What a drag…

The premices looked good. Men and women getting to know each other and their true feelings. Hesitations, compassion, social pressure.
I really was looking forward to the journey for the male lead to eventually get the girl but even when it happened the show kept dragging on and on and on and I simply lost patience. The very slow pace of the show didn’t help either. I am not a big fan of these slow shows to start with.
And the. The characters are all cold fishes. Especially the two leads. They look good but my god they are not sexy to watch… they hesitate too much and definitely don’t listen to their heart. They rationalise love and it takes aaaaaaaaaaaages. I dropped it simply because I lost patience and therefore interest

why ???

I know that watching c drama requires patience as it’s a long haul. I still struggle with this one. why going all the way to Finland to din only Chinese people to interact with ? why is the FL so cringy? She’s a grown woman and yet shies away from any romantic interaction with her obviously smitten boyfriend who irrealistically bears it all with a smile. Hello Hidden Love! Same age and yet more realistic isn’t it ?
And then why so much food ? they spend their time in bars and restaurants eating food all the time. he’s supposed to be broke and yet feeds her endlessly … The FL is cute as a button but she’s too cringy for my taste.
Anyway, like a lot of you have replied it’s not for everyone ! It’s nice to see that we respect each other’s opinions here. Enjoy the show!

Boring

I started watching this drama because of the 2 leads. I loved Shin Se kyung in Rookie historian so I was happy to see her in a modern peace.
But the whole story was boring, the lead actors had no passion nor any chemistry whatsoever (despite both leads having really a nice potential for passion).
I felt nothing watching them grow. Yim Siwan is a cutie but his character didn’t strike a cord. His character is basically a teenager who’s completely lost and thankfully lands on Oh Mi Joo who’s going to mother him and help him grow...
the second leads were more interesting to me because, although they are bickering most of the time they looked alive.
This show terribly lacked of life and passion. It’s a pity for a show about life your life to the full dispute the many curve balls life can throw at you.

Enough with the dumb FL

30 episodes. It started well though. But I have gradually more and more problem on how they portray FL in Chinese dramas. It’s not a very nice way to show women.
They are all clueless, gullible and encouraging bullying. The only positive point is that this FL ha a bit more gumption than her counterparts. At least she holding her grounds, until she falls stupid for Mr. Gu and lose all common sense.
Mr. Gu’s character is no surprise. The typical overbearing boss who doesn’t seem to have any other purpose in life than work or torturing people around him. The actor is handsome but never smiles. Ok we get it he’s a cold one. But this is getting tiring.

I guess it's ok?

I've read other reviews for this drama which were a bit negative, a lot mentioning the height difference of the two leads. Poor Daddi Tang must have had a few back aches when kissing (very well) Fair Xing !
Overall I think this drama was quite enjoyable, maybe a bit too sweet and too predictable.
It's not the best nor the worst. Only average as it has all the ingredients for a nice cute drama.
I want to see more of Leon Li. For me he's the show stealer...I'll watch for future titles with him.

Perfection

I started watching because everybody was ranting about Park Bo Gum... At this time I was very new to the world of KDrama. Love in the Moonlight was my second! So I started watching and OH MY GOD!!
I've discovered the Joseon era! The costumes! The intrigue! the plots! And I finally understood why they call Park Bo Gum Korea's Prince Consort! He embodies royalty and I discovered a great actor (shame he's doing his military service and we won't be able to see him for a while).
After Moonlight I watched another of his title, Encounter with the Queen Song Hye Kyo and he nailed it again.
This actor is a national treasure and this drama is a must watch and rewatch!!

Not impressed

Like others I didn’t know it was a remake. I started watching it because of Ahn Hyo Seop and the fact that it was a time travel story.
I have very mixed feelings about this drama though.
On the plus side: good acting, good cinematography, nice ensemble, 12 episodes were more than enough. Thank god it wasn’t 16.
On the minus side: the plot is so complicated and twisted ! I thought it was a bit too much and the time travelling music drove me insane.
I still watched the 12 episodes trying to imagine how the two leads will eventually be reunited. I didn’t see the end coming as I thought Nam Si Hon would have used the Walkman to travel.
Still… it was a bit of a Meh! For me.

A long and painful one

So I knew that I was going to have to sustain 40 episodes. I knew it was going to be a marathon. But it was so disappointing. The story starts well with the FL falling (literally) for a handsome doctor. But then, when he passes away following a rescue mission Du Xiasu’s world falls apart. She gets acquainted with the Lei family as a consequence and Yiusheng in particular. The handsome brother. Now that can be a nice drama right? Wrong. The episodes are endless conjectures about the family business. Xiasu disappears from the whole story. The second and third leads are boring and when FINALLY at the 41st episode, the two leads are finally reconciling it’s lukewarm.
The acting from the leads is ok. Although I didn’t find any particular chemistry between them.
I was so disappointed …

squid games meet the hunger games

this short series is really a mix between Squid Games for the gaming stage and the cruel steps to reach the top. it also reminded me of the Hinger games as it is set into a distopian world where men are literally farmed following a pandemic that altered the way children are born.
the reality show set by the governement to mask underground activities were also a good plot point.
But the staging is far below the quality I expected. The actors are ok but not tremendous, to my point of view. I still watched the 6 episodes and liked the hopelfull end but would have expected a bit more depth especially with the second leads.

Ugh!

Ok, I have to admit I started to watch after reading some reviews and wanted to see for myself.
Fortunately there are only 10 episodes because it's really bad. The lead actress seems to love playing stupid and naive girls that have no idea about men and life in general. Twice already Fukuhara Haruka played the exact same role. What does she gets from it? I don't know. Plus, it's really not a good message for women in general and Japanese women in particular. The male lead has no other plan in life than playing with his female toy and "teach" her the ways to pleasure...
The story is non existant, the chemistry between the leads is so boring and really unbelievable. Thank you @sammi for this hilarious review as well as it summarises the whole thing.
Don't waste your time then with this drama. There are many more to explore and enjoy.

so Over the top but so good!

I have just rewatched this drama (probably the third time) and I still enjoy this despite all the tropes and numerous flaws of this drama. I mean it’s 14 years old already. since then all the actors have evolved but it’s a nice beginner drama to watch. everything is in there. the star crossed lovers caught in the everlasting social ladder, the “I give you money and you disappear”, the poor girl wearing very expensive brands, the continuity problems. I mean what a feast. I still can’t get over the cheesy soundtrack.
I don’t think you would do a drama this way nowadays but 10 years ago, totally. So to conclude an oldie but goodie. you just have to be in the right mood for it!

Finally watched it

I knew it was going to be good but having watched a lot of Joseon set dramas, I was a bit reluctant to watch yet one more. But Mr. Sunshine is one of a kind and that's what makes it powerful. We usually see period dramas with the same setting. The palace, the king, the court etc... we know the setting we know the costumes.
But this drama is set in at the end of the XIXth century beginning of the XXth and the mix of costumes, cultures and languages is a feast for the eye. The actors are mixing English, Korean and Japanese (and a bit of French too!) and I loved it. Seeing this page of Korean history was really interesting.
The actors are sensational. I discovered (finally) Kim Tae Ri when watching her new drama 25/21. I tend to like feisty actresses and she's one of them. She has soul, determination and is perfect in the role of this noblewoman who will do anything for Love and Country.
Lee Byung Hun is also a discovery (late as well) and I loved his way of playing this man in quest of his identity, vengeance and ultimately, love.
The impressive supportive cast was also a fantastic addition on this period piece about love, pride, loyalty and survival.
No wonder it was one of Netflix's top series before Squid Game arrived.

Another old drama which didn't age well

What a painful watch. I don't know if it was the fact that it was 10 years old, the bad acting, the set up. I mean everything was bad.
The chemistry between the two leads was as hot as ... well ice.
I was aching for this poor girl who had no shame of pursuing this cold guy who doesn't really give a crap about her. She's not really a good feminine role model. Kim Hyun Joong is playing the same role as in Boys over Flowers. He's got no emotions and no acting skills. I think he is now a happy singer so go for him. He's just a sweet face.
Jung So Min looks like a baby and it was probably one of her first gig. She looks stupid and awkward and it's deeply uncomfortable to see her lowering herself like that.
The mother was unbearable. She acted like a teenaged girl and was over meddling in a bad way in her son's every move.
This whole story is completely unreal and so badly played.
Sorry but that's a hard pass here...

Much better adaptation

I wanted to see if this adaptation was better than the Korean one I dropped a few months ago. And it is! The chemistry between the two leads are definitely better than in the Korean version and it makes such a difference. I second the other reviews by saying that Shin Ye’s acting has improved a lot. She’s much more mature but still has a sweet girly smile.
Jasper Liu is quite equal to himself. Always sexy and charming. It was funny to see him again in a more restrained drama (I’m referring to the previous “before we got married” who was quite torrid).
The second leads story was, on the other hand a bit boring. Maybe two many second couples? I don’t think that show needed 24 episodes but I still enjoyed the ride throughout.
It’s a drama with all the requisite ingredients: the chase, the “I’m moving in”, the dark past that’s going to threaten the lovers at one point, the second lead syndrome and the happy ending of course. Go for it.
And yes, he’s now my favourite Mr. Gu!

A different period piece

I started watching this drama as I wanted to try something different from all the other Joseon period pieces. I like them, don't get me wrong, but it's always more or less the same thing.
I was happy to watch this drama as I learnt a new part of Korean history. Plus the costumes are so much more interesting (in my opinion) than the ones from the Joseon era.
What I liked about this drama is that it was not too predictable (for the most part haha). I really liked the bromance between the two men and there is (almost!) no second lead syndrome which was nice to see.
What I did regret a little bit is to see this king so weak and so immature. I really hope that in the real story this king was a great one and that he really had a good friend and sidekick to guide him because, in the drama, he is really not off to a good start.
Some parts were funny thanks to Go Ah Ra, who I really fell in love with when previously watching her in Do do sol sol la la sol. I like these feisty actresses who have a face that express feeling. A lot of Korean actresses are very plain when it comes to expressing feelings. Go Ah Ra is fun, charming and represent a strong woman, which I liked.
Overall a very nice experience and I wouldn't have any problem rewatching this sometimes in the near future.
