The film begins in Hong Kong 1934, Courtesan Fleur (Anita Mui) enters into a relationship with a pharmacist Chen-pang (Leslie Cheung). Their love story turns into a tragedy when Chen-pang’s wealthy family refuses their relationship. Later on, In 1987 Fleur appears to an Hong Kong newspaper officer, searching for the lover that abandoned her in a suicide pact more than five decades ago.

Rouge is directed by Stanley Kwan, The story is very simple and yet so brilliant. No words can describe, the fact that both Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui are not alive today, it hurts so much. The shift of the movie from the past to present to the past to present is a masterpiece. Loved this movie.

The burden of loneliness

Some encounters via dating apps make us forget our loneliness for a while, if not find love. But what happens when the perception of such a meeting differs, even if we know the purpose?

Is the person who wants a bit of human warmth, a bit of conversation before an intimate relationship to break the ice a killjoy?
Is the person who doesn't care who the other person is an asshole or an excessive adept of hookup culture?

This film, in my opinion, beyond showing the progress of this night, speaks about what each person is ready to do or not to overcome loneliness.

"You know those days. The days when you don't want to be alone. The days when you want to be loved and stay with. On those days, where should I go? "Ye Eun.

Bravery, Chivalry, Sacrifice, Nobility, Love and Compassion. STOP HESITATING AND WATCH THIS

i watched it again tonight, it made me feel the same way i felt the first time i watched it.
An amazing movie about bravery, chivalry, sacrifice, nobility and heroism, will always remain one of my favorite war movies, it had super amazing CGI, great acting ,and fight scenes and tactics but it also had great character development and amazing relationship dynamic, it was beautiful despite the bittersweet scenes, what grabbed my attention the most was the heart of the people so resilient that it tugs at heart and the way it was filmed and acted, this was so empowering and inspirational and delivered much much more than i would have imagined, the emotions were so raw and the beauty of the messages it wanted to convey were immense, this movie deserves a round of applause and nothing less. IF YOU ARE HESTITATING WHETHER TO WATCH DUE TO THE BAD COMMENTS . it's honestly YOUR OPINION to decide, i love epic war and all, i was put of by the comments and when i went in to watch not knowing what to expect but man did it this movieee surpass all my expectations, YES some parts could've have been better but if you love a movie, you love it. and i absolutely, wholeheartedly loved it!
IN THE END IT'S JUST A MOVIE AND YOU SHOULD DECIDE WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT .

Now this is what I like to call, a remake done right

The original movie is iconic and forever engraved herein in the hearts of those who saw it. I recommend watching it for those you haven't yet. However, this remake certainly hits differently. It's a bit sadder, more poignant and yet it retains a certain beauty to it with the message it delivers. I think it's mostly because of Jing Hua's ability to portray emotions like he does in his roles, and in here is no different. Or the way they made this storyline become even more symbolic with every single detail.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the pace of how this remake was made.

The changes into the plot were nicely done, the most important details and essence of the original movie from 2010 was kept and replayed with the same lines and meaning and even improved in some ways in this version of 2023. They balanced out the comedy breaks with the blue vibes and sensible theme this story already has quite evenly. The flow of the whole composition as well as the connection between the two main characters made more sense in here. I even have to praise that the dynamics of the four ghosts felt more in unity too, oh and let's not forget that the new integrated elements, the changes of characters, their professions or life troubles, and overall moral messages turned all of this remake into a great symbolic masterpiece.

A word of advice I can give, is to try and read between the lines. Since, every sentence has a deep meaning.

Praise to whoever thought of using Tamagotchi toys in this remake. For example, in the original it uses Bopki also known as Dalgona candy which is no less iconic in providing some sweetness to such a bittersweet life. The value of both elements varies from Korea to Taiwan and the contribution to the plot. However, it's the sole part of raising the Tamagotchi pet, caring for it's basic needs, making all kind of efforts to prevent it from dying, or just the meaning of a new start that is beyond thoughtful. :')

Incredible how the noise they make can resemble heartbeats. :')

There are parts that will make you laugh and question when the sadness will start. Truth be told it hits more than once, but it's all worthy until the end. The cinematography is great and the effects are good enough too. This movie really makes you value the little things that we often take for granted and revaluate life and death priorities, or the importance of second chances in forgiveness and the will to try again. Although it deals with sensitive topics... the message it tries to convey is more of a beacon of hope to those of us who have been or are still lost for quite sometime now and on the brink of giving up... No one is truly born and living "alone" in this world, there is always a connection with anyone we meet in our lives, and that leaves a mark. A mark we chose to neglect or to remember, to cherish or to hate it, to embrace or to surrender. After all, amid all the laughter there can be some hidden pain, amid endless tears there can be a strong painful motive, amid any troublesome addiction there can be a guilty conscious, amid every heart aching loneliness there can be a strong desire of a loving bond or dream of a family.

For all that and more I actually recommend both movies. The original and this remake are worth watching.
Take your personal pick on which one you manage to like best. I liked the original, and yet loved the remake. ;)

Cheap Fast Food!

Detective Song Ci is loosely based on the first forensic entomologist and the author of Collected Cases of Injustice Rectified. I suspect reading his 1000 year-old forensic science book would be more entertaining than this short, cheap, confusing movie.

The story bounces around more than a ball at an octopus ping pong tournament. Detective Song is called in when a man is murdered at home. He solves the crime in seconds which freed up his schedule to deal with a mysterious mass murder of the Li family in the Tonggu County. Creepy straw men are hung where the people disappear, their bodies buried elsewhere. By his side is his trusty deputy Han dressed like a typical historical bodyguard. A young woman also drops in from a roof and joins him in the investigation. She has a jade pendant much like the Li family carries and she's looking for her parents. At the same time Grand Censor Ding, and Song's boss, has his hands full with the Emperor who wants to travel to Tonggu Co. to visit his old teacher who is ill. Ding forbids anyone to talk about the straw man murders under penalty of arrest, including Song. Even though not one constable had been aware of much less able to stop any of the murders of the prominent family they are quick as bunnies to arrest people whispering about the case. Song deduces that the killers are using blood thirsty insects to kill their victims. Before long he realizes events and people are not as they seem.

The movie is needlessly confusing at the beginning when much of the action is going back and forth without people being properly introduced. Eventually, names and titles are given to most of the characters which helps to sort the story out. At the end when the nefarious plot is revealed, a dying character has to use his last couple of hundred breaths to tell the convoluted tale. Some of the characters are still an enigma as the credits roll, there simply wasn't the time to develop them.

The production values were quite low. I did enjoy seeing old kung fu movie actor Norman Chu in his role. Norman's General Censor costume was much nicer than the clueless Emperor's. The fighting was of the most rudimentary style and they couldn't even get the buckets of spurting blood to look better than a 1970's kung fu flick. Norman must have felt right at home. Most of the acting was perfunctory with some of the worst dubbing I've ever heard. Along with the atrocious dubbing were the sound effects that were so amplified as to be literally laughable. When several women were walking on a dirt path further from the action, they sounded like a herd of horses walking by. Music overrode the dialogue at times. They couldn't even muster the money for a proper entourage and palanquin for the Emperor.

If you have an hour you need to kill and want to see a low budget movie with a big body count and a low rent Detective Dee or Sherlock Holmes, you might want to give this one a try. Otherwise, better to watch Detective Dee or even The Great Mouse Detective than this one. Song Ci deserved much better.

Toho goes all in with marketing this Mothra movie to a young audience. There’s a plethora of rainbows, glitter, fluffy animals, and silly humor.

The three main human characters who are grade school age find a Furby-like creature, Gorgo, who appears at the same time as a ferocious water Kaiju, Dagahra. The Elias are back, good fairies Moll and Lora, and their trouble making sister Belvera.

The first half of the movie dragged for me, as the fairies and children took center stage fighting to see who would take custody of the furry little critter. Eventually, it’s revealed that a long-lost advanced civilization, Nilai Kanai, had polluted the waters and created Dagahra to feed on the pollution. The unfortunate by product were destructive starfish called Barums who destroyed life in the ocean. Eventually Dagahra turned on his creators and destroyed the once great city, going dormant until the pollution in the ocean roused him once again.

Lora, Moll, and Gorgo guide the children to where the city used to be and with Gorgo’s powers they travel beneath the ocean into the pyramid structure as it once again rises above the ocean. On their tails are two bumbling crooks guided by Belvera. It turns into a race to find the treasure which can stop the Dagahra who has taken his battle to land as well where he properly obliterates buildings. Mothra shows up to do battle with the Dagahra and the adventure finally swings into full motion.

For a 1997 children’s movie the special effects are fine. There are lots of lightning bolts, monster fights, and glittering rainbows. The miniatures were well made and Dagahra makes a menacing enough foe for the beautiful Kaiju. Mothra is granted new powers as well. The film’s score is rousing when it needs to be.

Rebirth of Mothra II may not be something most adults would enjoy, it would help to have younger children watching with you or to let the child inside you respond to a simple adventure story of developing friendship and redemption. Though it's post 1990, I did give it a small ratings bump as it was aimed for children and I wasn't its targeted audience.

This is my first review. When I saw that not many users had seen/reviewed this movie, I had to write one.

There is so much compassion in this simple video. The message it presented to me was very important. I love animals, especially foxes. However, I would say that the lesson in this video can be applied to all living things. Giving living things a better life, no matter the struggle, is worth it. If you were struggling or confused, happiness would be your most important value. Imagine someone gives their all to help you not be so afraid, and keeps you feeling safe and happy to the best of their abilities. Things will go the way that they go on their own, but you can make the journey easier. You can make a difference, even in less extreme cases.

I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. In my opinion, it really brings out the things that we should value in life.

Sometime love ain't enough, and sometimes it is

Solace is a difficult movie to pigeonhole. While it is a romance, the leads spend large amounts of time apart. The pacing is slow like a slice of life and there are troubles enough for a melodrama. The leads involved occasionally find solace with each other, a gentle spot far removed from their daily grueling challenges.

Somehow Lee Hye Ran has inherited her deceased father’s massive debt. I don’t understand Korean law and how it ended up with her and not her mom. Be that as it may, Hye Ran is drowning in debt and hounded by her father’s creditors. She runs a clothing shop where she often sells counterfeit clothing. Her sister is pregnant and getting married, adding to her financial concerns. Meanwhile, In Ku is a pharmacist living with his mother and mentally impaired brother, In Seob. His marriage plans fell through when the bride’s family forbade them to marry because of the brother’s condition. Neither Hye Ran nor In Ku are looking for love but fate insisted on throwing them together on several occasions. The two find comfort in each other’s company and arms, but regardless of their feelings, Hye Ran’s debt doesn't disappear and In Seob’s needs don't lessen.

Solace was a realistic look at two people for whom life could be a difficult grind. Realistically, love didn’t conquer all and solve all their problems. The film wasn’t all dreary and pessimistic. Both people were reminded of what they were missing. It instilled in them a desire to find joy in their lives whether it was listening to a familiar song or taking a hike. Speaking of music, it was a blast from another past to see a Walkman and a car with a cassette player in it. Both Hye Ran and In Ku had responsibilities they could not be released from. Opening their hearts to each other, helped them to open them to others. Sometimes love can be expressed in a myriad of ways, Solace explored love in different relationships, the joy it can bring, and the loving sacrifices people make for each other. While not a traditional romance, it was a film that stayed true to itself.

Everybody has a history in their life, unless you know them from the baby & follow every thing that they do, never judge people from their past.

Just like AthenaTheStorierX wrote. This will be much more enjoyable if the story had more focus on the FL & her friend. Or if they just steer the plot better, with better ML whose even though know his wife past he still stand by her side not just judge her instead.

Really hate this kinda plot, where someone judge us by our past. Especially here they also talked how biased man & the worst kind of prejudice against woman can be. Men can be 'naughty' but want their woman remain pure, or in this case the 'pure' man get 'pure' woman. & to make it the story even worse the man keep listen to stupid advise his friend give him.

Just like Shiro, I also want to kick the man in the ball & give him just 1⭐But I also really like the FL & her friends. So yeah 5⭐ for all I guess...

More Artistic Than Emotional

Overall, I found this film to be more artistic than emotional. You can definitely see why the two main actors went on to become pretty well-known names, so I wouldn't say it was linked to performance. But rather the style.

The frequent switch between silence and noise kept jarring me out of immersion. I really wish they had stuck with one or the other, or used it more sparingly. We also get the ML's thoughts in the form of a black out screen with korean written across it. I feel like what was being thought was important, but the blackout screen didn't help me connect to the character. So perhaps an interlude scene of the ML signing his thoughts would have been more effective. Or even seeing him writing it down in a diary. It's just so important in a short film to keep us connected to the characters, and this film just didn't accomplish that in my opinion.

Visually, it was quite effective and striking though. We got a really comprehensive look at how our characters were feeling, both through their acting and through the way they were visually shot amongst other characters. Or even lighting (such as the green lighting that seemed to suggest our MC's jealousy). It was used with such efficiency to instantly tell us the story and the state of our characters.

I am not particularly qualified to speak to the accuracy of the deaf portrayal, so if what I say next is incorrect - please feel free to correct me. I would love to hear qualified thoughts on this and will gladly adjust my review accordingly.

Based on my interactions with deaf content creators on social media and with other deaf-themed and/or deaf-produced productions, something seemed off with how the MC's vocalizations were portrayed. They didn't seem to have the same sound aspects that I am familiar with. I also initially thought the presence of the sounds were supposed to be indicative of him being comfortable with his friend, as he tended to be quiet in crowds. But then we get a scene towards the end that shows that's not necessarily the case - so then it felt like this aspect was being used to make a story statement, rather than reflecting the character. So I don't know if I can say that the representation is well-done, nor could I find anything/anyone elsewhere speaking to it either.

A must-watch!

I didn’t know I needed this till I watched it. I hadn’t any expectations from it, and it was surprisingly beautiful. Really good story.

I think is one of the best BL’s I ever watched; probably it’s the most pretty, simple, and realistic. It was so unique and cute. I loved it.
The actors have great chemistry, it felt so real and natural watching the relationship of the characters.
I definitely recommend it, I watched this version because I saw that it was a little different and better than the episodes and I think it won’t be necessary watching them anymore, I’m well-satisfied. It was so wholesome! I even wanted to cry because of how sweet it was.

Short, sweet and feel-good movie you can watch anytime

I was amazed how they made the 10-minute short film worth it. There's nothing extraordinary and special about the story itself however it is simple, direct to the point and just sincere. That's the charm of this short film for me. This also made me an official shipper of YeoBin and YoungJae. They look amazing on-screen.

I definitely recommend that you watch this short film. It's so short that I might actually have spent more time writing this review than watching it. I swear your 10 minutes will be worth it.

The Weight of Her is a short film from nearly 20 years ago that I stumbled across. I truly hope that attitudes have changed about girls and women and their appearances since this was made.

The story follows a slightly overweight high school girl who is constantly judged for her weight not only by other students but by the teachers as well. Her friend who took diet pills and lost weight was praised. She, however, was constantly criticized and told she'd never find a job or a man because she weighs over 50 kg.

The girls are weighed in class as the male teacher makes derogatory comments about them. At one point when a very overweight male teacher derides the FL for weighing too much she calls him on it. He tells her it doesn't matter how men look, women are the ones with the problem.

Fat shaming, shaming for double-eyelids, all appearance related bombs lodged at young women, destroying their self-esteem and causing them to do unhealthy things to try and be ultra-slim. Instead of building them up, and training them to be competent and confident, they are told their self-worth is in how they look and how much they weigh. The focus was never on teaching them to be healthy in body and mind, and to develop their skills so that they would be able to find a good job because they were qualified, not because they were thin and pretty.

I found this very difficult to watch because defining women by their looks and size is destructive and the society loses out on creative, intelligent people in the work force simply because they aren't attractive enough for the men who hire them.

This is my first review on here so I apologize if it's bad. I hope it'll help people who might be interested in the story find out if they like it or are willing to give it a go.

First off; I decided to watch this mainly for Takuya Terida whom I found through Cross Gene and The Lover. His acting in this is wonderful (his talent in the field has progressed alot), the emotion he portrays from such a character with heavy shoulders is beautiful - yet sad - to watch. I thought the female lead was cute as ever, so adorable yet in regard to her portrayal as both characters it was really nice to see her act differently - very well done to her for being able to portray two VERY different characters so well.

Secondly; The story is nice and so good for those who like little things that melt the heart.

Third; The directing felt personal - which made me enjoy it even more due to it feeling as such.

Fourth; In regards to the soundtrack - it is so well done and really highlights a lot of the scenes that are happening, especially with either emotional or heart wrenching scenes.

All in all, I actually enjoyed it. Well done to all involved!

I'm not saying it's a film for everyone, just expressing my opinion on the film shortly after watching it.
