This is my second article on MDL and since I love drama original soundtracks and particularly Mandarin music which actually represents 50% of my music playlist, I would love to share with you all some of my fave Chinese drama OSTs. First I have to warn you that 70% of the songs I'll post here are either ballads or slow songs nonetheless there're rich with beautiful melodies and lyrics. I also want to underline that I decided to write this article because I think that generally Chinese dramas, and more precisely Chinese drama songs, aren't much represented on MDL compared to Korean and Japanese drama OSTs, yet I find the Mandarin language so captivating and unique ♥.

As the title suggests I have to present you 5 songs but I'll cheat a little bit and pick 7 songs from 5 dramas which I dearly love. So let's start :).

5) Bu Bu Jing Xin as Scarlet Heart

"Deng Ni de Ji Jie/Season of Waiting" by Liu Shi Shi

I think that most people who are interested in Chinese dramas have already heard about Scarlet Heart as it's probably one the most popular Chinese dramas out there and for good reasons. It has a really unique and touching story but also a really gorgeous OST which rapidly captured my heart. I know "Three Inch of Heaven" is much more appreciated but I really have a preference for "Season of Waiting".

4) Evil Minds

"Hui Fei De Yema" by Luo Er

It's quite rare when I don't skip the ending song once I'm accustomed to it. However, it wasn't the case with this drama, I mean the first notes of the song always give me goosebumps; it's a really thrilling and powerful song and I think it perfectly fits with the atmosphere of the drama. It's so catchy <3.

3) Nothing Gold Can Stay

"Wang Bu Diao" by Sun Li

To be honest with you I haven't started watching the drama yet since only two episodes are subbed but as curious as I am I listened to the opening song and let me tell you it was a real revelation for me. Maybe I shouldn't include it in this article, however, It's one of the songs I'm replaying the most at the moment so I thought I might as well share it here.

2) Ode to Joy

And this time I chose two songs for this drama which are my absolute faves.

1. "Zong You Xingfu Zai Deng Ni" by Liu Tao, Jiang Xin, Wang Ziwen, Yang Zi and Qiao Xin

This is the only dynamic and cheerful song on the list, I feel immediately energized and happy after listening to it. It's an addicting, lovely and buoyant song. In my opinion, this song represents the beautiful and yet really electric relationship between our 5 female leads who actually are the ones singing the song <3.

2. "Hui Gu Niang/Cinderella" by Jiang Xin

This is an insert song sung by Jiang Xin who played the character Sheng Mei in the drama. I still remember about one scene in the drama where this song was played and I just broke out in tears as the scene was so emotional. It's indeed such a powerfully and touching song, and the lyrics are equally touching and heartbreaking.

1) To Be a Better Man

Again, I'll present you two songs as To Be a Better Man has, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful OST I've ever heard. Both the background music and songs are very special in my heart.

1. "Lu Yuan" by Zhang Lei

The first song that really got me addicted was "Lu Yuan". It's such a gem (which is the name of the main character of the drama by the way). If you were to ask me why I love it so much, honestly, I wouldn't be able to explain because I just simply love it. It both makes me smile and cry thinking about all the events happening in this drama.

2. "Wang Le Ta" by Parhati

And this one automatically brings me back so many wonderful memories from the drama, I guess it's because of the bittersweet feel of the song. It may be a slow song but I find it so addicting.

Bonus: The opening

And last, but not the least, the opening theme. The one piece of music that instantly made me fall in love with the drama. To this day, I think it's the very best opening I've ever heard. And even though in the very beginning I was a little bit sceptical about this drama, it's the opening that made me continue watching it and I'm glad I did.

This is the end of my article so I hope you enjoyed this non-exhaustive Chinese songs selection. They are currently the ones I listen to the most though there're so many other gems that I love. Don't hesitate to tell me if you found some of the songs to your liking and share in the comment section your own top 5 Chinese songs.
