When I was to the 2nd to the last episode, I was like rather excited to see how the drama was going to end. Then as tried to predict the ending, I started to smile because I thought the ending was going to include a twist, foreshadowed earlier in the series - when Ye Hua wanted to fake his own death, in front of so many witnesses, so that he can be with Su Su without the pressures of being the Crown Prince. I was like... that clever guy. But in the end, it was a stupid ending, and ending that made no sense and dragged on for nothing. This series is highly overrated. And how did they resolve Qian Qian's relationship with Mo Yuan? I mean, that was really not explained. And not to mention how anti-climatic his 70,000 year long return was. I mean, that is essentially the second larges plot of the series and the resolution felt incomplete.

I tried watching it, stopped. Read reviews that told me to power through the first few episodes because the pay off is so good, so I got back on the horse and powered through the beginning. I finished the drama and was completely let down. Episode 1 was as confusing as can be, even for the " let's figure it out together" approach from the director. It was so confusing that I really had no interest from the start. Second, the GC for the first episode was horrible. It was like the producer was trying to make people not like the show from the beginning.

While the pace, story, and GC does pickup and improve as the series progresses, the pay off is just not there. Starting from present day in Episode 1, really ruined a lot of the surprises of the story. I would even recommend not watching episode 1. Episodes 2-10 were meh. I will admit that the series does pick up tremendously from 11-about 35, with an apex that was really satisfying, worthy of a concluding episode. But then the roller coaster takes you down again for the last 15 or so episodes. Really the resolution of the story was laborious, obvious, and basically a let down. With mysteries like these, you want to be surprised a bit, but guessing the mastermind was pretty obvious and the reveal was less than satisfying, in fact rather draggy and painful.

I walked into the drama knowing it was a boy love film that was toned down. I actually didn't like the chemistry between the leads and I actually felt a bit uncomfortable watching some of their interactions. It wasn't a bromance, nor was it a love story... just weird suggestions that missed both marks.

Forget "The Untamed" or other higher rated wuxia dramas, this version is awesome. My biggest complaint is that the the CG was just horrible, almost laughable. I also didn't love the chemistry between the main male lead and main female lead. But other than that the drama was great. 42 episodes a relatively small investment was easy to get through because every episode had something going on. Rarely did a scene take 2 episodes to resolve, which we all know is very painful sometimes. The romance and songs were addictive. The best part was the chemistry between the protagonist and the antagonist... as another reviewer described, sizzling!

I highly recommend this version if you can look past the horrible GC. Other than that definitely a 10/10 for me.
