It didn't give what it was supposed to give

*Sigh*
I was really looking forward to this one.

I rewatched Go-Go Squid just before I watched Dt. Appledog's time, and I wish I hadn't.

In short, it's no match for Go-Go Squid. My head hurts from how BORING it was. The plot was just okay. I was really hoping for more, but I think the original Go-Go Squid cast is what made it so GOOD. This cast just didn't have the same chemistry as the old one. The sets also didn't feel the same, KK headquarters felt... Cold? The GGS KK headquarters felt like home, but the set they chose to felt so empty.

I was glad to see Hu Yi Tian finally saying sentences, and his chemistry with Li Yi Tong wasn't too bad either. I was rooting for them the whole time but couldn't bear to watch their story through.

I think this drama might be interesting to people who have not seen Go Go Squid, but if you haven't seen it yet watch GGS first! Don't bother with this one :p

Filled with sweetness....

Well, it was so sweet that you might get diabetes because of it. Well, oversweet vanilla ice cream without any plot twists, turns, or surprises I know it wasn't a thriller to expect this but I mean when nothing special happens it becomes boring and that's what happened here. I really can't say that this can happen in anyone's life because this was too perfect in the way it felt unrealistic. So yeah it was definitely a fairytale which only can happen in dramas.

So if you like unrealistic stories, not many hardships or should I say there aren't any, no last episode breakups, no silly misunderstandings, and happily ever after ending then this show is perfect for you. Like it was a very perfect ending itself. Well, you don't yourself any pain or hurting while watching this. But yeah if you like to think rationally like real life isn't like that then Nah... don't waste your time here.

I would say Yi Tian didn't get the role as cold ML here his character was energetic, lively, and also cute. I really liked his acting here. But I really didn't felt the chemistry between the leads that much. I didn't get when Ai Qing fell for Wu Bai I mean that was like all of sudden. Yeah, both characters were likable. We even don't get evil bitch SFL or particularly SML I mean we have but he isn't bothering.

Okay so that was it... filled with sweetness fairytale well if you need an overdose of fluff then this is perfect for you. If not it's bland for me.

Not as good as season 1 but it’s worth the watch

How much you like this drama will largely depend on whether or not you watched season one. If you watched Go Go Squid season one then you probably won’t like this season as much as you did the first one. The storyline is identical so it’s a bit too predictable. But if you never saw the first season then you will probably fall in love with this drama since it will all be new to you. Let me explain.

This is not a continuation of season one nor is it a spinoff of the original drama. It follows the same exact storyline as season one except it comes from the viewpoint of different characters. Everything is seen through DT and Appledog’s eyes this time. We see what they experienced professionally and personally during season one which mainly focused on Gun and Tong Nian’s experiences. On paper it sounds good, but in reality it ends up lacking the originality and uniqueness that set the original Go Go Squid apart from the rest. It’s hard to stay focused and interested when you already know what’s going to happen.

When it started out with flashbacks alluding to what happened to the original team Solo I thought we were just being given a brief bit of background info on what happened in the original drama so we would know what was going on in this one. But the team Solo flashbacks kept going on. Then lots of scenes of Solo arguing with his ex over custody of their child pops up. Then Appledog shows an interest in being an announcer. Then Xiao Mi starts having trouble at SP and decides to retire. So by the time Xiao Mi gets hired on at K&K I finally realized that season two would not have its own original storyline. It shows a bit of what happened both before and after season one, but the majority of the drama focuses on all of the events in season one. It basically re-enacts a lot of the scenes from season one but with different actors and from a different perspective. The storyline became a bit too predictable for me. I felt like I was watching season one all over again except a lot of familiar faces were missing. Be prepared to watch over 30 episodes before the storyline picks up where season one left off and they go to the world championships.

What saved this drama was the romance between DT and Appledog. They have great chemistry and a sweet romance. Their relationship was both realistic and touching. If you like romcoms with real kisses and skinship then you’ll love seeing them together. It’s worth watching just to see their romance.

Even though I was a bit disappointed with the storyline, there were some things I really liked. Like when they explained why the club was named K&K. The reason the club was given that name is so sweet. And they also explained why Wubai chose the name DT. When you find out his reasons for his nickname you’re going to melt. I also loved seeing the Grandpa again. He’s just too cute in this drama. Seeing the story behind Appledog’s decision to be a commentator was nice. I also loved the multiple appearances by Gun and Tong Nian. It was nice to see them again. I really appreciate being able to see the end of their story too. And finally getting to see them compete in the world championships was so exciting!

I deducted 3 stars for three reasons. First, because a lot of the storyline is the same as season one. It’s not unique and lacks originality. Second, because the switch from CTF to robots took away from the story. Each guy on the CTF team had a specific role they personally played in each match. Watching them fight together as a team at the competitions was so touching. But with robots only 1 or 2 players can compete in a match. So it lacked the warmth and camaraderie that the CTF matches had when they competed together. Third, The inconsistencies in the two storylines bothered me. If you’re going to have the exact same storyline but have it seen from someone else’s perspective, then keep the storyline the same. Don’t change it. In season 1 Gun personally managed and lead the team to victory. But in season 2 they had DT do it. In season 1 Solo had been living in the original teams training facility for quite a few years. But in season 2 he buys the empty training facility hoping it will help him get back with Appledog. And in season 2 Xiao Mi’s adorable girlfriend (&Tong Nian’s best friend) doesn’t exist. In season one grandpa lives in Norway and occasionally visits them in China. In this one he lives full time in China. I really dislike inconsistencies and plot holes.

Even though I originally planned on deducting 3 stars, I added back half a star because of the ending. The ending just takes everything and wraps it up in a big bow. It was very touching to see everyone together again. It was one of the more satisfying endings to a drama.

Overall, this isn’t near as good as season one. Be prepared to be bored at times as you have to watch the same exact storyline be re-enacted. And the inconsistencies between the two seasons may bother you as they did me. But the great acting and amazing romance saves this drama. That along with a touching reunion with some of season one’s characters makes it worth the watch.

Even better than Tong Nian and Han Shangyan's Lovestory.

One of the most beautiful, most heartfelt drama I have ever watched.

I have no words, no possible conjunction between reality because it's half passed three am right now and I'm sobbing like a bitch because of how beautiful it is.

You know the feeling when you're so touched, when you're so moved and utterly consumed by something, a piece of your heart belongs with that and it is the .lay breathtaking feeling to be so blissfully happy in it. It cracks though, it cracks cus it ended, it cracks because a lifetime of this would never be enough. I want to have this, I want to watch this for the rest of my life, I want to show this to humanity, go teach them how about kindness, companionship, friendship, hardwork, dedication, dreams, how a man treats a woman and how a woman should treat a man.

One of the most incredible parts of this film is Wu Bai. Hu Yi Tian absolutely killed this role. He is not my favorite actor by a long shot, but he played Wu Bai perfectly. He showcased Wu Bai's personality, feelings, interests, emotions and character in the most stunning way.

Hu Yi Tian is not my favorite actor, but I marvel at one of his greatest features, his eyes. One of the reasons why he bailed Wu Bai is because how he showcased love, adore, sadness, hurt, despair, happiness in his eyes.

Look into Wu Bai's eyes and even a color blind man could tell how much he loves, how much he adores Ai Qing.

Both of these characters, absolutely amazing.

And one of the reasons why I love this show even more is how everyone is represented in this show, both SP and KK, each character from both teams aren't side characters, they're family, and you can't help but feel the utmlsy affection for them.

I wanted both SP and KK to win everytime because both teams and each character filled a place in my heart.

A beautiful fact in this show is how they demonstrate teamwork, how they demonstrate leaning onto someone else and knowing they'll hold you up if it's romantic, friendship or even colleges. It is utterly beautiful.

Yes SP and KK are rivals, but they also are the best of friends with each other. I was absolutely stunned by this. No one, I have not seen any piece of film or literature that shows how much you respect a 'rival' of yours, and the trust they held for one another.
When one looses, you don't bathe in glory, instead you hold them up and thank them for an exciting show and an interesting one for the next.

Yes there were some super corny scenes that made me cringe with joy and I will admit, the climax of this show was definently slow and very plot focused, meaning their line of work won the center role but even then I couldn't help be in captured in awe of it.

The screenwriter of this film deserves praise and award. She created a stunning love story, a stunning profile of love between family, friends, partners and colleagues. I wish I could give them a hug because this is such a devastatingly beautiful show.

Absolutely, no words could never ever be given definition to the utter beauty and love I have for this show. I cried for how beautiful this show was. I cried for these characters, and I cried for one of the best happy ever after.

Appledog's Time, thank you for this beautiful show and you will not be forgotten.

MUST WATCH...ONE OF THE MOST WHOLESOME SEQUEL/SPINOFF EVER!

I just finished watching the drama and I am writing this review with such huge smile on my face...:) I see many negative reviews and comments and wonder whether we watched the same drama! Yes I agree, the first couple of episodes didn't impress me as much as I was expecting but as the show progressed I was pleasantly surprised by how great it became.

Story : As everyone knows this story, unlike GGS 1, focuses mainly on DT and Appledog's romance more the than the gaming aspect(Not that the gaming part was neglected). The story progressed smoothly enough considering GGS1 had already set up the timeline except for some loopholes. I personally was heavily invested in both the OTP romance and the sports.

Romance : Main couple (DT and AQ) as well as secondary couple (SZ and AJ) both had pretty good tracks. OTP had the most screentime as well as the 99% of the kisses in the drama which they carry off tremendously well. After SY in ALSB, I felt HYT had the most chemistry with the FL here. They looked natural and most importantly there was no unnecessary drama in their relationship once they started dating.
This is the area where it majorly differs from GGS 1 as GGS 1 hardly had any romantic moments. On the other hand GGS2 is filled with them...:)

Acting : All the actors and actresses were great and special shout out to HYT for another adorable performance (DT is probably every girl's dream boyfriend...:)

Music : Excellent soundtrack.

That said there were a few instances where I was really frustrated like the period when SP was winning...I just wanted it to get over and K&K to win the championship...

Rewatch Value : I'm going to rewatch this once again tomorrow so I guess a solid 10?:)

If you are in a dilemma as to whether or not watch this show, don't hesitate anymore and go watch it..Trust me, you'd come out of it smiling:)

Never ending staring contest

As much I love the actress (she's in Bloody Romance) and as much as I enjoyed the first Go Go Squid this was a struggle for me to continue. I'll probably play on the side and eventually finish it.

Boring start and really not romantic if you think through:

1. Love at first sight feeling <-- ML liked her for 7 years prior to meeting her. Meets her instantly reaffirming he only wants to be with her (w/o any deeper understanding) but I guess that's "romantic" to some? He goes away boom ! another 3 years pass by and that's a total of 10 years already!!! They meet again the story continues.
4 ep in and already lots of staring ............... w/o words ............ just staring with some drama blinks.
14 ep in still not together but lots lots lots eye meets eye w/o words .... frozen in ep.

2. Supporting couple: the sister & Grunt <--- again immediate like w/o no interaction? He hijacks her drink, hoovers over her while she just stares at his hotness and that's how they met. Ep later in the bar she asks him while drunk "Do you like me?" and makes you wonder did you miss all the interaction in between?
First kiss ------------- kissing a drunk girl 1/2 conscious ? yeah NOT romantic

Story so boring compared to Go Go Squid 1 but there are quite a few fine looking faces if that can hold your interest.

**Update** Amazing I finished it at 2x speed because I am not a quitter. But nothing happened. Plot stayed boring as ever.

It won’t make sense

Generally I found it quite engaging. Some funny parts lol, romance progression was quite good. I like shows where the ML is focused and intent on his woman and doesn’t stray. Both leads however lacked chemistry, and HYT should learn and rehearse kissing scenes... seriously 😂There were a lot of kissing scenes but both very stiff and unnatural.

Storyline was ok until the last 1 mins of the drama! I can’t believe Appledog actually played for SP team- opposite and rival her husband🤦🏻‍♀️ She should have joined K&K and make the team invincible. 😎 At least there was no silly break up scenes. The game tournaments were intense and interesting, but I personally preferred Gank Your Heart - Wang Yibo😍 (but the romance progression in that show was bad!)

All in all, just watch for a light hearted funny game show.

"Follow your dreams; you are not alone." ~ Wu Bai

I want to say from the get-go that I have not watched Go Go Squid 1, so I won't be comparing them. I watched Go Go Squid 2 as a stand-alone drama, so that is the context of my review.

The story started out a bit slow, so that I put it on hold to finish another drama and had started a second one, before getting back to GGS2. But the pace and story picked up at around episode 14 or 15, and from then on, I was able to enjoy it and looked forward to each episode.

What I Like:
1) The love story of Wu Bai and Ai Qing - I like how their relationship develops and grows throughout the story. They have a fair share of sweet and romantic scenes, and their chemistry is palpable. Although Ai Qing is a few years older than Wu Bai, it's not an issue and they look good together.

2) Wu Bai is the ideal green flag, the almost perfect admirer and boyfriend. He is considerate, thoughtful, seemingly clueless but sweet, goes all in in the relationship, and devoted to his girl even before they became a couple. Hu Yi Tian's portrayal of Wu Bai is just right; he was able to bring out the nuances of his character.

3) Ai Qing is one of the pioneers in the world of robot combat and looked up by many, one of whom is Wu Bai. Li Yi Tong is convincing as Ai Qing. She was able to convey the different emotions and struggles of Ai Qing as she embarks on her journey to rediscover her dream and make a comeback, and finding love in the process.

4) This drama shows ordinary people with big dreams, who are passionate about their field, in this case, professional robot combat. They're in for the win, not only for themselves but also for their country. I'm not a gaming fan, but I appreciate their passion and commitment.

5) Supporting characters who add humor and flavor to the story, such as Shen Zhe (Wang An Yu) and Ai Jing's (Nina Wang) romance, Team K&K and Team SP members.

6) The OST is great! The songs are catchy and fitting for the various moods in the drama.

Some Quotable Quotes:
1) "Follow your dreams; you are not alone." (沿着梦想走,你不是孤单一人。)

2) "I have met many people and was never interested, but I fell in love when I met you."
(我见众生皆无意,唯有见你动了情。)

Final Verdict: If you like a feel-good, mature romance with a touch of comedy and competitive gaming, and don't mind a love story where the FL is slightly older than the ML, then I would recommend this. Also, despite a slow start, the pacing picked up around one third into the story, and I was able to enjoy this drama.

Best drama of 2021 so far!!

I just completed watching all episodes and guess what I am already missing this show. Honestly, its very disappointing to see people here just comparing this with GGS which is most stupidest thing. Well let me tell u i have watched GGS and have read novel too. And then when i started watching this drama at first I felt bit disappointed but gave myself a chance and continued. Best thing i have done!!

Story:-Complete story is based on DT and Appledog And they done given respect to original novel. Although theme is changed to Robotics which is excellent as it allows viewers to understand game which is better than CTF.

Acting:-Everyone performed their role very well. Huge shoutout to our Main Couple, Hu yitian and Li Yi tong thier chemistry here is on point no doubt li yi tong is Hu yitian's best pairing after Shenyue!!! Secondary couple are cute too. Support characters are excellent here.

Music:-Even 10 seems to low considering the kind of Music, OSTs this drama has!! Even better than GGS. I probably never skipped opening and ending theme. One of best in recent times.

Rewatch value:-I would like to give 10 again. Although i just finished watching i'am already missing it. There aren't any unnecessary breakups, misunderstanding, etc

Just consider this drama as stand alone and enjoy watching. U won't be disappointed unless u compare this with GGS and cry why they changed cast, story, actors, lol.

An average C-drama minus the headaches/anger you get from the evil characters

This isn't your average C-Drama. There are no evil characters (well, except there is that stalker girl for our secondary couple), no evil mother/father, no rich business guy who annoys/bothers the main girl in the first half of the drama, no long term misunderstandings, and best of all, no last minute troubles/problems for our main leads. Chinese dramas that does this gives me frustration and I usually quit on those until the last few episodes are released.

This drama didn't do that so if you're looking for something in that vicinity like me, give this drama a try. It's a light hearted drama filled with the support of team members, friends, & family (for the most part). Thought the robot competition is part of the plot, I say about 30% is actually focus on that. 70% is about the romance between the main leads and let me say, it's mostly a one-sided love until the other person gives that person a chance and recognized their feelings.

Now this does backfire a bit because without the robot competition, there are a lot of bland/boring scenes in this drama. For me, I struggle to finish it because within each episode, the ending of that episode should make you want to watch the next episode. Well, there were a couple of times this drama didn't do that, to the point I would've probably been okay not finishing it. It almost seemed like there were no more ideas and the writers decided on doing filler episodes instead up until the last episode which was the wedding.

So overall, it's the not the best I've seen in terms of C-dramas, but it's not bad either. A lot of happy and funny scenes with romance as well. Just a bit bland in some episodes from time to time.

Don't pay attention to ratings, WATCH THIS NOW.

I finished the drama and I already want to watch it again, so rewatch value is a definite 10. Music is another 10 because seriously all the songs were so good, I'll be listening to them outside the drama as well.

Casting is another definite 10. Appledog HAD to be recasted, season one's Appledog had zero chemistry with the ML and was much older than what the character was supposed to be, so I honestly don't see how some people wanted the cast to stay the same. This drama is true to the novel's portrayals and I think those who rate it low haven't even given it a chance on its own, without wanting it to be a direct sequel.

This is NOT a sequel, it's a spin-off. And if you read the novels, you'll realise that this is actually the main story. GGS1 was based on the third novel, with all the backstory being taken from the first two novels, where DT and Appledog are the main characters.

The chemistry is amazing (I've seen Yitian in another three dramas, but this is his best pairing, by far), the acting is great (the looks of longing will have you melting, I promise you), and the story is so good, you won't find yourself ever getting annoyed. No stupid breakups. No immature characters and petty fighting. Only one fight that was quickly resolved and was perfectly understandable. Great characters overall from both teams, with some growing up involved. Lots of nail biting while watching the fights and some sad moments when things didn't go as planned.

I'm too excited and happy to make this review coherent, but after watching what was the best last episode ever in a cdrama (two favourite couples together side by side), I think I'm allowed some spazzing.

Watch this and forget about season one. You don't need to have watched it before. You could watch it later on its own if you like the universe, like I do. Have an open mind and you'll definitely have fun: Who doesn't like a boy winning his first love after ten whole years. It's the best storyline!

The only reason I'm giving the storyline a lower rating than ten is because they could have explained the teams better, I still have questions about who exactly does what on the team. But I guess it's understandable since they had to change from esports to robotics, the transition couldn't be that smooth. Still, a minor detail, the rest of the story is great and I didn't find myself getting bored at all!

freakishly weird. A lot comparison to season 1

This is the first time I try to write the review before I've finish watch the drama. But this is also the first drama between season that have that much different. For the fans of Go Go Squid season 1, watching this drama really weird, because not only the cast different but also overall theme of the drama is different, from hackers game to robot competition. I don't know will I feel more weird or not through out the drama. Cross my finger it will not and I'll gonna enjoy the drama.

Learning from people in the YouTube talking about this drama, I just find out that this actually 3 series book, & weirdly go go squid 1 is the third book of the series, this season 2 is the second book & the first book not even in drama yet. Wonder what's in the first book & will it appeared in our TV or not...? That's why this season plot is about before the season 1, during the season 1 & after the season 1 story.

After watching this season here are my comment:

What I like from this season:
+ The friendship between all the robot sportsman we really can feel it. They help each other when needed, even though they are opponent in one point.
+ Even though the cast is changing a lot from season 1, at the end I really glad they change some of the cast, especially the female lead. If they still use the same actress with the season 1, yeah I think she will not be too much suitable to be the female lead in this season.
+ We finally get to see who grunt / shen zhe (SZ) mysterious girlfriend. In season 1, she mention a lot but we never get to see her.
+ Go go squid 1 & 2 have not such thing as love rival, even though here solo / wang hao (WH) supposed to be the love rival, but WH moved too slow... Uniquely in this season the second lead (SZ) whose given love rival / crazy ex-girlfriend situation.
+ I really like the changing in KK base camp. Here is more cool.
+ They not always order takeaway, but zhou yi cooking in the base. And i really glad the writer not forget the fact that wu bai (WB) can't cook, in the season 1 we can see that WB can't even cut vegetable when Han Shang Yan (HSY) asked him to help.
+ A lot of plot being explained in this season, like why Ai Qing (AQ) suddenly became commentator in the competition between KK & SP
+ They mostly used the name of the character not the nick name, like solo here mostly called WH, grunt here mostly called SZ, etc. In the season 1, i even don't know grunt & solo real name.
+ The last episode when in the wedding the mc asked who will be champion in next year, WB really put in the weird circumstances, but he got answer so funny yet correct as the groom ^_^

At first i really glad they pay enough attention with the time frame in go go squid 1, but unfortunately the more toward the ending the time frame a little bit messed up. The messed up time frame & plot with go go squid 1 that I notice:
- The all star competition where WB, SZ & WH compete. It's supposed to be after national competition. And a little bit disappointed HSY not included in the competition, really hoping I can see all of HSY, solo, AQ included in the competition.
- Grandpa Han supposed to be already go back to Norway at some times. But in here he stay in china all the time.
- The year KK invented in season 1 is already 2 years at least, but in here is not even 1 year.
- Mi Shao Fei invited to be the leader at KK is different from season 1, of course our main lead from each season must be responsible for this ^_^, in season 1 is HSY, in here is WB :P.
- The disappearing of WB & HSY. They both disappearing a lot in the drama, in the season 1 WB who is disappearing & give the team to HSY to be take care of, in this season of course HSY who is disappearing & give the team to WB to be take care of.
- The changing in HSY & Tong Nian (TN) style. Yang Zi in this season a little bit fat, while li xian look a little bit older, especially in wedding scene where we can see his wringkle near the eyes :p. Yeah yeah i know they are not the main lead here. But i still glad the writer didn't forget to put the bracelet back in TN hand, even though still in the wrong hand ^_^. Little detail that makes me smile :)
- All of the kk's member still so afraid with HSY. In the season 1 they supposed already not too afraid with HSY anymore. HSY & WH relationship also supposed to be better already.

Ok. lets try to apart ourselves to the fact this is a sequel Go Go Squid 1. I think this is a boring drama, maybe because, like several people write in here, this drama is lack of problem, the romance just went a little bit too smoothly. They even not try to make the problem that AQ & WB who from very strong rival club a bigger problem, yeah I know at some point that maybe the plus, we can see how devoted WB to AQ. But they simply have no problem as couple & that frankly is what make this drama quite boring. Maybe if they make a little bit problem here & there & cut some boring unnecessary scene, the drama will gonna a little bit better. The romance itself for me not so much a big deal. I've watch more interesting drama with more romance scene.

I glad I watch this drama, but if this isn't the season 2 of go go squid I don't think I'll gonna watch this drama, or maybe this drama will gonna a little bit down on my list, because i don't too like robot competition theme that they used. I skipped a lot their competition scene. What I feel the most missing from this season is funnily is Demo, Xiao demo. No demo who is childish, they make one / Zhou Yi became a little childish and dumb.

I also really like the quote from AQ: dream is like a seed, they hibernate but never die.
