Only watch if you like murder and mystery cases

Do not go into this expecting a love story. While I was excited to see Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue finally paired as the main couple, their relationship feels more like a partnership than a romantic one. The drama leans heavily into mystery, focusing on the female lead’s quest to uncover the truth behind her family’s murder years ago.

As a detective, she works through multiple cases along the way—some of which tie back to her personal story. About halfway through, I found myself blaming the emperor for a lot of the chaos, especially decisions involving the concubine and the musician who was so close to completing her tenure.

Although Unveiled Jade isn’t romance-heavy, it’s a solid pick if you enjoy detective and mystery dramas. It actually reminded me a lot of The Coroner’s Diary with its steady stream of cases. This isn’t usually my type of show—I started it for the cast—but I stayed for the storyline. For the first time in a while, I found myself genuinely invested, often wondering what I would do in the female lead’s situation.

The show also explores how the pursuit of truth can go too far—like opening a box that was never meant to be opened. At that point, it makes you question who is really to blame for everything that unfolds (and yes… the emperor still takes some of that blame), and what you would even report back to someone in power.

I’m giving it a 7.5/10 because it kept me hooked for most of the series. However, the final stretch lost some of its impact and I kept questioning how long is it going to take for her to take her revenge? The last four episodes was a waste of time.

THE BEST DRAMA OF 2025!!!

I would say, They would have kept the original title "Esquire" instead of "Beyond the bar". Never mind story, acting and the chemistry matters the most✌️.

First of all I wanna talk about "Lee Jin-wook". THE ACTOR HE IS!! I grown up watching his dramas since 2015. Watched almost all of his dramas. His acting is peaks and most of acting comes from his eyes. Like he smile through his eyes, do the romance through his eyes, he does everything with those eyes. And not every k-actor has such eyes. He's got soo much depth in his eyes. Coming to the acting?? He never disappointed me since "Nine time travels". That’s something he’s always been good at, whether it’s in Sweet Home, Bulgasal, or Voice 2 & 3. He adapts to every role so smoothly, and you can see the difference in each character he plays. His screen presence is strong but never forced, and that’s what makes him so captivating to watch. He doesn’t just act he makes you believe in the character completely.

Secondly, Jung Chae-Yeon. Honestly, her acting in "Family by choice" was not to the point but here in the "Beyond the bar" she aced it. she improved a lot and that surprised me. Ngl, hyeri wouldn't have done this better than chae-yeon. Everything happens for a reason.

Chemistry - To be honest, I honestly, doubted Lee Jin-wook and Chae Yeon as a pair. I wondered if they would be able to deliver the chemistry. And we all know how people are crazy about them right now(including me). Importantly, the age gap between them never feels noticeable in the way their relationship is portrayed. The narrative doesn’t emphasize it or make it a point of tension at all.

I am honestly pissed off people who made a fuss about their age gap and the romance. Damn...the 16 years age gap and 11yrs gap in drama is way very common in the entertainment industry. I understand those are the words for haters and doesn't make any sense. In the other countries I've seen young actresses acting with actors with 20 to 30yrs age gap. As long as both the leads are adults and if they are comfortable, there should not be a problem at all.

OST - When Hyo-min asked Seok-hoon - "what is love" and when he responded saying "Love is - .....". The OST "you make me home..." is still echoing in my ears. One of my favourite OST's with a perfect meaning.

I liked second leads, their roles and their chemistry soo much. Jin-woo and Min-jeong set an example to hyo-min and seok-hoon that age gap doesn't matter at all. Lee Hak-joo’s character has this calm, slightly playful vibe, while Jeon Hye-bin’s character comes across as confident, sharp, and expressive. When they interact, there’s a nice balance between teasing and sincerity. Their conversations don’t feel overly dramatic instead, they flow in a way that feels real and easy to watch.

In the drama, each episode’s legal cases aren’t just there for courtroom drama they’re used to reflect real-life situations that people can actually relate to. The stories often revolve around everyday conflicts like workplace issues, contracts, personal disputes, and moral dilemmas, rather than overly sensational or unrealistic crimes.

Episode - 4 : The most rewatched episode for me. The moment he punches the father who abused the child feels like a breaking point rather than something planned. It comes out of pure emotion, like he just couldn’t hold it in anymore after seeing the situation. What makes it powerful is that it doesn’t look like a “hero moment,” but more like a very human reaction to something deeply wrong. His bond with the child is shown in a quiet and natural way. He doesn’t suddenly become overly emotional or dramatic. You can feel that he genuinely empathizes with the child and wants to protect them, even without saying much. I will watch this episode for million times.

The story of Ex - Yoon Seok-hoon’s ex in the drama is portrayed in a way that clearly shows she made wrong choices in how she handled the relationship. Instead of communicating honestly and taking responsibility, her actions come across as self-centered and inconsiderate of his feelings. She seems to prioritize her own convenience and decisions without really thinking about the emotional impact it would have on him.she is written in a way that highlights her as someone who didn’t value the relationship properly, and her choices clearly paint her in a negative light compared to Seok-hoon’s more composed and sincere approach.

Overall, Beyond the Bar stands out as one of the most compelling dramas in recent times, with its thoughtful storytelling, strong performances, and realistic portrayal of legal and human relationships.

It truly feels like a production that deserves recognition, and it would be well deserving of a Baeksang Award for Lee Jin-wook’s performance, the direction, and the drama as a whole.

Nice

I dropped in on this drama on a whim, not really expecting much. So far, it's better than expected.

First and foremost is the outdoor cinematography. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful area.

Surprised by how many actors I already knew. Pleased to have found new ones to follow.

However, can anyone tell me why it's so difficult to find who plays Aiyixia? Forty-five minutes online searching and all I can find are very few entries and only in Chinese.

200 Pounds Beauty: 3/24/2026 ~ 3/25/2026

I only played this movie because it was free on YouTube and I was bored. Honestly, it's a decently good movie and was really interesting to watch if you ignore the whole body shamming thing. Though you can't really because that is the whole plot. I do got to give the points though for not having the FL end up with the ML but instead letting her grow on her which I guess is good. I also I like how she owns up to everything she had done and becomes truer to herself.

Highly Recommended......

I had never heard of the book so I cannot comment on how it translated over onto the screen. But from watching other Chinese series like this in the past, I would say by far this has been the best for me and so much so I would watch it again.

Warning it is 40eps long and each ep is at least 38 minute's long. But trust me you will be hooked if you like this kind of genre. Tian Xi Wei's endearing personality that she brings to the charcater just draws you in. The whole series from the cast, the fx and the scale of the production is brilliant.

Tian Xi Wei (Fan Chang Yu) & Zhang Ling He ( Xie Zheng/Marquis Wu'an/Yan Zheng/ 'Xie Jiu Heng') play brilliantly alongside each other and the chemistry is what you expect of accomplished actors/actresses. Even with the very many supporting cast, I would say all of them did exceptional. Even myself who is usually into watching GLs (girls love) series was rooting for them to make it as a couple.

It has all the usual twist, turns and stabs in the back of a story based on Emperors and wars but with some twists added in.

I really hope for a season 2 but for my understanding I dont think there will be. For one there is only one book that I know of that is about this story. Which is a pity.

I will be looking for more series with Tian Xi Wei in because she was that good and it helps she is a very beautiful young woman on top of being a very talented young woman. Not every actress or actor can say a whole sentence with just the expression in their eyes and if you watch this series, you will know what I mean by that because it happens frequently throughout.

Final comments are dont let the 40 episodes put you off because each one ends with you wanting more and more.

Messy, chaotic… but it worked

This drama was honestly all over the place, but it worked for me. The storyline had some really interesting ideas, mixed with moments that were fine and others that didn’t fully make sense, but overall it was still engaging. The editing was sometimes confusing, which didn’t help with the already messy structure, but I just went along with it. It’s one of those dramas you don’t overanalyze, you just take it as it is. The chemistry between the leads? Insane. That alone carried so much of the story. The acting wasn’t always consistent, but it didn’t bother me enough to ruin the experience. In the end, it felt like a refreshing "KBL" after a long time, imperfect, a bit chaotic, but still interesting.

not too bad and not that good

it was really entertaining in the beginning and I really liked it but when it got to like eps 6 it started becoming to boring to me. character like sejin( the female student) was annoying the hell out of me, SL was so useless and doesn’t even feel like SL. visuals was mid except the FL she was really pretty. ML was okay and funny I guess. the ending feelt rushed and I felt like it could have gone deeper with the FL traumatic past. The twins were funny some side characters were just there for the sake of side characters. Even when they were kissing and having romantic skinship I was fast forwarding even though that is what I like the most and was not entertained. the skip button was my favourite part from eps 8. But overall it was not too bad and okay.

This movie was really good; I love the whole concept of it. The movie in itself was really unique and the way it was done was perfect. I like how you are confused at times, but things get explained as you watch, like I don't think there were any major plot holes which was amazing. I also love the little side romance plot and watching the friendships develop. Lastly, the cliffhanger was so good and made me immediately watch the second movie.

I love this movie so much, the plot was a little corny, but it was still amazing. I love the main character in this as well he may have been flawed but he was loyal none the less. I do got to admit the side characters pissed me off but they did redeem them self, I guess. Also, that ending fight scene was 100/10 I loved everything about it. I honestly would love to see a third movie, following this story and the first movie because there is still much I want to know.

Fluffy, Cute romance

Fluffy, cute, how dumb and dumber learn how a relationship should be as it's their first.
The storyline just typical boring chinese campus lovestory, but tianxiwei cuteness and the light romance-comedy scenes just makes me want to rewatch it more and more 🥹🥰
i think WXY's acting here felt a bit stiff but still acceptable with their well pairing couple, great chemistry. I forget about their age gap in real life. TXW is 5 years older than him btw 😭
For the OST, I LOVE the OST SO MUCH!! I put them in my daily chinese ost which give u butterflies everytime u listen to them 🤍✨️🦋

I was honestly really surprised by how much I liked this movie. The main character is such a bad ass like it's really cool, I also like how that doesn't stop her from being a good mother in a sense. Also, I love how the plot is very fast paced, usually I would hate that in a movie, but it works really well for this. My favorite part is the ending when everything starts going down, it was so cool to see. Lastly, I love how good the fight scenes were, a little dramatic but still amazing.

Editing and acting needed a bit work

Overall i loved the show. It had a strong story and a pretty good cast. The thai influence was pretty obvious with the NC scenes. This was my 1st time watching NCs in KBL. I really liked everything about this show except some cuts that just felt too abrupt. At times i couldn't tell if it was the current timeline or past cz their styling hasn't changed at all. If they didn't wear their uniforms i couldn't tell.

Ja Woon's acting was really good but Jun Su kinda missed at times. His crying scenes were really good but then acting coy, first love and such kind of romance related scenes he seemed off but then when it came to NC he did a good job.

Thats the reason it's an 8.5

So underrated!!

I absolutely LOVE this drama and I think everyone should watch it! It's such a high quality gl compared to the fact that women always get the short end of the stick. The story is so interesting and the leads are not only great at acting but they're also drop dead gorgeous!!!!! I don't understand why this isn't more popular it's a 10/10 for me. I felt so many emotions while watching this as well as Reverse 4 You (which I also think everyone should watch at least once in their lives). Open your eyes and heart to this series and you will fall in love with the characters. Oh how I wish I could watch this series for the first time again. I'm so jealous of those who are about to watch it for the first time.

The OSTs for this series are also no joke some of my favourite songs, I listen to them all the time.

You will not regret watching this series and if you do then that's a you problem.

Nothing special

The story could have been interesting but somehow its very blant and really nothing new. Another show that caters to a certain group of viewers. The entire senses storyline could have been interesting but its just really weird. Its supposed to be a major part of the story but the executing is sloppy and dragged out. Please stop making 40 ep dramas when you have to fill it with nonsense to meet the episode mark!!!

The acting is okay on all fronts - not good but also not bad. Sometimes they made me cringe but I guess thats the poor writing.

The writing..... I know its based on a novel but damn do they only have the overly powerful FL and bootlicking ML novels left?
Can we for once have a normal show with equals? The ML insantly falling for the FL for no reason at all is overdone and stupid.

The characters are very bland - FL doing nothing and sometimes interfering with stuff but at the end of the day it really doesnt matter if she is there or not.
ML starting off as a strong character but turns smitten and kinda dumb really quick.

Cinematography and sets....... the "outside" sets are so bad like the graveyard.... you could tell those stones are styrofoam and everything looked so fake and plastic.

CGI is very special in this one either its off the charts good or so bad that it is actually ridiculous. FL entrance in ep 1 with the Jellyfish looked like high quality but everything after that was laughable - her doing magic looked like a shitty version of elsa but the worst part are the broom scenes - you can literally tell where the ropes are attached in every shot. And they didnt even felt the need to blend it with the background. Literally looks like she is sitting infront of a picture.....

Also that type of makeup doesnt really suit Reba. But in all her recent shows she has locked off. Doesnt look like the Reba I swooned for.

Lastly even tho I watched 10 episodes the chemistry was only okay and not that great. For some reason they dont look very good together. The entire thing isnt romantic at all - this weird ass toxic tsundere type of shit needs to stop.

Honestly, one of the best family K-dramas. And trust me, I’ve watched a looooot of this genre.
Starting with the story—it was so good. I really liked the fact that, unlike other dramas, they didn’t drag out the “secret daughter” reveal. It was introduced quickly, and the story moved on smoothly.
I loved the chemistry between the main leads. They were so lovely, real, and intense.
I also loved both families—even the villains. You can understand them; even though their actions are wrong, you can clearly see their character development.
The depression/suicide arc was very well done and quite innovative. It’s rare to see a mental health storyline handled this well in a K-drama.
Unlike the majority, I actually liked the ending.
The second lead couple felt a bit off to me, especially the SML, but I got used to it over time.
The acting was overall really good. The Excellence Award definitely goes to Shin Hae-sun—I love her. But the main male lead, her parents, and her cute twin all did a great job too. The only one who was really lacking was the SML.
I highly recommend it. ✨
