AI Action

Hm, a strange film. It lasts only an hour and nothing gets resolved, so this is actually the first episode of a possible series. What works in the film’s favor are the well-known actors, of whom there are many, but they didn’t really put in much effort here. The first half of the film is just dialogue between the characters, while the second half consists of AI-generated action scenes that look interesting in individual frames but don’t work in a cinematic format. It’s clear that AI has become part of the film industry, and if used in individual shots it can replace CGI and similar needs for enhancing a scene, but it still can’t look as good as a real film. Therefore the action and fantasy shown here come across as a bit ridiculous and, above all, unconvincing. I have seen so much better use of AI on twitter. Still, as they say, it’s worth a try.

This is an attempt at implementing AI in a film. It didn’t really impress me, and the story isn’t well explained either. Nevertheless, I’m curious how it continues, so if there’s a sequel I’ll look for it.

this is an unconventional friendship story & i think the "gay romance" tag is misleading (& why people's panties got in a bunch, calling this "queerbaiting"), there was/is no gay romance to be had - maybe a bit of gay curiosity & if u think of the ending, there is a sec u can interpret as a an open ending, with the promise of a romance developing between the mains.
personally given everything - think platonic, as most of this "BL" was, even the bully's motives didn't stem from attraction IMO he genuinely liked Hong Il Tak & treated him like one would do a younger sibling, that they find so cute they wanna squish & bug... the roughhousing given who he was, wasn't mean spirited in his mind/heart/eyes... of course said sibling, doesn't enjoy this treatment & voices their annoyance sooner or later.
Hong Il Tak didn't, cause he genuinely believed he was being bullied cause he was weak & hated, so like any victim he kept quite, cause saying anything could make the situation worse.

Lee Hyeon Wu might have been bi-curious or he liked cute things so much so that gender didn't matter - he fought it long enough, but then just gave in... even though that took on a bullying nature later on... so we don't really know enough about what was going on in his head. but by the end both leads bonded cause of the beat-down.

also i don't think Hong Il Tak was made out to be "as girly as possible", that is such a strawman description. he wasn't effeminate or camp, he was a normal teen that was small of stature & build - the fact his beauty is softer & more boyish then manly, doesn't make him girly - like WTF. & other then one scene, where he thought about some femme fatale from the Joseon era & how she bewitched armies of men - there was no flirting done from my POV. his approaching Lee Hyeon Wu was genuinely how one would approach another in curiosity & trepidation, if u see them as stronger then u & want to befriend them.
there was not an ounce of eyelid batting on Hong Il Tak's part, the fact that there were times from Lee Hyeon Wu's POV it looked like that, it's cause he was charmed by him even before they talked. that doesn't make this "queerbaiting" like plz.

this was a sweet, fun & funny youth, friendship drama. it's not a romance or a BL & i enjoyed it all the same, cause it was sweet & wholesome - pity the bully didn't become Hong Il Tak's friend too, but those wires that were crossed, got disseminated the sec he went to the 3rd yr & got him to beat down Lee Hyeon Wu. so other then that part (were i kinda felt sorry for the bully cause he wasn't a bad guy) i really enjoyed this & i for sure will rewatch this when i want something light & fun to binge watch.

cheesy character development but good

I will start thios review by saying that i just found out that this is an adaptation of a manga after having finished the entire film. I found it while browsing bl films and went in blind. I will say this that i will def be going in and reading that manga now that is how i feel about this one. I t does get a bit cheesy at points, but cheesy can also be good. The cheesiness is not the bad kind you know what that bad type is where you cringe this is more heartfelt and honest; and since that this film mainly focuses on an adult relationship, with all that implies. All the ups and downs, the parallels between Togawa who is very open about his feelings and Shima who isnt really that open yet. In essences we watch two people grow closer as they face their deepest insecurities. There could def be some areas that could be dealt with more but for what is it I enjoyed it for the horu and a half it runs.

100% WORTH IT!!! PEAK FATHER + DAUGHTER "US AGAINST THE WORLD"

I literally have almost no qualms about this drama, it was everything. I love the trope where somebody's child is in trouble and their parent who had a secret life has to save them. But in an episode early on when he (Agent Kim) is searching for Ming Ji he stumbles upon a house a bunch of thugs are in where they were going to kill this old man and his daughter. She is then taken into a room that looks like a certain plant grows and put onto a table in front of some butcher looking dude. Were they organ trafficking? Probably but we don't get to see much of what comes with that because he is then caught by the police. I was also thinking what I would do if i were in Ming Ji's position and saying "No stay in the freezer!" or "No don't get into the first car you see at midnight after almost being murdered and dragged around the city for days!" Randomly she is shown in Cambodia? or Mongolia? Either way she's just there in a very fancy looking hotel reading comments or messages from old classmates online and she starts to panic. I hope she never lets any kind of bullying or mockery get to her because she has actually survived hell. So once everything is resolved and they move and change identities I feel like she should have at least maybe cut her hair or alter her appearance a bit. I would NOT be able to relax even though I'm supposed to be safe now I would just be paranoid 24/7. I only found out this was a webtoon at one of the credits shown at an episode at some point, I might check that out. BUT HOLD ON....who was that dude Kim called to destroy that guys construction company? Like it was kind of out of nowhere and I feel like he could've used that card a bit earlier but also this new job..... IS HE STILL DOING SKETCHY WORK??? It's just some big dude at a desk who challenges him to a fight, we don't get a name or even see his face. BUT OMG ALSO.... THE GOON WITH THE GRILLS COMING AND STABBING HIM ONCE HE LEFT THE HOSPITAL WAS PEAK "Here's Johnny" vibes. There's somethings that go unanswered but that's no problem with me, I just love that we got a happy ending in a drama. FINALLY, I was so stressed watching because I had no idea how they would get out of the situations they were in this ending was defiantly earned.

bittersweet memories

It tells the story of a girl who has developed anterograde amnesia following an accident whose memory now resets every day to before the event. She meets a boy, with a terminal heart condition (unbeknownst to her) and falls in love.
The film is a warm and tender watch, one that leaves us rather emotionally exhausted by the terrible hand that these two characters have been dealt. The love story stays with you long after the runtime, and its portrayals of love and loss are quite impactful due to the nature of the situations that unfold. It’s a tender and relatable affair that leaves viewers to delve into the bottom of difficult emotions, and one can’t do so without shedding a tear or two.
Choo Young-woo and Shin Si-ah do a commendable job bringing their characters to life. You begin rooting for them early in the film. Their chemistry is the perfect demonstration of the slightly awkward, altogether irresistible teenage love

No chemistry whatsoever but easy and lighthearted

This is a light hearted watch, very easy to get through and doesn't take any effort to finish whatsoever. I didn't quite like how i there wasn't any or at least i didn't feel any chemistry from the two of them in any of the episodes. They look like they're so uncomfortable with each other actually. I have seen more chemistry in other shows that i would recommend more than this one. That one drinking scene as well or the dead fish kiss, if you want chemistry this is not the show for you unless you just want to watch something that can be finished within 2 hours. even. But it does help that theres some comedic elements to the show.

Very creative but also very weak

Weak. Probably the worse zombie movie I've ever watched. Korean movies have this thing where they put all their stats into production and not story. It's espeicially obvious in thrillers and horror. Hyeon Seok rampage for his sister came off way too strong and it would have worked if he was the only main character and the main focus. Like some john wick shi. That felt more like it was his girl bruh.

They got rid of characters why too easily also, which I didnt expect for a TWO hour movie. They had 2 hours so why rush. There was no reason to emotionlessly dump everyone in the first half. They could have just wrote less characters. Yeong Cheol was written too flat. Which was definitely a choice. His death felt so anticlimactic. I mean the guy literally just drops on the floor. Also I knew that clique ending was coming.

I applaud them for being creative though.

Love Of Boredom

Perhaps If they had added just some element of creativity to this drama, it might have been at least for me a better or even notable series. But instead, it just is yet another in a long line of troupe-filled, cliché driven stories that offered nothing different. To be sure, there were moments that were good and even enticing, but overall, this story is so predictable. And honestly, the protagonists were as interesting as watching paint dry. Truthfully, watching paint dry would have been more interesting because one never knows if a paint bubble will form and you will have to smooth it out. That would at least grab your attention. These two were the least dynamic individuals in this series in all honestly. I am NOT talking about any bad acting. That is not the case. Both these actors are just so one-dimensional, but they were played that way, which made them boring and thus projected uninteresting characters. That is too unfortunate as both individuals had unique qualities and could have been more idealized with more impressing personalities from the very beginning; but did not.

Overdo drama Is Wonderful ??

Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan's acting is solid. In my view, they delivered "top-tier" performances under very constrained conditions—especially Zhang Linghe, whose nuanced handling of complex emotions has drawn widespread praise. The drama tackles serious social issues like human trafficking and domestic violence, packing in one "high-energy" moment after another, with a fast pace that never drags.

In that sense, the extreme close-ups in Overdo act like a "two-sided mirror": they validate the two leads' hardcore acting chops (swap in two less skilled actors and it would be an absolute disaster).

Rather than saying the director was trying to "recreate" an old-school feel, it feels more like he instinctively chose the most primitive, "crudest" method to foreground the actors' performances in this age of info-overload short dramas. This "atavistic" filming style inadvertently stirs our nostalgia for an era when productions were crafted with slow, meticulous care.

Today's dramas really can't replicate the past—because back then, it was about truly seeing, hearing, and feeling; lighting served the acting. Now, filters serve the looks, and camera work serves viral clip moments. Overdo is like a "tarnished bronze mirror"—what it reflects isn't the Republic of China era, but our collective wistfulness for the golden age of classic television dramas.

Most amazing eye candy!

I don't usually watch Xianxia. Most that I tried to watch in the past I ended up dropping for various reasons but the cringey factor is high up there in the list. I decided to give this a try and unexpectedly ended up enjoying the whole 40 episodes immensely, for two compelling reasons.

1. Deng Wei. OMG. What an eye candy. Probably 90% why I carry on watching the rest of the drama. He has the most amazing facial features. I never thought a perfect manga-like character exist in real life but I am proven wrong. Deng Wei embodies a Xianxia male lead like he owns it. Chiselled jaw, high nose and the most expressive eyes. There is angle where he doesn't look good. The production obviously adore him because he has the most amazing costume.

2. The story. I am super impressed how well paced this story is. I have to recheck that this is indeed a 40-episodes drama. The story went profoundly deep within the first 10 episodes alone which really surprises me. Most Xianxia I have seen often has cutesy fillers which often detracts from the story. Despite having to skip some scenes I still think the story is well thought out

*Xing Hao Huan Shi Ni* is one of those Chinese short dramas that is enjoyable enough to finish, even if it doesn't leave a lasting impression. The biggest strength of the series is definitely the romance. The chemistry between the leads keeps the story moving, and there are several sweet moments that make it easy to root for the couple.

As with many short-form dramas, the pacing can feel rushed at times. Some scenes would have benefited from more development, and a few emotional moments don't have enough time to fully land. While the story isn't particularly groundbreaking, it stays entertaining enough to hold your attention.

The acting is solid, and the romantic interactions are what make the drama worth watching. If you're looking for a quick romance with a happy escape from reality, this drama delivers that. However, if you want a story with deeper character development, stronger plot twists, or unforgettable emotional impact, you may find it a bit average.

Happiness is something anyone can have.

It's really difficult to put into words just how much this film means to me as a queer person. The way the story was told and how accurately it showed how internalized homophobia can make a person believe certain things about themselves was seriously just outstanding.

Other than the complicated mess inside my head when it comes to that, I just want to talk about in general how beautifully written this film was.

I really found myself enjoying how each character's perspective was showed, and how the story was told to make you think things about characters and the situation before slowly discovering the truth. The pacing was amazing, the scenery and acting was on-point and everything really stuck with me.

I cannot hear trumpets playing without thinking of that one scene, and it breaks me apart all over again.

Guys, seriously, if you're considering watching this movie, PLEASE do! It has impacted me in so many ways, and it was truely just a 10/10 watch.

Some dramas entertain you. Some make you laugh or cry. Very few stay with you long after the final episode ends. Twenty-Five Twenty-One belongs to that rare category.

This isn't just a coming-of-age drama or a romance. It's a story about dreams, youth, passion, failure, friendship, love, and the bittersweet reality of growing up. It captures the feeling of chasing something with your whole heart, even when the outcome is uncertain. Every character feels human, with their own strengths, flaws, fears, and aspirations, which makes their journey feel incredibly authentic.

The writing is exceptional. Every conversation feels meaningful, every relationship develops naturally, and every emotional moment is earned rather than forced. The pacing allows you to truly live alongside the characters instead of simply watching them. The cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack is unforgettable, and the performances are nothing short of phenomenal.
Kim Tae-ri delivers one of the finest performances I have ever seen in any drama. Her portrayal is so sincere, energetic, vulnerable, and inspiring that I often forgot I was watching an actress. She didn't just play a character, she made that character feel completely alive. The entire cast deserves praise, but she is the heart and soul of this story.

What makes this drama truly special is the impact it leaves behind. It gave me quotes that I'll remember, life lessons that made me reflect on myself, and a character I genuinely look up to. It reminded me that dreams are worth chasing, failure is part of growth, and persistence matters far more than temporary success.
There are very few stories that change the way I think. This is one of them.
I've watched over a hundred K-dramas, yet this is the only one I've given a 10/10. Not because it's flawless, but because of what it made me feel, what it taught me, and the permanent mark it left on my heart.

Some stories fade with time.

CAST FANTASTICO!

Che dire se non che mi è piaciuto tutto di questa serie...solo un paio di momenti in cui avrei preferito ci fosse un po' più di velocità nella storia ma per il resto ho scoperto un cast veramente in gamba!
Averlo visto doppiato in italiano mi ha aiutato a apprezzare la recitazione meglio che quando vedo i film con i sottotitoli ma l'avrei visto comunque solo perchè il protagonista era So Ji Sub!!

Lui è una garanzia, questo lo sapevo già dopo aver visto "Mercy for none" ma ho scoperto nel cast con piacere Yoon Kyung Ho che mi ha fatto ridere e sorridere tantissimo!

Yoon Kyung Ho ha vinto recentemente un meritatissimo premio come supporting cast per la serie "The Legend of Kitchen Soldier" e io l'ho scoperto proprio guardando anche questo Drama...complimenti davvero!

Spero che la seconda stagione venga confermata!! non vedo l'ora!
