A Fairly Good Script With Several Twists Different From The Novel

It was refreshing to see Ci Sha as the lead actor, carrying the role well as both an older statesman and a middle-aged man. The director seemed overly generous with the number of kissing scenes for the lead couples, perhaps getting carried away. Over many episodes, I was puzzled by how the Chancellor, once deeply motivated to reform the country, turned into a greedy and corrupt man willing to collude with Northern Barbarians against his own people. Even until the final episode, I believed this brilliant man blindly trusted his wife simply to please her. I was unexpectedly moved to tears when Ye Xian died in episode 39; his speech rallying his troops was truly inspiring. For years, he bore the shame of being unable to assume his father’s marquis title due to heart illness, and I never expected him to die in battle. Chen Xuan Qing’s transformation from a bright, mature, sensible kid into someone consumed by jealousy toward his father and uncle was a ridiculous twist. At his final hour of death, he returned to that sensible child felt deeply ironic.

Insanely GOOD

Well I finished and am revising my original review to try my best to give this drama proper due because it is insanely good. I love the writing! It's deep. The dialogues and connections make one think. In practically every character's lines there's substance. That's one of the powers of the drama. In every single character there's a you and I. It's a slice of life that leaves you thinking because of its resonating messages to everyday people.

Hwang Dong Man, the main male character played by Koo Kyo Hwan, will never be easily forgotten. Using weather terms to describe him (his film title Weather Maker) he can be like the scorching sun. Honestly blunt no filter, loud with energy, and serious with his martial arts. He can be like a relieving sun shower. He's soft hearted when needed, protective of those he cares for, and though might grumble but will do for others. He's like lightning strike when he acts impulsively when he's hot, defensively to defend a friend, or even rebellious to break rules to follow his heart. Then he's warm spring, where he's simple, loyal to his friends, brings healing to Eun Na, comforting her. Let me not forget he's like thunder bringing booming laughter maybe not the club eight but all of us watching him. Koo Kyo Hwan deserves an award for this role I feel. He nailed it.

Go Youn Jung, as Eun A, has a quiet character. Silent but quite the force in talent for writing, dedication to her adoptive family, and compliment her budding relationship with the opposite in personality Dong man. She barely had lines but effectively carried the weight of her feelings in her expressions. She and Dong man had the purest most beautiful relationship. She's one of my favorite actresses now.

Every single character had their own story and strong point to contribute to the overall story. Everyone deserves recognition for bringing us a great story.

Twelve episodes wrapped beautifully is easily on my top list of my favorite dramas of all time, certainly for this year 2026. Its an absolute masterpiece.

Pink Is Not the New Red

By naming itself after one of the greatest ballet films ever made, this movie didn’t do itself any favors. It really bothered me at first that the shoes were pink. However, it turns out the original Korean title translates to "Pink Shoes", so I won’t hold the translation against it. The premise of a woman finding haunted shoes was interesting, but the execution left a lot to be desired. The writing could have been stronger, and the repetitive plot made the film drag on, making it hard at times to stay engaged.

However, the visuals were definitely stronger than the rest of the film. What made them so interesting was the use of vivid color, especially the focus on the bright pink of the shoes contrasted against the neutral colors in the background. While it had entertaining moments, and I don’t regret watching it, this is not a film I would revisit.

Overall: 2.5/5
Quality: 3/5
Enjoyment: 2.5/5

Second male lead stole the limelight

Ep 27-28 killed me, I cried so many tears. As much as I love the main leads romance, I think I was more emotionally moved by Ye xians story, I usually hate second lead storylines but his was just sad, he truly is a character of despair, his storyline made me cry a lot. I see a lot of people hating on his character of being a man-child, but i think Gu Jinzhao said it best, when he was outside her window the night before she got married about what kind of guy he is. While she was the love of his life, he was her twin flame.

The ending really could have been more, it felt like it was cut short, like maybe the main leads happy in their lives, or something a bit more satisfying to the bad guy ending, cause that was not satisfying, like that was it? The main leads romance was a quiet but mature kind of yearning and love, it's nice to see. A male lead full of nothing but green flags, a female lead strong headed but smart. The way they could understand each other and go through things together is the best kind of relationship to have.

The politics I didn't really care for in the story, it was the typical evil story of corrupt ministers, but him at the end was probably the only evil guy that wanted things to turn around, I see why they don't do that storyline more often, because it looks dumb, you did so many bad things and now you regret? Like at least be a more evil person or something, his wife too was loyal, he literally suffered through nothing, still in power even when he died, he didn't suffer, that's what I didn't like. But I will say I paid more attention than in the other dramas when it involves politics, probably because I wanted to see how the young emperor would go about it. He did well.

All in all solid drama, the ost in the later part really did a number on me, contributed to my cause of crying. Minus points for so much attention on the second male lead story because I almost feel as though he had as much screen time as the male lead, as much as I love the second male lead story, I'm here for the romance, the politics was alright nothing crazy. Would I recommend? Yea, why not.

Unfortunately disappointed

Because of the strong cast, I was highly intrigued, especially after watching IU's previous work. Diving into this show, the start was decent, but because of my anticipation, I was expecting the script and story to be mind blowing only for the ending to be kind of predictable and a bit rushed.
While watching, I did enjoy the cast and their acting as their display of emotions were absolutely fantastic. I absolutely loved the way the actress of the queen managed to showcase her talent for acting as well as the kid who played the young king, as his talent deserves to be recognized.
I did feel a lack of chemistry in the show between the couples, which did make the show slightly hard to continue, but despite the script being mediocre, it was a show I managed to finish, which is kind of rare for me this year.
This show, like many others, had a huge potential to being something amazing, but yet the results ended up being average.

Gorgeous hero and Stylish fight sequences stringed by random plot devices

On my 13th episode, I am kind of unsure what to do.
I absolutely loved the first 5 episodes--Yang Yang's fight sequences when he is revealed as the "Imperial Cat" Zhan Zhao was fabulous. Though i liked the actor who plays FL in The First Frost somehow here she doesn't seem to fit into the scheme of things (remembering the FL and ML of Pursuit of Jade).
Yang Yang is Gorgeous and carries the show along with the actor who plays Bai Yu Tang.
But on my 13th episode, the show seems more like a series of stylishly choreographed and shot fight sequences (at one point--I was even reminded of the back to back fight sequences in the film The Raid)--also the slo mo during intense action scenes and the bordering-on-the-funny bromance dialogues in the middle of a fight (think of the one where there are two Bai Yu Tangs in the latter's island) et al are reminiscent of Indian commercial films with great fight sequences (think of the Baahubali for instance).

Anyway, it wound't be exaggerating to say that I am watching the show still, fast forwarding at places, just to see how it goes as it is evident Yang Yang has put in (as has the show put in) a lot of efforts for the fight scenes. Even then, goes without saying that the show is turning out to be a series of fight sequences with a gorgeous ML made to look gorgeous further on screen stringed by literally random plot devices (that are kind of outlandish, in spite of the necessary suspension of disbelief) and I don't know how much further I can carry on, unless there's some real meat in the plot.

It never truly ends

Overall 10/10
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

All of it was so good, honestly.
The sybolism with food and eating whenever the villains gathered was so well doneto represent the unending greed. Unsatisfiable greed! I loved that we got an open ending; it really just felt so good and mirrors reality.
- It never truly ends -
I would love to see a second season, but I am also very happy to leave it at this. The actors were fantastic, not a single moment where I wasn't fully immersed while watching - everyone truly did justice to their roles. The storytelling was amazing, and the ost is definitely one of my favourites now.

I can’t believe I have to say this, but I can’t finish this… at least not now 😭 I’m a huge fan of Ahn Hyo Seop, but this drama is… a bit boring to me. The story feels so uninteresting and predictable.

It’s my first time seeing the female lead and she’s okay, but the chemistry feels a bit off. I just can’t say I’m invested in their couple. Honestly, I find the secondary couples more interesting, and I think that’s a problem.

Also, although I love Kim Beom… why did they waste him so much? 😭 The triangle feels completely unnecessary. The main romance isn’t even interesting enough for a triangle in the first place, and his character feels more like a side character.

So the biggest problem for me is definitely the plot. Like… really? It feels like a very basic drama with nothing special, and it reminds me so much of The Potato Lab and Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.

I have to drop this, but I’ll still cheer for them in the future 🥲 I think it’s just not everyone’s cup of tea.

What a Mess

The show has some interesting characters forming unique relationships in some complex situations. This could have been a pretty good show. Instead it's just a mess. Part of me wants to organize my thoughts more before posting, but I don't want to put any more time into this show. It's not worth it.

The main characters just don't act rationally at times. The secondary characters include Mi Gu, possibly the dumbest character I have seen in cdramas, and Zhuo Ran, who exists mainly to torture the two leads in spite of his claims to the contrary. The various minions in the show are similarly constructed, doing whatever they can to harm the leads with no regard for their own safety. Midway through I had lost my suspension of disbelief, as I could feel the writer trying to make the viewer feel sad or scared or happy, and it's all too heavy handed to accept.

The overall plot line is incoherent. There's a weird tangent on one, and only one, of the FL's patients. The FL's boss has a big change in his life, and then he mostly, but not completely, disappears. There's a cute cat, who also fades away (maybe that's fortunate because a bird shows up). One of the important secondary characters is stuck in a dangerous situation, and nobody seems to have any desire to get him out of that trouble. The extended military training scenes are... I don't know what their purpose was, and it almost felt like the funding for the show depended on support from the People's Liberation Army.

The acting is OK, but the ML felt a bit flat to me. I had seen the FL in a couple of other shows, where she was pretty good, but here I felt her character was inconsistent. The main villain is not convincing. One minor issue, the ML's aunt is played by an actress who looks way too young for the part.

Complex puzzle making up a painfully sad picture

It’s an odd drama. Tonally, it’s all over the place. It starts as an old-school comedy where a constantly bickering rookie graduate and experienced local policeman get paired to investigate what looks like a prank, and ends up being a hard-hitting life drama with a multilayered mystery that irrevocably changes the two men's lives and continues to haunt them and their loved ones over 18 years.
The story carries a heavy emotional weight that keeps growing as the mystery gets more intricate and emotional stakes deepen. The way the mystery was set up, it wasn't particularly suspenseful or engaging but rather bleak. Instead of feeling thrilled at being able to figure things out, I kept hoping my predictions wouldn’t prove true as my mind spiralled into unpleasantly dark scenarios.
What kept me watching was the story of the mutual respect and friendship that grew from the initial rivalry and blossomed into a family bond shared by He Yuanhang, his daughter Xiaohe and ‘uncle’ Ran. The community and relationships parts were very well written with touching moments of warmth and support. It was He Yuanhang who anchored the story emotionally for me. Pan Yueming brilliantly captured the character’s transformation from a street-savvy, self-confident officer to an elderly man weighed down by life. Wang Hedi as the rookie-turned-captain-turned professor and Ren Min as the grown up Xiaohe also gave strong, heartfelt performances that helped pull me into the story.

The fragmented narrative follows the three protagonists as they investigate the same mystery in three different years - 1997, 2002 and 2015. The transitions between the timelines were handled very well, providing a fresh supply of clues, red herrings and misdirections to maintain the tension. The cinematography was excellent. Even though the story moved slowly, the shots were always interesting to look at, visually dense, with details and lighting that invited the eye and built a mysterious atmosphere, so it never felt boring. I liked the ‘haunted building’ setting, thriller undertones and all the details that kept the story grounded in the time and place, but that realism also made the story weigh on me more than expected.

To sum up, this drama is a dissonant mix of absurd comedy, slice of life with realistic portrayals of human struggles, police procedural and human trafficking thriller, gelled together by skillful storytelling, emotionally resonant characters and great music!

Possible spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m in a complaining mood, so feel free to skip this part;)

Some events in this drama stretch credibility.
Taking a small child to a dark, out-of-use parking garage was negligent (especially since they had no problem leaving her with random people or alone at other times), but I guess it was needed so she could remember certain details 18 years later.
Another example is the method of killing that was faaaar from foolproof but incredibly worked every time! Just so it could be used as a clue.
It’s hard to believe that no one knew about the culprits being best friends. Ex? Coworkers? The neighbours never saw them visiting each other?
Song Qingsong’s end made my eyes roll. Of course, he couldn’t just stay abroad and live a good life. Same with the guilty parties. Everyone conveniently stayed around to be picked up by the police. C-drama reality:)

The crime investigation process was also unconvincing at times: jumping to conclusions based on scant evidence, sloppy searches, witnesses conveniently remembering key details from more than a decade ago, which is possible of course, but the script relied on it on too many occasions. Ran not telling anyone about solving the case before approaching the killer goes against both his training and common sense. He Yuanhang choosing not to open a parcel with case details, just keep it at home for a decade, made me sigh loudly. It was also frustrating that they weren't treating certain people and clues seriously or following up on some leads. In other words, they acted professionally until the story needed them not to. However, for a case with so many suspects, red herrings and comedy parts it was still acceptable, I guess:)
Btw I never really liked the culprit - they seemed very fake to me from the start so I wasn't emotionally involved with their story, which probably also influenced my perception of the drama.

Ok drama.... Actor Yoon Bak shines here, great script and acting .... SML-SFL couple is the best

The fact that I 100% forgot I completed this drama a while ago, says it all... BUT after reading recaps to jog my memory, I realized I DO remember one thing: the second lead couple. The drama is worth watching it for them.

Why I watched it? bc of the premise - HOW DID CINDERELLA FEEL AT 2AM?

I just saw the title by coincidence and it looked familiar, so I clicked on it and YES I watched this drama. But I dont remember much about it except the second lead couple..

In retrospect, why I watched it?
SangMin gave a decent performance as the ML - but not great
and his brother gave an AMAZING performance, and the relationship between him and his wife was just wonderful, how two strangers fell in love
and FL was not bad. She was written as a decent person, not a damsel in distress

So overall it was not a terrible drama. When I was watching it, I was not too happy nor too unhappy about it :)
but the fact that I dont remember too much about it... means it was not so... deep or impactful or engaging
A nice frill, shall we say :)

A Love Story Written Across Timelines

Blossoming Love is honestly one of those dramas that stays with you long after you finish it. Or in my case, even after being forced to put it on hold because of locked Youku episodes. I still remember how obsessed I was when I first started it. I binged more than twenty episodes in a single day because the story completely pulled me in with its mystery, emotional tension, and layered storytelling. Unfortunately, the long break made me lose some emotional connection with the characters, otherwise this could have easily been a 9.5/10 drama for me. Even now, I know this is the kind of drama that deserves a full rewatch because there are so many details and connections you only fully understand later.

For anyone planning to watch this drama, I would honestly say not to let mixed reviews stop you. The plot may sound familiar on paper with themes of fate, rebirth, gods, demons, and time loops, but the way the story is told feels incredibly fresh and creative. This is not a straightforward fantasy romance where everything is spoon-fed to the audience. The storytelling is complex, nonlinear, and layered across different timelines involving the past, present, and future. Many scenes that initially seem confusing or random eventually come full circle and make complete sense later on.

The story begins with Mu Xuanling, the Saintess of the Dark Realm, rescuing Xie Xuechen, the cold and righteous alliance leader. What starts as a playful and flirtatious dynamic slowly evolves into something much deeper and far more tragic. One of the best things about this drama is that the female lead actively pursues the male lead from the very beginning. She is bold, confident, intelligent, and emotionally expressive, which makes her feel refreshing compared to the usual passive fantasy heroines.

Sun Zhen Ni absolutely shines in this role. Mu Xuanling is playful and teasing on the surface, but underneath that charm is someone carrying loneliness, trauma, and emotional scars. Watching her slowly unravel across the story was genuinely emotional. Her chemistry with Vin Zhang was excellent, and together they created one of the most emotionally satisfying fantasy couples I have seen in recent dramas.

The male lead also surprised me. At first he appears to be the typical cold savior archetype, but as the story progresses, his layers slowly reveal themselves. His journey across timelines and identities was heartbreaking. One of my favorite revelations in the drama was learning that he had always been the “Gege” from the female lead’s memories. Suddenly all the strange glitches and timeline inconsistencies made sense. The drama handles its time-loop elements surprisingly well, and every reveal feels rewarding rather than random.

The romance is honestly beautiful. It is not just about attraction but about trust, sacrifice, destiny, and choosing each other again and again despite pain and loss. What I appreciated most was the lack of forced misunderstandings between the leads. Even when the story becomes complicated, they continue to trust and protect one another. Their love story felt epic, emotional, and deeply fated in a way that fantasy dramas often try to achieve but rarely fully succeed at.

I also have to mention the second male lead because he was one of the most interesting characters in the drama. He is morally gray, obsessive, emotionally damaged, and layered in a way that constantly makes you conflicted about him. The actor portrayed him brilliantly through subtle expressions and emotional restraint. I never truly saw him as a romantic rival, but I did understand his pain and motivations. His storyline added another emotional layer to the drama rather than simply serving as a love triangle.

One of the strongest aspects of Blossoming Love is its themes. Beneath all the fantasy elements, this drama constantly explores philosophical ideas about life, death, fate, love, obsession, trauma, and free will. Many characters are haunted by their inner demons, whether it is fear, hatred, guilt, or loneliness. The drama repeatedly questions whether fate is predetermined or if people truly have the power to change their destinies. It also explores how obsession and emotional projection can destroy both oneself and others.

The side stories were also surprisingly emotional. Some of the supporting romances and tragic backstories genuinely moved me just as much as the main plot. The world feels emotionally alive because every character carries their own pain and motivations.

Visually, the drama is stunning. The CGI is beautiful for a fantasy drama, especially compared to many recent productions, and the fight scenes are enhanced perfectly by the OST. The soundtrack deserves special praise because it elevates almost every emotional moment. Some scenes genuinely gave me chills because of how well the music, cinematography, and acting came together.

The acting overall was very strong, including the supporting cast and even the child actors. I especially loved the little girl who played A’Bao. There were very few moments that felt awkward or cringeworthy, which is honestly rare in xianxia dramas.

Of course, the drama is not perfect. The nonlinear storytelling can be confusing at first, and some viewers may struggle with the clingy behavior of the female lead in the earlier episodes before understanding the deeper context behind it. The final arc also slows down a little because of the amount of backstory and explanations needed to connect everything together. But personally, I appreciated that the drama took time to explain its mysteries properly rather than rushing through them.

Blossoming Love feels like a drama designed for rewatches. Once you know the truth behind the timelines, reincarnations, and character relationships, earlier scenes gain completely different meanings. It is the kind of story where every puzzle piece eventually fits together.

Overall, this drama gave me everything I love in fantasy romance: emotional storytelling, layered characters, philosophical themes, strong chemistry, beautiful visuals, tragic devotion, and a story that respects the audience enough to slowly unfold its mysteries instead of simplifying everything immediately.

A beautifully emotional fantasy drama about fate, sacrifice, and love across timelines that I will definitely revisit again someday.

A warm and soothing movie

A beautiful movie, in a very calm pace. It's about mutual respect and being able to make sacrifices for the sake of a child.
Also how to be honest about your feelings and your sexuality.

The movie had good visuals, it had only background music and that fitted the movie well.

The acting was very good and the mains had good chemistry and the kisses were good.
