College student Kei Kurono (Kazunari Ninomiya) notices former childhood friend Masaru Kato (Kenichi Matsuyama) helping a drunk man who fell from a subway platform. Kei Kurono then jumps down to help his childhood friend. A few moments later, the subway train rapidly approaches and both men look on helplessly on as their life is about to end. The next moment, Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato find themselves in a strange apartment with a mysterious giant black sphere and others who have recently died. The massive black sphere in the center of the living room is "GANTZ". GANTZ then assigns the people gathered in the room on missions to exterminate aliens. They are given a set time and if successful will receive points. A total of 100 points will allow them to leave this purgatory like place or send someone else back to life. If they fail, they can perish forever ...

Forget what you know about old manga's/anime's being made into movies. We all know that nothing is quite as good, but this movie breaks the status quo. This movie is quickly paced, an 'easy watch' so to say, has sort of a "dark humor" vibe to it, but is definitely brain food. Leaves you questioning most of the time, and when you think you've got it figured out... I'll leave it to you. Another Gantz sums the end up better for viewers, but leaves out some of the most crucial parts of the story line. I suggest you watch this version of Gantz, then just watch the last 11 minutes of Another Gantz. Besides, Anything with Kazunari Ninomiya is worth your while.

I've never read the manga or watched the anime. The story was actually quite interesting and better than I had expected. Surprisingly though, I did NOT like the cast picked for this movie. I felt like Ninomiya and Kato were...how do I put this...They just didn't feel right. The music was okay and I personally wouldn't rewatch this, but it's generally not that bad of a film to rewatch. Overall, I gave this a 7 since it didn't really incite that much of a emotional response from me.

http://otaku-streamers.com/watch/4014/ep1-Gantz_(JDrama) You'll have to create an account though and it seems like the format isn't 100% right but it's the only website that still has the movie, as far as I know.

I first watched the anime and to tell the truth, the story there felt really slow and kind of dragged itself to nowhere.
Still, I loved the concept of the series and I fell head over heels in love with Kurono Kei.
I was excited to learn that there was a live-action movie so I watched that too, but I didn't like how they cut a lot of interesting moments and changed the story here and there.
Still, it was fun to watch and the effects were really well made (a lot better than the anime).
Although I liked both the anime and movies (to some extend) I recommend everyone, who has the chance, to read the manga.
It is more detailed and captures the plot in its fullest.
Besides, the story there extends beyond what is told in the anime and movies.

Gantz does indeed have something to tell and it's beyond just a mere alien sci-fi story.
