Be prepared to laugh, cry, and fall in love with the characters.

Love in the Moonlight is one of the most beautiful historical Korean dramas I have ever watched. From the very first episode, I was drawn into its charming story, lovable characters, and emotional moments. It made me laugh, cry, and become deeply attached to everyone, especially the main couple. By the end of the drama, I had cried so much because of everything the characters went through.

One of the strongest aspects of this drama is the romance. The chemistry between Crown Prince Lee Yeong and Hong Ra-on is incredible. Their relationship feels natural, sweet, and heartfelt. Every scene they shared was enjoyable to watch, and I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning. Park Bo-gum gave an outstanding performance as the Crown Prince. He perfectly balanced confidence, humor, intelligence, and vulnerability, making his character unforgettable. Kim Yoo-jung was also wonderful as Ra-on, bringing warmth, kindness, and strength to her role.

The cinematography, costumes, and soundtrack were all beautiful. Every scene looked elegant, and the traditional setting made the story even more captivating. The emotional background music matched every important moment perfectly, making the happy scenes feel even sweeter and the sad scenes even more heartbreaking.

The story itself is full of suspense, political conflicts, emotional sacrifices, and touching friendships. There were many moments that made me nervous because I was afraid something terrible would happen to the characters I loved. The drama kept me emotionally invested until the very end. Although there were heartbreaking moments and painful sacrifices, I was very satisfied with the ending because the main couple finally received the happiness they deserved.

If I had to mention one flaw, it would be the development of the romance. Even though I absolutely loved the couple, I felt that the story spent too much time focusing on political conflicts during the second half of the drama. Because of that, I wish we could have seen more scenes of Lee Yeong and Ra-on simply enjoying their relationship together. After waiting so long for them to overcome every obstacle, I wanted more romantic moments before the story ended.

Even with this small criticism, Love in the Moonlight is still an unforgettable drama. It made me experience so many emotions and left a lasting impression on me. It is romantic, emotional, beautifully filmed, and filled with memorable characters. I laughed, cried, worried, and smiled throughout the entire journey.

Overall, I would give this drama 9.5 out of 10. It is an amazing historical romance with an excellent cast, a touching story, and a satisfying ending. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical dramas, heartfelt romance, and emotional storytelling. It is definitely one of the best historical K-dramas I have ever seen.

No sé si....

No sé si no estaba preparada para este drama, si no entendí su propósito o si definitivamente es algo tóxico que no se pasa ni con agua.

EL ROMANCE

Recuerdo que vi este drama con las expectativas de un romance hermoso, tierno y lleno de acciones bonitas entre ellos, pero encontrarme con sufrimiento, malos tratos y peleas lo único que me hizo pensar fue: Esto es tóxico, no puedo. Es que me dices en el título Incontrolablemente enamorados y parece que lo único que no pueden controlar es el desprecio el uno por el otro, o las ganas de pelear.


Pero, analizando con el tiempo, me puse a pensar si realmente es tóxico o si es mejor verlo con otro lente: como una relación romántica más real y llena de fracturas, para reflexionar y aprender. Con personajes inestables y con heridas profundas que, tanto al final, pudieron hacer las paces y estar en tranquilidad.

A la conclusión a la que llegué es que, ya que lo vi hace algunos años y no tengo ganas de reverlo, me permito tener esta opinión dividida entre lo que mi yo del pasado y el del presente.

EL DRAMA y los otros temas...

Por otra parte, esto no es solo romance, sino que también trata un tema de fuerte injusticia desde el pasado que tiene mucho peso en el desarrollo de la relación de nuestros personajes. Básicamente, este drama nos muestra la corrupción, cómo tapan las cosas por dinero y cómo hay otros que intentan hacer justicia, como nuestra chica protagonista que siempre intenta sacar la verdad a la luz. La verdad es que esta otra parte de la serie, más llevada a los temas legales, de justicia y periodismo, me pareció interesante, triste pero me dio esperanzas. Así que, por este lado, sí fue un desarrollo que pude visualizar sin quejas.

This show did well. I liked that it only had 1 focus for the audience, the main cast, learning to deal with feelings and growth going forward. They chose the characters that they wanted us to see and care for, which enabled us to really feel their journey. This was too short and too emotional to throw in unnecessary characters and plot points. As a mother ... it was heartbreaking. I won't speak on it anymore, other than to say, there are many different endings, and this is just one of them, to portray it in this way ... they did well.

Weird Storyline but Great Action

So demons from all over the world (or maybe only in korean peninsula?) are all being squared up and confined in a place called Tamra in Jeju Island, and Wonjeong is supposed to be the saviour of all mankind who creates the seal and barrier that keeps them in a hole, all chained up underground. But before she trained herself up to build the barrier, monks of that time made it a practice to create demon slayers from small boys by pouring the lust demon’s blood into their spine. Of all boys, only two survived the grueling and cruel process to became half demons, Van and Gungtan. Theyre supposed to kill lust demons to keep humans safe with the demon superpower that they possess, problem is it was not a choice they made. Apparently, Van eventually killed Wonjeong but she managed to seal all demons underground, all but Van. Hundreds (or thousands?) years later, the barrier starts to crack and some lust demons escape. Van made it a mission to hunt every one of them until Wonjeong’s reincarnation awakens her memory and powers to reseal the demons again. Won Mi Ho is the reincarnated Wonjeong, the only daughter of a business moghul in Korea. As she is becoming a target for lust demons upon her arrival in Jeju, Van inadvertently came to be hired as her bodyguard, awaiting for her to fulfill the promise she made to him and atoning himself for accidentally killing her back then.

Well the story is pretty straightforward but not without considerable plotholes. Like how did all demons gets sealed except for Van, and the fact that how the heck would Wonjeong really make her promise to free Van and Gungtan come true while doing her job, when the seal itself would also seal them off? She has no knowledge let alone strategy to accomplish this, so it is basically an empty promise. What’s even more confusing, why would the barrier breaking up also weaken Van when Gungtan gets all powerful instead? It just doesnt add up. That little side story of Priest Johan the SML also doesnt add anything to the original plot but mere embellishment of the pretty boy cast since the ML isnt one. I just don’t get his function in the story other than adding more sob childhood as if Van’s and Gungtan’s aren’t enough already. SML is also not powerful at all to keep any of the demons at bay so I really don’t get why his role existed.

The ML is a broody, gloomy character, i mean who isnt with that kind of background and bleak future he has? But I like him anyway, and I like it when he doesnt react to Won Miho’s and Johan’s provocations. Won Miho is okay, she came off like a tough girl in the first 10 minutes of episode 1, but turned into just another damsel-in-distress awaiting for rescue for the rest of the show. I mean yeah her role isnt supposed to be fighting off anything, she’s only responsible for the sealing job so that explains all the screaming and shrieking and panicking whenever the demons tracked her down.

They try to make Gungtan’s role all that mysterious with the group of cultish followers behind him, i guess that will only be explained in season 2. But honestly it just created another “huh” moment for me, exactly like Priest Johan’s role that came from a monastery so far away in Italy to supposedly protect Won Miho (but he failed miserably at it).

I like the action here, all that superpowers being handed out in a platter for me to savour. The demon CGI and makeup is also seamless, especially that transformation on Van and Gungtan. Well done.

Un atractivo cliché Jefe-Secretaria

Recuerdo este drama con cariño porque fue mi primera romcom de oficina, y estaba adentrándome en este mundo de los dramas coreanos: entender su humor, la manera en que crean a sus personajes, las escenas románticas y ese cliché de jefe y secretaria. Todo eso fue para mí una experiencia nueva y afortunadamente agradable. Por eso es que este drama me da nostalgia, porque me hizo ver cómo eran esos llamados kdramas que al parecer estaban captando la atención de más personas en los últimos años. Me hizo sentir emociones como la dulzura de un romance y las carcajadas de lo absurdo y divertido.

Entre mis cosas favoritas, definitivamente está el cliché de jefe y secretaria. Crea una atmósfera que muestra cómo una relación de trabajo se vuelve otra cosa; te genera emoción saber lo que está pasando y lo que pasará, ¿sabes? Es como: ¡DIOS, qué genial ese cliché!, con todas las situaciones en la oficina y fuera de ella JAJAJAJA. Asimismo, el protagonista me entretuvo bastante, ya que su apreciación de perfección sobre sí mismo era lo más cómico posible. No se sentía desagradable o pesado, porque mientras más hacía alarde de sí mismo, más objeto de mis burlas se volvía, más tontito parecía y más aún cuando intervenía la secretaria Kim, quien, conociendo a su jefe, sabía claramente cómo manejarlo. Esa dinámica era divertida, con ella rodando los ojos cada vez que su jefe soltaba una exageración sobre su propia perfección. Por otra parte, agradezco que no se tocaran temas de oficina que a veces suelen ser relleno o un fastidio de procesar, y que no hubiese dramas familiares del tipo "no la aceptamos porque son de distinta clase social". Agradezco que se hayan ahorrado esos muermos latosos.



Entre los puntos negativos, he de recalcar que me di cuenta de algunos detalles al analizar la serie nuevamente, tiempo después de haberla visto. Me refiero a que ciertos temas como el narcisismo, la presión laboral o el cargar con las cosas de tu familia, en un contexto real no son graciosos ni románticos. En resumen, un ególatra y narcisista no es un estándar romántico, es alguien que puede ser peligroso. Asimismo, que tu jefe te persiga o incluso no te deje renunciar parece más acoso y estrés laboral, y que tengas que cargar con las deudas de tu padre es doloroso. Y por último: si quieres dejar tu trabajo para hacer otras cosas que te hagan feliz, nadie te lo debería impedir.

"The Opera ends and the audience disperse, but Qinqiang opera remains."

The Lead is one of the greatest human epics China has delivered this year. Set in the world of a traditional Chinese opera troupe, the drama uses elements from this art form to create allegories following people's struggles, poverty, family, friendship, heartbreak, life and death. Above all, The Lead tells a story about the importance of perseverance., as the narrator tells us, "Others can help set the stage, but one must perform until the end."

The drama stands out for its emotional maturity, understated storytelling, and strong character development. Rather than relying on exaggerated misunderstandings or melodramatic twists, it focuses on a group of people who gradually learn to trust each other while navigating the pressures of their personal and professional lives.

The performances are another highlight. Both lead actors deliver nuanced portrayals, balancing vulnerability, humor, and quiet intensity. Their interactions feel authentic, with subtle expressions and restrained performances conveying as much as the dialogue itself. The supporting cast also contributes to a well-rounded world, adding warmth and complexity without overshadowing the central story.

Visually, The Lead embraces a cinematic aesthetic. The thoughtful cinematography, soft lighting, and carefully composed scenes complement the drama's reflective tone. The soundtrack is equally effective, enhancing emotional moments without becoming overly sentimental.

The drama explores themes of ambition, identity, healing, and the importance of finding someone who encourages personal growth instead of demanding sacrifice. It presents love as a partnership built on communication and respect, making the emotional payoff particularly rewarding. The slower rhythm allows the characters and their relationships to develop with sincerity. Every emotional milestone feels meaningful because the drama takes the time to earn it.

The Lead is a thoughtful and beautifully acted and heartfelt love letter to life. I highly recommend it.

SUCH A BLESSING

As a religious person who is also part of the LGBTQ+ community, this drama touched me more deeply than I can put into words. I honestly don't think words are enough to explain how much it moved me or how much it changed the way I see love.

I think the plot is incredibly well written. At first, I was afraid that religion would take up too much space, but in the end, it allowed the drama to ask much deeper questions.

This BL doesn't only explore the moral conflict between the heart and reason (or, in this case, faith). It also shows the guilt of loving someone, the fear of disappointing God, the self-hatred that comes from not being able to accept yourself, and even the rejection of God that grows inside a heart already afraid of itself. These are questions that many of us may ask ourselves one day, and this drama gives something that is so precious : HOPE.

It reminds us that love is not incompatible with faith. That God will always have a place for those who sincerely seek Him. And that message is just so powerful. Honestly, I'm tearing up just writing these words.

On top of that, the chemistry between the two main characters gave me butterflies so many times. Watching them slowly fall in love was absolutely beautiful. The way they looked at each other, the way their breathing changed when they got close, the quiet tension between them, and even the dialogues... every emotion felt so real. Even the soundtrack pulled me in, and some of the lyrics were enough to make me cry.

Episode 2 touched me the most. I think it was beautifully directed. The way it portrayed overwhelming desire mixed with the shame of loving someone was heartbreaking and incredibly honest.

I honestly can't do anything but recommend this drama over and over again to anyone who feels lost between their faith and their identity. It reminds us that we are not alone, and that we don't have to give up a part of ourselves for God to still live in our hearts.

A Ghost Story About the Living

In my opinion, The East Palace succeeds not because it reinvents the historical fantasy genre, but because it combines several familiar elements- palace intrigue, ghost lore, horror, and tragedy- into an unusually atmospheric package. The series follows Gu-Cheon, a ghost-slayer, and Saeng-gang, a court lady who can communicate with spirits, as they investigate supernatural events connected to the Crown Prince's East Palace.

The show's greatest strength is its mood. Unlike many fantasy sageuks that eventually become political dramas with supernatural decorations, The East Palace keeps the supernatural element at the center of the story. The palace feels haunted in a genuine sense, not merely by ghosts, but by the sins, secrets, and unresolved guilt of the royal family. The combination of dark Joseon-era settings, spectral imagery, and folklore-inspired mythology creates a distinct identity. I have seen several reviews noting that the mystery and horror atmosphere remained engaging throughout the series, and this is very true. The spirit realm and the constant sense of unseen danger give the drama a tone that feels closer to gothic horror than a traditional palace romance. I caught myself thinking: does this drama really need romance? I mean, it doesn't kill the mood, so to speak, but I think it would have worked perfectly well without it.

I must say, Nam Joo-hyuk had the difficult task of carrying a character who could easily have become a generic fantasy hero. Instead, Gu-Cheon works because he's reluctant, flawed, and often feels outmatched by forces larger than himself. His performance isn't necessarily his most emotionally devastating role, but it is one of his most controlled. He sells the weariness of a man constantly moving between the worlds of the living and the dead. His action scenes and supernatural confrontations also have enough physicality to make the fantasy elements believable. He was good, and even quite brilliant in some scenes. I commend him.

Nam Joo-hyuk was good, but Roh Yoon-Seo was a wow for me; she often stole the climactic scenes. This is to say that if Gu-Cheon was the engine of the plot, Saeng-gang was the heart of the story. The writers could have written her as a passive gifted character who exists to support the hero. Instead, they gave us Saeng-gang, who can hear and communicate with spirits, giving her a unique emotional connection to the suffering surrounding the palace. Many of the drama's strongest moments come through her reactions rather than the larger action sequences. She grounds the supernatural story in human pain, grief, and empathy. For me, she's ultimately the most memorable character in the series.

The palace politics were better than expected. This was one of the pleasant surprises: the political intrigue doesn't overwhelm the horror story. The palace conspiracies matter because they are directly connected to the curse and hauntings. Instead of feeling like two separate dramas stitched together, the political and supernatural threads reinforce each other. I liked the subtle message the drama tries to send: ghosts are often manifestations of human corruption. The true horror isn't the spirits themselves; it's the people who created the conditions for those spirits to exist.

Where The East Palace falls short, or maybe I should say its biggest weakness, is that the plot occasionally becomes too complicated for its own good. I think the writers sometimes confuse complexity with depth. At times, the mythology expands faster than the emotional stakes, and a few reveals don't land as powerfully as intended because I'm too busy trying to keep track of the mechanics. The show is also less original than it appears at first glance. The haunted-palace mystery, cursed bloodline, spirit realm, and hidden royal secrets are all familiar genre elements. What elevates the series is execution, not innovation.

I will own up to this and say it outright: it might not be fair, but truth be told, when I first saw the trailer for The East Palace, the drama Kingdom came to mind, and it is one of my favorites, if not the favorite zombie K-drama; if not the all-time favorite zombie drama in any language to date; I could not help but compare it. Kingdom feels tighter, more ambitious, and more politically sophisticated. Its social commentary and relentless pacing make it one of the strongest Korean genre dramas ever produced. Yes, The East Palace is smaller in scope and more character-focused. It aims for atmosphere, folklore, and emotional mystery rather than large-scale political catastrophe. So, while I don't think it reaches Kingdom's level, I also don't think it was trying to do that. But I couldn’t help but compare them.

Without getting into heavy spoilers, the ending resolves the central conflict while leaving enough room for future stories. So, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a second season, if it hasn't been announced already. Personally, I'd be interested in a second season if it continues developing the mythology and the relationship between the leads rather than simply introducing another palace curse. The foundation is there; the question is whether there's enough narrative fuel left for another meaningful story.

I write all of this to say that even though The East Palace isn't the next Kingdom, it is one of the more memorable fantasy-horror sageuks in recent years. Its haunting atmosphere, strong lead performances, and emotionally resonant supernatural mystery make it easy to recommend. I think the best part is that I came away thinking that Roh Yoon-Seo may have ended up being the show's biggest revelation. I liked it a lot!

Incrivelmente perfeito

demorei muito tempo pra assistir esse por birra, e praticamente é um dos melhores da Han Sohee! história super interessante, personagens bem feitos e uma trilha sonora maravilhosa! amo muito doramas de vingança e esse é BOM de DMS!! Jiwoo foi uma pessoa que sofreu muito, muito antes de seu pai morrer e a gente vê a vingança nos olhos dela desde sempre! nunca vi uma personagem tão perfeita como ela, e os outros personagens super bons e os vilões sempre entregavam o que prometiam, ÓDIO!! as osts são perfeitas, e bem, quem canta as osts virou um dos meus favs cantores de osts 🤭 amei tudo nesse dorama, 9.0!!

Though short, still managed to engage me!!

I started watching this due to the chemistry between He Yu and Meng Ziyi, in Blossoms of power, which I am currently watching.
Though I didnt watch the previous prequels or the dramas related to this story, but still it managed me to engage me to the end.
The drama, though only 8 episodes, showed the childhoid tragedy of Mei Ruohua, her quest of revenge, the mistakes she made and the price she paid.
The plot had a very steady pace, the action scenes were good, and all the actors were perfect for their roles.
Zhou Yiwei was excellent in his performance
He Yu and Meng Ziyi were also very good.
Overall a good watch!! 👍

Un drama ingiustamente mutilato

Non posso non dare a questo drama un 8.5 pieno, perché mi ha letteralmente tenuta incollata allo schermo dall'inizio alla fine. Era da tempo che non provavo quell'ansia bellissima di aspettare con i minuti contati l'uscita degli episodi ogni giorno: mi ha fatto piangere, ridere, arrabbiare e battere il cuore. Quando una storia riesce a trasmetterti emozioni così forti, premiarla è il minimo!
​I due protagonisti, Xiao Wuyi e Xie Jiayu, sono stati semplicemente straordinari. Vanno fatti grandissimi elogi a Hou Minghao e Ai Mi: nonostante tutti i paletti e le pesanti limitazioni imposte dal montaggio, le loro interpretazioni sono state così intense, mature e profonde da rendere vivi, veri e tangibili sia i loro personaggi che il loro amore. Hanno fatto un lavoro magnifico d'intesa, sguardi e presenza scenica.
​Una menzione d'onore sproporzionata va alla dinamica all'interno della residenza! All'inizio Xie Jiayu entra in casa convinta di dover convivere con le altre consorti di Xiao Wuyi, ma non appena scopre che Yu Ruisheng e He Yuanji sono in realtà solo "finte mogli", la rivalità lascia il posto a una complicità pazzesca. Insieme alla protagonista hanno formato un trio semplicemente perfetto: veder nascere e crescere quell'inaspettata e genuina sorellanza tra loro tre è stato uno degli elementi più freschi, divertenti e strepitosi di tutta la serie! I cattivi poi erano strutturati benissimo, credibili e con un peso reale nella storia.
​Le uniche note stonate sul cast le metto su Li Mao e sua sorella Li Lejun. Lui l'ho trovato decisamente troppo bipolare nel suo percorso, mentre la sorella pecca di una stupidità e di un'ingenuità che ho faticato a sopportare. È vero che verso la fine si sacrifica, ma per quanto mi riguarda il suo crimine resta troppo grande per avere redenzione: ha ucciso la madre della protagonista, Li Fuhua, e una cosa del genere non la cancelli con un gesto estremo all'ultimo minuto per far pietà allo spettatore.
​E poi, ragazzi... le scene di battaglia! Tutte perfette, nessuna esclusa. Hou Minghao in questi ruoli marziali e potenti è una garanzia assoluta, ha una presenza scenica pazzesca e lo scontro finale contro il Re dell'Aquila è stato puro cinema!
​L'unica vera amarezza—e qui lo dico con un po' di dente avvelenato—sono i tagli. È un peccato mortale vedere come un lavoro con una scrittura così solida, articolata e complessa sia stato mutilato per colpa delle solite polemiche sterili della vigilia e della paura della piattaforma. Far passare una storia del genere da 40 a 28 episodi è stato un mezzo massacro immeritato. Sono convintissima che, con i suoi episodi naturali e il respiro che si meritava, Key to the Phoenix Heart avrebbe potuto essere tranquillamente il drama dell'anno o quantomeno giocarsela ad armi pari con un colosso come Pursuit of Jade.
​Resta comunque una perla che mi ha fatto vivere settimane intense. Promosso a pieni voti!
