they feel like old harlequin romance novels and unfortunately not the very good ones. deception to the max, plot all over the place. a bit cringe but you simply can't look away. there are so many wrong things with the main characters. just turn your brain off while watching.

both dramas about chinese culture. very interesting to learn about the perserverance of chinese culture

The FL's both get a second chance rebirth story to try and make different choices. They were both blinded by love and did bad things in pursuit of it in the first life. Scent of Time is more focused on the redemption of a villainess who accepted her bad behavior versus revenge.

Both sageuks have really good plots with the same writer. Both male and female lead are strong characters who have to overcome a lot. Both have good OSTs, Main difference is that there is less focus on romance on Rebel Thief than My Dearest and that the main couple in Rebel Thief are friends for long before becoming a couple. Rebel Thief also has a few fantastical elements not present in My Dearest.

Though both are two different genres…. The feels are the same with similar small town setting and psychological suspense. Hometown is a psychological thriller based on a cult involving mass brainwashing and killing while Monstrous is a horror suspense with an evil spirit that turns humans into monsters by affecting their minds…
