Direct messages not showing and cannot make a new one

To Kingsqueen, in the meantime, you can click on the write message icon [to the right of Direct Messages] and search for the person you want to write to. It'll work once you do that. 

I feel stupid - I did click on the icon, and it says "beginning of your message with "name" - but I can't figure out how to type there. It won't let me. I did receive a DM and was allowed to reply, but I can't create one. And I cannot now make another reply to the first one. I don't know if I am the one doing something wrong, or if it's still a glitch.
