There was not one single episode that didn't have my attention. It was pure comedy. Lots of creative meals gotcha lots of skills with great reactions from those that got to partake. It was pretty much a live action anime SKs do NOT make with the kind of elements featured on it. The game system I mean~
It was really good ppl, it's definitely worth a watch deserves a second run. It was the supporting cast that I think deserves the praise for making this a success~

Overhated, but definitely not perfect—still solid and worth checking out

Ashes to Crown is fast paced and has a strong cast therefore making it entertaining. Ultimately, I enjoyed it a lot, but it is important to note that I am sucker for revenge plots and dark aesthetics/ characters, especially Yan Fang. I hope his actor is the main ML in future dramas because he is a very talented actor and I feel like he has been slept on by the industry.

However, the reviews critiquing the plot are justified. Like I said before, it is fast paced and really needed more episodes to fully flush out the characters and plot. There are some plot holes and non-sensical plot decisions as well as half baked characterization/character arcs. Personally, I was able to overlook these things, but it depends on how much you are willing to “go along” with the plot and world/character building.

I enjoyed the reverse harem vibes, but I almost wish there was more romance. The main leads had great tension on the beginning but I think it kinda fizzled. IMO Chu Zhao ended up having better tension with yan fang and lowkey deng yi. I would love to watch more dramas with a reverse harem like this, so if anyone has any recommendations pls lmk!

Overall, it’s definitely worth checking out! I wouldn’t let the super negative reviews scare you off. You’ll know from the beginning whether you like it or not because the show is very consistent throughout, so I would give the first episode a chance.

Dropped....

Couldn't believe that I reached ep 15 before deciding to drop this.

I wanted to like this drama but for the life of me, I couldn't understand anymore the intricacies of the political rivalries.
Added to this, is that I do not like the FL's character.

Like what other reviewers' have noted, I find it extremely unlikely that a once naive girl suddenly turns into a tactician followed by the whole military army. And requesting the late emperor that she be bestowed the title of Grand Princess????? on the pretext of protecting the child emperor???? It is obvious that she just used it as a stepping stone for her revenge against her ex....

The fight scene in the gorge? It is more believable for the FL in Pursuit of Jade and Legend of the Female General to do fight scenes because they are dressed for the part. But here??? She is still in her red dress and awkwardly fights along her army.

So many flaws for a drama which started off strong.....

It's BEAUTIFUL.

As a person who isnt a big fan of horror, this series is just top notch.

The acting, story, portrayal of Thai culture, acting, visuals (cinematically or even the casts face cards lol) and down to OST is just, 10/10.

Please please please watch the uncut version because the attention to detail is just!

Totally recommend to watch their reaction video also to hear the boys share more about the production and story, and them letting their intrusive thoughts win like how we as viewers would LOL.

I've been looping their soundtrack for weeks too. Beautiful scores and OST.

Dazzling..Where Hope Refuses to Die

I came for the handsome male lead and stayed because the man is ridiculously attractive. Seriously, every time he appeared on screen looking calm, confident, and ready to solve everyone's problems, I forgot what the plot was supposed to be about. 🔥

The female lead held her own and played her role well. She was smart, capable, and thankfully not one of those heroines who spends half the drama tripping over flat ground while chasing a man who clearly needs glasses. Her performance felt natural and believable.

The story itself was engaging, but wow... can this family catch a break? Every time things started looking up, another disaster arrived. At one point I felt less like I was watching a romance and more like I was watching a survival documentary. The family took so many hits from life that I started expecting bad news every ten minutes.

One thing Chinese dramas seem to love is extremes. Either the male lead is a perfect genius billionaire CEO, top student, martial arts master, business expert, and emotionally unavailable ice prince all rolled into one, while the female lead can barely tie her own shoelaces, stumbles through life, and spends most of her time endlessly fangirling over the male lead, which can get a little exhausting.
Or the female lead is written as an unstoppable genius queen who needs nobody, has no interest in marriage or romance, and is so fiercely independent that the relationship feels sterile and transactional. Meanwhile, the poor male lead is left doing all the chasing, sacrificing, apologizing, and emotional heavy lifting.

The best romances are somewhere in the middle, where both people contribute, pursue, sacrifice, and grow together. That's what makes a relationship feel real.
Maybe it's just me, but love works best when both people put in the effort. Relationships are built on mutual sacrifice, consideration, and action. One person cannot carry the entire romance while the other simply stands there looking pretty.

The supporting cast was fantastic. The family members and friends brought plenty of laughs, and Hao Cheng Gong was an absolute scene-stealer. Every time he appeared, he added charm, humour, and much-needed relief from the endless family crises.

Some situations required a very generous suspension of disbelief. Real life simply does not work that way. But that's part of the charm of dramas. Sometimes logic takes a short holiday so entertainment can clock in.

I understand why they did not officially get together until the very end. They were still teenagers for much of the story and were believed to be cousins, so it made sense for the writers to take that route. Even so, they developed a deep understanding of each other remarkably quickly, and their connection felt natural from the start.
Like many other viewers, I found myself wishing we had more time with them as an actual couple. After investing so much in their journey, it would have been nice to see their relationship explored beyond the final episodes.

What I appreciated most was how healthy their relationship felt, both when they were together and when they were apart. Despite the distance, neither of them fell into the usual drama traps of misunderstanding, mistrust, or needless jealousy. They remained faithful to what they shared, trusted each other's intentions, and stayed true to one another even when circumstances kept them apart.
There were no over-the-top confrontations, manufactured misunderstandings, or endless breakups for the sake of drama. Their bond was built on trust, respect, loyalty, and genuine understanding, which made their relationship feel refreshingly mature and believable.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Dazzling. Great story, strong performances, memorable characters, and stellar acting across the board. A few unrealistic moments and enough family suffering to last several lifetimes, but definitely worth the watch.

I am my own Pawn..

Oh how I wish I could love this drama more.. I really wanted to, like absolutely wanted to love it.. And I genuinely wanted to rate it higher.. The first half made me feel like it had so much to offer.. It was good, the cast, the story, the way everything flowed and then somewhere around the halfway point, the drama looked me in the eye and started gasping for air.. It felt like it just gave up.. The expectations were real.. Sure it's another historical CDrama about a woman who dies, gets reborn and wakes up ready for revenge even if she has to burn everything down.. We have seen that.. Except we haven't really seen it like this.. At least that's what the first half made me believe..

The script, the revenge plot and the political intrigue were all pretty good to an extent but the production quality was an absolute letdown.. Quite a few times it felt like I was watching a low tier drama.. The VFX was pathetic and some scenes had almost no energy.. While some of the ML's action scenes were a blast to watch especially when he stepped in to save the FL, then again, there were also scenes that were really poor.. There's one battle scene where the FL fights alongside the ML and her soldiers and she is slicing through the enemy soldiers, but the whole scene lacked any sort of energy.. It looked like her slices wouldn't even cut a paper let alone a human wearing armor.. There was no energy or intensity at all.. I would blame the director for this..

The heavy use of AI really hurt this drama and took away a lot of the sense of realism.. Seriously, it was bad.. The war cries, the large scale battle scenes.. When you are looking at an army of 3000 men, you should feel something.. Here it all felt lifeless, almost like looking at a watercolor painting.. Some better editing, camera work and a bigger budget would have made this drama a spectacular watch considering the cast..

The cast, well they were top notch.. Gave some solid performances.. Chen Duling as Chu Zhao was seriously good and honestly this role felt like it was tailor made for her.. Except for the action scenes, I guess.. Anyway, she carried the whole drama.. Then again the entire story revolved around her, so she kind of had to.. Zhou Yiran sort of surprised me.. He was really good as Fu Jiu, but his character was underutilized.. He sort of disappears after 16 episodes and barely gets any screen time after that.. On top of that, he had no real impact scenes in the second half.. No fights, nothing that really made him feel like the male lead.. This just added another dent to his identity in the drama.. I wish they had done more with his character.. There was a war going on after all.. They could have shown more of his battles, how he killed the enemy state's prince and so much more.. I don't know why they chose to leave out that part of his arc.. I get that this is Chu Zhao's story but they had a great opportunity to use his character to bring some excitement to the last leg of the drama..

The chemistry between the main leads is so good that it makes you keep watching even when the story starts to bore you.. Layered and not overly sweet.. Good stuff..

We have to talk about the supporting cast too.. Tang Xiao Tian and Gao Mao Tong were impressive.. The Deng Yi and Xie Yan Fang rivalry was intriguing, but it just becomes too much.. There's so much back and forth between them, but nothing really happens for a long period of time..

This is the kind of drama that would have been okay with lesser episodes.. There were quite a lot that happens that we could have done without.. The pacing feels aggressive yet somehow it just drags on and on.. But at the same time it feels like the drama could have had more episodes as well.. Because it feels like they cut out a lot of the good parts just to make room for the court drama and the political tension.. Characters who were carefully built up suddenly start making decisions that feel like they exist only to push the story to its conclusion.. Deng Yi backstabbing Xiao Xun was one of them..

Overall, I am disappointed that I couldn't rate it higher.. It's not bad, it genuinely isn't.. It just feels like they spent the first half trying to make something special but settled for something average after that.. It's so obvious that quite a lot was cut and in that process we lost a lot of good moments, character arcs and visuals.. This is definitely going to be a 14 episode drama on a rewatch..

P.S. I loved that deep red palace aesthetic and the costumes..

Moon Geun Young's career came to a tragic halt due to compartment syndrome. Her agency dropped her after that K-drama. She turned to directing and makes guest appearances from time to time, but never in a leading role. It makes me sad for this person I don't know personally ; she's not to blame for this situation. Anyway. Here, she plays the role of a downtrodden character all the time, except sometimes when she has to burst into tears... Yet the series starts out as a comedy and romance disguised as a police investigation. But these people never actually investigate the serial killer they're supposed to find within two months. (A deadline we don't really care about.)

This series ages like good milk. Believe a vegan. In recent years, production standards in K-dramas have skyrocketed so much that just watching something from 2019 feels really weird. However, the characters are funny (at first), and nothing problematic happens... Wait, actually, yes. This series has a problem with sanism. This portrayal of autism really annoys me. Same old, same old. People in a perpetual state of crisis. That's not what we're like in everyday life. It's just carnival-style autism. Rain Man is over.
And strangely enough, there are a lot of mentally ill people in this series. Captain Ko's mother, the homeless man, two people with autism. I hope you're being entertained ? I'm glad to hear that we're right to be afraid of people who don't fit the norm. Great message.

16 episodes were too many. I skipped a lot of pointless scenes. So many slow parts... And the solution to the mystery, in a word : notgreat.

(I watched this because, with these heat waves, there's just nothing I can do. I have way too much time on my hands)

MIND BLOWING

omgggggggggi love this I knew wang churan and Cheng lei never disappoints. first of all can we all collectively talk about how Churan is one of the most gorgeous women to ever exist I’m gagged, her outfits are makeup, her acting I love it all and Cheng lei was so handsome too his character was funny and he played it well. the plot was chef kiss no boring episodes at all. The OST was so good I have two saved songs on my playlist now. the acting was really good the casting was perfect too. I kinda miss Yong Er🥹how come we never heard of the crown prince (emperor son lol) The SL was pissing me off so bad but I could stand his annoyance I would definitely rewatch it someday. after finishing this I’m a bit sad I got too attached to it I can’t even move on thinking about the days I had so many episodes left. This would always be my first recommendation whenever I’m introducing someone to cdrama. Once again this was insanely beautiful with gaggy cast and cinematography

A 10/10 after my second watch, and yes, I am officially a Hou Minghao fan now

I rarely love a drama even more on a second watch, but Love in the Clouds exceeded my expectations. The first time, I was completely pulled in by the chemistry, the world, the tension, and the emotional push-and-pull. The second time, I noticed how carefully everything was built: the looks, the little pauses, the way the main characters test each other, hide from each other, and slowly become unable to pretend they are not affected.

This is exactly the kind of xianxia romance I love. It has that addictive mix of danger, secrets, yearning, and emotional rollercoaster, but what makes it stand out is the dynamic between the leads. Ji Bozai and Ming Yi are not boring, passive characters waiting for destiny to throw them together. They are sharp, guarded, proud, and constantly trying to read each other. Their relationship is like a chess match with feelings bleeding through the board.

Lu Yuxiao was wonderful as Ming Yi. She gave the character strength without making her cold, vulnerability without making her weak, and I loved how much dignity she brought to the role. Ming Yi is the kind of female lead I can root for because she has presence, intelligence, and emotional depth. She is not just there to react to the male lead. She has her own pain, her own strategy, her own secrets, and her own fire.

But I have to say it: Hou Minghao absolutely stole my heart in this drama. After Love in the Clouds, I am a huge fan. His Ji Bozai is charismatic in such an effortless way. He can be playful, dangerous, wounded, flirtatious, and unreadable, sometimes all in the same scene. What impressed me most were the small details in his performance: the way his eyes change before his words do, the controlled softness under the arrogance, the quiet hurt he lets slip just enough for you to feel it. He made Ji Bozai magnetic without turning him into a mainstream cool male lead, and that is not easy to do.

The chemistry between the main leads is one of the biggest reasons this drama works so well. Their scenes have tension even when nothing huge is happening. A glance feels loaded. A conversation feels like a duel. A soft moment feels earned because these two characters are always fighting themselves as much as they are fighting each other. I loved that the romance did not feel flat or instant. It had layers, suspicion, attraction, emotional resistance, and that delicious “I know you are lying, but why should I care?” energy.

The plot was also much more gripping than I expected. It kept me curious without needing cheap shock value. There are secrets, power games, hidden motives, and enough emotional stakes to make me keep pressing next episode. Even on rewatch, I did not feel bored because knowing more actually made earlier scenes more interesting. That is always a sign of a drama that has stronger bones than people may realize.

Is it perfect in every single technical detail? Maybe not. But emotionally, it gave me exactly what I wanted. I was invested in the leads, I cared about their choices, I enjoyed the mind games, and I finished it wanting to go back to the beginning and watch their story unfold all over again.

For me, Love in the Clouds is a 10/10 because it made me feel the way my favorite dramas make me feel: obsessed, impatient, emotional, and completely attached to the characters. The leads carried this beautifully, the romance had sparks, the story kept me hooked, and Hou Minghao officially joined my list of actors I will be watching from now on.

A gripping historical romance with leads who completely own the screen

I went into The First Jasmine expecting a beautiful historical romance, but I did not expect it to grab me this hard. This drama has everything I love in a good C-drama: political tension, emotional restraint, revenge, secrets, strategy, slow-burn romance, and two main leads who make every scene feel charged without needing to overdo anything.

Bai Lu as Ye Li is absolutely magnetic. She gives the character so much quiet strength, intelligence, and emotional control. Ye Li is not a helpless heroine waiting for the plot to happen to her. She is observant, careful, wounded, and dangerous in the most elegant way. What I loved most is that Bai Lu never plays her as one-note. You can feel the pain behind her calmness, the calculation behind her silence, the madness beneath the intellect, and the softness she tries so hard to protect. It is such a layered performance.

Cheng Lei as Mo Xiuyao is equally impressive. He has such a strong screen presence here, but it is not loud or forced. His performance is all in the eyes, the stillness, the small reactions. Mo Xiuyao carries his own scars and secrets, and Cheng Lei makes him powerful even in the quietest moments. A very compelling male lead who does not need to dominate every scene to feel important. He just has that gravity.

Their dynamic is not the fluffy, instant-romance type, and that is exactly why it works so well. There is suspicion, tension, restraint, and this slow shift from guarded distance to trust. Every look feels loaded. Every conversation feels like a chess match and a confession at the same time. Their relationship builds with so much emotional weight that even the smallest moments between them are satisfying.

The revenge and palace intrigue drive the story forward and make the world dangerous. There are hidden motives, power games, old wounds, and enough tension to keep you clicking the next episode without realizing how late it is. I especially liked that the drama does not treat intelligence as simply “the character says clever things.” Ye Li and Mo Xiuyao are smart because they watch, wait, plan, and understand people.

What makes The First Jasmine a 10 for me is that it balances romance, revenge, and political intrigue without losing the emotional core. It is not just about schemes. It is about two people who have been shaped by pain, learning whether they can trust someone else without losing themselves. That kind of romance always hits harder for me than simple love-at-first-sight stories.

No spoilers, but if you love historical C-dramas with strong female leads, controlled but intense male leads, slow-burn chemistry, revenge plots, and court politics that actually keep you invested, this is absolutely worth watching. Bai Lu and Cheng Lei are a pairing I did not know I needed this much, and now I need more dramas like this.

DON'T CAST SO HUI AGAIN IN ANY VARIETY SHOW PLEASE!!!!!

I rarely write review but this show frutsrated me so much that I had to write this so that people don't waste their time in watching this useless shit. I feel bad writing this because I know some of the contestants were very good. But, hyun gyu, so hui and kyunhyun, these people made this show unbearable for me to watch. As a woman, I think So hui should reflect on her behaviour. I think in her mind she was in single's inferno instead of the devil's plan. Wome rarely win these kind of shows and all so hui did was set another pick-me girl example for younger girls to show them that instead of using their intelligence to win, she just used it to please another shitty man(hyun gyu's) fragile ego. So hui, girl, if you don't want to win this show, just don't participate in these kind of shows and stop ruining the experience of audience. Find different ways to please men instead of participating in a game show to show your pick me girl behaviour and ruining the show.

Also, a side note to hyun gyu, you might be intelligent, but have a hold on your tongue, stop feeling superior to everyone else, don't tell a kaist math major if he even knows math, stop being so self obsessed about yourself, not everyone is dumb like So hui and kyuhyun to please your fragile ego. you self obsessed bitch.
