watchable
this was my first republican era (?) drama. i was a little surprised by the level of mostly realistic violence. i dont object to it and it's pretty mild, i'm just not used to seeing it in C-dramas.the cast are all serviceable. the ML is both charismatic and problematic. the story is engaging, but not particularly well done or creative. it gives serious paperback romance novel energy.
this is a short review b/c there's not much to say. it's not spectacular, but it knows the assignment and got the job done with what was there.

Romance doesn't get cheaper than this.
After watching 24 episodes of this, I have finally come to this conclusion.Story: 5/10
I genuinely feel like this plot had a lot of potentials. I liked the idea that she somehow entered the house of the people she wanted to get revenge on, and it initially had a very scheming and plotting vibe to it. I really thought that was how the story would go, and I was invested. Not until the FL started making funny decisions and ruining the entire vibe the first few episodes managed to build. From there, everything only went downhill. SMH.
Acting/Cast: 7/10
All things being considered, I would rate the cast pretty high because I believe they really did a good job considering this is their first main role. the actor playing the ML, in particular, was really convincing when it came to building the image of his character. That was nice. the FL was good too but was nothing too notable. Honestly though with the scripting, I don't know if any actor or actress would have been able to make a good thing out of it so I believe they did pretty well.
Music: 8/10
The music was actually very good for a low-budget movie such as this one. I especially liked the opening soundtrack... Or maybe it's just because I am a fan of such types of music.
Overall, it's pretty okay if you don't take it seriously. (I don't think anyone can take it seriously even if they wanted to). Anyways, I would never rewatch this. The ML came off as way too sleazy for my liking, no matter what justification they wanted to give. I don't think I want to put myself through that again.

THE ENDING WAS SO CONFUSING
I seriously fell in love with this drama while watching it. It had such a steamy plot and the acting was pretty great. It had all the cliches of a typical general/historical drama. It had the romance and the suspense and even the big fight scene where the enemy takes a small amount of leverage just to lose it all in the end. It was amazing. Even the character's plot development was great. The sister? She was a villain but turned good to save Tingyao and take revenge on the enemy after pretending to be crazy for most of the show. That was unexpected and amazing- I still can't believe how good it was overall.I have nothing to complain about other than the ending. It was so confusing and I'm still not sure what happened. Did Tianyi die or is he alive? They said Tingyao was his wife, so did they make their marriage official? What was that horrible ending? I'm still so angry about it. Pissed actually. Someone- please explain this to me. Maybe I missed something.
Anyways, it's still worth the watch. You'll be thinking about it forever. It's one of those dramas that will always stay with you because of how extraordinary it is. I just recommend skipping the ending.

The best miniseries to binge watch.
I just finished watching it and I can't stop thinking about it. It had a very short length. I could watch 30 episodes of an hour to be honest. The actors are so good, I wonder why the male lead, despite being a great actor and good looking, has not gotten other big projects. He was 10/10. The FL is also cute and perfect for her role. I binged watch it. Tbh I really like dramas from Chinese republican era, they always have things to do with military and those costumes are also fantastic. I am a fan of the actors now and it's sad that they have not starred as leads in other dramas. The story was so good. The male lead might seem ruthless and annoying in start but he had reason to do that. He was sincere and protective of the FL. It felt bad how he was pretending to be rude and murderous while in reality he was a sensitive and caring person yet again he thought he had to do that to protect his loved ones. I understand why some people find it cliche but to me it was fun. The ending was bittersweet but it was also fine. Many people speculate that there will be a season 2 but I don't think so. I am glad that I watched it and I would recommend to those who can bear to watch love story that might seem overdone but is addictive.Was this review helpful to you?

I admit I only watched for the ML
I dislike this short-episode format. This story had potential but too much in too little time made it fail for me. Scriptwriters have to do a better job pulling the pieces together and not wasting time on unimportant arcs (the evil stepsister after she served her purpose, the domineering mother - too many wasted scenes, the evil villain - too much time on his poor me story). The chemistry between the ML & the FL was there - but very much so because the ML was so smokin' hot!! I really watched the drama through to look at him. I hope we will see him in many dramas to come, and I would love to see him in a historical drama.And can we talk about the ending? So many ways that could have been different - and what a let-down after so much time was wasted previously. And whatever that 'bonus' episode was meant for? It was a complete waste of time. The production was pretty good - costumes, sets, action, and the acting was pretty good too. It's the writing and the direction that fell short. To be honest, I only gave it as high a rating as I did because of Dai Gao Zheng.

Better than dark romance books imo
NOOOO CUZ THE ENDING. BRO I LOVED THIS, NO WAY. IF I KNEW THIS EXISTED I WOULDNT HAVE READ SO MANY DARK ROMANCE BOOKS HONESTLY-I NEED SEASON 2 RN. IT BETTER HAPPEN OR I'LL THROW HANDS
Like this is the first actual movie I binge watched without any breaks at all! (only bathroom breaks) AND THAT DOESNT HAPPEN LIKE AT ALL IN MY CASE. I heard about rumours that early next year season two will be out and IM THRILLED!

Yan'Er s ''stupidity'' was justified, she didnt deserve to die imo
BUT FANGS GRANDSON??? THE GOVERNANTS NEPHEW?????? You bet I have a love-hate relationship with that character. I never had one of those before. I either HATED a villain or LOVED a villain, there was never anything in between-

An FL with strong emotions and Ml with CRAZY love
Actually the first one hour was thrilling and intresting. It was reasonable that why Fl had strong emotions. LIKE HER WHOLE FAMILY DIED GUYS!.When the story started to progress, it went great But downhill for our fl.The Ml would appear out of nowhere and be like
"oh, it's my woman!"
I really liked the other side of the second lead. He did his job great.There was no overreacting in his side. Actually I think the actors portrayed the character and their feelings WELL. Just bear with the fl guys

Oh my god. I have no idea whatsoever i am gonna do with my life now. "Maid`s Revenge" was such a thrilling, dark, enfuriating, addictive, smart and sexy epic romance that gave me everything i craved in this genre. Tingyao is a cute heroine with a wonderful character developement but it is the beautiful alpha warlord Male Hero Tian Yi that totally took my breath away with his stunning looks and acting. He was raw male power and oozed so much sex appeal i had to take my eyes off the screen sometimes because i had to FREAKING BREATH with how beautifully dangerous and sexy he was.
Gao Zheng did this character so well that i am stunned. His acting was so natural and fitting of this powerful character that execuded power, authority, strength and such sex appeal, but also showing his heart through his eyes. When he looked at his female heroine with such agony and longing i just wanted to cry. He is one of my favourite on-screen heroes. Never gonna get over him, just sayin.Ahh

This drama is very short, only about 9-10 minutes for each episode with a total of 30 episodes. I finished it in just a couple of hours, skipping the beginning and ending theme. As the drama is short, it doesn't waste time on unnecessary side character story. Mostly just focus on the main characters. The story is nothing special, but it was action packed and leave you wanting to continue to the next episode until the end. The main FL and ML's acting is pretty good i thought, especially the ML. Bonus: he's super hot! I don't remember watching him in other drama, but he's apparently a supporting character in some of the dramas that I've watched, but not memorable. Overall, it's an entertaining short story with a gorgeous male lead!

Positive :Story line is strong. I love this slow burning romance. The expression of main male lead is outstanding. And other actors also doing well. In💗 ep 22 When they hugged, the female lead perfectly fit in male lead arms💗
Negative : It should be a full drama series, not a web series.
Well,as I'm a foreigners, i Don't like chinese song so I rated it low but who like chinese songs can find it interesting.
*** It's not some typical chinese drama. It really a must watch drama. You will feel happy,sad,goosebumps. Overall, YOU must watch it.

I need my time back...
I am not liking this drama and will be dropping it.I came for the abs everyone spoke so fondly of and even those were subpar.
This is not very well written, the translations are all over the place, no chemistry between the characters.
The overly aggressive nature of the ML is not attractive at all.
Time and time again we are shown toxic leads and made to accept their behavior because they may be easy on the eyes.
This is a very damaging mindset to be introducing in dramas.
Fake or not, some clichés should no longer be entertained.
