the colors of life again, was powerful and soft. They truly were each other's strength and weakness.

The ugly business politics and industry tactics, broken families and treacherous relationships, set the base of their emerging love story. None of the characters were perfect, they made mistakes and owed up to them, and were ready to start again.

Wishing a never-ending summer, to the couple who showed us that love never ends and it has always been about choosing each other everyday, who taught us the true definition of loving each other deeply. How to give wings to your dreams, look after your family and goals, work academic balance along with the person you like, making tough choices and a journey that started from hidden feelings and deception, but ended in truest form of love and friendships!

Primeiro dorama que eu assisti 90% em 2x

Comecei a assistir esse dorama porque achei a sinopse interessante e divertida. Eu já tinha visto algumas pessoas no twt falando mal dele, dizendo que o começo tinha um desenvolvimento muito bom, mas que no final ficava ruim. Mesmo assim, quis pagar pra ver se as pessoas estavam exagerando ou não... E spoiler: todo mundo tinha razão.

Do episódio 1 ao 6 tava maravilhoso de acompanhar. Tanto que eu madruguei assistindo até o episódio 6 de tão bom. Mas depois decaiu.

Não sei se é a personagem ou a atriz (nunca tinha visto nenhum trabalho dela antes desse), mas achei ela com uma energia de pressão baixa, sempre com cara de sonsa (e personalidade também). A prota passou do episódio 6 até o 11 fazendo um cu doce insuportável de assistir, sem decidir se ficava com o cunhado ou com o chefe.

E pra piorar a situação, foram uns quatro episódios focando só nela com o chefe. Parecia que ele era o par romântico principal. Simplesmente insuportável. Todas as cenas dos dois eu assistia em 2x, porque já não bastava a prota com essa cara de pressão baixa, ainda tinha esse chefe dela com o carisma de uma porta.

Só no episódio 11 começaram a focar de novo nela com o taehyung, faltando apenas 1 EP pra acabar INACREDITÁVEL e quando eu finalmente comecei a gostar da prota de novo, ela se mostrou uma tremenda de uma burra, e eu voltei a odiar ela.

Eu só assisti isso até o fim por três motivos: o primeiro é que eu queria poder falar mal com propriedade, o segundo foi por causa do taehyung, que pelo menos tinha carisma, e o terceiro foi por causa do bebê. Os dois carregaram esse dorama nas costas.

Great Main Character!

Beberapa detik pertama, cuma nyaksiin gesture dan tone suara Maomao ngomong ke Ayah angkatnya gw udah tahu klo gw bakal suka ni karakter lol

Cunning, unbothered, yet lovable arghkkk <3
Tapi gw punya mixed feeling buat si ML soalnya hm dia kek pelengkap cerita yang berpusat di karakter Maomao doang. Karakter yang didesign almost perfect but still have some flaws yang by condition attracted to the FL. Tbh, I dont really get the romance between them but whatever lah ya asal Maomao happy hehe

Also, unik sih nonton anime yang latar ceritanya di kerajaan China kuno, soalnya gw juga suka nonton historical cdrama. Di sini digambarin situasi di mana kelas sosial dan monopoli informasi jadi elemen utama yang menggerakkan cerita. Dinamika antar karakter yang berstatus sosial sangat tinggi dengan yang lainnya. Bapaknya si Raja yang berkuasa dalam pengaruh ibunya yang kuat, tapi karena status sosialnya yang tinggi kekurangannya ditutupi dengan mengorbankan banyak orang. So gross and the writer I think did very well menggambarkan itu. Maomao yang pinter tapi gesture tubuh dan sikap pas dalam istana digambarkan konsisten.. dia tahu batasan apa yang harus dia lakukan dan hindari buat survive dalam lingkungan dengan tatanan sosial seperti itu. Meski demikian, karakternya keren banget karena dia lahir dari ibu yang berprofesi sebagai gisaeng? saat belum menikah dengan ayahnya yang memiliki status sosial tinggi. Dia tumbuh di daerah yang tidak terjangkau hukum, tapi dibesarkan oleh pamannya yang genius, pernah memiliki privilege sekolah ke luar negeri dan belajar ilmu medis Barat. Kombinasi ini melahirkan karekter seperti Maomao!

Keren banget jir pokoknya!

A Must-Watch Action Thriller!

This is honestly such an exciting drama! The plot is really interesting, and I love the uncle-and-niece relationship between the leads. It keeps you on the edge of your seat because you’re always wondering what’s going to happen next.

The fight scenes are also really well done, and the action feels intense and thrilling. The actress who played Jian did an amazing job—it’s my first time watching her, and I’m really impressed. Lee Dong Wook is, as always, excellent in his role.

I really hope none of the team members die—Minye, Brother, Pasin, Jinman, and Jian. I want to see all of them again in Season 2. This is such a great show, and I honestly wish it had more episodes because it feels too short!

Pro Bono is easily one of the most engaging legal dramas to watch. It balances serious societal issues with clever humor, making every episode enjoyable from start to finish.

The story follows a ragtag team of lawyers taking on unusual and challenging pro bono cases for ordinary people who cannot afford expensive legal representation. Rather than focusing solely on dry legal jargon, the series focuses heavily on human emotions, moral dilemmas, and the fight for justice against unfair systems.

Jung Kyung-ho gives a phenomenal performance as the lead. His expressions, comedic timing, and emotional range bring the character to life and carry the show effortlessly. The dynamic among the pro bono team members grows on you, and watching them learn to trust and rely on each other makes the journey very satisfying.

The individual cases handle meaningful topics—such as animal rights, workplace fairness, and social equality—with a lot of heart. While some case resolutions feel a bit dramatized, the uplifting tone and strong character growth make up for it.

If you are looking for a legal series that is thought-provoking, hilarious, and deeply moving, Pro Bono is definitely worth your time. Highly recommended!

Amazing

This show is absolutely devastating but so so well done. The FL is coerced into a relationship with the sickly and current emperor. Her family's lives are threatened while she is waiting for her beloved who also is the current emperors brother. The Queen mother orchestrated the marriage because the ML had too much military power and she knew if she held the FL ""hostage"" he would always protect the capital and current emperor, his brother. However, jealous is a terrible thing and the emperor kills the ML. A situation the ML knew was coming but came back to the capital anyway because his beloved is there. It brings up the question: who protects our loved ones while we go out and make the ultimate sacrifice? Who is tucking the police officers child into bed while he patrols the streets to ensure our safety?

La corruption pour les nuls

Faire un bon polar n'est pas donné à tout le monde, et ce n'est certainement pas le casting qui en fait l'intérêt. Réunir Takahashi Issey et Saitoh Takumi ne présage donc pas forcément du meilleur. Tous deux sont capables du pire selon leurs rôles et le mystery drama. Souvent teinté de fantastique, ils héritent également de personnages aux pouvoirs improbables ou aux personnalités artificiellement mystérieuses, frôlant parfois le ridicule. La réalisation de leurs séries est elle aussi très inégale, au point de donner parfois l'impression qu'ils signent certains projets uniquement pour remplir la gamelle, en livrant le strict minimum dans leur interprétation.

Je n'attendais donc absolument rien de Hanzaisha: Criminal, surtout avec un titre aussi générique. Pourtant, la série a totalement balayé mes préjugés.

Soyons clairs, c'est le meilleur thriller de l'été. Mais attention, il est sans concession. Ici, pas de romance, pas de fantastique, seulement un véritable polar comme on n'en fait presque plus. Adapté du célèbre roman d'Ai Ota, il mêle enquête policière, politique et grandes entreprises, dans un univers où la corruption gangrène tous les échelons. Sa narration, construite sur plusieurs lignes temporelles, lui a longtemps valu la réputation d'être quasiment impossible à adapter à l'écran. Le format en série était donc la meilleure solution, et le résultat est une réussite.

Les personnages, tout en retenue, paraissent profondément humains. Les blessures subies lors d'une bagarre ne disparaissent pas d'un épisode à l'autre, les hématomes restent visibles et les personnages continuent d'en souffrir plusieurs épisodes plus tard. Ces petits détails renforcent considérablement le réalisme. Les scènes du quotidien, comme les repas ou les moments de fatigue, participent également à cette impression de vérité et c'est tout juste si on ne les voie pas faire caca. On se rapproche tellement du réel que certaines séquences, notamment les faux reportages de l'épisode 2 criants de vérité, glacent le sang sans jamais montrer la moindre image des victimes. La musique reste discrète, voir minimaliste, mais tellement stressante. La série parvient ainsi à nous faire croire entièrement à son histoire, malgré quelques coïncidences parfois un peu trop téléphonées. Rappelant, pour nous faire de temps en temps respirer, qu'on est en face d'une fiction.

Chaque épisode met également en avant de nouveaux personnages, parfois présents uniquement le temps d'un seul épisode, mais suffisamment développés pour devenir crédibles, attachants ou profondément détestables. L'épisode 2, par exemple, délaisse presque totalement les protagonistes principaux, qui ne réapparaissent que très discrètement dans le troisième épisode, lui même consacré à d'autres personnages qui auraient put être les héros de la série. Ce choix narratif rend pourtant l'enquête encore plus passionnante, tant il enrichit progressivement l'univers et les enjeux.

Il est finalement dommage que tous les épisodes aient été mis en ligne simultanément, même si Prime a tout de même fait l'effort de garder les deux derniers pour une semaine après, histoire de buzzer un peu. Une diffusion hebdomadaire aurait sans doute favorisé les théories et les discussions tout au long de l'été, plutôt que d'encourager le binge-watching, pratique trop développée dans notre société de consommation, capitaliste et corrompue par l'argent roi.

Offers a different dynamic

The best thing about this show is that by adding a mystery element, they create a different dynamic, as well as significant added suspense for both the participants and for viewers, particularly during the build up to when all is revealed in the final episode. But this also means that the interactions among the participants are clearly highly controlled and manipulated to maintain that suspense to an even greater extent than normal. When added to the shorter 8-day duration of the filming, we simply don't get the same complexity and depth of the relationships that develop among the participants on some of the other dating shows.

Um supresa chinesa desconfortável, mas que surpreende muito!

A China conseguiu um feito surpreendente: produzir um BL que quebrou muitos padrões, expectativas e ideias que tínhamos sobre as obras do gênero no país. Em um mercado que, por conta das restrições impostas às produções com temática LGBTQIAPN+, costuma recorrer aos chamados bromances ou adaptar suas histórias para driblar a censura, ver uma série tão ousada em sua proposta já foi, por si só, algo inesperado. Mas a maior surpresa de "Double Helix" não está apenas na coragem de existir. Ela está na forma como a série escolhe contar sua história.

Durante minhas postagens sobre os episódios, vi muitos comentários de pessoas dizendo que "Double Helix" deixou a desejar e que sequer conseguiram chegar ao final por causa da temática proposta pelo enredo. E, sinceramente, eu compreendo essas opiniões. A série definitivamente não é um BL convencional. Ela exige paciência, atenção e disposição para mergulhar em uma narrativa muito mais psicológica e reflexiva do que romântica. É justamente essa escolha que pode afastar parte do público, ao mesmo tempo em que torna a experiência tão singular para quem embarca na proposta da obra.

Isso, no entanto, não significa que "Double Helix" esteja livre de problemas. A série possui algumas questões que não podem ser ignoradas. Em diversos momentos, a narrativa acaba romantizando situações de abuso, violência e transtornos psiquiátricos, tratando esses elementos como parte da construção do romance. Além disso, a obra reproduz uma visão bastante heteronormativa das relações homoafetivas, recorrendo a dinâmicas de dominação e submissão, traços de misoginia e fetichização e até mesmo a uma representação das relações sexuais baseada em papéis tradicionalmente associados a casais heterossexuais. Para mim, essas escolhas acabam limitando a forma como esses personagens e suas vivências são retratadas.

Apesar dessas ressalvas, "Double Helix" tinha uma arma secreta que foi a grande responsável por me fazer seguir até o último episódio: Ayden Sng no papel do complexo e atormentado Lu Feng. Confesso que foi impossível não criar empatia por ele, mesmo diante de todas as suas atitudes questionáveis. Parece que o papel foi escrito sob medida para Ayden, que entrega uma atuação visceral, sincera e extremamente convincente. Ele consegue transmitir, ao mesmo tempo, a dor, os traumas, os conflitos e a obsessão de Lu Feng, transformando um personagem que facilmente poderia se tornar apenas mais um clichê em alguém fascinante de acompanhar.

Mesmo partindo de uma premissa conhecida, a interpretação de Ayden dá uma profundidade rara ao protagonista e faz com que seja impossível permanecer indiferente à sua jornada. São poucos os atores que conseguem convencer a gente a torcer por um personagem que, racionalmente, sabemos estar errado. Ayden faz exatamente isso. E sem desmerecer o trabalho de Elio como Xiao Chen, a verdade é que eu mal conseguia tirar os olhos de Lu Feng. Meu ranço por Xiao Chen certamente não ajudou, mas Ayden simplesmente domina a cena sempre que aparece. Seu magnetismo é tão grande que, para mim, ele se tornou a principal razão para continuar acompanhando a série.

Agora vamos ser sinceros: a química entre Lu Feng e Xiao Chen era simplesmente absurda. Era aquele tipo de conexão que ultrapassa a tela e faz a gente entender exatamente por que esses dois personagens se atraem tanto. Nem mesmo as limitações da censura chinesa pareciam capazes de apagar a intensidade que os dois entregavam em cena.
As cenas de intimidade foram muito bem construídas e conseguiram transmitir uma carga emocional enorme, algo ainda mais impressionante considerando as limitações que produções chinesas desse gênero costumam enfrentar. Os beijos, principalmente, estavam saborosíssimos para um BL chinês, carregando uma entrega rara e fazendo com que cada momento entre eles tivesse peso dentro da narrativa.

Mais uma vez, a atuação de Ayden se mostrou o grande destaque. Como Lu Feng, ele conseguia transmitir através de cada olhar, gesto e demonstração de carinho toda a obsessão, o amor e a necessidade que o personagem sentia por Xiao Chen. Mesmo quando suas atitudes eram questionáveis, a entrega do ator fazia com que fosse impossível ignorar a força daquele sentimento. Ayden simplesmente entregava beijos carregados de emoção, daqueles que faziam a gente esquecer por alguns segundos todos os problemas da história. Infelizmente, essa mesma força e cuidado na construção do casal principal não se repetiram em todos os relacionamentos apresentados pela série.

Confesso que o casal secundário não funcionou para mim em nenhum momento. Qin Lang e Yi Chen simplesmente passaram pela história sem me causar qualquer interesse e, sinceramente, acho que poderiam facilmente não existir. Em nenhum momento senti que eles acrescentavam algo relevante à trama. O relacionamento entre os dois é extremamente superficial, sem nuances emocionais e sem qualquer desenvolvimento que me fizesse criar conexão ou torcer por eles.
Outro aspecto que me conquistou foi a parte técnica da produção. A fotografia, a iluminação, o figurino e a direção de arte trabalham em perfeita sintonia para vender a história que a série quer contar. Nada parece estar ali apenas para deixar as cenas bonitas. Em diversos momentos, a decoração dos cenários, os objetos espalhados pelo ambiente e a composição visual funcionam como mensagens subliminares e analogias que refletem o estado emocional dos personagens ou antecipam sentimentos e conflitos.

É aquele tipo de série em que vale a pena observar o que está ao fundo da cena, porque muitas vezes o cenário está dizendo exatamente aquilo que os personagens não conseguem expressar em palavras. Tive a sensação de que a série também contava sua história através das imagens, recompensando quem prestava atenção aos pequenos detalhes. Tudo isso fica ainda mais evidente em Lu Feng, já que a iluminação, o figurino e os enquadramentos parecem conversar diretamente com sua personalidade, seus traumas e seus conflitos internos. Somados à atuação impressionante de Ayden, esses elementos transformam cada aparição do personagem em algo praticamente impossível de ignorar.

Outro ponto que merece destaque são as OSTs da série. A trilha sonora de "Double Helix" não funciona apenas como um complemento para as cenas, ela participa ativamente da construção emocional da história. As músicas conseguem intensificar sentimentos como dor, obsessão, saudade, tristeza e amor, fazendo com que alguns momentos ganhem ainda mais impacto.
Confesso que em vários momentos senti que a escolha das músicas conversava perfeitamente com aquilo que os personagens estavam vivendo. A melodia, a interpretação vocal e a atmosfera criada pela trilha ajudavam a transmitir emoções que muitas vezes não eram ditas em palavras. É aquele tipo de OST que, quando você escuta depois de terminar a série, imediatamente te transporta de volta para determinadas cenas e sentimentos. "Double Helix" conseguiu aquele feito raro de transformar suas músicas em parte da memória da experiência, e não apenas em uma trilha que acompanha a história.

Finalizando, "Double Helix" foi uma experiência surpreendente e avassaladora. Mesmo com todo o desconforto que o enredo me causou em diversos momentos, a série conseguiu quebrar muitos padrões dos BLs chineses ao abordar afeto, intimidade, sexualidade e saúde mental de uma forma que poucas produções do país tiveram coragem de explorar.
Minha nota será um 08, principalmente pela atuação extraordinária de Ayden Sng como Lu Feng. Ele transformou um personagem extremamente complexo e problemático em alguém impossível de esquecer. Lu Feng acabou se tornando um daqueles personagens que permanecem na memória mesmo depois do fim da história, e vou guardá-lo com todo o carinho e amor que um personagem red flag poderia receber de mim. (Vegas, te amo ❤)

Nem todo personagem precisa ser um exemplo de virtude para ser inesquecível. Às vezes, são justamente os mais quebrados que deixam as maiores marcas. Mas não posso ignorar todos os outros elementos que fizeram essa série ser tão marcante para mim: a química absurda do casal principal, a fotografia impecável, as OSTs envolventes e a coragem da produção em entregar algo tão diferente e ousado dentro do cenário dos BLs chineses.
