Don't Expect Too Much From This Cute Fantasy Romcom

Story
- Story is ok. It's cute, it's fluffy, it's lighthearted. It could have been a stronger story.
- The ending was a cop out

Acting
- Shen Yue hasn't really improved .. I thought she would have really good chemistry with Chen Zheyuan but the more I watch the more I feel like she doesn't know how to show nuances in emotions.
- Her chemistry with Chen Zheyuan feels like that of friends rather than lovers..
- Chen Zheyuan is good. He's a good actor. I have no doubt about his acting.
- Second leads have zero chemistry. They were not convincing at all.
- Dong Xuan the mom is good. Rest of the supporting cast is not convincing

Music
- Have nothing much to say about it. The themesong is cute but wouldn't play it over and over again.

Rewatch Value
- Not really gonna rewatch it

This review will be very subjective...
in short, I did not like it at all. Sure, it's realistic, but it's just not it.
I felt its useless and a waste of time. I did not like the plot, and I was anticipating much more than what I got... it definitely was not satisfying...
Could've been better... it had much more potential.. I wish the story was written differently.
now im writing more because it wont let me submit my review unless its 500 characters.
lol
I already wrote what I wanted to say...
And to the previous review that said its a waste of good actors, I 1000000000000% agree.

I have no clue how I am supposed to get over this !

I usually do not watch Chinese drama much. But after watching some clips here and there of the first 2 episodes, this drama had my attention. I was hooked from the very first episode of it.
It is different from any typical drama in my opinion. No toxic storyline, nothing over bearing - just a simple and wholesome story full of green flags. Every relation in the drama is so pure, understanding and refreshing.
The chemistry between the two leads is amazing and truly it made my heart beat faster every single time! Even the friends of both the leads are so supporting and caring towards each other, no jealousy, no competition, no negativity, nothing toxic.
I am in love with this drama, the plotline, the characters, the music - everything ! I have already started re-watching it from the start the very next day I finished it for the first time. Every time it feels like I am watching HIDDEN LOVE for the first time. Every second of the drama is worthy of appreciation. Every little detail is commendable.
Even after finishing it, I still have butterflies in my stomach and my heart feels full.
I have no clue how I am supposed to get over such an amazing, heartwarming, swoon worthy drama.

not bad but not that good

i loved the first season with whole my heart, but the second is just not for me.
the story is the same as usual in every ep, i know that was like it in the season one, but i think something is missing in this new, maybe because are two seasons and i was hoping for some new.
the acting are not that good at all, sometimes is a little embarrassing to watch for this why, but i won't saying that is bad, cause isn't.
watching this i tought i was wasting my time, i was entertained in some moments tho

Heartwrenching From The Start

I was quite interested in this drama initially because I saw that Park Eun Bin was starring in it and I have absolutely loved her acting in recent shows like Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

From the synopsis and previews, it seems like this drama will lean more on the light-hearted side but from the first episode I was surprised at how much of a more serious and dark tone that the show leaned into.

Will update review accordingly.

Here is my organized yet unorganized overview and first impressions of episode one that I wanted to do because it truly will set the stage for the rest of the series to come and it gives such a well-thought out backstory of the characters we will follow. I thought it was a very strong start to the series. Here we go...

We follow our main character Seo Mok-Ha, who is portrayed on the surface as a "brainless fangirl". She is such a huge fan of Yoon Ran Joo who is a very popular singer and is shown during that time period as having sold the most albums ever as a Korean female singer. Seo Mok-Ha also dreams of becoming a famous singer one day. She wants to enter a fan video contest submission for Yoon Ran Joo and she needs someone with a video camera to help her out, so she enlists the help of Jung Ki-Ho, who is portrayed on the surface as a "money-grubbing lunatic" to help her film and edit it. He is always looking for ways to make money with odd jobs and side hustles at the school. Things like trying to get paid just for letting people borrow his phone or ride his bike. The two students relationship is contentious at the beginning but the filming of the fan video is kind of the starting point that leads to a budding and deeper connection between the two high school students.

As we peel back the layers a little bit though, the audience comes to learn that both Seo Mok-Ha and Jung Ki-Ho are both victims of abuse at the hands of their single fathers. It is very triggering how diabolical the two fathers are and the scenes where abuse takes place are very hard to watch. It honestly makes me think about how many people in this world have to go through the same abuse that these characters have to go through day in and day out. It truly hurts my heart just thinking about it. That's a scarring pain that you carry with you throughout your life.

As we get near the end of the episode, we see that Jung Ki-Ho is trying to make sure that Seo Mok-Ha gets to Seoul to meet up with Yoon Ran Joo and Lee Seo Joon (who I am assuming is Ran Joo's manager and company owner?) since she won first place in the competition. To back track a little, Seo Mok-Ha was discouraged to even submit her video after an incident where she called the police on her father after one of the many incidents where he beat her up so badly. And guess who the police officer ended up being? It was Jung Ki-Ho's father who abuses his son just the same. Jung Ki-Ho picks up on the fact that Seo Mok-Ha is being abused by seeing the bruises on her arm when she's talking to the police (Seo Mok-Ha doesn't realize that Jung Ki-Ho is being abused as well until towards the end of the episode where she sees photos he took of his bruises in his notebook).  Jung Ki-Ho ends up submitting the video without her knowing. After Seo Mok-Ha has a breakdown at school, Jung Ki-Ho lets Seo Mok-Ha know that basically if her father gets violent again that she should come immediately to his house and he will help her and she does just that.

They end up on the boat waiting for it to set sail to Seoul but Seo Mok-Ha's father ruins the plans by showing up on the dock looking for her and Jung Ki-Ho gets off after letting Seo Mok-Ha know that now it's up to her to brave this journey alone and tries to stop the father as best as he can but he gets beaten up BADLY (WHY WERE PEOPLE JUST STANDING THERE WATCHING THIS KID BASICALLY ALMOST DIE?!?!?!?!?!?) and the father jumps on the boat viciously looking for his daughter and she's running away from him and she ends up jumping off of the boat and the father does too and from there is where the known synopsis of her being a castaway on the island for 15 years starts. I also want to point out that right when she first gets to the island, we see that her father has been washed upon the shore and is dead. The story moves on and we briefly see her life and how she lives on the island in the present day, but quickly a drone spots her and that's basically the point where she's rescued.

So, now we move into her adjusting to her newfound life 15 years later after being rescued from the island and see all that ensues.

I am genuinely curious about how they will proceed with the characters and their stories as the show moves forward. I want to see who and how Jung Ki-Ho is in the present day. I want to see what this second male lead is all about. I want to see what's the deal between the singer and the manager/company owner. I want to see what happened to Seo Mok-Ha's father after all of these years (I honestly hope he rots). I want to see how they will play out this whole singing aspiration of Seo Mok-Ha as well. I have so many questions!!!--- I hope the show leans more into the human condition and being more on the emotionally gripping side with a dose of comedy but we will see.

Side note: I am already loving the cinematography and editing choices! And the acting is wonderful!

This show has shot up to the top of my list for shows I am most looking forward to watching week by week!

Truly Masterpiece!

"I Told Sunset About You" is a masterpiece. It's just too beautifully heart-wrenching, yet the most realistic approach to the LGBTQ+ issues we have in society. The thought of the heteronormative standard is the 'normal' standard of society. The idea of "It would be easier if I were straight." The constant pressure and need to prove our worth in exchange for acceptance and validation was executed way too beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

The cast, the script, the production, and the director behind this beautifully made series deserve an award. The message that it brings to the people around us and us who are part of the community is so powerful that it can change lives and perspectives. Indeed it is an eye-opener.

The last episode would be next week, and we hope Nadao Bangkok can give us a happy ending. Just hoping ?

A must watch coming of age drama "Masterpiece "

It's not a drama it's a real life story with real emotions, confusion and love. The series is soo realistic and soo good. It's soo different than the drama that we usually see. It's beautiful. The acting of the main leads is top notch like who will not love them. They are soo real. The spark between them is soo breath taking. The scenes where Teh smells the coconut is soo good like it bring out each and every emotion. Everybody could relate to one time or the other to the story like when Teh wants to message him but don't. The feelings of Teh are totally understandable. Special credit to the music it beautifuly blends with the scenes. I don't understand the lyrics but the music is so good I am thinking of making it my ringtone. I just made this account to give 10 rating to the series I hope these series gets as much popularity as it deserves. Beautiful story, awesome acting, beautiful cinematography . In all a masterpiece.

A Girl Crush

If you have ever heard the song, "Girl Crush," you know what I am referring to. Zhao Lu Si reminds us time and time again why she is a fave among directors and producers. She manages to make a viewer like myself, jealous of the love journey she’s experiencing. From her role as a young teen to college, every step is believable. She is the embodiment of young love in this drama.

Between ZLS and Chen Zhi Yuan, I don’t know who to love more in this heartfelt story. Their chemistry is unmatched and it’s the best I have seen in a long time.

Don’t pass this up. You will love everything from the sibling relationship, her awkward facial expressions at a young age to her love that never truly wavers.

This was referred to me by a friend here on Drama List. I can wholeheartedly say this has been the best, involving a romance, in a long time.

Happy Viewing!

wish they had modified the plot/protagonist slightly

Overall: Fumiya is one of my least favorite protagonists ever which is unfortunate because the other parts of this series were well done. 6 episodes about 25 minutes each. Aired on GagaOOLala and Viki.

Content Warnings: manipulation, gaslighting

What I Liked
- cute moments
- acting
- production value

Room For Improvement
- Fumiya, I disliked him right away because breaking up with someone on their birthday is an a**hole move. The flashback in episode 5 didn't redeem Fumiya. Because we haven't seen Ritsu forgetting a whole bunch of events and Fumiya never communicates, Fumiya is an unsympathetic character. Then instead of character growth he continues with terrible communication skills by lying and gaslighting Ritsu over a long period of time. In episode 5, Fumiya snoops and then eavesdrops on Ritsu's conversation with his friend, again no character growth.
- what a terrible brother for going along with that and then a terrible friend for telling Ritsu he should hear Fumiya out. Ritsu had every right to be angry and sit with his feelings for awhile. Fumiya should have texted an apology/explanation and then left Ritsu alone.
- plot holes/unrealistic things such as would a hospital really discharge a patient with a head injury that quickly? It seemed less than 12 hours, wouldn't Ritsu look back at his old photos/texts, talk to his friends/family, he just accepts that odd living situation???
- the subpar kissing for two grown men who are in an established relationship
- cliche 'they met when they were younger'

I hate this drama. There's barely anything worth watching about this mess. Don't watch it.

There's barely any point to this whole series. The premise started off kinda interesting, but it grated on your nerves soon after because of how roundabout and pointless it is. The reason I watch dramas is to feel good, but so many things about this drama's plot pissed me off. The first two episodes were meh, the middle part was wholly forgettable (it was mediocre), and the season finale was a complete shitshow. I have no words to describe how HORRIBLE the last episode was. It's as if every single character development flew off the window and the writers just threw in every possible shock value to the last 30 minutes of the series. Totally didn't make any sense at all. I ended this drama feeling like I've been robbed of the 10 some hours I spent watching this series.

There is zero character development, absolutely ZERO. I ended this drama hating everything and everyone, ESPECIALLY Oh Jisoo. He's totally useless, totally uncool, the absolute lamest main character I've ever seen in a K-Drama in my entire life. Bae Gyuri was a b#tch but at least she's got stronger personality (I still hate her too, though). Seo Minhee didn't even have a character, she's just... there. Kwak Gitae is a classic piece of sh#t bully that somehow made it to the main role...? Sure didn't feel like it because of how little role he played. The actors and actresses did a great job in acting but they're playing for such poorly written characters I didn't get any enjoyment from watching.

Music? What music? I didn't remember anything remotely interesting about the music aspect of this drama.

Rewatch value is big fat zero because you'll have already seen how absolutely terrible this drama is. I won't touch it again with a 5 ft pole.

Overall... it's bad. Don't watch it. I'm not sure why so many people liked it, maybe their tastes are vastly different from mine, maybe I'm just too skeptical, but I hated watching this drama. I'm watching dramas to have fun, and this drama was NOT it.

I tried! I was so exited to find a highly rated drama. Finished watching hospital play list! And also had in mind Arsenal academy so was in the mood for a good follow up drama! Wow what a huge disappointment. I wanted to go slow initially to allow the story line to develop. I apologize but I finished in two hours.
What a annoying FL with so much makeup and over acting. She really worked hard to act like a new teenager with raging hormones.
Only points they get were few good kisses. I was super disappointed at the unprofessional attitude of the doctors including the ML. I could not like a single character.
Please watch at your own risk. I apologize if I forwarded it so much of there was a decent story line but I didn’t get any hint of it from the snippets.

Just want to air out my frustrations

(as the headline suggests this is subjective)

I initially liked the concepts of the show enough to overlook some problems with the execution but I can't pretend that I didn't feel a huge disconnect when it switched to the present in the last episode. The questionable aspects clouded my thoughts and took me out of the experience. Maybe I should've been more prepared for how much Eun-Gyeol's interference in the past would naturally affect the present, but I still feel like they could've done way better to make it less jarring and evidently divisive.

It's just so bizarre to think about how alone Eun-Gyeol is with his memories of what his whole life was like before he went back in time, and he's basically just now starting the life he's responsible for creating. Also the fact that everyone who knew him in 1995 has the worst memory ever and can't tell that he looks exactly like the guy they befriended and have pictures of and also has the same name. Idk I'm just disappointed and the emotional moments that really landed don't even feel like much anymore.

Eun-Yu as a character was very solid though I love her.

At first I was very excited about Descendants, but I just couldn't handle the cheeziness in the first episodes. My roommate is a huge fan of this drama so she convinced me to watch it together every week when it aired. If it wasn't for her I think I would have just dropped it. We both occasionally cringed at the overacting, cheeziness and awkward English. The drama just wasn't able to make me care about what was happening or who was going to hook up in the end.

In my opinion some of the reasons it was hugely popular was because, first of all, it was mostly viewed by middle aged women/ajumma (who often have some extra time on their hands) and girlfriends who have their boyfriend enlisted in the army (especially here in Korea). Secondly, because there are many hopeless romantics out there who all have fallen for the charismatic and ideal boyfriend Yoo Shi-Jin. ;) I wonder if a lot of straight men have watched this?! Convinced my bf to watch it with us, but he said the male leads stare too much straight into the camera which make it all too cheesy. He called quits after one episode... ;)

Pros: beautiful filming locations, handsome main leads, great OSTs

Cons: lack of interesting plot, Song Hyae-Kyo's unconvincing acting skills, awkward English, overacting, too much...really wayyyy too much product placements, too much advertisement after the drama... so sick of seeing the actors faces everywhere in the streets and on TV here!

An overall score of 6.5, for the effort and entertainment value. ;)
