A Perfect Match

i really liked the idea behind this movie, but in the end it really wasnt a romance. there are supporting cast that get more screen time than our male lead. And when he IS there the majority of the time they're just steeling glances at each other. if you're looking for romance you won't find it here.

i really enjoyed this for the 1st six or seven episodes, i had my doubts in the middle and toward the end i began suspecting that none of the things keeping me watching this show were ever going to amount to anything really great.

the main couple never held much interest for me, even Sung Joon, who i've liked in other shows left me less than impressed. his character was sweet and likeable but in a very bland, going through the motions sort of way.the character of Hae Young never quite managed to grab my sympathy and they didnt have much chemistry.

the other three couples started out great but though they had a great deal more potential than the main characters, it never really amounted to much. these story lines were tidied up in a very bland way.

as for the mothers, i understood where they were trying to go with Hae young's mom, but Mrs. Ha completely baffled me. i could tell they wanted you to like her a feel a little sympathy for her, and maybe if you're korean you do, but i found her character to be completely contemptable. though the writer does get points for not going the usual Evil Omma route, this character was even less likable because she was so much more realistic than a shrieking banshee ahjumma.

at the end i was left scratching my head thinking if they had spent less time on hae young being a orange lipped brat they'd have had more time to end everyhting else in a more satisfying way. read more

IRIS

i really enjoyed Iris, you should watch it. that's why it got an 8 despite what i'm about to say. it's a good drama, keep that in mind as i rip into it. i'm only saying it b/c it seems no one else has.

the biggest problem, for me, was that in a drama about super secret super spies the characters often did some VERY conspicous often pointless things. Kim Tae Hee's character is the WORST SPY EVER, which is saying something b/c she is surrounded by other characters that belong in a Spy VS Spy short. even the NSS director has moments that make you scratch your head and not in a good way. 007 is on a beach somewhere on a beach drinking his martini, laughing and planning to call Hyun Jun and invite him to come work with some real spies.

next biggest issue for me is Kim Tae Hee and her character. Kim Tae Hee always fails to impress me. this is the 3rd drama i've seen her in and i was hoping that with a meatier role i'd finally see what she could do. and i did, about four or five times. in a 20 episode drama she brought it in a handful of scenes and that was it. the rest of the time she has this pinchy expression or her deadpan smile that irratated me so badly in my princess. of course it's not ALL her fault. some of it has to fall on the writers who some how managed to make a talented, intelligent, strong female spy just as weak and blah as every other k-drama heroine you wished you never had to see again. it probably woulndt be as noticable if she wasnt standing next to Lee Byung Hun. the man is a raw nerve, believably conveying every emotion, no matter how heightened or dramatiic.

my last major complaint is that it all seems to fall apart in the last few episodes. it's as if the director and writers suddenly realized that tightly ploted drama they had created did not leave the characters where they wanted them to be so instead of wrapping up a good drama they slapped together the last hurrah, and it wasnt nearly as well done as the rest.

now we get into less glaring issues. the music. ugh, esp at the begining the music was either in appropriate, jarring, just plain bad or a combination of the three. it gets better in the second half and the instrumentals are great.

this last bit is just me being nit picky. TOP. now dont get me wrong, i adore TOP and i loved watching the 20 minutes he was in this drama. i dont understand why TOP's character was presented as an intragal part of the plot b/c he just isnt. i get that he was included to attract a younger crowd, but his presence is seriously over billed. there were other characters that got a lot more screen time that didnt make the opening credits. read more

Panda and Hedgehog

i really liked this show at first but by the time the end came around i had sort of forgotten what i was even watching. the story was suspposed to be about the titular panda and hedgehog but that really only gets front and center for about 6 episodes right in the middle. it never stops being entertaining, but the change in direction makes it less fun than it would have been if they had kept the focus on the romcom andthe characters instead of some conviluted makjang plot. i was about half way through when i speculated this would be better to watch in a marathon and now that i've completed it i'm even more convinced.

maybe i need to go back and rewatch some of the back story, maybe the subs didn't quite capture what was being said, but there were some parts of the back story (which really became THE story) that seemed to change as the thing progressed and other parts that simply do not make any sense not matter how hard you try to spackle that plot hole with drama logic.

there were some really fun relationships in this drama and some really awesome characters. Choi Jin Hyuk's pouty little boy act is enough to make it worth watching, but there are some great supporting actors too like Won il's sister, grandpa and hedgehog's boys. i didnt expect a whole lot out of Donghae acting wise, but he's surprisingly not SUPER awful and IMO he's better than Siwon. the only performacne i was REALLY surprised by was Pan Da. i was shocked at her perma-face googly eyes and mooing. she was soooo awesome in the moon the embraces the sun. maybe she spent too much time around the mole and the bad acting just rubbed off on her. read more

Sunny Happiness

let me start off by saying i DO like T-drama, but tiawanese dramas tend to be a little over the top as far as dramas go in my experience, so when ever i find a T-drama that is mostly devoid of the kidnapping, unexpected tradgedy ect and characters that screech constantly for no reason i'm pretty thrilled.

Sunny Happiness is one of these rare t-dramas, 25 episodes and NOTHING exploded. the last 4 or 5 episodes do get a little "one life to live" but it fits with the plot, which is very entertaining, so it's cool. another thing that really grabbed me was that this is probably the ONLY believeable reason i've ever seen for a contract relationship. there was good reason to pretend and good reason to actually make a contract, so that was refreshing.

Mike and Janine turn in really impressive performances for this type of story. they are emotional w/out being over the top and they are believeable. the supporting cast, like yong yong's family tend to be relegated to traditional t-drama antics and they do thier fair amt of wailing, but it never quite reaches the epicness of say fated to love you or hi my sweet heart.

the one thing (or more specifically four things) that i really just never got into were the two other couples that got a surprising amt of screen time. Wang Lan and her producer were dull to watch. there didnt seem to be any emotion in it and the same for the brother and his chick. little bro is cute as a button, but he just never gets off the ground. it's like he's groggy throughout. in all honesty i'd give their sceenes a minute or two to grab my interest and when it didnt i would fast forward. read more

Runway Cop

Oh NOs! i'm the first to write a review and it's not going to be pretty :(

i had really high hopes for this movie. KJH and SYR?? best couple EVER!

but the movie... just sort of...was. there are some funny moments, REALLY funny moments, mostly KJH being KJH the comedic genius that he is. but aside from that there really isnt a whole lot going on. SYR is just sort of there, it felt like she was only in the movie for may thirty minutes. when she was on screen she wasnt really a character more of a charactiture that turned into someone completely different somewhere along the line for no apparent reason. the plot is a mess, half the time it only makes sense in a "i heard what you are saying but, huh?" kind of way.

there are a couple of nice moments with the two main models but they are short and leave you wondering why these two are even in the movie to begin with other that to be young and pretty next to KJH's not that young and pretty.

to sum up, it just wasnt that great and the sparse awesome bits werent enough to compltely redeem it. read more

Twelve Men in a Year

i didnt expect much coming into this b/c i hadnt really heard any buzz about the drama. i decided to give it a chance b/c it sounded alright and you never know when you'll find an underrated gem.

for the first six episodes i thought this drama was going to be one of those underated gems it was quite funny and progessed at a pretty good clip. sadly TMIAY coudnt keep it up. for me the crash and burn was sudden. maybe other people saw the problems before that, but around episode 6 the story of one of the men was ended in a completely nonsensical and, IMO kind of racist fashion and it went from entertaining and decently done to a sloppy mess.

i'd have to go back and count but i'm pretty sure the math is off somewhere and i really didnt like how what she was doing was made to look 100 x's worse than what was actually happening. either that or subbers are trying to change the meaning of words, which i doubt. for the last ten eps the story was sort of all over the place (it did have it's moments thought) and the epic reveal was so cheesy i skipped it.

as others have mention the female lead is very poorly styled. she looked terrible at best and like a color blind mentally deficint carney at worst. seiously, i could give my 6 yo free reign of everyhting in the house and she look better. Mi Roo could very well be a pretty girl, but it seems like her wardrobe and hair were picked specifcally to make her look hideous. her character isnt exactly compelling either. had she been a little more dynamic and a little more relatable and a little less... MI ROO this show could have maybe been a little better. read more

I Need Romance

the low score here is really for one reason and one reason only and that reason in In Young. the character is well acted if not well written. i spent half the drama actively hating her and hoping bad things would happen to her just so i'd feel better about her selfishness and cruelty.

she isnt selfish and mean in the traditional drama sense, but in a much more insideous way. her selfisness is cloaked in self manufactured naievity and "confusion" which she drops in a second when it suits her.

i did find the drama entertaining even though i wanted to stuff In Young in a locker somewhere. the supporting cast are brilliant which more than made up for the banality and cliche that surrounded all discussions about realtionships sex and life. read more

Office Girls

i really enjoyed Office girls. i had never seen any of the acotrs in anything and loved all of them, esp. Patrick Li who stole the show in every sceene he was in. now i know some people won't like this, but there did come a point in the show(abt ep.11 or 12) where Roy Chui seemed to put on an expression of ...i dont know confident contrition maybe?? any way he put on this expression and that was how he looked at Alice ke for the rest of the show.

i loved Alice's Ke's character but Roy Chui was absolute perfection.

at first i was really excited at the length of the show b/c i just loved it so much but really the last 5 episodes are just there, not bad, just...there. the last ep. was the worst. other than a really great chunk in the middle i didnt care for the final episode.

it's hard to talk aobut all the really awesome things in this show w/out posting spoilers, just suffice it to say that it is now on my top 5 list. even if you dont like tdrama, watch this it's hilarious and awesome. read more

Romantic Island

any one of these three story lines would have held up on their own just fine, and they probably would have been the better for it. i think the writers chose to combine them in an attempt to over come the 3 rather ordinary and almost cliche plots. problem is they never come together in any meaningful way, and the third really only exists to add drama, drama that never really goes any where or develops, it just sort of sits there, waving at you occasionally. at the end you're left feeling like you watched the extended higlights of 3 movies instead of all of one.

the acting was well done all around and it was well shot. the music went well, usually just blending into the back ground. if you like romance the two younger couples are fun to watch. read more
