Great show!

Once in awhile there’s a show really captivates the audience. Last time I had this feeling I was watching nirvana in fire. Although different end goals both have great actors, production etc.
I really enjoyed this drama. Prob one of the few I didn’t feel the need to skip scenes and episodes. The story might move slower than most ppl want but it captivates the viewer with smart comedic scenes etc. The story is also complicated in order to fully explain and accomplish Ling buyi goals there needed to be that many arcs. Each puzzle piece slowly getting put together resulting in a beautiful masterpiece

What lol

I’m not even sure where to start… ok well here goes. It may contain spoilers so

(Also this should be renamed to no one works together everyone just sacrifices themselves for the greater good and no one learns from it)
Same issues as part 1 (why are there 2 parts…. ) I felt that the screen writer and director really didn’t communicate well on this. This show could have been great great actors, cgi etc. But instead it’s full of hypocrisy between the storyline and each characters lines and situations. I’m not even sure why they show them “dying “ and why there’s emotions since it seems like they all come back to life to their original self…. Then I’m kinda like well why not sacrifice yourself to save whatever when you know you’re gonna pop right back up.

There’s too many unnecessary side stories , characters and plots. The fox tribe is a waste and annoying. Not even sure why they’re just shown randomly and in so many episodes. Majority of the characters (except yun he )have bipolar since they become the opposite of what they were and trying to achieve in such a short time. Man mental illness is tough without proper medication. The show keeps jumping from one side story to another too. But because there’s so many it takes awhile to get back to one of the earlier side stories. I forgot who these characters were. For example. Zhu Ling lol I was like wait we are not done with him?? Uh still not done ??? Wtf still??? Didn’t he get his bones crushed and received an execution. And zi (I can’t remember but the cousin fox) feng again with the fox tribe. Wtf??! Stop just stop.

The two men says they wants YH to be free and wants to help her yet they just keep her locked up. Even after she “died” and transformed to the fox. LHQ is like alright I want to make sure this time she lives free so let me just put this barrier around her old place. They both seems to want control over her instead of actually giving her what she wants.

In conclusion this should have been Prologue(part 1 to explain all the backstories and flashbacks) then last part mixed with the first with 22 episodes. That’s all you needed.

I basically read the detailed recaps on soompi.com and skipped through a lot of the episodes. Really not necessary to watch it ALL

Don’t even get me started on the rushed no sense ending when they wasted so much time on useless characters

Wow.. where do I begin…

So I was looking for the original series and saw this on iQIYI thinking it was the original since the name and dates match and WOW was I wrong…

UH let’s see where do I begin

first of all… don’t watch it on there… whoever did those subtitles I don’t even know lol.
I speak fluent mandarin but like to have subs for reference (some of the ancient dramas have certain words that no one uses anymore)..

Now I’m pretty convinced it was a program or translate device that listened to the drama and translated it. Every word has different tones and each tone has a significant difference in what word they are… the subs on this just picked whatever was first when the program listened to the show. But it’s super random how it’s done.. some times it’s correct some times I don’t even know what they’re translating. One part was the main actress saying she’s not hua qian gu but the subtitles says but I’m flower and not flower (??)

Yeah… there are some actors that do return. SQM for one and shiyi. Then some random cameos (looks like cameos were filmed during the first season lol) but uh yeah.. hm save yourself the headache and don’t even. Or watch the first episode and last two lol.
The original is on YouTube tho.

Oh there’s also not really an ending. Just our two “reincarnated but not really” characters question themselves. And that’s a wrap lol. Good luck guys

High expectations but eh what happened

Okay so the director made some great dramas. I think he was trying to go that direction with this as well however I feel that the screen writer just wasn’t right. The idea was there along with amazing cgi and great actors etc. But the content didn’t really match.

I can see why others loved it but I sorta felt this was extremely slow and a bit repetitive. I feel that they could have done this entire series within the first half but there’s so many useless scenes and was just so slow. I took me awhile to finish this cause I just kept losing interest.

With ashes of love there were a lot of unnecessary episodes etc but it was written well and the side stories (most of them) and couples kept the drama going. This one well it just jumps around and then sorta tells one side then not really. Then there’s so much history going on between all the characters. I felt that they should of did a prologue instead of part 1 and 2 then finish it off with a combined part 2. This way it would have reduced the confusion with diff characters. The small flashbacks really didn’t help either.

The drama is a bit contradicting. I mean ML says all this stuff then does it the opposite. I don’t think the screen writer put enough thought into the process.

I don’t know if I recommend this but I feel like it would attract a younger audience not someone my age (mid to late 30s).

I did feel they did a good job with the jokes and puns. But you would need to know Chinese to get it.

… wtf???

I get this prob has high reviews due to the ML but come on…
He was super annoying in jt and somehow can produce endless tears. Every time he had to make a hard decision or do something he just cried and cried and cried.
I basically skipped and scanned through the episodes since most of the time it was slow mo wasting time crap. It was like watching one of those older preteen shows where friends get together and learn about teamwork. But they’re all 20-30 years old … right.
The plot was odd and confusing. I mean ML mom was a 100,000 year old plant that turned human? What????
The FL is supposed to be over 100k years old too and acts like a 5 year old… just what is going on…..
they basically skipped anything that could be interesting (supposed to be some big fight at the end w the dad and they showed one move and bam ok done )
There were some silly humor in it tho so it’s not. 1/10…
Skip it
Oh ALSO it’s a multi season show so these 40 episodes could have just been summed up into one short film.

Really took me by surprise.

In the first couple episodes I was kinda eh about this drama. It seemed to just be one of those easy going types with not too much going on. But wow this drama surprised me. It’s the first time I’ve seen the actress and she’s perfect for the role as well as her real voice. I really was not expecting myself to enjoy it as much as I did. Overall new dramas this year have been eh a bit of a disappointment to me. But this one def turned it around.

Excellent character dev as well. I remember Dylan Wang in miss the dragon. You can def see his growth in this and how well he is able to act. I think he got roasted pretty bad for miss the dragon too. Just great chemistry

Dubbed voice and WHAT???

I have a few issues with this series. First they dubbed chuan (zhaolusi ) voice. She already has a cute voice and then they made it sound like an annoying 6 year old ….
And then ok so this is what I don’t get and spoiler yeah sorta
So she’s using a vr to go into this other world where she basically is mortal. Now is she in an Internet cafe… I mean when she dies is there a janitor that comes and takes your body?? But tech her body is still in her world right. So… you got an Internet cafe where they hire people to clean up dead bodies … right..
The story line was confusing and weird. Way too many side characters added in and out. The names are way too similar too. A lot of times I had to read recaps to realize who was whom.
Way too many useless episodes
I def don’t recommend this

Beautiful and powerful show

Once in awhile there’s a show really captivates the audience. Last time I had this feeling I was watching nirvana in fire. Although different end goals both have great actors, production etc.
I really enjoyed this drama. Prob one of the few I didn’t feel the need to skip scenes and episodes.
The first arc is focused on the family structure and how it shapes our FL. Then second last focuses on how the FL affects the story and other characters in a wider scale( palace and more political arcs)

The story might move slower than most ppl want but it captivates the viewer with smart comedic scenes etc. The story is also complicated in order to fully explain and accomplish Ling buyi goals there needed to be that many arcs. What makes this stand out

Alright if you’ve watched any chinese (esp xianxia)or asian dramas it’s going to have its short falls. From plot holes to weird editing to confusion etc but rather nitpick at every single thing I decided to focus on what makes this drama stand out.

- CXX(Chen xing xu) (yes his real voice is that deep) really did a fantastic job. It’s crazy how he’s able to adapt from one role to the other with completely diff personality. I’m really impressed. At first I was like skeptical because he reminded me of Alan Yu w his emotionless face and calmness. However my mind was completely changed when he was able to completely change his tone and personality with just one look. (End of ep 4). I liked how they kept his Beijing accent for the soul shard of Mei then switched back to a more neutral one. It def shows a lot of talent. Dialects are a bit more complicated in chinese than comparing it to a New Yorker or southern accent in the US

- I also feel that with xianxia dramas there’s not a lot of subtle foreshadowing of what’s to come. This one in particular really seemed obvious who the end “villain”(using quotes because tech not really a villain) was.

- I’m actually surprised from this drama. It was more contemporary than most historical dramas. There was more affection and really focused on the female positivity aspect. I mean if you’ve seen other dramas there’s just frozen awkward kiss and affection only after marriage. They also kept an open opinion on anyone staying pure until they wed.

- The editor, producer, director etc always does a fantastic job with adding the music to each scene even if it’s small.

- Did not drag on the annoying roles such as a jealous female and take up the entire drama. (Cough immortal samsara).
No one’s a complete moron either

- A few things that did stand out.
- Hai chao is such a great character and the perfect actor played him
- On the opposite end, actor that played well Qing heng is just.. I guess irritating. I saw him in another historical drama and how he comes off in them is off putting. I’m not sure if it’s intentional or it’s the actor. It almost seems as if he has this almost fake look of positivity, always doing the right thing type but his hearts not really into it. Simply put it he’s trying way too hard to be that “good” character. It just really irks me for some reason.

I’m sure there’s more but this is what made this drama diff than most. I would def give it a chance a fun casual show before til the end if the world came out.

Great start but eh…

It took me a few tries to really get into this since it didn’t seem to be anything new.. the beginning was weird.. it went really fast but slow. It surprisingly was pretty good the first half. Some of xu Kai’s earlier work obviously can’t compare to recent ones.

The plot felt familiar but was diff at the same time if that makes sense. I finished the first half fairly quick but the second part seemed so slow. The strong character that was shown in the beginning somehow did a good 180.. it was also during the time where she realized she was in love. I dunno that bothered me a lot cause due to love she became subdued?? Eventually towards the very end she did manage to get back her spark.

There were also a lot of plot holes and inconsistency in both main and side plots.
What made it even more confusing are the three diff versions… one showed all scenes, one cut out a lot then other I just have no clue…

But yeah if you have some extra time I would least watch first half then read recaps on second. Although the recaps might be confusing due to the three diff edits.

Beautiful drama in terms of setting etc

Pls don’t be offended as I’m just being completely honest.

The location for this is def beautiful. It seems to be an open location shoot rather than in a warehouse with green screens.
The actors are excellent as well. Great chemistry, personalities etc.
OST is great as well. Kinda what you would expect from this type of drama but in a good way.

The storyline itself is where I eh have a bit of an issue with. I felt like there’s some things that really weren’t fully explained to the viewers. It’s as if a scene was cut out. Although it was overall put together good just little things that happens and then not explained.

I do like the fact there’s no usual misunderstanding between the main couple. If there was it was easily resolved with communicate. That’s a bit rare to find in ancient china dramas. Therefore there was no need to add endless fillers avoiding the issues.

I liked how they showed females working together and stepping out of the homemaker role.. However I felt that realistically, some things wouldn’t have gone that well. Obviously with other dramas a lot of situations and characters wouldn’t have been sooo exaggerated. However they did it a bit too much and almost over the top. There was always a side story that they twisted where it showed diff male characters as being sleazy, causing issues, blaming females(for their own mishaps) etc. Then how the female leads would be able to quickly overcome it and be stronger after . It almost seemed that they literally could resolve world hunger with just a few smart moves.

I know they def wanted to empower female.

This has nothing to do with my own personal feelings or having issues against anyone. I just felt it was one after another non stop. The finale also felt rushed…

Other than that it def was a very good drama that didn’t cause a lot of the frustrating and stress others would.

Refreshing to watch between long dramas

After watching some ridiculously long and redundant dramas this was very refreshing.
It’s 24 episodes and it didn’t feel like it dragged. I mean don’t expect CGI and amazing fighting skills. It mainly focuses on the actors skills and story. It was def very funny and silly. Almost stupid funny but in a good way. The male lead I didn’t like at first but he warmed up to me. The female lead zhaolusi is great at the role. But I think this type of role really fits her cute personality.
I recommend watching this not only because it’s good but it’s different. After watching 50-70
Episodes of a drama you need a refresher.
What I liked the most is that there’s no misunderstandings the last forever because everyone is an idiot.. most things get resolved within the episode. Highly recommend

Watch comedic value not for typical drama plot

When I first started this I thought it was super funny and silly. But as it went on I felt like it began to drag. Same type of humor over and over again. I even forgot what the plot was. I think they wanted to do too much but then it blew up in their face. Characters added then forgotten about and plot holes.
But with this I feel like you’re not watching it for the plot really. It’s for the comedic value like a sitcom or something. Also everyone had two outfits the entire time maybe one and a shawl
The OST is very cute and majority of the main actors sing in it. Thumbs up for when the actors sing the songs that play during their scenes.
But I do recommend it I mean don’t expect this to be like the kdrama goblin. It’s more like romance of tiger and rose

However I was really annoyed at how the episodes were total of 20 something mins long but had like 6 mins of intro and credits then like 45 seconds of the last scene from the previous episode. I wish they would have just combined two episodes together

One all should watch

Before I begin i’ll part a spoiler warning where i’ll be mentioning them in regards to my review.

This series is definitely up there in the ranks for me. It’s not just the storyline itself. I felt actors chosen for the particular roles fit really well. Along with a remarkable ost.

The ost itself matched perfectly in the scenes. It wasn’t the lyrics themselves but the melody. Each of the instrumental pieces fit as perfect as a puzzle. It was definitely very satisfying to watch.

Although there’s a lot of characters but that’s typical of all Chinese dramas. I did catch up pretty fast on who is whom etc.

It really takes a lot for me to not get distracted. Although pacing for some might have been slower. I felt that everything happening really captured my attention. The episodes went by super fast. I didn’t even realize how fast I was going through.

I did also enjoy the fighting in this. It didn’t feel like they used a lot of stunt doubles and cgi etc. It was actual fighting instead of showing the actors face then have all scenes with a double.

Specific character spoilers ahead
I really didn’t like Long Qing. Granted I guess the actor did a good job. In the beginning eh he was just there. But he really wasn’t a humble character let’s just say. He just keeps thinking he can do anything without effort because he’s the child of light. Every time he failed it got worse.
After super failing. He became this annoying pitiful character. It’s as if he didn’t even try when in turn he could have succeeded with some effort. He had a lot of opportunities to help himself. The only thing that turned him around was him thinking a miracle would happen. Just his whining gave me his headache. Then after turning into the complete opposite of who he was. I felt like the director purposely had him walk around shirtless like Tarzan. The episodes he was in towards the last arc were all him flaunting his body. It was really weird. It’s nice to look at someone with a nice body but it become awkward. Ugh.

Anyways I know season 2 has a diff ML and then random characters are diff. I dunno how I feel about it and almost don’t want to watch. But i’ll give it a go.

It should have been literally a ten episode show

My rating has nothing to do with the older type cgi but rather the editing and the show content itself.
If we subtract all the time wasted showing THE SAME slow mo flashbacks and all the pointless episodes where there’s no advancement in the story this would be 20 episodes or less. At first the flashbacks are cute. Then ten episodes in and you’ve seen the same ones 30 times it gets a bit old. Then more episodes in and you just literally see the same one over and over again…
Then there’s the episodes where they’re puzzled at why *a very obvious reason* this and that. Then spend another ten episodes still figuring it out the same obvious reason it gets a bit old.
The format reminds me of those old school power ranger shows or any one them… where there’s one issue after another leading to yet another side question that takes a dozen of episodes to complete. After a piece of the main plot moves one step toward Then oh no we are now missing this! Time to go team.

KA SUO is just a piece of work lol. Sry but just how.. I can’t even least in ice fantasy destiny he does something other than pout

Don’t get me wrong. I did like this drama but spent most of the time skipping scenes and just reading recaps. It does start out at a good pace then somewhere it just goes backwards almost.
