"Queen of Tears" officially surpasses the ratings of "Crash Landing On You"
There are so many good things we love about Kdramas, but in this article, I am going to highlight things that happen in most kdramas that I personally dislike.
1. When dramas are too long
This is a pet peeve of mine. Mainly focusing on episodes. When drama episodes are like 1hr 20mins long it can be very tiring thus making it difficult to binge and to me, it just makes the show less fulfilling and exciting.
2. When the female lead always chooses the male lead/ when the second male lead does not get a happy ending
It is sad that this has become a cliche. In most dramas, the male lead acts so rudely towards the female lead, and its a complete jerk. Meanwhile, the second lead male is always good to her, has liked her from the very beginning, always protects and defends her, etc. Only for the female lead to choosing the male lead over the second male lead without a solid reason. They make it as so it's okay to be rude and abusive once you're handsome. This irks me so much. Few dramas where the second lead male deserved better are "Boys Over Flower, Crash Landing on You (why did he have to die, that was so irrelevant), Cheese in the Trap, She Was Pretty, The Heirs, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon". The list goes on... I'm still yet to watch a drama where the second male lead gets the girl.
3. Static Kiss
It feels like am watching a kid's show whenever this happens in a drama, I don't know how much pg it can get. There is nothing exciting about this and it makes me cringe. Especially when the scene is way too long and it gets shot from different angles. I feel like the passion of the characters "love" (as they make it look) should be reflected in their kisses.
4. When Love interests Knew each other when they were kids
Can we talk about how unrealistic this is, but then when has Kdramas ever been realistic. Whenever I see this in a drama I get annoyed. Why do the writers always think that destiny is established at childhood, I find this creepy. This is in most romance dramas, few examples are Shopping King Louie, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, etc. There are several other ways to bring the leads together without incorporating or trying to force a childhood encounter/connection.
5. Annoying Cliches
such as;
Back hugs, bus scene (head on the shoulder), the bad boy turns good, product placements and advertisement (subway scenes), wrist grab, breaking up towards the end, and then getting back together (like what's was the use of that), one of the leads lands in the hospital, etc.. I find this annoying and totally overused.
All these are based on personal views but I guess it wouldn't be a kdrama without any of these happening.
