One of the best family drama that I've watched

This is one of the best family drama that I've watched. The drama tells the story of six families in Mayang Street in Guangzhou. The story starts with the sixth family (with five family members) first move to the street. They then interact and became part of the community. The drama has very interesting characters, some with traits that you have met at least once in your life. We all have that nosy neighbor, that annoying auntie, the kindhearted grandma, the silly boy next door and the girl that everyone likes. The drama has a stellar cast from the young actors and actresses to the more experienced ones. I thought that most of the cast acted really well. The best acting in this drama goes to Timmy Xu. I first watched him in Addicted to Heroin but he was not memorable in that one. He played Ou Xiao Jian really well and portrayed the emotion of a very complicated character. I can feel his pain as I watch the drama and his breakup with Xiao Xiao was the saddest thing. They were the ones breaking up in the drama and I was the one who were sad and felt the pain. (It's that good! LoL). Another kudos goes to Niu Jun Feng for portraying Yi Dong Dong, also a complex character. They both acted really well in this drama. The drama is not all serious, there are some funny moments too and funny character like Liang Xiao Bao's father. He is comical and that includes Xiao Bao too with his comical expression. I will definitely rewatch this in the future. The ending is not what I expected and what I would have liked it to be, but it's still a good ending. The OST is also good and fitting to the tone of the drama. If you like dramas about life and family and friendship, I would totally recommend watching Dear Mayang Street. It's been two days since I finish the drama and I still miss the characters and their story.

This is a good drama in its literal sense. It is melodramatic with super bad villain that makes you want to throw something to the screen because they are just so annoying. The main characters is one that has so many bad luck despite being a good person. The writer must have burdened him with so many bad occurrences and bad people in his life. But he is one nice people and stay positive and kept his integrity intact despite being wronged by people so many times. Someone I believe only exists in the movies or drama these days. One of the things that I like is also watching Nie Yuan and Wu Jin Yan in this drama. They are my favorite actor and actress from Story of Yanxi Palace. Overall, I would recommend if you like melodrama.

The only good thing about this drama is the OST and the cinematography (Oh and Leo Wu of course). I especially like the ending theme song. Couldn't find that song on either Apple Music or Spotify, so I patiently waited until the end of each episode to hear the ending song. Luckily this drama doesn't shy away from playing the song throughout the drama too, so at least that's good :) They are literally playing the whole song throughout the drama sometimes, not just as the instrumental background. To some it could be annoying, to me it's good as I pay more attention to the song than the story in this drama LOL. The story is for me confusing to the max. I had high hopes despite the low rating on MDL, but as the drama progresses, i get more confused and finally gave up my full concentration and just kept it playing while I do other things (to wait for the ending theme song to play too :))

Overall, this drama is not all bad. There are holes in the story and poor costume design; Don't get me started on Dilraba's different shades of red costume. It's like one of the worst costume design for a period or costume drama. And her earrings, what is that? It's not even aesthetic! It's just so bad. It's one of the worst part of the drama in my opinion.

Now, the drama itself is not that bad. Like all period drama, it started out good and I was waiting for that episode for Zhang Bin Bin to appear. He's not the main male lead in this drama, but the main reason I watch this drama. After that, the middle part gets draggy and long. It started to pick up again the last 15 episodes or so. There are many side characters, and I do enjoy their character development, especially Lei Jing Hong and Dao Lie Xiang. The ending is a bit confusing to me, and I read several comments how people get the ending after watching several times. So not for me! I get confused and this is the first and last time I watch this drama. I couldn't go through and waste another 52 episodes trying to understand the ending. So, it's not a rewatch for me, ever.

The OST on the other hand is great. I could listen to it over and over again. I like the opening song and two other songs that's playing several times throughout the drama.

Not as good as the first one

I enjoyed watching the first one, so I was excited to watch the second season with the same cast. This one continues Lin Miao Miao and her family's journey in life. She and her three friends have graduated high school and is in university. The story revolves around Miao Miao and her life as a college student and entering the workforce. She goes through the same struggles as a new worker as I believe almost everyone does. The drama depicts real life and its ups and downs. There are some difficult issues covered in this drama such as depression and violence. Overall, a good family drama, but I prefer the first season

A sad but beautiful love story

I came across this drama on Netflix and found that there is a movie version that Jasper Liu starred in. I couldn't find the movie version to watch. This is a love story, a sad love story, a sad but beautiful love story. A story how love can be so powerful and develop a very strong connection between the two people. I've never seen any of the cast in other dramas but I thought they played their characters really well and you can see very deep emotion and feel, sympathize with what the characters are going through. The music is good too (well, music is the theme - they're looking for the copyright owner of a song). I will definitely re-watch this sometime in the future. It's such a beautiful story..

I definitely have to watch this a second time and will update my review after my second watch.

This drama has an interesting storyline. It's a time travel themed drama. However, this is not like the usual time travel drama where the characters meet the version of them in the past or the future. In this drama, the characters travel to a different time but meeting other characters who look exactly like them, but not them. Somehow these four (or six if you count the villain) characters from two different timelines are connected. I don't know if it's my concentration or something else, but this confuses me. I lost track of who is who and why. That's why I said that I have to re-watch this drama with more focus.

Overall, this is a beautiful story and refreshing because it's different.

I enjoyed watching this drama series beyond my expectation. This is a drama about family and friendship and the struggles of living in a big city like Shanghai. The 53 episodes don't feel long at all and I feel like I miss these characters that I used to watch every night. What I like about the drama is the many different and interesting characters and their development in both career and relationship. I like how this drama explored the "greed" part and how money will drive relationships apart. This in turn produces characters that make you want to smash your screen because you are just frustrated with them. But I guess, this is what makes the drama interesting and different. The drama feels real too, depicting real people problems. There is romantic relationship but not like the many romance dramas, it's subtle and more like a "grown up" kind of relationship. I really enjoyed this drama.

Interesting but slow

I started watching this because of it's interesting premise. It's different from other c-dramas. It tells the story of a retirement home owner and the interesting characters of senior citizens (with their family problems) that live in the retirement home. It's an interesting look into what getting old looks like (for those who are lucky enough to reach retirement age). This is not a love story, although the ML and FL kinda got together, but it's never really been the focus. The acting of the casts are superb, both the young and older actors. I find that the drama is sort of cut into chunks and several episodes focus on one senior citizen's story and his/her family issues. This is where some episodes get really boring and I lost my attention on the story part of a character that i don't like. Overall, it's an interesting family drama.

What a Bore

OMG I don't even know where to begin with this review. It doesn't get better from the first season. I put in very little concentration while watching this drama. I'm not one who drop dramas when I start and Netflix has this as one continuous part, so I just kept watching this in the background. Some people however may enjoy watching this and if you are only looking for a drama where you don't have to put much effort and just watch casually looking for the romance part, you might enjoy this drama. Or if you are really a big fan or one or more of the casts. Other than that, I would not recommend this drama.

This is not the best historical drama that I have watched. Nothing beats Nirvana In Fire until now in terms of story, plot twists, acting and production. However, this has great entertainment value and I enjoyed it tremendously. Surprisingly, there is very little "boring" parts and I am glued to the screen the entire 40 episodes.

The best part of the drama is the chemistry between Zhao Lu Si and Yang Yang. They are like the perfect couple and I really like their interaction and they are very cute together. Yang Yang is indeed a very handsome and charming actor who can be overly cool but when he smiles, my heart just melts :)

The wuxia/fighting scenes are a lot more in the first half of the drama. The second half is mostly just political stuff, but not too heavy that you can still easily follow and understand the plot. That's why I only gave this drama a 9 because these political plots are too predictable and light for me. I think the strong part of this drama is the romance story between Yang Yang and Zhao Lu Si.

Another strong point is that there is quite a couple of strong female characters, Bai Feng Xi being one of them and Feng Qi Wu. Boy, I like how badass and loyal Feng Qi Wu is. She really is a great character. The other supporting characters are also good, particularly those by Hei Feng Xi's side like Chong LI and the General and his two sons. I enjoyed these supporting characters story a lot too.

Rewatch value is high for me. If I have time and couldn't find anything new that's worth to watch, this would be on the top of my rewatch list as it's entertaining and quite light for a costume drama. The OST is great! There are five songs that I put on my Apple Music playlist that I've been listening to over and over again, especially the two songs that are on the background of Bai-Hei Feng Xi's romantic interaction. I am still listening to these songs (and will still be listening to this song) even after I have finished watching the drama.

I am torn with my rating for this show. In one hand, I thought the story has a strong premise but yet I am also bothered by the disturbing scenes. I mean, I know from the start that this is a gay story, which is not my liking to begin with. Then, why do I watch this, you ask. Well, because of the rave reviews that I came across and short series, with less than 20 episodes. I do however like that this drama seems natural and shows real people daily life and struggle, like the father only has one or two pairs of underwear, and how he struggled for his family and the mother being a materialistic social climber just left her family for a better life for herself. And the acting is also really good and natural. No rewatch value for me, wouldn't put myself through those gay scenes for the second time. Kinda ruins Johnny Huang's image for me LoL

The drama started out really good. I have always liked Wallace Chung and Aaron Yan. However, it quickly got draggy and boring. I finished it but not with 100% concentration, which is what i normally do with dramas that I don’t really like. The uncle story is a sad one and would have made this drama have a higher rating had they package it differently. I like the sister character better than the female lead (oh gosh, i seriously do not like this drama that I forgot the names of the main character LoL). Anyway, this drama is just so-so for me. One that i will not rewatch and recommend.

This is just an okay drama for me. It has a good premise and i was excited at first because i like Li Yi Feng, but the drama gets draggy pretty quickly and the dubbing somehow made the acting looks fake in my opinion. They could have done better with less episode and dubbing. I like how the FL speaks English with her own accent. I’ve seen dramas where the ML and FL were dubbed with perfect English and that sounds super fake 😂 Overall, this is just okay but i wouldn’t recommend it if you’re not a fan of Li Yi Feng.

Back to 1989 has an interesting plot and storyline of the ML being transported back in time, trying to find out who his real father was because his mother would not reveal that to him. I thought this is interesting and has a "how I met your mother" kind-a storyline but with more drama instead of comedy.

However, I very very quickly loose interest during episode 2 or 3 (on Netflix). I thought the execution of this storyline is a bit messy and I am very annoyed by the FL's acting. She looks like a spoiled high school girl who is so naive with that whiny voice instead of a college graduate who just started her first job (which she did not do well too apparently). I am also not impressed with the ML's acting. I found him stiff and without expression. The bad thing about me is that I never not finish a drama, regardless of how bad it is. However, I don't watch these dramas seriously, so I put it on as background sound while i do errands here and there.

Enough ranting about this drama. Unless you're a fan of the actors and actresses, I would suggest you skip this drama.
