Dong Hae was raised in America by his beautiful but unmarried and mentally deficient mother, Anna Laker, who was adopted there. He goes to Korea for a short-track skating competition and brings his mother along in secret, arranging for her to be picked up at the airport by his girlfriend, Yoon Sae Wa, an ambitious TV announcer who harbours a secret disdain for Anna's disability. Dong Hae meets Bong Yi, a poor read moreassistant chef, when Sae Wa prioritizes her job and sends her to meet Anna instead. After Sae Wa later betrays him, Dong Hae begins to search for his father, creating a new family and finding new romance along the way.

Well I did it...I managed to finish it! It did take me a couple months...

Story: Even though it has familiar themes such as hotel setting, rivalry for power, baking, birth secret, jealous ex gf you want to punch etc. the writer did a great job of keeping each episode well paced, which made me want to keep watching. The ending is wrapped in a nicely neat bow for those who care;)The read more last 20 episodes felt dragged out though, that's pretty much the only critique for the story.

Acting/Characters: The acting was spot on for all the characters. Well except Lee Jang Woo who I can't seem to like in anything. It doesn't help that his character is a spoiled whiny chaebol who blames everyone else for all his "problems." The actress who played Saewa was really great with her character because I cringed every time her character came on, probably the most annoying character I've seen in a drama ever (and I've seen a lot!). My favorite characters were Sae Young & Tae Hoon Oppa(Alex). They were too funny and cute! As for the lead couple most of the time I felt like they had more of a cute chemistry meant for friends. I really like the lead actress though (saw her in King of Dramas first, really different characters). I forgot to mention the actress who played the mentally handicapped mother Anna. Excellent acting although her character got annoying towards the end as well...

Music: Not a lot of it, and not memorable either. It's to be expected though cause most daily dramas don't incorporate music.

Rewatch: It's rewatchable but I don't know when I'll have the time to sit through all those episodes again. I also don't care to watch all the annoying characters again so there's that...

Overall Smile, Dong Hae is worth a watch if you like family themed shows with a happy ending. It is possible to finish...if you dare!

This is my favorite Family drama out there! The storyline is amazing, the cast is great, the music is awesome, the plot is superb!
Characters: you've got
Donghae: (Ji Chang Wook) who plays a smart innocent nice guy who was ditched by his girlfriend of 6yrs and then he meets Bongi.
Saewa: the evil ex-girlfriend who tries to get in the family of the rich in order to make her self known read more (she is the evil girl in the drama).
Anna Laker (my favorite mother) who after an accident when she was young is stuck with the mindset of a 7yr old - but she is loveable, yet sometimes a bit too naïve/stupid in things she does - but the reason is obvious.
Donghae and Bongi are my reasons for loving this drama. Donghae is the best male lead ever - he is trustworthy and loveable! Someone who believes in his love no matter what.
159 episodes (35 min episodes each) so it's more like 45 episode drama.
I've watched it twice and want to re-watch it again - I even bought the drama! to me it is a Masterpiece!!!
I loved every character in this drama - but all in all Donghae and Bongi were still my favorites :D
I HIGHLY recommend this drama if you like Family dramas!

they are different but yet somehow certain things give you the same "feelings" as you're watching the drama - MDSY is definitely Unique and I don't think it could be "fully" compared to another drama. but there are "little" similarities in certain things - not a lot mind you - but if you liked MDSY - you should be the type that would like this drama too.

I really like that main couple in this drama always trust each other, they didn't misunderstand each other.

it`s really good but why ruin it with the villains always not one but a hundred steps ahead why make all other characters stupid ok Dong Hae and Bong Yi aren't stupid they're good in what they do but they're also clueless of what is going on around them and forgiving why(Sae Wa) always peeking through door and eavesdropping she knows everything while others as i mentioned before clueless and there is also too many useless near encounter scenes and whats wrong with Mobile phones being heavily used as an excuse to get the character out of specific situations by ringing in every intense scene am i supposed to be thrilled now.. NO i am not it such a cheap trick many drama used but here was way too much of it i was going to kill myself from frustration ,another problem when 2 characters talking to each other secretly and 3rd person enter the room listening to the conversation but the 2 idiots are clueless...... HI HELLO there is a huge bulk of a human being behind you can't you feel the aura in the place is different and that you're not alone any longer seriously in real life if a shadow or cockroach pass by or behind you you will feel it so why these asian drama writers or whoever responsible treat us viewer like fools, i know this is a drama and without all of this nonsensical mess it will be boring however there is limit to everything i personally accept a few nonsense in dramas that it is not labeled as fantasy/supernatural or paranormal. i gave it a 9 and feel sorry for myself for that.

The name James will become a nightmare for you....I cant remember how many times I heard that name it must have been well over 1000. I cringe now every time I hear the name James. Was a really nice family drama though.

"i never lie", and then she lies. they go out and it's the morning, they make it seem like they've been out for 10-20 minutes, but somehow it's dark outside. there's so much that doesn't add up in this show. and i'm sick of hearing "you better not_______, or i won't forgive you" and then not doing anything.
i don't know why i've come to like it though.

i'm on 84 now. it's kind of slow so I've been watching it at twice the speed; it seems quite eventful now. there's so many things that annoy me but the most consistent one is my hate for the Yoon family. their eldest daughter is a full blown manipulative bitch born solely to go to the depths of hell and make every good person around her suffer while she's at it.

if you want a summary, i can give it to you once i finish the series. it's quite good but it's too long. would have been better if it was 50-100 episodes. in terms of the story, it's got a decent plot that was stretched out too much. the amount of coincidences is unfathomable, but such is expected of a korean drama.
again, let me know if you want a summary.

Thank you, the only reason i added the drama was because i saw ji chang wook in it but ya that is expected from korean dramas. Will it be worth watching or should i not?

when i started it off i didn't like it (the first episode wasn't great for me) but then i got in to it and ended up completing it in 5 days (it's the holidays; so much free time. and i watched it in double speed). some things will frustrate you (there's comments i left above) but it's actually quite good. worth watching if you have the time to spare but it can be quite slow at times, so i'd advise watching it at 2X's the normal speed. don't hesitate to skip episodes, not everything is pivotal to the plot. again, it's worth watching. 8/10
