Sweet little no brainer
The story centres round a country lad (Geum)who moves to the big city in search of fame and fortune only to find that the accommodation his grandfather booked was a scam. After a night on the streets he goes in search of a job and ends up not only employed but involved with a weird man-child (Bi Hyeong) who takes him home with him.As the plot unfolds we find out that Bi Hyeong is a master-less goblin who has spent the last 1000 years searching for his master and I will admit that when we get the back story and work out what really happened I did have an ‘awwww’ moment!
We are also introduced to a goblin who was once a stone (Gil Dal) a tricky promiscuous fox (Ji Gwi), a goddess (SamSin) and a bad guy (or is he? It’s never made completely clear what he’s all about).
It’s a cute little story with a very simple plot and if you’re looking for some very shallow, harmless fun to kill some time then this might be a good drama to consider.
Would I watch it again? No

Laid the ground work only to let you down
First let me say that I think if this this show had maybe another 10 episodes it wouldve been one of my favorite dramas. The leads were gorgeous, the cinematography was stunning, the overalk mystery/intrigue surrounding what happened in the past was laid out so well… but the ending was so unsatisfying.
The two leads eventually getting together was minimal. After many amazing action scenes with the FL, she wasnt even that big of a part of the final fight, nor did that fight FEEL intense. It felt subpar from the other battles shown in the show.
The resolution of what happened in the past was a really good story, but because it was only shown through flashbacks with no scenes showing the intense struggle of the leads to accept the injustices that happened, it felt emotionally disconnected.
Still a good watch, and all the cast did an amazing job, but I wish the plot had been better condensed in the 40 episodes.

i expected WAY MOREEEEE tbh
The start🗯️🗯️
After watching some modern Chinese drama I wanted to go back to my first love "chinese costume" drama and this looked like a perfect fit.
it looked like a dark, heavy military, political war drama...oh boy way I way off
Well, I guess I have to find something else to scratch that itch of mine.
This drama is not a "bad - bad drama". Believe me, after more than 200 shows I saw with my own eyes what "bad" looks like, on the other hand I also saw wayyyy better.
To sum it up with a few words: this drama is a nice collage of many other dramas without their more heavy emotional sides.
Did I feel bored? sometimes
Did I feel excited? Not even once.
Did a share I tear? A laugh? Certainly not.
Nice to watch but devoided of emotions.
SHOULD YOU WATCH IT? If you don't really care about expectations and just wanna see a nice story , sure go ahead. Especially if you like the genre
If you are looking for excitement? Look somewhere else.
-–---------_----------------------------
I'll give you my opinion and only if you feel brave enough I invite you to read my rant🤣
The review section is the only place I can talk about these things.
...OK LETS START😁😁😁😁
I know I'll be pedantic but the more I watched the drama the more disengaged I became. I don't care about "fantastical" dramas. I'm fine with fighting scene that don't makes sense, but inconsistency with plot , logic and characters make me side eye a drama.
Drama🗯️🗯️
FL:(actress)
I saw her before in "back from the brink" and tbh I wasn't impressed. In this drama I think she did a bit better but her acting is "emotionless". I guess that's her style of acting.
FL: (character)
I like her strength, resilience and determination. Also her sweet side is enjoyable but I also find her to be dumb and unrealistic. ( RANT BEGINS 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻)
The setting reminds me of Mulan. A group of antagonistic comrades that become besties after sharing the danger, The bathing in disguise etc, even though I feel Mulan was more realistic. She was risking getting caught left and right, our FL is always safe. We don't see her struggle to conceive her identity. Menstruation? Chest binding? Toilet? Washing? They skip all of it.
When the FL gets replaced by her brother nobody is suspicious. Really? You don't see a difference in height? Voice? Size? The general appears with. No mask after a whole life hiding his face. No questions asked?
They could have chosen a more androgynous actora as her brother.
Putting appearance aside, how will their skill looked compared to one another? She won countless battles, he probably trained by himself.
Her character is supposed to be a simple soldier but she talks to her general like it's her sugar daddy. That's insane. You wouldn't talk to your general like that especially when they not close yet.
She keeps revealing her identity left and right never being too cautios. I don't get it. If the word of a female general gets out, sooner or later your brother will hear about it. Aren't you worried ?
I also find it weird that she never thinks about the fact that the general believe she basically killed his Father.
ML:
(Actor) I find him quite good. I just saw his works in "how dare you" and he does a pretty solid job in these costume dramas. No complaints.
(Characters) I feel compared to the FL character he makes more sense and is more linear.
Other characters:🗯️🗯️
The actors ( like them all, they all professionals).
Characters:
I feel no emotional connection to the characters. We are supposed to care about these people and even cry about their death but I didn't feel anything. The shifu, other soldiers, the princess , the school mates... I feel we didn't have enough interactions on screen to really care.
OBSERVATIONS WHILE WATCHING 🗯️🗯️
A weird combination of emotions. In one scene the FL is hurt and hugging a dead wolf and she immediately starts talking about love and valentine. What?😅 And tha6t not the only time they force "serious" speeches in the most insane moments.
The drama itself feels like a collage of previous shows. I could even pinpoint what specific scene was from where.
There is a lot of romance subplot we don't care about. The Chifu love story with the princess, their old classmate with the dancer, chu with the prime Mister daughter...
Fight scenes🗯️🗯️
pretty unrealistic but that's a perk of this specific genre.
Inconsistency 🗯️🗯️
I am at episode 22 and I don't even know what these people want.
Ok the ml wants his father's reputation to be restored but about the FL? She never talks about killing her brother or punishing her family. She just want to be a general. Ok, what does it mean? You want to go back to the capital? Work for the emperor?
The prime minister also has no clear direction. He wants every general to be gone but it seems he doesn't have anyone to replace them. I don't even know why he wants that. They never show us the emperor court. We don't know about any power plays except for the prime minister.
He s also colluded with a foreign country.🤷🏻
The prime minister pupil knows his master is a corrupted individual but he's willing to help him any way only second guessing his master when the prime minister "goes too far".
The Chifu dies in a very stupid way. He basically found out where the rebels came from and he didn't call anyone to help him. He fights dozens of warrior and dies.
We never see what is happening in the capital.
Ep 23. Too convenient girl that you start investigating after the general found out about your identity. Shouldn't you have started as soon as you left the temple?
Ep 23. I knew it!! Her brother heard about a female general!!!!
Cheese factor🗯️🗯️
Some scenes are so cheese.
After a battle the FL falls into a puddle of water deep 2 cm at best and they show us a scene where she is basically drowning 🤣🤣after ml saves her the camera shows us the most shallow water ever.
Ml asking the princess to keep fl identity a secret is hilarious. She s been going left and right talking about feminism. Everyone knows her face and these are wealthy people well connected to other officials and Nobles. Word will spread pretty fast.
The Xiao General revenge was so dumm. You send kids to die ever single day . Your son dying is a trap?
I just finished episode 22 and I m fine stopping here.
There is nothing holding me in place. Maybe I'll come back later...but I feel I am not missing out on anything exciting.

Why Change a Perfect Ending?
I really enjoyed this drama, especially its emotional story and character development. The journey of the female lead was meaningful, and seeing her grow stronger made everything more engaging.Hong Ye was also a standout character, not only for his depth but also for his striking and captivating presence on screen.
However, I didn’t like the ending. The drama made it feel unclear and a bit tragic, which was disappointing.
In the original story, she doesn’t give up. She trains, becomes stronger, and eventually finds her way back to Hong Ye, choosing to stay with him forever in that dimension.
This version feels much more complete and satisfying. I really wish the drama had followed the original ending.

the description is a mislead & wrong - skip it -
i don't think the supernatural tag fits this movie, this more a psychological mystery, thriller. even though i get that the premise where a family member sacrifice's themselves for a sick loved one & after the sacrifice, their loved one miraculously heals/recovers - there is something very supernatural about that & yet it isn't supernatural in the line of Exhuma or The Priests, where there is an other worldly entity - the battle of good vs evil is very clear.. this just felt like a mind-f*ck, people that r brain washed into cults out of desperation, that can be contagious. a desperation that would drive them to commit evil deeds, to be exploited, deluding themselves into thinking they r doing it for a greater good or that it was some kind of sacrifice - an offering to God, like the one that was asked of Abraham from the bible.having said this, i feel like i need to watch this a couple more times - cause after one watch i am confused at parts & feel like info in missing at others. also given the fact that Ju Yeong was still investigating the club members of the cult, it felt like an open end.
the acting was good & i was hooked after the scene of the confession, but as i feel like a lot went over my head i don't wanna add more... as it might be a wrong assumption on my part. maybe after a few more watches & getting a better hold of things i will edit this review.
bottom line - i enjoyed this (in spite of what i wrote above) & will happily rewatch when i get a chance, great acting & interesting plot.

THE FRIENDS OF FEI KE is a FLAWLESS MASTERPIECE
Read my other reviews. Watch me tear apart bad writing, editing, pacing -- you name it -- I take no prisoners. MEET YOURSELF? Boring cotton candy. JOY OF LIFE? The only funny thing about it is that it thinks its so funny.REGENERATION is a flawless masterpiece. It ties with TO THE WONDER as the best C-Drama I've ever seen, even though both are very short series -- which is likely why they're so good.
RUYI'S ROYAL LOVE IN THE PALACE and IMPERFECT VICTIM are both excellent, as is SHE AND HER GIRLS -- but REGENERATION is another notch above these critically acclaimed legends.
I'm not going to spoil any plot details at all -- but only share it's a great drama in the storytelling mode of America's LOST TV series. Except better. Way better.
The ML Jing Bo Ran was new to me. I believe I've finally found a ML in Wallace Huo's level, which means I'll likely watch anything he is in going forward. This is a star's star. I knew Zhou Yi Ran from the other best series I've ever seen -- TO THE WONDER -- and although her role was small it was tricky to play and she nailed it. I'll now watch anything she's in.
The rest of the cast was terrific. Everything else about the production was flawless. I'll eyeball the director from now on.
I have a few nitpicky things to say, but before I do -- ignore all other reviews not giving this a straight 10. I've read two reviews here, they say everything was great -- but then mysteriously give it an 8.5. WTF?!? Seriously: ignore them.
Nitpicky --
1. Disliked the title. AI informs that Regeneration has a different meaning in China, regarding being 'reborn' and being a Freshman in college. (Something like that.) But AI said my title for this series more matched the title of the original book, and so I'll call it THE FRIENDS OF FEI KE.
2. In Episode 7 we learn that... how to say this without spoiling... that we haven't been given the complete truth? This moment is jarring, because it makes you want to rewatch the series up to that point to learn if this revelation... worked. I had a mild anxiety that they 'cheated' somehow.
3. It did find one flaw, but it's so tiny as to be forgettable. Still, I'd pull the posted episode and correct it, so that it could truly be flawless. At the end of Episode 8, eyes meet between two of our characters in a very moving way. At the top of Episode 9, they recreate that same moment to pull us back into the story, but they edited it differently and it's no longer the same. And the difference is jarring. An editing mistake.

A Thought Provoking Dark Crime Thriller About The Struggle And Cost of Justice
This drama started a bit slow but as it moves past that and sets the story, the story gets really heavy. The screenplay was just brilliant. This is probably the smoothest transition between the 3 cases and their timelines I have ever seen in a drama. It managed to maintain its suspense right till the end and kept me hooked throughout the series. The best part of this drama is the ensemble cast, and my god, they were absolutely brilliant. It manages to force the viewers to think about what is the cost of justice. It was a very dark and emotional price of drama. Everyone did a great job. Overall, an absolutely brilliant crime drama and one of the best I have ever watched. Was this review helpful to you?

Loses a lot in translation. Literally
Each episode of this mini series is only a few minutes long so it won’t take long to watch, thankfully. The story centres around two men who graduate from the same intake of trainee police officers. One stays on the right side of the law and the other ends up working for his foster (?) father who is a drug lord. One scene sums up this whole drama- the police captain congratulates the good cop for a drug bust that pulls a whopping 3 kilos of cocaine off the streets.
The lead actors’ chemistry in terms of the kiss scenes and between the sheets is of bodice ripping proportions but quite frankly the rest is all a bit rubbish and I think it was only about 30 minutes in that I realised they were working for the same side.
I watched with subtitles and I suspected early that they were translated by someone not particularly fluent in English however by the end I was starting to suspect they weren’t that good in Korean either as parts of the dialogue made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Would I watch again? Absolutely not even though the leads were pretty on the eye

So cuteeee
Actually it was the song blue by yung kai that brought me to watch this series, it was so overrated. I tried to watch it the first time something in me didn't clicked so I dropped it without even finishing episode 1. I think it was probably one year later and we have a long break from school so I need something to watch to make myself entertain during the break that's why I give this series an another try. Little did I know that that is one of the BEST decision I have ever made. It's been a long time since I got hooked with a C-Drama, everything is so perfect and cute. This series has been my happy pill the entire time I'm watching it.Was this review helpful to you?
Boring and monotoom actors
A lot of the male voices were in the same ghostly euh euh voices. Its fine if it's one, but a couple so soon, it will be annonying. The start of the series is incredible weak, no expanded why and how, just a short this and this. Great cast, incredible subpar acting. ML monotoom acting, no sense of anger in either the events for e1 or e2.Good music, just misplaced at times.

WAS GOOD BUT KIND OF BORING
To be honest, the plot was actually quite good. It effectively showed how blackmail can seriously affect people’s lives, especially those who have experienced it firsthand. That aspect of the story felt meaningful and relevant, which I appreciated. However, there were moments where the pacing didn’t work well. Some episodes felt unnecessary, almost like they were just added to stretch the story longer than it needed to be. I don’t really understand why it had to reach 13 episodes, because the main storyline could have been delivered in fewer episodes without losing its impact. The first few episodes already showed some of the couples developing feelings, it started to feel dragged out, and some parts became a bit boring.
I was also a bit confused about how the Sea and Lanee developed their feelings for each other so quickly. It felt rushed and lacked enough buildup, making it harder to fully understand or connect with their relationship.
As for the acting, there were moments that felt a bit cringe or awkward, with some scenes being hard to watch. Still, despite those flaws, the overall performance was decent and showed potential.
Also, I’d love to see more of Atom and Domon—their chemistry stood out to me, and they definitely deserve more screen time bc i enjoyed their chemistry than the main MC's

Okay, so...
The Heart Killers startefd off STRONG. I love the idea since it's based on "The Taming of the Shrew" which is a good story, and I also love BLs, so I wacthed this with a high bar.It had comedy, romance, angst (which I am a sucker for) and also some wholesome moments. I honestly really loved seeing Style going after Fadel. It was pretty much the biggest reason why I kept watching.
I thought this for a while but Dunk's acting is stiff. When I first saw him, I didn't notice. But after seeing Hidden Agenda and then rewatching Star in My Mind it was kind of shocking. The Heart Killers only made me think it more. I'm not saying he's a bad actor as I've seen worse, but he should relax a little more. Maybe even study different face expressions?
Joong and Khao did well, and I liked their characters.
First also did well but his character was a little annoying, and narcissistic in a way.
The series itself is quite nice and I thought that it was going to go smoothly after they exposed Lilly, but the second half of episode 12 was kind of disappointing. That whole "dinner with mom" part was such a turn off. Was it really necessary? No. It actually would have been a lot better without it, as if Lilly never got out of prison. It was too dramatic and so out of place. I'm saying this as someone who wants to study film, but having the antagonist come back with such a dramatic revenge plan to just fail in such a weird way is not a good thing to add in a final episode, especially if it's less than 10 minutes.
Also, the fighting scenes looked so odd as you can see how much enthusiastic they WEREN'T. At least try to look like you're trying.
OK! Regardless of those, the series is really good.

Oof. I haven't been this boiled over a show in a while lol.
I always base my reviews on how a show has made me feel. I'm not clever enough to delve into the intricacies of the deeper meaning of plots, dialogue etc. I go on vibes only, so my review is solely that - and no other reason. The first two episodes were so lovely and cosy, I was having a great time walking the line with the two male leads - it definitely would have been a 9 star show. And then episodes 3 and 4 came along and made me hate-rage like I haven't hate-raged a show in a while. The snap decision Akira made, after spending all those years with Nishi was such a bad plot move. Whew. Akira, you're now on my hated characters list lol. (Nisha, you're a total sweetheart and deserved better - my five stars are for him and the first two eps only) This plotline was my idea of hell - I admit I'm not a fan of these kind of breakups and long separations when other people are involved, so I know I'm the wrong demographic (again, this is only my opinion) and had I read reviews before watching, I would have swerved this show.
I'm more vexed that we didn't see sweet raggedy-haired Nishi during those 8 years. How did he live? Did he achieve his goals? did he find other relationships? He forgave Akira too easily, and had the show added a fifth episode better fix what he'd broken, I might have been on board for a reconciliation instead of been left feeling empty and mad. lol.
I will end on a positive. The acting was stellar!! I loved both actors portrayal of their characters and would love to watch more of their shows.

Not a Drama for strong men
The main reason that I gave this TV series a 5 out of 10 is that the main male character is too passive and is just pathetic. How can a man respect a guy who still has feelings for a woman who dumped him so coldly and cruelly? Why has he not got a girl friend in 10 years? Does he have low testosterone? He seems like a guy who is lost and sad. The female lead is good, but she is just a bit pathetic too in that she has not married and is now 30 years old with a job that does not pay much. It would have been better if both leads had had bad relationships and had given up finding someone special and then found each other again. It is sad how many TV shows in Korea and in the West have weak male leads. Was this review helpful to you?

Best Costume Drama of 2026 So Far!
I think this may be the best chinese drama in 2026 so far. it's got visual, good storyline and pace, in depth characters etc.Okay, now that I’ve said it, I really mean it.
Pursuit of Jade feels like one of those rare dramas where everything just clicks. The cinematography is stunning without trying too hard, the pacing never drags (which is honestly a miracle these days), and the story unfolds in a way that keeps you emotionally invested from beginning to end. But what truly elevates it is the characters, how they're layered, flawed, and incredibly human.
Fan Changyu, was just wow… she completely stole my heart. Changyu is the definition of resilience. She’s strong not just physically, but mentally in a way that feels so grounded and real. Despite growing up and being treated like an outsider in her own town, she never let bitterness consume her. Instead, she remained kind, genuinely kind. Not naive, not overly forgiving to the point of being unrealistic, but someone who chooses compassion even when it would be easier not to. What I love most about her is how deeply she loves. Whether it’s her family or even people who have wronged her, she gives chances, not because they deserve it, but because she chooses to. There’s something so admirable and honestly adorable about that. She’s soft without being weak, and strong without losing her warmth. That balance is so hard to write, but they nailed it.
And then we have Yan Zheng / Xie Zheng… this man is down horrendous for Changyu and I love every second of it. He didn’t just fall in love, he committed in a way that feels both intense and comforting. He accepted everything about her: her kindness, her family, her circumstances. He married her at her request. He helped her keep her land deed. He went out of his way to bring, Chang Ning, back. Like… the man said “I’m all in” and never looked back. Honestly, it’s like he fell in love and just never got back up, lol. He just kept falling deeper and deeper. And if we’re being real? If he didn’t have such a strong moral compass, he could’ve easily tipped into the obsessive/possessive trope. But instead, he channels all that intensity into unwavering support, which makes him even more attractive as a character.
Now...speaking of obsessive and possessive…
The second couple, Yu Qianqian and Qi Min? I’m obsessed with them, and I mean that in the most painful way possible. They are doomed, and you can feel it from miles away. Qi Min is, objectively, terrible. Like...god awful. There’s barely any kindness in him, and the things he does to keep Qianqian by his side are genuinely horrifying. And yet… he’s written with so much depth that you can’t fully hate him. There are moments where you almost—almost—feel sorry for him. That’s what makes him so compelling. Qianqian, on the other hand, is living an actual nightmare. She’s constantly told she’s loved, but in reality, she’s more of a hostage than a partner. It’s suffocating to watch, and you just want her to break free. Their relationship is intense, toxic, and emotionally exhausting but in a way that feels purposeful, not gratuitous.
And here’s the thing I didn’t expect to admit: Qi Min’s love for Qianqian was real. Twisted? Yes. Damaging? Absolutely. But real. It’s probably the only genuine goodness in him. He just never learned how to love properly plus the fact that he's out for revenge and power., so it came out warped and destructive. That contrast between sincerity and cruelty is what makes their story hit so hard.
And I have to talk about Sui Yuan Qing because he was such a wild but fascinating addition to the story. He honestly feels like an echo of Qi Min, same darkness, same hatred but stripped of that one redeeming quality: love. There was seriously something off about him mentally, and the way he carried himself made that very clear. At one point, I genuinely thought he might be a masochist with how much he seemed to enjoy getting slapped by Changyu… like sir, what is going on in your head??But even then, the drama doesn’t make him one dimensional. Toward the end, I actually felt a bit of pity for him. It starts to feel like, deep down, he just wanted a place to belong, something to call his own after spending his life fighting for others. And his admiration for his older brother, Qi Min, felt real enough to humanize him just a little. Not enough to excuse him, but enough to make you pause.
Then we get a breather with the third couple: Gongsun Yin and Qi Shu, and they were honestly so adorable. There’s something so soft yet tragic about them being almost "forbidden lovers". The whole “we can’t be together because of our class” trope hits harder here because it makes sense, him being the Headmaster of Liu Yuan Academy of Heijian and her being THE Grand Princess. The tension is subtle but constant, and every interaction feels like it’s balancing between duty and desire. It’s quiet, restrained, and really beautifully done. I'm glad things worked out for them.
And of course, no general-themed drama is complete without a chaotic, lovable squad and Pursuit of Jade gave us the Pig Butcher Squad. They were such a standout. Watching them go from thieves/bandits who were against Changyu to becoming her closest comrades was so satisfying. Their dynamic brought so much warmth and humor to the story, and you could really feel that found-family energy. They’re loud, messy, fiercely loyal and honestly just freaking adorable.
Overall, this drama just gets characters. Whether it’s love that heals, love that consumes, or the desperate need to belong, every arc feels intentional and impactful. It gives you softness, tragedy, chaos, and growth all in one and somehow balances it beautifully.
I’m still not over it, and I don’t think I will be anytime soon.
