Yukari Hayasaka is a high school student who has become tired of her life of constant schooling. She then comes across a group of student fashion designers in need of a model for their "Paradise Kiss" clothing label. Paradise Kiss had been in my to-watch list for quite some time and it was a good movie. I have not seen the anime or anything so just as a movie, it was a good watch. I have a thing for chick flicks and this movie is just that.

With quite a simple story and even simpler characters, it was delightful to watch. This is another no-brainer, but a nice one nonetheless. read more I am not fond of anime humour getting injected in every Japanese film or drama, so this one was good for a change in that aspect. The actors were good and I really liked the chemistry between the two leads. Also, this movie lives upto its name 'Paradise Kiss'. It has a couple of kissing scenes which were the best I have seen in anything Japanese so far.

The film primarily focuses on fashion, so the clothes were great in this one. While it drags out longer than required, it is a relaxing movie. Just grab a bowl of popcorn and watch it when you're bored. It will surely provide you with good humour and some cute romantic moments.

1-The reason I watched this : I watched this film with couple of friends who already watched the anime.

2-Storyline/Plot : To start with, I never read the manga or watched the anime, so for someone like me everything was a first time.
The story was set in a good way because it was something different: I didn't watch many shows or films about fashion before so the general concept was appealing read more enough.

3-Acting/Cast : I just like Kitagawa Keiko as an actress but I can't say the same thing about her character which seemed to have many flaws. On the other hand, George's character was well done.
Other character were okay, no special feelings about them.

4-Music : Kind of cool; it's not a bad music.

5-Rewatch value : It's possible for some cases.

6-The ending : My friends who already watched the anime told me that the anime's ending was really bad. All I know that the film's ending was a fluffy ending.

7-My impression : I never lost interest while watching this plus I appreciated the fashion-love combination. It didn't touch me deeply but it was enjoyable.

8-Overall : As a person who watched this film for itself not to compare it with the manga/anime, I believe that it was good enough to waste my time on it; an acceptable film overall.

Keiko Kitagawa is beautiful and cute. The way she acted is incredibly adorable.

Though the plots are different, they both have to do with fashion. Paradise Kiss is everything I wanted Fashion King to be tbh...

I LOVE this Movie - I've got goosebumps a few times while watching. Since I was young I hoped for someone who made my life an adventure... as it happens to Yukari

I really enjoyed this Live adaption, really want to read the Manga now. I watched this on a whim whilst doing some searching on what to watch next. I have watched over 200 Jdramas and movies now that i struggle, and i am so happy i found this. I fell in love with it within the first 5 minutes. The storyline was a bit forced and i wish they were more open about Isebella being transgender and George being bisexual but it is what it is. I enjoyed it not less. I recommend for all chick flick lovers out there that this is a good one for a night in either alone or with friends <3

Can you recommend a good jdrama from that list because I have only completed three Japanese dramas in the 4 years I have been watching dramas and that saddens me cuz I used to love watching anime and I still love reading mangas.

I am a bit conflicted about this movie. I really love the original source this was adapted from, especially how realistic the manga and anime portray relationships. Love can be very fickle, but it can also lift you to places you never even dreamed of going. It is very difficult to compress a several-volume manga into less than two hours of screetime, and unfortunately, this is the biggest shortcoming of the movie. The filming, music, cast and acting were really well done. I also applaud the set design, which was close to the original, yet had a fresh spark to it. The crew really made Yazawa Ai's world come alive.
However, the most important part, the dynamic between the characters, falls short. By that I don't mean to say it's a bad movie, because I think they wrote quite a steadfast script and adapted it well. But if you know the source, you most likely will be left disappointed at how superficial the characters seem in comparison. Where is the push-and-pull relationship between George and Yukari, that made our hearts ache and flutter equally in the manga and anime? Why don't we get to see any of the scars that the characters carried with them? Why can't I help but think that the ending that I had wished for so much in the original, doesn't make much sense in this movie, because their love simply wasn't portrayed deep enough to persevere? I constantly wished for 'more', something of that spark and pain and passion that made me fall in love with ParaKiss.

In conclusion I can say this is a nicely done romcom, especially if you do not know the original, but it definitely didn't leave an impression as strong as the source.

The acting was horrendously portrayed in this movie and the flow of the story felt forced and choppy. I'm a newbie to J-drama, have never read a manga, and this was my first J-movie. I sure hope this is not how all J-movies are produced. I gave Paradise Kiss a generous rating of 3 and do not recommend anyone watch it.

They left out a lot about the relationship which was a shame but I liked the ending because it was what I hoped would of happened in the manga story. I guess they wanted to tone it down, I find Asian movies and drama's are conservative and that is a good thing really. I know the original story so I know what they left out and what they changed and though I would have liked to see them show more of how their relationship developed, I am glad they gave me an ending I had wanted to see so mixed feelings.

Sad to say, this is not my favourite live-action film adaption of a manga series. I enjoy Yazawa Ai's manga series because of her writing and her realistic and dynamic characters. (For instance, from watching this film, I bet you wouldn't have guessed that George is openly bisexual or that Isabella is transgender (not a drag queen or cross dresser - a transgender woman).)

But yeah... I'm not usually the one to complain about changes in the film adaptions that differ from the original manga storyline - I understand that producers and such want to make that cash money and cater to a wider audience (I don't even care that much about the ending being different in the film then in the manga)... However, I don't think that Paradise Kiss (or any other of Yazawa Ai's works) should be so easily adapted into your typical mainstream romantic comedy, focusing on typical romcom clichés. Although the original manga series is a romance drama with its little comedic moments, it still has a deeper and more mature approach to not only the characters and their development but the overall story, making it feel more intimate and realistic. They took complex characters then just transformed them into your average romantic comedy archetypes - that's extremely disappointing. This film just presents you with a bright and predictable storyline and characters that aren't as interesting as they could be. Yes, this film is cute, but it still doesn't stand out from others in its genre. 5/10.

This is japan's version of "The Devil Wears Prada"... joke.. not really that similar but has some similarities.. anyways I think Keiko's acting is not that good in this movie.. I think she's a miscast in this movie.. sorry to her fans but that's my opinion.

Well as a fan who watched the anime for me the movie was too soft(keke) In anime all characters are crazy and they spread their love everywhere. But i love that they respect the plot and it's a sweet movie and i even cried! The music was great omg just perfect because the anime also has great music. And i must admit that in the movie the second lead guy is so hooooot! Team Yamamoto here!
