Parasite has been one of the biggest films of 2019, and it seems to be continuing its success in 2020. The film has made history being nominated for the Oscars and is in development as an HBO series. The film's budget was approximately US$11 million, while it took $167.7 million in the box office.

Parasite is the first-ever Korean film to win the coveted Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival and was also the first film to win by unanimous vote since Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013).
It was nominated for three Golden Globe awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay, and it won Best Foreign Language Feature Film - marking it as the first Korean film to do so.
It was the second foreign film in history to be nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture since Life is Beautiful in 1997. It won this category, making it the first-ever foreign film to win the prize.
It was nominated for four awards at the British Academy Film Awards - Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Not in the English Language. It is the first Korean film to receive these nominations barring the Best Film Not in the English Language award.
Parasite is the first South Korean film to be nominated at the Academy Awards. Alongside In the Absencethey are the only two South Korean films to receive Academy Award recognition.
In the British Academy Film Awards, Parasite won the award for Best Film Not in the English Language and Best Original Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Film and Best Director.
On February 5th, it was announced that Parasite became the first Korean movie in almost 15 years that has surpassed 1 million people seeing the film in cinema in Japan.

And now, at the 92nd Academy Awards, Parasite and Bong Joon Ho have made yet more history.
