Rurouni Kenshin

I've been a fan of the Rurouni Kenshin anime for at least 7 years now. It was one of my first anime, and it's been one of my favorites ever since. So when I first heard about the live action adaptation I was a little apprehensive. I was afraid that they were going to ruin the memory of yet another one of my favorite anime. However, this movie went beyond my expectations and was actually pretty good. It kept a lot of the Kenshin anime 'feel', the seriousness along with the moments of comedy that I so dearly love.

Story 8/10: The story was interesting, though predictable (mainly due to the fact that I have watched the anime.)

Cast 10/10: The cast did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life.

9/10: The music was very good and fit the scenes perfectly. Even though its been 3 days since I watched hte movie, i'm currently listening to one of the songs (by One Ok Rock) from the movie.

Rewatch Value 6/10: This film is a decent rewatch.

Cinematography 10/10: Even though we don't have a section for Cinematography on here, i felt this movie deserved one. Normally I don't notice Cinematography since it's not too big of a deal. But this movie went above and beyond normal cinematography.

Overall 9/10; What are you waiting for? Go and watch it if you haven't already! read more

The Thieves

So I decided to watch this movie since it was the only Korean film on a plane I was taking. I had also heard that it was Korean's Oceans Eleven, and since I had enjoyed that movie, i decided to try out this one. I was NOT disappointed.

Story 10/10: The story is extremely interesting and has you on the edge of your seat. At first you hate a character, then you're not so sure, and by the end your view has flipped every which way.

Acting/Cast 10/10 : The cast did an extremely great job. They were absolutely flawless and I loved watching them act together.

Music 6/10: I don't really remember much about the music. It fulfilled its part but it didn't stand out and I wont' really listen to the ost.

Rewatch Value 4/10 : I don't rewatch movies or dramas. But if a friend wants to watch this I would watch it with them for sure. The greatest thing about this movie is the plot twists and already knowing them does kind of put a damper on the film.

Overall 9/10: It's definitely a must watch. Especially if you're fans of action/heist movies. If you love films with lots of plot twists, then this is the perfect film for you. read more

Rich Man, Poor Woman Episode Zero

This is pretty much a mini special that shows a bunch of flashbacks, as well as some new videos about the company going from just Toru's small (1 million member) company to the big leagues. This special isn't necessary, but for fans of the drama it helps increase the backstory a bit.

Story 7/10: This special was quite interesting. Like I said before, it just has a few clips that aren't from the dramas, but overall it really helps you learn more about Asahina and toru.

Acting 10/10 : No complaints about the cast. They are perfect like in the drama.

Music 6/10 : The music is good, but not great. In fact I think it only had one song and that was the same one.

Rewatch Value 3/10 : I wouldn't really rewatch this special, especially due to the fact that im not really a rewatcher.

Overall 7/10: The special is good, but it's not great like the drama. read more

As One

So where do I begin? I play Ping Pong myself so after I saw that there was another movie about ping pong coming out, I knew I had to watch it.

Story: 9/10: The story isn't really that unique, but what bumped it up for me was that it was based off of a true story and most of the events in the movie actually happened. During the entire movie, there was not one moment where I was bored, thus the high rating.

Acting/Cast: 10/10: The cast was absolutely perfect. They all did a great job.

Music: 8/10: There wasn't that much music in the movie, but sometimes(and in this case) the phrase 'less is more' comes into play.

Rewatch Value: 5/10: I don't rewatch movies or dramas. However, I can see myself rewatching this with a friend or family member.

Overall: 10/10: I wouldn't change one thing about this movie. It was perfect and I hope to see more films like this. read more

The Man From Nowhere

The main reason why I started watching this was because everyone on MDL is always recommending it, as well as it being one of the top movies ranked on MDL. I was going on a trip so I stockpiled a few of the top movies and throughout my trip I watched them. I watched The Man From Nowhere or Ahjussi on the plane yesterday and this is what I thought of it...

Story 9/10 : The general story is actually not that original. I've seen many American movies like it (for example Denzel Washingtons' Man On Fire). However, that doesn't lower the entertainment value of this film. This films story has you on the edge of your seat for the ENTIRE film. The scriptwriter(s) deserve much praise.

Acting 10/10 : They were all perfect. Everyone was perfect. I would not have changed any ANYBODY.

Music 7/10: The music was good, but it wasn't anything that I will remember. It served its purpose perfectly, and enhanced the effects of the movie. It's not an OST I will look up and listen to again later.

Rewatch Value 6/10 : This is probably the highest rewatch value i've given to any movie. I'm not someone who rewatches movies or dramas. This movie is action packed, so it should allow for a good rewatch. However, the amount of entertainment you get from this movie does hinge on its twist and turns so that might detract from its rewatch value.

Overall 10/10 : This is a great movie that I'd recommend to people OVER 18. It does have graphic violence and slight nudity. Overall, this is one of the best Asian movies that i've ever seen. read more

Sunny

So I decided to watch this movie after seeing it being #1 on here. I finally got time to watch it and this is what thoughts on it.

Story 10/10 : WOW! JUST WOW. The story is very unique(at least for me). It intertwines both the past and the modern time in a very, very interesting and easily understandable way.

Cast/Acting 10/10: The cast was lovable and the actors made that happen extremely well .

Music 8/10: The music was great and served its purpose quite well. However, it wasn't 10/10 material for me. Just my personal opinion, don't know why or how, but thats just how I feel.

Rewatch Value 5/10: I'm not a rewatcher so I most likely wont watch this movie again.

Overall 10/10: This movie stunned me. I don't know how to describe it, but it was amazing. It's not action packed, but more about friendship and the effect of years on people. I especially enjoyed their transformations. read more

Beginning of the Great Revival

First off, I decided to watch this movie because i've been studying Chinese history, as well as reading a biography of Mao Zedong which really pigued my interest. Seeing how this movie, had Mao Zedong in it, I decided to watch it. And this is what I thought...

Story 7/10: This entire movie is basically lifted off of the history books so it doesn't really have a "beginning or an end" since history never does. It starts off from the end of the Qing Dynasty and ends after the initial establishment of the Chinese Communist Party. The reason why I gave this a 7 and not a 10, was because while it was somewhat interesting in some parts it was slow.

Acting/Cast 10/10: They were all flawless. I enjoyed all the actors. I only found one thing funny and that was Mao's personality as well as him being portrayed as a innocent guy who wants only the best for his country. I'm not sure if that was really how his personality was or if it was just how they were portraying him.

Music 7/10: The music was fine and suited the movie just well. None of the songs were memorable though.

Rewatch Value 4/10: I'm not a rewatcher, and this movie isn't a movie I would rewatch.

Overall 8/10: This was a good movie that fans of Chinese history would most likely enjoy. Keep in mind, this was made for China, where the Chinese Communist Party is still in power, so nothing negative about the CCP was shown. Regardless though, I enjoyed watching it. read more

Yuusha Yoshihiko to Maou no Shiro

I started watching this drama because the poster for this drama seemed amazingly "epic". However, it turned out to be false! This isn't a high budget action drama. Does that mean I was disappointed? Nope! Not at all! This drama has game references (which the subber did a GREAT job of noting), comedy, and even though it was low budget, it was a joy to watch.

Story 10/10: The storyline is actually pretty unique, at least from what i've seen. It's about a Hero who has to go out and defeat an evil entity who is bringing evil in this world! As someone else mentioned, it's somewhat like Monty Python, but it has it's own uniqueness. It also reminded me of the anime Gintama in a way.

Acting 10/10: They were all flawless.

Music 7/10: The music was good. It wasn't really memorable but it did it fulfilled its purpose.

Rewatch Value 6/10 : Since this drama doesn't really have many twists or turns, it's actually a good candidate for rewatching. I generally don't rewatch shows though, but if i'm ever extremely bored and for some reason cannot watch anything else, i'd watch this.

Overall 9/10: This was a short drama (12 episodes of 24 minutes each), but it was funny and interesting. read more

Detective Conan : Shinichi Kudo and the Case of the Kyoto Shinsengumi Murder

Here's a little overview of why I watched this drama special and how involved I am with the whole Detective Conan Anime/Drama. I've seen around 630 episodes of the anime so far, and I've seen most of the 2011 Drama Series and this drama special. Needless to say I'm a big fan of the show in general so when I saw a new drama special I jumped on the chance to watch it.

Story 7/10: The two cases were pretty cool but not extremely great. Seeing Heiji and Kudo in action together was awesome. That's always my favorite part in the anime movies that involve Heiji. Unfortunately, since Kudo is not a kid in the drama special, it was impossible for the cases to be really "meaningful".

Acting 10/10: They all played their roles flawlessly. I didn't notice anything that bothered me so 10/10.

Music: 7/10 The soundtrack was good....but there was only one song in the entire 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Rewatch 3/10: I really don't rewatch movies or dramas. I have rewatched some of the Detective Conan anime movies but only because those were spectacular. This one..not so much. I won't be rewatching this.

Overall 7/10: This is great for Detective Conan fans who have nothing else to do or are waiting for the next episode of the anime to get subbed or the next chapter of the manga to get translated. If you've never heard of Detective Conan, you probably won't enjoy it too much. Or who knows, maybe you will? Just know that...There is only one truth! read more

Personal Taste

I first decided to watch this drama because I was in the mood for it. Feeling rather lovesick etc. I had always heard good things about Personal Taste, and had seen how popular it was, so I decided to give it a go...

Story: First 10 episodes 9/10, last 6 episodes 4/10. Their is a huge discrepancy between the first couple of episodes and the last couple of episodes (at least for me). I highly enjoyed the first couple of episodes. They were highly entertaining and PERFECT for my mood, but as I came upon the end I started disliking certain aspects of it.

Acting/Cast 10/10 : The actors were all flawless and I enjoyed their acting a lot.

Music 8/10: The Music was pretty good, and I still sometimes listen to the OST outside of watching the drama, which is always a good sign. I also enjoyed how they had random english songs sporadically thrown in their.

Rewatch Value 5/10: I'm not a big fan of rewatching dramas/movies to begin with, so I will personally probably never watch this. However, this is a bearable rewatch for those that do, because it's not really based on twists and turns.

Overall 6/10: If you have nothing else to watch and don't mind a decent story with wonderful actors, then this drama is the one for you. read more
