OK story, but the pace is way too slow

This seems like two separate stories mixed-- a romance and on-off crime investigation. The two lead actors did a nice job. Some commentors thought the leads didn't have chemistry and I can see why they thought that. However, I think the issue is that both leads were portraying introverts in a slow show. It's the writing and directing that made them boring.

For me the super slow pacing was the problem. Lots of scenes of the lead actors staring into space or silently judging, walking aimlessly endlessly (through parks, along streets, the beach, up and down stairs), and hanging out drinking coffee or whatever.... then, more scenes of the same. The show improved when I started watching a 1.5x speed. No need to watch this one again.

AHHHHHH 😭😭 I still can't believe Payback: The Series only has 10 episodes!! I was literally shocked when it ended because it felt like time flew by so fast. 💔

Since I had already read the **Payback** manhwa, I honestly had really high expectations. And this is just my personal opinion, but I think they did an amazing job adapting it into a drama. 🥹👏

When I first heard that **Payback** was getting a live-action adaptation, I was literally SHOCKED because if you've read the manhwa... YOU KNOW HOW INSANE IT IS. 😭🔥 There are so many intense moments that I kept wondering, *"How are they going to pull this off?"* But they really did their best, and I genuinely enjoyed the adaptation.

To all the manhwa readers out there... YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, RIGHT???? 😭🤝 The manhwa is absolutely wild, and seeing it come to life was such an unforgettable experience.

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard on this adaptation. You all did an amazing job! ❤️✨


TOPTAP... YOUR ACTING WAS SO DAMN GOOD!!! 😭👏 You portrayed Jay perfectly, and Min did such an amazing job as Sun. Their chemistry had me screaming every episode. 🫠❤️

And SUNNY... 😭 I hated your CHARACTER so much!! 😂 (Not the actor, of course! He did an amazing job—that's exactly why I hated the character so much. 🤣)

I honestly don't even have enough words to describe how much I loved this drama. It was intense, emotional, exciting, and HOTTTTTT. 🫣🔥 Every episode left me wanting more.

If you're thinking about watching Payback: The Series... DO IT!! I 1000% recommend it. You won't regret it.

What am I supposed to do now?! I'm already missing them so much. 😭 This drama had EVERYTHING I wanted—crime, mystery, romance, suspense... and it was absolutely PERFECT! Every episode had me screaming, smiling, and kicking my feet. 🥹❤️

THE LEADS!!! AHHHHHH 😭 Their chemistry was INSANE! They looked so adorable together, and every scene they shared had me smiling like an idiot. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to them. 😭

A huge round of applause to the entire cast because everyone did an amazing job. They brought every character to life, and I was completely invested from the first episode to the last.

I'm seriously suffering from post-drama depression right now. 😭 I NEED MORE EPISODES!! A special episode... a Season 2... ANYTHING!! PLEASEEEE! 🥺❤️

Como dice el título: caí Deep In.

He visto muchos dramas boys love: chinos, taiwaneses, tailandeses y de otros países. Algunos han sido mejores que otros; unos más apasionados, otros con historias bonitas pero muy comunes, algunos con excelentes plot twists y otros en los que apenas conseguí llegar al final. Incluso hubo varios que terminé por pura costumbre, sin sentir absolutamente nada.

Pero este... este me hizo caer tan fuerte que, incluso ahora, todavía no logro asimilarlo.

Entré a ver este drama con mucho recelo. Después de pasar tanto tiempo buscando una historia que realmente me desestabilizara —en el buen sentido—, que me dejara destruida emocionalmente y que me sorprendiera con un giro inesperado, terminé sintiendo que todos los dramas eran iguales. Las emociones eran las mismas, las historias se parecían y, al terminar cada uno, la sensación siempre era idéntica. Poco a poco perdí el entusiasmo.

Un día, cuando me encontraba muy mal emocionalmente, decidí darle una oportunidad a Deep In. No esperaba nada de él. No esperaba emocionarme, ni enamorarme de la historia, ni mucho menos que se convirtiera en uno de mis dramas favoritos. Lo empecé únicamente porque había leído que era muy apasionado y pensé: "Si voy a aburrirme, al menos que sea viendo algo así".

Sin embargo, puedo decir, con culpa y con fascinación, que me equivoqué.

Y fue la mejor equivocación de mi vida.

Entré por la pasión y me quedé por la historia, por los personajes y por las emociones. Llegó un momento en el que las escenas subidas de tono dejaron de importarme; lo único que quería era seguir viendo cómo se sentían ellos, comprenderlos y hacer su dolor y su felicidad un poco míos. Y eso fue maravilloso.

Desde el primer capítulo consiguió atraparme. Aun así, seguía pensando: "Sí, me atrapó, pero ya sé cómo va a desarrollarse todo". Qué equivocada estaba.

Mientras más avanzaban los capítulos, más caía en su juego de emociones. Cada episodio me destruía un poco más, pero, por alguna razón, esa destrucción se sentía hermosa.

Este drama fue una montaña rusa emocional. Lloré, reí, sentí angustia, miedo y esperanza como si los sentimientos de los protagonistas fueran también los míos. Hubo un momento en el que tuve que detenerme durante unas horas porque las emociones eran tantas que terminé completamente abrumada. Nunca antes un drama había conseguido hacerme sentir algo así.

Y lo que más me sigue impresionando es lo sencillo que fue todo. Los escenarios eran normales, las escenas no necesitaban grandes artificios, la música era discreta y la historia avanzaba con rapidez. Aun así, consiguió dejarme completamente petrificada.

Me conmovió tanto que sentí cómo removía algo dentro de mí. Me atrajo de una forma casi magnética.

Cada escena, por sencilla que fuera, tenía una fuerza impresionante. No podía dejar de mirar la pantalla, incluso cuando ya estaba completamente inundada de emociones.

Quiero agradecer a los actores, a los directores y a todo el equipo de producción por el excelente trabajo que hicieron. Para mí fue como presenciar algo mágico a través de una pantalla, y eso me conmovió hasta lo más profundo.

Creo que precisamente esa sencillez fue una de las mayores virtudes del drama. No necesitó exagerar nada para ser perfecto. Encontró un equilibrio entre lo simple, lo emocional y lo doloroso que pocas veces he visto.

Las escenas cargadas de sentimientos, viendo a los personajes intentar comprender emociones que ni ellos mismos sabían manejar, terminaron por desestabilizarme por completo. Me dejaron fascinada y completamente sumergida en su historia.

Normalmente, cuando veo dramas, suelo acelerar algunas escenas a velocidad x2 o incluso desear que terminen de una vez porque siento que ya sé cómo acabarán. Con Deep In fue imposible.

Aunque intuía el final, no pude adelantar ni un solo minuto. Quería terminarlo porque las emociones eran demasiado intensas, pero al mismo tiempo no podía apartar la vista. Era como si los personajes me hubieran tomado de la mano y no me permitieran irme.

Creo que no solo fueron las emociones del drama las que hicieron que me quedara hasta el final, sino también el momento en el que llegó a mi vida. Yo estaba muy mal, desanimada y convencida de que ningún drama volvería a sorprenderme. Entré sin ganas y sin expectativas... y terminé encontrando una historia que me recordó por qué amo este género.

Otro aspecto espectacular fue el plot twist. No es el tipo de giro que la mayoría espera. No necesito hablar más sobre él porque creo que merece ser descubierto por cada persona que vea esta historia.

Hubo dos frases que me rompieron de la mejor manera posible y quiero compartirlas:

«"El juicio del mundo es aterrador."»

«"Las flores más bellas son las que la gente rompe. La belleza te trajo dolor. Pero deberías saber que la belleza no es tu culpa. Lo que más me duele es verte castigarte por el pecado de otro hombre."»

No quiero profundizar más sobre el drama ni analizar estas frases, porque entonces nunca terminaría de escribir.

Solo quiero agradecer, una vez más, a todas las personas que hicieron posible este proyecto.

Gracias por desestabilizarme de una manera tan hermosa. Gracias por recordarme que una historia sencilla también puede romperte el corazón y, al mismo tiempo, hacerte sentir más viva que nunca.

Pursuit of Jade became my favorite historical drama because I was emotionally invested in the characters from beginning to end. The chemistry between the leads, the performances, and the emotional moments were the biggest reasons I enjoyed it so much.

I don't agree with people who say the drama became popular only because of Zhang Ling He's visuals. His screen presence certainly attracted many viewers, but visuals alone cannot keep people watching an entire drama. If the story had not been engaging and the chemistry between the leads had not been convincing, it would never have received so much love.

That said, I do think the drama had room for improvement. The war scenes felt underwhelming, and the final arc deserved a much bigger scale. I also wish the drama had shown the events from sixteen years ago in more detail instead of only explaining them through dialogue. Seeing those moments on screen would have made the emotional impact even stronger.

Even with these flaws, the drama never lost its charm for me. The romance, the characters, and the emotional journey stayed with me long after I finished watching. It may not be the greatest historical drama ever made, but it is my personal favorite, and I will gladly rewatch it.

Great Art piece, terrible entertainment

Art is meant to invoke a deep emotional or intellectual response from the viewer while entertainment is meant to provide enjoyment and escapism. That distinction made it difficult for me to rate this series as I initially started watching it as entertainment. Under that guise, I was finding the series rather slow and somewhat boring. But once I started viewing it from an Art perspective, I found myself become more engaged with it and eager to see where it was going.

As Art, I would rate it a 9. It definitely hit me emotionally and is staying with me after I finished watching. But as entertainment, I rate it a 5 as I found long stretches to be rather boring and most of the emotions that it evokes are negative – primarily sadness and frustration and the miss/lacking communication trope (which I hate) is way overused. Overall, I would likely have given it an 8 as it did succeed as an Art piece for me but I settled on a 6 as I felt episodes 8-9 had provided an excellent opportunity to provide a satisfactory ending from both an art and an entertainment perspective and they instead chose to go with a pure Art ending that left me only feeling frustrated..

The Good:
The cinematography/editing is excellent. The way they used lighting, scene settings and superimposition were great in supporting the emotions for particular moments in the drama.

The sound track also did a great job conveying the emotions for the underlying scene.

The acting is a bit mixed for me. For a majority of the series, Park Jin-young and Kim Min-ju are emotionless or sad...even when Tae-seo and Eun-a are together. Considering the art aspect of the series, I assume this was how they were directed to act. But in the pivotal scenes, they did an excellent job conveying the emotions of the scene. And how they portrayed their initial dating was perfect. They really brought out the awkwardness of a teen first love relationship. (Side note: I am constantly amazed at how Korean actors in their 30's can convincingly portray high school students – Park Jin-young did an excellent job)

The 'misunderstanding' scene in ep 8 is brilliant. Sequence of small, innocuous decisions adding up to a catastrophic consequence.

The series was full of nuance that is easy to miss and greatly adds to the art of the series. From how the name for Eun-a's contact info in Tae-seo's phone changed as the story progresses to how the seasons are used to set the tone to the field of flowers relating to the current status of their relationship. They also make great use of symmetry such as the bike path split that appears in the beginning and again at the end.

To put a positive spin on the long narrative stasis / interiority scenes, they are mostly easy to FF thru as they usually do not include a voice over (although a few do).

The Bad:
It overdoes the narrative stasis and interiority scenes. While making FF easy, it became a bit of a drag even from an Art perspective.

It overuses the miscommunication trope. All of their issues would have been solved by a couple of 2 minute conversations...instead, when there was an issue, it was “Let's break up” → “OK”. This is fine from an Art perspective but is very frustrating from an entertainment perspective.

The ending is terrible. The series had done a great job in ep 8/9 in setting up a plausible ending with A-sol. She was a much better fit for Tae-seo from an intellectual and personal values perspective but instead they end it with Eun-a leaving to live her life abroad and Tae-seo essentially saying 'I will go build the life we talked about and if you ever want to join me, I will be waiting”. Thus, other than finally having a bit of clear communication between them, neither really show any personal growth – he remains the duty-bound, self-sacrificing giver and she remains the emotionally avoidant taker. Perhaps appropriate as an Art piece but I feel going with an A-sol ending would not have hurt that aspect and would have provided closure from an entertainment perspective

Summary
If you enjoy emotional Art dramas, you may really enjoy this series. But if you want a drama that has fast pacing, shows character growth and provides a satisfying ending, you may want to skip this one.

worth the watch!!!

I always like seeing Hou Ming Hao in these type of dramas. He always k*lls these roles. Great fighting scenes with him.
I didnt skip through. Every episode was so interesting. One point, you will hate some characters and then some point, you will love some characters. I like the plots and everyone performed great for their role.
The romance aspect for me was good even though there WAS NO KISSING scene but it is like, it didnt matter because their chemistry was 10/10 and their love was growing for each other.
For the ending, I wish they didnt hide it from her regardless of wanting her to live her life....
This was actually worth the watch!

Chemistry ! ✨

Yay! One to add to my list of dramas that I had really high expectations for and didn't let me down!

Spoilers ahead!!






Is it a perfect drama? No. To start with the (somewhat) negatives:
- Does it ever get explained why FML gets body swapped? Nope, it happens, and FML accepts it immediately. tbh, I do too
- Am I confused about how ML is brought back to life? 100%! Soooo confused! He was definitely dead! For four years! huh?
- I think the drama ended too abruptly after ML came back. I would have liked to see the other characters react to his reappearance and see how they decide to rule the country now, since FML and baby are dowager empress and emperor, is ML becoming emperor now? Taking some more time for this would have also given an opportunity to properly explain what happened after his "death" and why it took four years to reanimate him. What was he doing in those four years? It's a bit too implausible for me.

However, why I actually don't care about these negatives:
- I looooove MZY in a FML role where she is super smart, motivated, and love is the last thing on her to-do list (if it even makes it on the list). I think she nails these roles and love her in this. I also like that they have a different approach for the bodyswap/stolen identity trope here, where FML accepts it 100%, and clearly loves her non-dad, non-brother and completely adopts her new identity. It makes me anxious in other dramas when characters are too hung up on their past lives and give themselves away.
- Tbh, I can get over the weird way they handled ML's non-death, because I was honestly heartbroken when he died. Like, actually so incredibly sad. I was crying at all the eps after, even when the scenes weren't sad, cause just the thought that FML would have to go on alone was so heartbreaking. So, yes, I was happy when he was back.
- Honestly, MZY and HY are incredible in this. They both nail their characters, and the chemistry is so good I was blushing. The pacing of MZY's character arc is very good, it really takes time to melt her heart and convince her that maybe she can both reach her goals, and have love. I also love her attitude towards HY's character in the beginning, because he lowkey is annoying! Which I say in a loving way, cause HY does a great job of playing ML as a really cheeky, unserious guy on the one hand, yet on the other, having moments that clearly show the audience ML is actually super smart and calculating, and considers situations from every angle.

In short, my favourite genre of drama is two leads who are both super smart and capable, and are on a journey to become a team and fall in love. The end. Blossoms of Power falls in this perfectly.

Isolated Island, Shaky Tropes, Struggles to Keep Its Footing

Set on a remote island where public health doctors fulfill their mandatory service, facing both medical emergencies without standard equipment and severe maritime distress, personal growth, community, and unexpected romance.

I preferred this series for Lee Jae Wook who did a phenomenal work in Alchemy of Souls (both 1 and 2) and yet in this drama his character was not written up to his potential and I felt disappointed, the romance felt forced and the chemistry between the leads was a bit shaky. The 2nd couple romance was much more engaging and fun, their story and chemistry was felt genuine(at least for me). The quirky islanders provide much-needed comedic relief.

The story was good but it also has it flaws as some story developments becomes predictable in some episodes, classic clichés like sudden ex- loves returns, miscommunications, gossiping/nosy villagers , love triangle (this was completely unnecessary) which hampered the drama quite a bit.

Overall, It's an okay one-time watch if you're looking for a light medical drama.

A deeper dive into a gripping tale of revenge, redemption and karma meeting heartfelt drama of life

A webtoon adaptation that did justice and honored the original creation without messing up with the storyline; a proper execution of its true kind!

⚠️ Disclaimer: Before you proceed, you need to know that I read both the novel and the manhwa; so my review will have comparison of both original content and the adaptation.

When I got the news that "Payback" manhwa would get a Thai adaptation, initially I was skeptical as the original language and the setting of the drama were in Korean. So, naturally, I thought we'd lose lots of cultural nuances in the adaptation, as both countries possess different cultures and characteristics of their own. But to my surprise, it was way better than I expected it to be! They religiously followed the manhwa and added all the important scenes and, honestly, I can't be happier. Unlike the Korean adaptations, this Thai adaptation gave justice to the storyline and proved why, in making BLs, Thailand is superior to other countries. The adaptation faithful towards its original material and they preserved all of its raw and unhinged emotions intact to the point that it felt like I was seeing those manhwa characters coming out of the page and taking a human form to present exactly what I had read. I didn't watch this, it consumed me.

Sun knew it.

Storyline wise, this drama has everything, from a sad backstory, thrilling revenge plan, emotional turmoil, finding oneself, a dramatic roller-coaster ride of a rotten system to falling in love with unexpected people in unexpected ways. It covered everything skillfully with its true emotional intensity. This had the most gripping atmosphere spread throughout the series so that one cannot just stop at one episode and keep it for another day. It's so deliciously addicting, that watching this ongoing might feel like an emotional torture.
It'd be a crime if I didn't mention how the intimate scenes of Jay and Sun were unexpectedly bold and beautiful at the same time. They just nailed the right balance of the seen and unseen emotions as they did not hesitate to illustrate their body chemistry. Jay displayed toxic, controlling, and possessive behavior towards Sun initially looked concerning but soon Jay's constant coercion and unfiltered love-shower made Sun break his black and white concrete boundaries and let him free from his suffocated shackles he bound himself with and see the colourful moments of life like everyone else.

Acting wise, I have to say I couldn't find any flaws here. If you have read the manhwa, you'll know how composed, emotionless and indifferent the Sun was. Minlee portrayed the originally written character so well that at first it might feel like he's frozen and can't act well, but his character is like that in the manhwa. On the other hand, Toptap as Jay was a brilliant cast. His overall figure, body postures, way of talking and doing things were too good! He perfectly grabbed the cocky, crazy yet smart, calm and cool executive director aura. Even though both of them were playing the lead role for the first time, they did their homework very well.
From the supporting characters, Sky, manager Kajorn and Jay's uncle Jo stole my heart. They were fabulous. Sky's acting and his backstory brought tears to my eyes. Even Sun's story couldn't do that. I'm just so in love with the manager, Kajorn, and his unwavering commitment to his artists. He was clumsy, nervous at times, funny and heartwarmingly lovely father and manager. He only wanted the best for them. And uncle Jo, maybe he was there for some comic relief, but it was well needed. He was the only one who made Sun smile for the first time. With his silly words, he kept the mood light when Sun was tensed and agitated. The intricate detailing of each and every character was brilliantly portrayed on screen.

Without the clean cinematography and pumped up OST, it would be as impactful as it is including them. They kept the suspense and mysterious atmosphere of the thrill alive.

Overall, I had a great time binging this series. It kept me on the edge till the end of the series to see what happens to the characters. So, if you want to watch something that is thrilling, spicy and full of shady people doing people dirty, then you can trust my words and give it a try.

What happened!

I'll keep this short, but the essence of this review is that the show is for morons now.

Everything that I liked about season 1 is just missing. S1 was smartly written, it had interesting characters trying to one up each other, great set pieces with decent action, thrilling drama with moments of levity. One of the best shows that I've seen.

I cannot watch past episode 2 of season 2. It's like the writers and director forgot what made their show good. It has a completely different tone than s1. Now it's goofy, hammy, corny, overacted, and boring. The characters no long act like their s1 counterparts and they mostly sit around and talk. When they aren't talking they are hamming it up to the camera making dumb expressions like a bad comedy.

Everything is wrong. I cannot understand how anyone that loved s1 could even watch this. It's one of the biggest drops in quality in TV history. I would compare it to Game of Thrones after s4 and the K-Drama show The Uncanny Counter s2. Both of those shows had amazing starts and just like those show this one drops the ball by changing the way the show works (almost on all levels of production).

If you want specifics, just go read the other low reviews because others have pointed out the inconsistency in quality between the two seasons. I'm here to basically rant because I LOVED s1. Not only is it one of the best Chinese dramas that I've ever seen, but I would put it up against most great shows across the globe. I wouldn't suggest anyone waste their time watching s2 because it turned into a hot garbage, low quality soap opera. What a joke.

AI Action

Hm, a strange film. It lasts only an hour and nothing gets resolved, so this is actually the first episode of a possible series. What works in the film’s favor are the well-known actors, of whom there are many, but they didn’t really put in much effort here. The first half of the film is just dialogue between the characters, while the second half consists of AI-generated action scenes that look interesting in individual frames but don’t work in a cinematic format. It’s clear that AI has become part of the film industry, and if used in individual shots it can replace CGI and similar needs for enhancing a scene, but it still can’t look as good as a real film. Therefore the action and fantasy shown here come across as a bit ridiculous and, above all, unconvincing. I have seen so much better use of AI on twitter. Still, as they say, it’s worth a try.

This is an attempt at implementing AI in a film. It didn’t really impress me, and the story isn’t well explained either. Nevertheless, I’m curious how it continues, so if there’s a sequel I’ll look for it.

this is an unconventional friendship story & i think the "gay romance" tag is misleading (& why people's panties got in a bunch, calling this "queerbaiting"), there was/is no gay romance to be had - maybe a bit of gay curiosity & if u think of the ending, there is a sec u can interpret as a an open ending, with the promise of a romance developing between the mains.
personally given everything - think platonic, as most of this "BL" was, even the bully's motives didn't stem from attraction IMO he genuinely liked Hong Il Tak & treated him like one would do a younger sibling, that they find so cute they wanna squish & bug... the roughhousing given who he was, wasn't mean spirited in his mind/heart/eyes... of course said sibling, doesn't enjoy this treatment & voices their annoyance sooner or later.
Hong Il Tak didn't, cause he genuinely believed he was being bullied cause he was weak & hated, so like any victim he kept quite, cause saying anything could make the situation worse.

Lee Hyeon Wu might have been bi-curious or he liked cute things so much so that gender didn't matter - he fought it long enough, but then just gave in... even though that took on a bullying nature later on... so we don't really know enough about what was going on in his head. but by the end both leads bonded cause of the beat-down.

also i don't think Hong Il Tak was made out to be "as girly as possible", that is such a strawman description. he wasn't effeminate or camp, he was a normal teen that was small of stature & build - the fact his beauty is softer & more boyish then manly, doesn't make him girly - like WTF. & other then one scene, where he thought about some femme fatale from the Joseon era & how she bewitched armies of men - there was no flirting done from my POV. his approaching Lee Hyeon Wu was genuinely how one would approach another in curiosity & trepidation, if u see them as stronger then u & want to befriend them.
there was not an ounce of eyelid batting on Hong Il Tak's part, the fact that there were times from Lee Hyeon Wu's POV it looked like that, it's cause he was charmed by him even before they talked. that doesn't make this "queerbaiting" like plz.

this was a sweet, fun & funny youth, friendship drama. it's not a romance or a BL & i enjoyed it all the same, cause it was sweet & wholesome - pity the bully didn't become Hong Il Tak's friend too, but those wires that were crossed, got disseminated the sec he went to the 3rd yr & got him to beat down Lee Hyeon Wu. so other then that part (were i kinda felt sorry for the bully cause he wasn't a bad guy) i really enjoyed this & i for sure will rewatch this when i want something light & fun to binge watch.
