I read somewhere that the original was better and that if you liked it, you would find this one falls short to expectations. So, if you're planning on watching something that copies or exceeds the original, consider yourself forewarned.

Since I have not seen the original, I have to say I really enjoyed it. Then again, it was the first time I watched an all-action-packed Korean film.

The relationship between the main characters and the lengths they go through to show us the meaning of loyalty and "family," while everyone gets beat up, shot or blown up was surprising. Never thought I would feel emotional watching something like it.

The end...well...makes you glad it is finally over. I think it deserved a better finale and that the director just got tired and wrapped everything up by deciding to have everyone act out of character.

I don't really believe that the "rewatch" value should be considered as "brilliant", but I would watch it again.

A Better Tomorrow does have action but I can't say that it is the real draw. Mostly this is due to the action not being shown till the very end. The real story here is the relationship between the main characters. JJM, SSH, and KKW really got to show thier acting chops which surprised me because I thought this was just another action/ crime movie. At times I felt like I was read more watching a melodrama lol. Really though I love the characters and acting, the story/plot was just average which the long runtime didnt help. The ending was fitting for this type of movie so be prepared. Overall the actors are what carry this movie which makes it a good enough watch. I cant say if id watch it again or not just because the story wasnt bad but it wasnt amazing either. Worth watching once though.

It wasn't the best "action" movie I've seen but it was an ok watch - not one I'd watch again though b/c it didn't have enough depth. I started this movie b/c Song Seung Hun was in it and he became my favorite character in this - he reminded me a lot of his character from 'East of Eden' - even the way he looked from the middle of the movie to the end - very Dong Chul like ;) I'm glad I watched it if only for him alone ^^ The brothers were good too and I enjoyed watching them - although to me it felt like the brothers from 'Sirius' - older brother feels guilty and sacrifices his all for his younger brother. All in all the entire end "action" gun fight scene was my favorite part of this whole movie - b/c it's the only time we see all three of these men together. I predicted the end before I even began so I wasn't surprise when it ended like I thought it was going to. I never cried though - probably b/c the characters didn't have enough depth for me to do that... I loved the credits song ^_^ *and I too never saw the "original" so I have nothing to compare it to.*

I love the original and while this was missing the bromance that only John Woo can bring to a film (I mean, seriously. The original had the best bromance), it's about six million times sadder than the original. I sobbed like I did at the end of another John Woo movie, Bullet In the Head. Damn it, gangster movies. Why do y'all have to be so sad?
