A refreshing reminder that even the biggest stars need saving sometimes

Idol I lands as a refreshingly grounded and engaging series that dares to peek behind the heavily curated curtains of the K-pop industry. It successfully blends a high-stakes murder mystery with a mature exploration of fandom culture, setting itself apart from typical fluffy rom-coms. By centering the story around a skilled defense attorney who secretly harbors a decade-long dedication to her favorite group, the drama subverts the usual star-and-fan dynamic. When her ultimate bias is framed for the murder of a bandmate, the narrative transforms into a compelling push-and-pull game of faith, resilience, and professional boundaries.

The strongest asset of the drama is its thoughtful commentary on parasocial relationships and the intense pressures of fame. The male lead delivers a standout performance, capturing the painful duality of his character. We see the polished, charismatic idol on stage contrasted with the vulnerable, cynical, and isolated human being fighting for his innocence behind closed doors. His raw emotional moments and psychological struggles feel genuinely moving. On the other side, the female lead brings a realistic, ethical approach to fandom. She respects his privacy and safety, showing that true support means standing by someone quietly through their darkest hours rather than feeding into wild fantasies.

While the romance takes a backseat to the legal battle for most of the show, the slow-burning intellectual respect between the leads feels earned. The cohabitation trope is utilized well to build natural chemistry, leading to a satisfyingly sweet payoff in the final stretch. Excellent soundtracks further elevate the emotional weight of key scenes, creating an immersive atmosphere.

However, the drama is not without its flaws. The legal procedures can feel a bit too creative or convenient at times, which might frustrate fans of hardcore courtroom thrillers. Additionally, while the ending is mostly satisfying, the pacing in the final hour feels slightly rushed. A few major subplots, like the storyline surrounding her father's retrial, are left without complete closure. Despite these minor narrative missteps, Idol I remains a highly entertaining and warm watch. It succeeds because it treats idols as real humans and fans as capable individuals, making it a worthy choice for anyone seeking a meaningful story about identity and trust.

Comfort series with wholesome storyline, great acting, and music

I only discovered US the series in April 2026 when it was already a year old since it first released in Jan 2025. So I may be biased as I get to watch the whole series all at once and it really was a magical wholesome experience, going through the journey of Pam and Dokrak.

The story is really a love story of how relationship and character development evolved from love to commitment to one another. Once you found that someone who make you feel at peace, you hold each other hands and navigate life twist and turn together.

The cast and their acting are top tier. Actresses who portrayed Pam and Dokrak were both new to GL series but they crushed it in their respective roles. Both characters were grounded in our everyday life. Genuine, caring and understanding, which give the audience the sense of comfort.

Soundtracks and the scoring of the show is also exceptional. This one is really top notch and thanks to the director in blending the background so well to each scenes, giving the audience the higthened feelings of longing, romantic, sad, being in love etc so so well. Ost of the show is one of the best. The leads lend their singing talents, allowing the characters to be able to advance the story through their singing talent.

All in all, the is one of the series that I keep coming back to for re-watch. The comfort value that it gives deserve a great shout out.

Pleasently Suprised

WOW Gong Seung-Yeon is amazing actress, this was such a good performance from her!!

The storyline was intriguing enough for me to finish as well as the acting being good. My first IU and Byeon Woo Seok dramas. I enjoyed her acting, at first I didn’t even realize it was her because I didn’t look at the actress name when I started watching. I think I’m going to check out lovely runner soon because I also enjoyed his performance too.

At times the plot was predictable but in a good way. There were many times where I had to pause for a minute and freak out.

Good Script, terrible relationship.

The investigative storyline is excellent, and the characters have great depth—the acting is truly emotionally compelling. However, the way the relationship between the male and female leads is written is baffling. The male lead's stubborn attachment makes absolutely no sense; logically, no one would willingly wallow in the pain of seeing their wife fall for someone else—especially while still living together. Is he a sadist? It really ruins the viewing experience. If you wanted to write a melodramatic soap opera, they should have just done that instead of spoiling what could have been a great drama.

This is real life

This story seems to take place before my mother was born, so it feels very distant from my own life. But period dramas like this give me a sense of what life was like for women in Chinese society at that time. I don't usually write reviews, but this one got me. Yes, it's long. Yes, it's slow at times. But honestly? I loved every episode.

What stands out is how real the sisters feel. None of them is perfect. They're stubborn, jealous, loving, and fiercely protective. You'll hate one sister in episode 5 and cry for her in episode 20. The acting is top-notch. Mei Ting especially carries the weight of the eldest sister with so much quiet strength that you feel her exhaustion and love in every scene. The whole cast has this natural chemistry that makes you believe they've known each other their whole lives.

The period details are stunning too, filmed on location in Huainan, the old courtyards, the bicycles, the enamel cups – it all feels authentic without being distracting. And the makeup team deserves a shout-out for making the aging look gradual and believable.

Is it a tear-jerker? Absolutely. But it's also warm, funny, and deeply satisfying. The finale gave me exactly the emotional payoff I was hoping for – not too neat, not too messy, just right.

If you enjoy character-driven dramas that take their time and treat their audience with respect, give Six Sisters a shot. It broke records in China for a reason. I'm still thinking about these women weeks later. Highly recommend.

Don't disappoint me now. And dear C-dramas, take notes.

⭐ 9/10 (Ep. 1–5)

Okay...

Can we PLEASE keep this energy till the finale? 😭

Because five episodes in, and I'm already attached to the main characters. That almost never happens to me. Usually, I'm sitting there till Episode 7 or 8 wondering, "Okay... so when am I supposed to care?" Not here.

First of all...THE LEADS.

They're both ridiculously intelligent, constantly reading each other, hiding their own cards, yet somehow slowly letting the other person in. It's not a battle of who's smarter. It's two equally capable people trying to outplay everyone else... and accidentally falling for each other in the process.

And I'm absolutely eating it up.

The female lead? Exactly my kind of heroine.

Composed. Ruthless. Elegant. Brilliant. Doesn't need the script to remind me every five minutes that she's "strong."

She simply is.

And the male lead...

Sir. I SEE YOU. 😭🤚

You're out here smiling sweetly one second, plotting three moves ahead the next, while quietly making sure she's safe without ever taking away her agency.

One thing I appreciate even more? This drama actually respects my time.

The plot moves. The characters move. The relationships move. Imagine that. 😭

And can we please appreciate the women in this drama?

A female physician who's also a bodyguard.
A female heir playing the political game.
Women with ambitions, influence, and actual personalities instead of existing solely to worship or sabotage the female lead.

More of THIS, please.

Now yes...I've already noticed a few logical loopholes.

But here's the funny thing.
I noticed them......and then immediately moved on.

Because I was having way too much fun. That's when I know a drama is doing something right.

If I'm emotionally invested, I'll happily overlook a few flaws.

If I'm bored?

Congratulations. You've just awakened the most annoying critic alive. 😭

So please...

Don't pull a "strong first half, messy second half."

Don't make your intelligent leads suddenly forget all their brain cells.

Don't manufacture misunderstandings for the sake of dragging the plot.

Just keep doing whatever you're doing.

Because right now...

It's still too early, but "It is a comedy in which both the male and female leads are villains..

For now [ 10 ep ] , I can only say that both the lead actor and actress are doing a fantastic job. They both seamlessly embody their characters. The male lead never even tries to hide the love in his eyes, but because of his cunning nature, when he's being the Crown Prince, he's one person, and when he approach her in another persona that his Crown Prince identity cannot do, he's another person (while always intentionally letting the female lead know those personas are the same person).

Personally, I really like it when a male actor has a look that is a little bit mischievous, cunning, competent, but also a bit scheming, and I don't mean they are a bad person, I mean they have a healthy relationship with her but they are just scheming, cunning, and good at planning. So I think He Yu did a really good job.

As for Meng Ziyi, I'm already not worried about her. The story is supposed to convey that she is a woman of breathtaking beauty, men fall in love with her at first sight, but because she has already died once, she is wary of trusting people, tells herself that she must be careful and ruthless with the villains. She chooses him only because he cannot harm her and makes her trust him.

Here’s an additional review after finishing Episode 29 and getting a general grasp of the whole story.

Unbelievably, besides falling in love with the male lead, I also fell in love with Bushulin and The Stone Cui. They are such a cute, touching, and hilarious couple. Bushulin is the one I fell for right after the Crown Prince, followed by The Stone Cui, who shares the same thick-skinned nature as the Crown Prince. He never gives up even when scolded or chased away by a woman. He is deeply devoted, crafty, scheming, persistent, and fully dedicated to her. At their core, they are a couple of equal intelligence, just in different ways. She is a skilled martial artist and a born soldier who could defeat men, yet whenever she gets hugged by The Stone Cui, she can't instantly break free—sometimes even standing frozen and blushing without running away. That’s how Stone Cui caught on that she likes him too. Once he realized this, he pursued her relentlessly, using every trick up his sleeve in the most hilarious ways.

The story of this second lead couple will ultimately lead to deeply touching moments.

It had potential

The biggest problem with this series is the runtime. With this kind of plot, you can't just condense it down to 10-minute-long episodes and expect to get anything of substance done.

Which is why they kind of don't. Ji Han really just stumbles around with no real goal, falls in love, & gets a second chance after catching our fugitive. I didn't believe the romance. The worlds and their connection were never really explained; they are working on the assumption that the watcher has a baseline amount of knowledge.

Why are we spending actual time on schoolwork? Why are there two possible love interests? Most full-length series are too short to involve multiple love interests! Why is there no attempt to "fix" the error? Doesn't the original ledger that Ji Han came with at the end still exist? Is that not going to be a problem? Where is Ji Han getting his clothes from? That last one isn't really important, but it bothers me not knowing.

The acting was at least alright. Kan Hyeon Bae (Ji Han) did a really good job for his first role.

The chemistry really wasn't present outside the NC scene; it was alright then, but the kisses were good & VERY audible.

Not a total waste of time, but it was really disappointing because the plot had potential and the acting wasn't terrible.

Um Japonês Somente Bom!

Se o Japão é conhecido no universo dos BLs pela sua capacidade única de extrair poesia do cotidiano e dos silêncios, "Takara's Treasure" (Takara no Vidro) chega para confirmar essa regra, mas não sem antes testar a paciência da gente em alguns aspectos de sua caminhada. Fechando mais uma parada do nosso projeto "BLs Pelo Mundo", o saldo geral entrega exatamente a estética intimista e o capricho visual que eu tanto esperava, mas com escolhas de roteiro que dividiram minhas impressões ao longo dos episódios.

Esse foi um enredo slowburn extremamente “slow”, pois acompanhamos em pequenas doses homeopáticas toda a construção do relacionamento deles, principalmente suas evoluções pessoais. Taishin foi um personagem que me despertou amor e ódio, pois seu comportamento e mentalidade infantilizada me tiraram do sério pelo exagero e falta de realismo, mas me deram também momentos de fofura e empatia.

Outra coisa que percebi ao finalizar a série foi a pequena evolução pessoal de Taishin em comparação a Takara. Notei um certo amadurecimento, mas nada tão relevante ao ponto de destacar o personagem. Por outro lado, o contraponto desse relacionamento veio na figura maravilhosa e deslumbrante de Takara. Se no início ele parecia um veterano inacessível e envolto em um pragmatismo quase frio, o roteiro guardou para a reta final a sua verdadeira essência. Takara me entregou camadas: do trauma da infância e do relacionamento conturbado com a mãe à criação, inspiração e hobby dado pelo avô, sua visão da vida, das pessoas e, principalmente, sua visão sobre o amor. Seu amadurecimento e sua evolução pessoal foram nítidos, se destacando mais ainda no episódio final, que foi extremamente tocante e sensível.

No fim das contas, a química do casal principal acaba se sustentando justamente nessa balança onde um serve de contrapeso para o outro. Embora a disparidade de maturidade, o desequilíbrio de poder e a oficialização inusitada da relação tenham me incomodado um pouco, a entrega e a honestidade emocional dos episódios finais limparam o caminho. A vulnerabilidade que eles compartilharam provou que, por mais tortuosa que tenha sido a jornada, os dois conseguiram encontrar um terreno comum de afeto, admiração, respeito e acolhimento.

Visualmente, a série é impecável e funciona como o verdadeiro pilar de sustentação da obra. A composição técnica de fotografia casada com as belíssimas paisagens naturais de Tóquio, o capricho no jogo de luz e sombra e a escolha minuciosa dos tons de cores elevaram o nível da narrativa. O enquadramento focado nas microexpressões dos personagens, especialmente os closes cirúrgicos no rosto de Takara e Taishin, conseguiu traduzir tudo aquilo que o diálogo economizava ou faltava. É o tipo de produção onde a estética visual compensa os ritmos mais lentos do enredo, fazendo com que cada cena lenta ou silenciosa seja, no mínimo, lindíssima de se contemplar.

Com as pazes feitas com o enredo e os olhos brilhando com a fotografia, nos despedimos do Japão com o saldo de uma produção que compensa seus exageros com pura honestidade emocional. Minha nota para esse BL é 7. Não foi uma história inesquecível ou marcante, mas, apesar de algumas ressalvas, como todo bom BL japonês, soube entregar sensibilidade e delicadeza em sua narrativa com um fechamento digno. Destaque para o episódio especial, que foi um dos meus favoritos, pois me proporcionou um vislumbre do relacionamento um pouco mais maduro entre Takara e Taishin, e ainda me deu uma side story com uma personagem inesperada.

Nota: 07/10

"Life is too precious to give up easily"

The first episode did a great job of hooking me in. Right from the start, I was intrigued by why Lin Wan Xing looked so melancholic while contemplating whether to jump or not and what made someone with such impressive credentials choose to live a laid-back or as she calls it, a "slacker" life.

Wang Fa is just as intriguing. He has wounds that still haven't fully healed yet and is determined to uncover the truth behind the death of the football kid he considered family.

Then there are the football boys. There are no minor characters in this drama, each of them has a story to tell and every one of those stories is touching and heartbreaking in its own way. Their individual arcs add so much depth and emotion to the story.

One thing I really admire about this drama is how they flesh out the characters. You can tell the writers poured their hearts into creating them. Every character feels like a real person with their own struggles, dreams and growth. It's easy to connect with their experiences and become emotionally invested in their story.

As for the romance, it isn't the typical fast-paced whirlwind romance, it's a slow burn. Wang Fa and Lin Wan Xing communicate like mature adults and their feelings develop naturally over time. Misunderstandings are afraid of them and they built their relationship on mutual respect which I truly admire because I'm sick of seeing leads fight over the smallest misunderstandings and act like they have lovebrain.

For some viewers, the pacing might feel slow. But to me, it's simply a well-thought-out drama that takes its time to tell its story. It isn't trying to impress with big twists or cliffhangers. Instead, it quietly touches your heart and that's what makes it standout.

The main leads, Yu Shuxin (Esther Yu) and Chen Jingke, did an amazing job bringing their characters to life.

Esther is often typecast in cute and bubbly roles but this drama shows a completely different side of her. As Lin Wan Xing, she's intelligent, composed, and level-headed. She's like a calm water with barely a ripple on the surface. At first, she seems detached from everything around her but as she grows closer to the team, she realizes she can no longer stand by and watch. She portrayed Lin Wan Xing's growth perfectly and her crying scenes are moving, I couldn't help but cry with her. This is one of Esther's best performances and made me see her in a whole new light.

Chen Jingke was a pleasant surprise. This is the first drama I've seen him in so I went in with no expectations but he completely won me over. He has a very natural acting style and from his physique to his demeanor, he really feels like a football coach. And his eyes, they are so expressive. I can't compare this performance to his previous works since this is my first time watching him but based on this drama alone, I think he's a hidden gem.

The supporting cast deserves just as much praise. The football boys don't feel like background characters, they each have distinct personalities and meaningful character arcs. As the story progressed, they truly felt like family. And as a bonus, there's a subtle bromance.

This ensemble is going to be legendary. It's a cast of future talented male leads who will soon dominate the industry.

Overall, kudos to the casting director for doing an excellent job casting them. Every actor fits their role so naturally that it's hard to imagine anyone else playing these characters.

The OST perfectly complements the drama. The opening theme is energetic and fits the sports genre so well. I especially love the song《练习》(Practice) by 打扰一下乐团 (Excuse Me Band). I'm reminded of the team's happy moments on the field and the bond that they shared along the way.

The english songs are also good. It adds so much feelings and emotion to the scenes. My favorite is 《无声引力 (Silent Gravity)》 by 董相麟. My heart skips a beat whenever the intro starts and I hear the lyrics,

"Two souls aligned in silent gravity,
Heal my heart with every part of you."

The song perfectly captures Wang Fa and Lin Wan Xing's relationship. They are two broken souls slowly finding healing in each other. Whenever the song plays, I just know I'll be bawling my eyes out and be emotionally wrecked.

One thing I really appreciate is that the drama isn't stingy with its soundtrack. Every song is used at the right moment, making each scene even more impactful.

Personally, the rewatch value of this drama is very high. I'm not the most patient person and I have a short attention span (blaming tiktok for this), but this drama made me want to rewatch every episode, not just to catch the details I might have missed but also to connect with the story deeper while writing my reviews. Actually I'm rewatching an episode as I write this.

This is the kind of drama that doesn't lose its charm no matter how many times you watch it. Each episode makes you feel the same emotions you felt the first time you've seen it.

It's been a while since I've watched a drama that feels human. The characters and their emotions feel so real that it's almost inevitable to see parts of yourself in them. I'm pretty sure this will be my new comfort drama and I'll find myself coming back to this whenever I need to remind myself that despite all the sadness and hardships, life is still beautiful and worth living.
