This drama tells the story of three siblings who grew up in the 1970's. Lee Kang Mo, his older brother Sung Mo and younger sister Mi Joo were separated at a young age when their father was killed in a smuggling scheme and their mother also died subsequently. When they are able to reunite years later, they had all reached adulthood and are determined to exact revenge upon the people responsible for their misery. [dramawiki]

I must have been out of my mind when I started this one because I had never attempted or even cared to attempt a drama more than 45 episodes (Smile You) but the fact that I was a fan of Joo Sang Wook (Thorn Birds) & Hwang Jung Eum (Can You Hear My Heart)led me to try out a couple of episodes...

Story: It starts off with the child stories and here is where you see everything (father's death, siblings seperated, meeting of the romantic OTP #1) go down. When the characters grow up, there are multiple time jumps and twist and turns throughout to keep you engaged till the very end. Be prepared to cry a lot and be shocked at how the romantic pairings

Oh my goodness, I don't know where to start. This was truly the first drama, more modern that represented to me as an epic! Sure, there have been sageuks that I could name but this was the first slightly modern drama that truly showed you a complete story. I especially loved the child actors here as their portrayal helped catapult the adult actors tremendously! All of them, not going to just mention one, all did a great job. The story was the best. It helped the viewer to not only understand the politics of the time in S. Korea but also how those same politics (and politicians) could be manipulated for personal gain. Do I think it was an exaggeration? No! Was I shocked and bothered read more

  • History of the Salaryman is the modern cousin of Giant. Both are similar in narrative structure and storytelling patterns but HotS is comedic in nature while Giant is an epic melodrama.

  • I'd like to support Bokami's recommendation. My advice is to watch Salaryman first, you will get the sense of what to expect from Giant, just substract the wacky comedy from those expectations, as Giant has no comedy. But other than that, Salaryman gives you a sense of what you can expect from Giant.

The plot sounds a lot like Japanese drama Ryusei no Kizuna... Is this related to it somehow?

Thanks I will watch it at some point. I will cope with 60 eps if it's amazingly good and doesn't drag. I've not watched a series that long before. I think I will go for it :)

I didn't want to watch this at first because it is so long. However, once I start watching it, I just couldn't stop. I'm totally a fan of Lee Bum Soo after watching it. It is an epic drama =D.

I just finished watching Baker King Kim Tak Goo when I started to watch this. I was very reluctant to start this because Giant and BK had similar period of time as the setting, and BK was far from my favorite drama. But Giant was just so awesome that I couldn't even think that there was another drama that setted around the same period.
Giant is one of the best korean drama ever produced.

Just thinking about the scenes with Minwoo/Miju or Minwoo/Wooju just brings tears to my eyes! I would have been more satisfied with a shorter story about their relationship along!! Great story! Definitely has moved to my top 10!

It's been several months now, I gained some distance to the drama and I am preparing a review. I'd say as far as revenge dramas go, this is one to watch. The casting is fantastic, however the drama I feel from retrospect, could have been told in 40 episodes without the extra filler material which can make you feel it is a bit draggy. For anyone who enjoys sibling themes, this is also a good drama. But do expect some predictability. However, it contains a woman who grows to be strong/confident/clever buisness woman and is NOT presented as a total witch, which is a plus. It is a 8 drama but I gave it a 9 because of my bias for theme and cast. This is the core of my review in the making. Much as I like Lee Bum soo, he does tend to overact at times. So it depends whether he will fit your preferred style or not. But the kid actor for Lee Gangmo is really one skilled young guy.

It is rather more standard fare that it is not, however the story is a sweeping ride. Watch salaryman forst to get a better sense of what to expect from Giant. Giant is still one of my favourite dramas, however as I've really grown to care for the characters, especially the eldest brother.

The problem with 60 ep dramas is that some of the story arcs tend to drag in the middle, this one too, but it is a great story. It is indeed somewhat similar to Salaryman, Salaryman is just more quirky and humorous. Lee Bum Soo is nmostly great, but sometimes has material which dictates him to overact - but it's because of silly script, he is a great actor. All in all worth the watch and I found the ending to be VERY fitting, mature not just simple. Very happy I watched it, I strill am looking for more Lee Bum Soo, I find him entirely compelling.
