Came across the title of this movie somewhere, can't remember now it was a really long time ago, and a group were discussing the storyline. It is a popular Korean movie. Well, it sure got my attention with its twisted, yet fascinating, turn of events. You will have to watch it to know what I'm talking about. The storyline is bizarre, just the idea is actually pretty original. At the beginning the viewer is pretty much hanging by a thread, on the verge of bursting out of his/her demand what was the reason that got all those unfortunate things inflicted on the main character. At moments I felt overcome with the information that was slowly unrevealed. So twisted, I can't get it out of my mind read more

This is a hard movie for me to rate, and review, because I have such mixed feeling about it. Old Boy is an expertly told thriller, full of suspense, that I simultaneously loved and hated.

What I absolutely loved was the beginning. I would even dare to call it the best beginning of a revenge story that I've ever seen. From the opening moments to the time he is finally free, I was on the edge of my seat. Oh Dae-Su's transformation is also amazing to watch, and I was completely impressed with Choi Min Sik's performance.

From there we get to the heart of the revenge story. Oh Dae-Su's search for the man who ruined his life is full of intrigue. Yoo Ji Tae brilliantly

This movie is really something else, I have to say. I don't disagree with manicmuse's review, in fact some of the points she raised were what bothered me in this movie too, at least at first. It's not a comfortable movie to watch. However, I find that each and every element with this movie made it convey its message in a very powerful way- in this respect each and every element was needed in this movie exactly as it was. It's a movie which can lead to some interesting discussions and def leaves something to think about.

The best korean movie I've watched yet. I can't really explain how refreshing it is to me when I watch something that's done in such detail, so much originality and still so intense.

My brother made me watch this with him. Too graphicly violent and twisted for me.

The story was pretty good though and that hallway fight scene was awesome. I wonder how many times they had to film that to get it all right in one long take.

It's a movie that keeps you guessing, though I did figure out the big secret about 2 minutes before it was revealed (usually I don't) but it was so shocking I wasn't dissapointed I figured it out.

I'll never ever watch it again, but it was a good movie. Just cover your eyes for the graphic stuff.

Netflix only has this dubbed. Anyone know if there are any versions available with subtitles instead? I'm dying to see this but I can't stand dubbing. It ruins the film.

Well you could always download it. asiatorrents.me has it, but if you don't have a user it's impossible to download. Registration opens sometimes during weekends though, so you could keep checking back.

      I found this though: http://www.gooddrama.net/korean-movie/oldboy-2003
Not sure if it works. Truth be told i found this movie at my local DVD store and watched it on my TV, but I hope you find it.

... aaaand I just saw how old the message was, but I'm not going to erase this all because I actually put effort into it. :( I kind of hope you haven't watched it already. XD

Thanks for the answer. LOL! I actually did download it from Asia Torrents a while ago (after I had posted this question). Unfortunately, there was only one version on there and the audio on it is a disaster! The music and sound effects are normal but the vocals are almost impossible to hear. UGH! I'm so frustrated because it took all night to download it. I'll check out the link you recommended though, so, see, your comment was not in vain! :-)

If you're still looking for a decent copy of Old Boy, here is a link to one on youtube with eng subs, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng9QClgvfio

You can turn on Eng captions and maybe download the movie through something like youtube downloader? Or just watch it online :)

Oh my god, I can't believe that U.S is going make a remake of this amazing masterpice. WHY? Destroying my favorite korean director Park Chan Wook's masterpice like why? It makes me sad.

They're doing it to "A man from nowhere" as well. The director who directed that horrible Taylor Lautner film that no one remembers the name of got his hands on it. I just really hope they won't slaughter these movies like they ridiculed "My Sassy Girl".

Just.....I'm speechless. This movie was so crazily insane, yet so good. The ending was so disturbing, I had to cover the screen. it was completely unexpected, and my gosh, my emotions were all over the place. But what I loved most was the huge use of symbolism that was almost EVERWHERE. The very, VERY end of the movie was amazing. Great cinematography.

Oh my god. I don't like blood and this violent stuff and urgh.. but well.. I kind of get why it was (is?) popular. oô
A Classmate (which isn't interested in Asia at all) recommended this movie to me, said it was his favourite movie.. Well.. I've seen it now and I don't want to see it ever again.
If it wasn't as disgusting as it was... I could say that the plot was original and I was seriously shocked by the end..

    Not a movie for weak hearts & stomaches.. ;3;

Ohmygod, this movie. It's extremely well made, but...wow. Not for everyone for sure. I feel like I can't even write a review because I have so many feelings, so I'll just say I mostly-heartedly agree with manicmuse's review. Wow, this movie is insane.
