Came for the comedy, and stayed for the life lessons (and the zombie shark)

This movie was so funny in unexpected moments and also deep when I wasn’t prepared for it. I know it isn't that deep, and that I shouldn't take it so seriously, but I am truly fond. As someone who deeply hated my previous job (which I think a lot of people relate to), it was so touching for Akira to light up with pure joy after finding out he didn’t have to go to work, and even funnier for him to act so carefree in a zombie apocalypse as a result.

Even though every other aspect of this movie only gets an 8.0, something in my soul tells me to give it an overall 9.0. And I think it's because it hits so deeply with me in some aspects.

Even though the parallel between the zombies and Akira trudging through his job was pretty obvious, it still hit very hard when the movie directly stated and confronted it. Every adult on MDL who has ever worked a full-time job has likely struggled with work-life balance and has wished they could fall sick (or worse) so they could rest for just one day, but feel guilty and eager to be productive on days when they are actually ill. And, like in the movie, it’s often the people around us to remind us that we can’t be robots all the time and need to live life for ourselves.

The entire list Akira wrote was endearing and I’m seriously considering making one of my own (I am also one of those few people who have never made a bucket list). I love a good montage, so seeing items on the list being crossed off was satisfying. I loved the cinematography and production. The zombies were great and looked realistic (as much as zombies can be). All of the acting was great as well. The OST surprised me a lot, and I have saved some songs to my playlist. This movie WILL make you smile and laugh.

Conclusion: zombie shark — you should watch it!

This was a very entertaining series. Although the comedy aspect was minimal, the script was great. There was a slight romance element, but it was not overpowering. I love the analogy of work life and the zombie apocalypse. The main theme is to enjoy life and not let work make you into a zombie. It had a wonderful cast which did a great job portraying their characters. The cinematography, special effects, and FX make-up was outstanding.

Random Note:

Warning! There are some gory scenes, but it’s not that bad. However, my tolerance level of gore is pretty high because I grew-up watching horror films of the 80’s and 90’s.

Last 20 minutes gave me Sharknado vibes

This movie was nothing to run home about. The last 20 minutes were abysmal. The acting from the trio was good but some of the side characters were too intolerable, especially the team leader. I don't like how the actor was screaming his lungs out in every scene. Overacting may work for anime but it is not suitable for live action. I am guessing this was released alongside the anime to promote the manga heavily. The makeup on the zombies itself was good but I didn't like the CGI shark. Not to mention Akira becoming a power Ranger at the end was too comical even for this show. Akira makes stupid mistakes.

one of the best movies I watched this year

I played it with the thought it will be more horror, but the comedy catch me off guard. I really enjoyed every scene from this movie. Will I rewatch it someday, surely yes. The soundtrack is really nice and every song suited the right moment. Really recommend this movie if u like zombie apocalypse and comedy in once! The shark was something I never thought I'll see in a movie like that. The life lessons in this movie was good too, if u deeply understand them. This movie grab me from the first minutes, which is really good, so I deeply recommend to watch it!

If u r not into anime than u might like this

So zom100 has an anime too which is still ongoing. And if I compare the anime with this, anime is better. So firstly, the casting is good. They did a good job in finding the cast but the dialogue delivery was a bit weak. So japanese movies and dramas r known for their story more than their acting skills. Acting is still a weak point for japanese entertainment which is getting better slowly. So this movie too had those bad acting moments.
Talking about the story, so as I said the anime is going on too so that is more true to the manga. But the movie is somewhat a vague representation of manga. The movie is not completely based off the manga but only some specific scenes have been taken and patched together. Well I m not saying the movie should have been an exact copy of the manga but I m just pointing out the details.
Next the CG is hilarious 😂 I mean if u have seen some CG japanese movie or live actions u would know how badly it is done. So I would not talk about the CG.

So coming to conclusion, I would say u can watch it but it's just a pass time. U shouldn't be expecting something out of the world story before watching this. Re-watch value is 2, just bcuz I'm being generous.

Overall, a disappointing movie with good cast but bad direction.

B-Movie, with heart.

So for movies, it's pretty B-rated. That being said, the main cast does a great job and I did root for Tendo. I took joy in his joy, and I understood his zombie-like work mentality. Some of the side actors left something to be desired. The music was nice but didn't always feel like it was used as well as it should have or could have been. While I was having a good time, the final zombie problem in the movie was very sharknado and overly ridiculous. I mean, if they made a sequel, I'd probably watch it. I do like Eiji Akaso. But the movie itself could have been better.

Also, shows keep trying to suggest Eiji Akaso is a fighter or an athlete, and I continue to laugh at his lack of muscle mass. I try to suspend disbelief, but he does not look like someone who used to be a running back in American football.

Warning: Anime Onlies Stay Back!

Right off the bat let me just advise those that are watching the anime and have not read the manga to skip this movie. Aside from the fact that more than half of the movie is a spoiler, there are many differentiations. I have not read the manga. Kept saying I was going to and never did. I don't know which adaptation is closer to the manga if either are. However, there were scenes I was looking forward to that were skipped and character changes that are unclear to me. l will probably make some slight comparisons to the anime without giving details. If that's ok with you, read on.

For those who have no clue about Zom 100 here's a better synopsis: Akira Tendou graduated college and lands a job in his dream company. Unbeknownst to Tendou-kun, this dream company is a exploitive and treat their employees horribly. A year later the once effervescent, happy go lucky Tendou is but a shell of his former self. Without the courage to quit he lives each day dreading his job until one morning a zombie apocalypse hits and while people are running in fear Tendou is running with joy in his heart because he never has to report to that job again. The now happy Tendou has a new lease on a life and begins his bucket list of things to do before he becomes a zombie. That's it in a nutshell.

Although the anime is only on episode 3, I admit I think it's better than this movie. The movie tries to pack in too much information and moves too fast. Because of this I think little things are lost, especially some of the laughs. For instance Tendou and Kencho's escape from the roof is cut. It's completely different and no where near as amusing as it is in the anime. A few of the characters have been tweaked and or changed for reasons unknown. Honestly, I thought the Zom100 live action was a series not a movie. I would never have watched it. Even as a movie it shouldn't have outpaced the anime the way it does. They should've either held it's release or made a 2 part movie. The production quality was ok for Japan. One day I have hope that they will stop their traditionally bad habit of filming through yellow lenses. To me it cheapens their movies. Unfortunately, there are only a handful of Japanese directors that can command the budgets to film how they want and the director of Zom100 is not one of them. The makeup and special efx were pretty good. The ending was little too condensed for lack of a better word. (To be true there are a plethora of better words but at 2:30am my brain is refusing to tell them to me.) It's as if the director is saying 'we're hoping for a part 2, but if not at least it's an ending.' The thing is Zom 100 is still being published. No one knows the ending except the mangaka, maybe.

The cast was good enough...I guess. To be honest I don't feel like we got to know them well enough. Don't get me wrong Akaso Eiji was very good as Tendou, but I just didn't care about his friends. They didn't give us the backstory or the development needed to care about them. Had they not changed the end of how Tendou and Kencho escape the zombie's we would have had more background on Kencho and learned much more of his personality. At the end when Kencho reveals his dream, it comes out of no where because they skipped everything that would have let the viewer know this fact about him. Make sense? (Sometimes not using spoilers is a difficult thing.) Here's one thing that was just asinine: they changed the college sport Tendou and Kencho played in college from rugby to American football. No offense to Akaso, but he's way too scrawny to be a lineman. My grandma could blow him away and she died 30 years ago. It made me chuckle when he said it and it really made me giggle when they showed a flashback. Little leaguers are more buff than Akaso. Mind you there's a tackle scene that looks pretty damn good, but it's obviously a stuntman. Granted, rugby probably wouldn't have worked either due to this actor's build. They probably should've changed the sport to hockey, soccer, or flag football maybe.

The music is eh. It wasn't used as artfully as it could and should have been. I have no intentions of watching this again. I may re-watch a scene or 2, but there was nothing in this that excited me and made me want to see it again.

If this was a theatre, I'd tell you save your money. Since it's on Netflix, all I can say is watch the anime. Three episodes of the anime are more entertaining than 2 hours of this movie. At least wait so you don't spoil things for yourself. As an adaptation of a story I'm enjoying, this movie gets a 4.5-5. As a stand alone movie. I'd say 6 to 6.5 and that's generous.

Long movie and Average at best

Nothing and I mean nothing new here. 1000 times overdone.. the survival horror/zombie.
They tried to do it well but failed by the end.
When a movie is 2 hours and feels like 4, you know you're not really entertained and captivated. They dragged some plots way too long and the ending? OMG some scenes were excruciating.
All that I'm going to say is that even if this is a zombie movie (ie: not real) an 8 legged shard is pushing it.
Did I have a nice time? Meh, average
Would I watch this again:? never ever.

Funny in its own way

I started this because of some clips that went viral on TikTok. Tendo was so cute and funny that i just NEEDED to watch this.

It had good humor and good action scenes, the scene with a zombie shark surprised me but it was such a good fighting scene. I’m really happy they didn’t unnecessarily kill important characters like Kencho for example.

Throughout the movie I thought they would sacrifice him for shock value like they usually do in zombie movies but i’m really happy none of that happened.

I’m also really happy that they remained as a trio together. Such a cute friendship between each of them!!! And i’m glad Tendo got to have his dream job in the end hehe

If you’re more into serious movies, this one might not be your cup of tea.

Although the beginning had potential, throughout the film the quality of the story decreased gradually.

I understand that a zombie movie does not require realism (especially if it is a comical one) but I guess that a legged shark is where I draw the line. Unless we’re talking about Junji Ito.

Besides, some characters did not add anything to the story and were not well explored, in my opinion.

However, the idea of the bucket list was fun and the social criticism regarding overwork and "zombie" workers was interesting.

Enjoy! 🦈🦵🏻

..YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE..

..at first, I prefer to watch the live action than the anime simply because the ML is more matured than the anime (he just like a highschooler for me)
.
..I am expected a lot looking for the answer on the whole film but I failed - how this apocalypse happen and does it end. . .but it's a nay..
.
..yet, I do enjoy the beginning and the end of the movie, it seems like making a wishlist that you want you to do before you end your life..
.
..the dream, hope, and promise are here - the bonds between your friend why you need to move forward despite the problem and people hinder you..
.
..the main antagonist here, his face is just so fit on the role, just amazed..
.
..only the part I didn't like, seems weird for me and so impossible (well in movie everything is possible) when the ML battel with a very big shark plus the zombie inside - that shark is so weak despite its size and the ML doesn't have superpower, just only his procective suit over his slim body - it's a meh for me, sorry..
.
..all in all, I just happy to want another live action movie, love the casts, the stories, even the ost..

Zombieshark?!

Okay I had no idea what I was expecting when I watched this show. I came for Eiji Akaso and was hit with something crazier.

The makeup in this movie is amazing! The zombies look insane and to be honest, I actually watched this movie in two parts. I felt sick looking at these zombies and had to resume it later. Maybe I just have a really weak stomach but their faces are awesome.

The visuals of this movie aswell as the makeup are great too. The colours are vibrant and they look so cool because they all contrast well with eachother. Even though I haven't watched the anime, from what I've seen, they match the animation well.

I wasn't expecting to see some naked zombies but we'll overlook that because I felt so bad for Akira when his office romance went straight out the window! However, with his other relationships, it was great to see them grow throughout the show. The same with Akira himself, he really developed and overcame the trauma of his failed football game. I mean, I was never expecting him to use that to fuel his fight against a zombie shark but it was great character development!

At the end of the movie, Akira was happy, I was happy and everyone was happy really. To be honest, you'd have never thought there was a zombie infection going around since it ended so positively!

I don't think I'll watch the anime but if you can pack this much into a movie and still make it incredible then what's the need to? Watch the movie Zom 100 right now!!
