Best xianxia drama in recent years

This drama has just proved that xianxia drama can be magical when it’s perfectly done.
Seeing all the efforts behind the scenes, they have put so much effort to do it right from production to visual effects to soundtracks to the script to the acting part, there is really no flaw to point out.

What I particularly love about this drama- the romance is well done although it’s cliche, and most importantly, the chemistry between the casts can also be felt both onscreen and offscreen. The logic and small details and clues in the script is also really well done. Yu Shuxin and Dylan Wang have superb chemistry even off screen and they are really shippable . Not to mention the stellar visual effects, especially with DFQC’s scenes really elevated this character’s almightiness as it should be.

There are a lot lot more good points about this drama and it’s highly recommended to watch!!

One of the Best Thai BL ever

In short, its one of the best Thai BL ever - no toxic relationship, no unnecessary dramas.

Just love the fact that the two leads have a very healthy relationship. They solve misunderstandings very quickly, there is no hide-and-seeks between them. There is no one who's constantly hurt and sad. Pat is also really boyfriend material who is really supportive and considerate.

The acting of the cast is also great. The chemistry between the two leads is so natural and comfortable to watch.

Not a bad drama like other reviews said!!

I gave it an 8. Honestly, maybe it doesn't deserve that high but I gave it because of Jipyeong and the theme.
In terms of character wise, single-handedly saved the drama. He is the male lead for me even though he didn't get the girl. His storyline was the most interesting and developed and his relationship with the grandma was heartwarming. I did love the Samsan tech group and their chemistry but not the main CP. The story actually didn't give Jipyeong a chance to pursue Dal Mi at all. Initially, he had to pretend so he kept the distance and not too long after his confession, the time jump happened, it seems like he still kept the distance.. they just didn't give him the chance to get close to her. Didn't like the fact that they tried to keep us guessing almost until the end.
Other than that romance part, I think it was still enjoyable. The theme about start-ups and incubators and investments were interesting. The friendship between the three guys was great!
I would suggest try watching a few episodes. If you like Jipyeong and don't mind shipping the wrong CP, you should be able to enjoy the drama!!

Watch for CP and romance!!

It’s a typical historical romance drama with court politics. In terms of the plot, there is nothing special. I think the later half dragged unnecessarily and especially the last 8 episodes were angsty and draggy at the same time. The ending is indeed confusing - they should have given us a more straightforward happy ending..
Characters:
I loved both male lead and female lead. They are both smart although there are moments where FL did stupid things that are so out of her character. Their CP worked really well.
At first, I had some prejudice against Ju Jingyi because the vibe she gives out and her voice are usually not my cup of tea. But, surprisingly it worked well for this character. Her acting is also good enough.
LFY really loves HYX and protected her since the beginning even when he knew she could be a spy. But, also too protective sometimes. I really want more of the CP working together against their enemies, instead of LFY hiding everything from HYX. Zhang Zhehan really has that domineering charisma as a general or a king.
Gu Qishao is a bit of a grey character. He did use her in the beginning to get the information although he never really hurt her. He redeemed himself in the later episodes when he got freedom to do what he wants to do.

It was generally an okay idol/youth wuxia drama.

Story:
The plot was a typical wuxia hero story - Luping and his journey to break the Spirit Lock, and friendship between the lead characters. The friendship between the two male leads as well as among Zhaifeng disciples was well done. There were also character development but there were inconsistencies as well. The pacing also had lots of problems.
The first 15 episodes were pretty good with a focus in younger generations, later the plot became a bit messy and boring with inconsistent pacing in the middle the last 4 episodes got better again.
As a wuxia fan, I also feel the fight scenes were a bit lacking; they didn't have that big impact and also not grand enough.

Acting/Cast:
Personally, I think CFY has improved a lot compared to his acting in EverNight. Chengxiao was a bit stiff but it didnt affect the story that much. The chemistry between the two was not that convincing but still okay for me.
Other casts also did a great job. I really like the two shifus from older generation as well.

Music:
Both the intro and outro songs are really nice. Especially, the intro song has that youthful feeling that really fits with this drama.

Rewatch value:
I probably won't rewatch it again since it doesn't really make me feel attached to the drama or the characters.

I didn't expect much when I started watching this drama. I just watched it because of Wang Yibo after watching him in The Untamed.
Story-wise, It is a very good gaming drama. It is quite detailed in the gaming aspect, in explaining strategies and commentaries. It also focuses on friendship and team spirit and these kinds of stuff. For romance, I feel like it is a bit lacking in terms of chemistry, although I love the idea that the two leads going through good and bad together and accompanying each other to the top of the world. And it was a bit too dramatised that the two leads had too many setbacks and 35 episodes is actually a bit too long, it could have been better with around 20+ episodes.
There are supporting characters and their stories like Yiyi and Yixuan, the two good friends of the leads. Their scenes give some humor to the plot. And Pei Xi's bromance/obsession with Ji Xiang Kone was quite funny and interesting as well. And how the five previous champions supported the new team was quite touching. Overall, I really liked the gaming aspect of the drama since it showed the friendship, team spirit and sports/national spirit.
The opening and ending songs quite matched the tone of the drama.
For the casts, nothing much to say. There is no one extraordinary and also no one who did really poorly, as to the extent that it would affect the story. Wang Yibo was quite natural as well. Especially after knowing his interest in motor racing and skateboarding, I think this character suits him quite well because it shows his competitive spirit.

This is definitely one of the best xianxia dramas out there.
Story-wise, I have to say it is quite unique in a way that JM could not love and did not know what love is due to Unfeeling Pill. This set the whole story different from others. The first part was really entertaining and funny and also created a base story for every angst and drama that happened later. Characters are really well-written - RY and XF's characters complement and contrast each other. JM's character development was also quite strong - from an naive innocent girl to a woman who would do everything for her love. I particularly like RY's character arc - how he became what he was - things that he did are not justifiable but understandable, I would say. I do think that the story took a bit too long in the first arc and also wasted a lot of time in the story of demon princess and MuCi.
Acting-wise, I liked all the three main leads. YZ is one of the actresses I look forward and she did a really great job portraying different emotions. She is such a versatile actress. JM's character would not have received so much love without YZ's acting skills. LYX also did a fabulous job in portraying such a complex character, RY, - from a quiet, gentle man to a man cold with hatred. I first noticed him in My Sunshine drama but didn't know he is that good. As for DL, I have never watched his dramas. He is also a good actor; his character was just outshined by YZ's and LYX's.
If you like xianxia genre, this is definitely the one to watch. Most would compare it with TMOPB; I don't want to because these two are two different dramas apart from the fact that they are in the same genre.

I didn't expect it could give me that much feels. This drama is not just a typical high school romance drama. Of course, it focuses on the relationships between the main leads but it's not all. It also touches upon various aspects of life - friendship, school life, teacher and student relationships, family and peer pressures, dreams and so on.

And what makes it really stood out is that the characters are so relatable. The characters in this drama are not one-dimensional; they are very realistic .

Yu Huai, in particular, is not a typical tsundere perfect male lead who is good at everything. He is smart but he focuses his studies only in Physics and neglects other subjects - so he is not top in the class. He is mischievous, playful and likes basketball. He is a caring and good friend towards his friends. His relationship with his mother may not be too good but he cares for his mother. He is not just a genius but someone who studies so hard to achieve his dream. He is not perfect and he is as vulnerable to distractions and setbacks as anyone else. Liu Hao Ran made this character very convincing and very real. I particularly fell in love with his performance in the last few episodes, I could feel his inner struggles and disappointments.

And Geng Geng is not a typical annoying naive girl. She may not be as intelligent as others, but she also has her strong suits and she also tries really hard. She is also strong and very understanding, I would say (not easily disappointed by small things). I loved that she was persistent and did not give up their love until the end.

These two leads compliments each other very well. Their relationship is based on friendship as desk buddies and so they know each other very well - strengths and weaknesses, good and bad. I think that's what makes their romance lovely.

It had so much potential to become phenomenal but the directing/editing team just wasted all the potential with dragging later episodes and disappointing ending. It became such a disappointment when you had so much expectations for the drama with such a great premise and great casts. Like everyone who watched would say, the drama deviates so much from the synopsis which would mislead the expectations. I had expected a more action-packed female heroine-themed drama based around the spy networks. But, the spies became only a small theme of the drama while it focused and dragged so much on one sub-plot which is the revenge of Yan Xun. And the ending!! It is very clear that they gave us an open ending to keep the potential for Season 2 but seriously, can't they just give closure to us? It's not like they have well-planned to give Season 2 with all the casts back.

Well ,enough with my rants. Despite the flaws and disappointments, I still gave a very high rating because of all the feels I experienced while watching. YWY alone saved the drama. I might be biased in saying this but regardless of how tired I got from watching it dragged and dragged, I still continued watching it because of YWY and XingYue couple. Last time, I watched TMOPB, I thought Ye Hua must be the most suffering hero in all C-drama, but YWY just took the title. His love was so selfless and understanding that he does not ask for her to stay but only wants her to live happily. And of course, LGX brought YWY to life. Chu Qiao was very appealing and satisfying to watch as a female heroine who rose from slave status to a famous general in the beginning; yet, it became a subdued character in later episodes when she kept staying besides Yan Xun despite all that he has done. And the romance felt real and the two had so much chemistry that even with all the separations, every scene they are together, so much emotions felt between them.

Acting-wise, all the casts did a very great job. No one was lacking in his/her role. LGX especially stood out for me because his portrayal of YWY was majestic. ZLY, of course, did justice to her character. I didn't mention much of YX character because I wasn't a big fan of his, yet, Shawn Dou also did a great job portraying his character change.

So, to conclude, regardless of all the flaws and negative points, it was one of the great dramas this year, evidenced by the ratings and online views. I would still recommend to watch it if you are a great fan of Chinese historical/wuxia dramas and if you are a fan of either of the main leads and of course, if you can stand their pace and editing style.

It is definitely one of the best among mystery/sci-fi genre in K-drama world. With the short length of the drama, the story was very tight and well-paced throughout the drama. Only the first episode was a bit confusing because it introduced the characters and set up the plot. The fact that it could manage to show and link the two parallel timelines in each episode, without exposing any major plot for the future, is very impressive, salute to the writer.

Story wise, it is definitely my cup of tea - bromance and sci-fi and thriller - kind of present and future linked together in a way. The bromance is real and epic and you can feel both brothers' emotions when they are fighting hard for the other. The twists and turns are quite unpredictable that makes you keep guessing. Romance-wise, I quite liked Woo-jin and Jung-yeon's chemistry. Although they had little chance to develop it further, their romance is quite fresh and innocent, amidst the mystery and dark happenings around them.

Acting-wise, everyone played their characters very well. Although I have never had much interest in Yeo Jin-goo in his earlier dramas, this character Woo-jin, kind of made it for me. He portrayed Woo-jin as a 20-something boy with a burden to carry but also with a boyish charm. And for Gong Seung yeon, it is my first drama watching her and I think she portrayed the three characters very well and I am looking forward to see her in next dramas. And lastly, Kim Kang-woo, as a more experienced actor than the other main leads, nailed his character perfectly. Although he seemed more mature and calm and calculative, compared to his younger counterpart which makes sense after all since so many years have passed, sometimes he was as wild and crazy as his younger self. As for the villains, I have nothing much to say. They served their roles throughout the story.

As it is a mystery genre that usually becomes a bit boring for a second watch, I don't think I will watch it anytime soon.

Honestly, this drama was a slight disappointment for me. My expectations were that it would only be a light-hearted, fun drama that focused on the development of friendship and the growth of Hwarang. But, the plot was poorly written. The story did not focus on Hwarang at all. But it was not solely a bad experience since it has some of its good moments.
I finished this drama til the end just because I was curious how the plot would turn out. I continued watching it because of Park Seo Joon and he was also the reason why I started watching it. Through the drama, the audience seemed to fall in love with Ji Dwi more than Sun Woo. But, it was not the case for me. I loved Sun Woo's character - a carefree, yet considerate, heroic character. Regardless of the plot or the character, Park Seo Joon did not disappoint me. Like most would agree, Park Hyung Sik also shined in this drama.
And I enjoyed some bromance between Ji Dwi and Sun Woo, Sun Woo and Han sung and among the six Hwarang. I wished it had more of that.
I hate to say this but this drama is only worth watching if you love either Park Seo Joon or Park Hyung Sik. Only then, you will be able to tolerate all the flaws and cliches in the drama.

I wanted to give it an 8 but the pace was a bit slow to keep me intrigued all time.
But, for the unpredictable plot twist and because of the amazing cast, it was a great movie. And Park Seo Joon performed very well in this movie. But I can't really say it is a good police.movie.

I was craving for a wuxia series when I started watching it. Maybe that's why I could tolerate a typical storyline and dragging pace of this series.
Nonetheless, it is one of the decent ones in recent wuxia/xianxia genre. It has good action/battle scenes. Even though it follows a typical wuxia storyline of a young naive boy becoming a hero, it is still enjoyable. The story is, however, quite dragging, sometimes it takes three or more episodes to go through a sub-plot.
As for acting wise, I am not that impressed with Li Yi Feng and most of the casts but I have always liked Zhao Li Ying since her older works.

Loved this movie! As an action movie, it has a great storyline, plot twists and great action scenes and also emotional scenes. I have always loved movies based in that era of espionage and conspiracy.
Acting wise, Jeon ji hyun was amazing as always. The story has her character in the limelight and she made her character shine. The cast was awesome with Lee Jung jae and Ha jung woo in the leading roles.

I started following this drama long before it was aired. Maybe because of all the expectations, I didn't feel it was worth the hype.
The story was great and unique, that's true. But, I felt like the romance between the two leads was underdeveloped somehow. They barely managed to spend time together, both busy with their own work. Incorporating and comparing the parallel lives of doctors and soldiers is great and ambitious, I have to say though and that was what made me watch it from the beginning.
I have no problem with the acting compartment. The two leads did their jobs. But, the second lead couple was the one who stole the scenes for me. They have even better chemistry than the main leads, no offense. Although their story was cliche, they did a great job in portraying kind of star-crossed lovers.
Music was great. I don't think I will rewatch it again because there is no scene that left a huge impression in me.
I know there are a lot of people in love with this drama. I did like the drama overall. It's just it doesn't seem to deserve the hype around it.
